Juan is seeded and will play the winner of Kendrick/Vemic.

Juan is scheuduled to play today at 5:30pm:

Juan Monaco vs Dusan Vemic

Mariano (Zabaleta) is waiting for Juan in the next round.

The doubles draw is nowhere to find but Juan teams up with "Gato" Hartfield and had a good win:
Monaco/Hartfield def. Gimelstob/Fisher 6-3,7-6

reiko

Vemic d. Juan 36 76 76

Then, Mariano (Zabaleta) beat Vemic and plays Tursunov in SF.

According to the official site (http://www.riveroaksinternational.com/match_schedule.htm), Juan/Hartfield plays doubles on Saturday.

Goldstein/Thomas
vs
Hartfield/Monaco

I might be wrong but this seems to be the double final.
I wouldn't mind winning doubles here.

Vamos Juan/Diego! :)

reiko

Hartfield/Monaco def. Goldstein/Thomas 7-6(5),2-6,7-6(8)

This is an exhibition tournament and as far as I could find they won only two matches - BUT they won against good doubles teams and are the WINNER!

He must have played well but it's such a shame he couldn't win. Pico even won more points than Blake.

What's his next tournament?

That freaking James Blake :fiery:

Juan is playing Barcelona next and will have this week too rest (I would assume) I am expecting great things from Juan this clay court season as he continues to push his ranking to the highest of his career. :)

Was I blind or why did I not see him in the Barcelona or Casblanca draws for next week? :help:

He was on the Barca entry list all the way up till yesterday as far as I know, he must have just pulled out before the draw was made.

I guess he will rest up for Estoril, where ther is a weaker field and he should be able too do some damage. :yeah:

And Thursday result:
[WC] Elias/Sousa d Horna/Monaco W/O - (Monaco - fever)

Just wish Juan is feeling OK and will be ready for the next tournament - guess Hamburg.

Also, according to Julio's ranking update (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=4596298&postcount=2), Juan is ranked 45th right now. He has a lot of points to defend at RG/Stuttgart, but hopefully will consolidate his place in top 50.

You're right about his ranking. Yesterday I read about Juan having fever in GM but now you confirm it. It seems there are a few players with fever or colds.
The good thing is that this year he's seems to have more confidence, more organization and regularity.
I hope Pico can get a good draw for RG.

Yes, the score is great for Juan :)

Next match will be very interesting, since Juan faces Roger Federer. I am very curious how Federer will play tomorrow, after his bad performance in Rome last week.

Good luck Juan, I am quite torn apart in this match, so may the better win :)

Damn, now that would have been a surprise

I only watched at 4-4 in the third set and it was not that good (anymore?) of what I saw. Easy mistakes gave Federer the break point and a sliced out backhand gave him the break. And after that Federer served out easily. And from the stats I saw that Federer made a big amount of unforced errors, but also had plenty of winners. Juan's stats were only the third, but in both categories I think.

Think I missed something very interesting in Hamburg....
Seems like they had a football match between South Americans and Europeans somewhere, sometime, in Hamburg.

Juan "Pico" Monaco def. Luis "Lucho the Peruvian King" Horna 6-4 6-4

very very great result to reach the final!
(the match itself was not of good quality, if you're asking me, but mainly Horna's lack of play today)

Monfils was strong the whole week, but Juan was also strong against Davydenko. Monfils will return many more balls than Horna today, so he has to play a good match to stand a chance to win the title IMO

VAMOS for the title!

He won 7-6 6-0!
In the second set Monfils wasn't really playing, he looked like a boy and I would have won more points, he won like 6 points.
Juan was almost crying when the match finished and during all the match you could see how mature he is now.
In the end, Juan and Monfils hugged and talked a bit so I believe they have a good friendship.

Too bad I could not see the 2nd set (yet) because they showed athletics

But I saw the first one and he played a good tiebreak and quickly was up 4-0. Don't know about the 2nd set, but I think Monfils was a sinking ship then already.

________

Monaco: „In a final, you never know what's going to happen. The first set was very difficult for me, it was important to win the tiebreak. It's my 2nd tournament win this year. I'm happy that I'm going to rise up in the rankings more and more. I feel well prepared for Paris now."

Monfils: "I was tired, I felt the after-effects of the last matches against Roddick and Hewitt. My legs hurted at the end of the first set and in the tiebreak, too. The seconds set then was quick and easy. Furthermore, the win was stronger today, that hindered me a bit as it was difficult to hit the ball well. I'm planning to come back to Pörtschach next year."

Anyway, great job!!!
