How is it that Bogomolov (#113) play in qualies with anyone else outside top-200???

I suppose Bogomolov didn`t originally put his name of the entry list. Having said that as an American player ranked 113 I`m sure he could have gotten a wild card if he`d wanted one. However as he has only won 2 matches since the Australian Open, I presume he has chosen to play the Qualies as a way to get a few matches in and regain his confidence by beating what he hopes will be easy opposition. It can be very beneficial coming through the qualifies as it means by the first round the player is match ready, familiar with the surface and confident. One sees higher ranked players do this quite often actually. Of course it can backfire if one of those easy opponents turns out not to be so easy

Bogie didn't decide to enter the tournament until about Tuesday I think. I guess that's why he had to go through qualies. No special exempts or wildcards available. He was going to play River Oaks with Tursunov, Kendrick and a number of the other players who will also play Houston the following week. Guess he decided points were a little more important than money.

Also, Graydon Oliver is there and planning to play doubles with Travis Parrott this week (ex-partner meet the current partner...) and I hope I can get up there to see them this week. And Zack too.

This is wierd... a seed AND qualifyer...

The reason Alex opted for this challenger: he needs the points this week to gain direct entry to RG.
He is 115th with 362 pts in tommorrow's ranking, and has 12 pts coming off next week. According to my calculation if he wins at Calabasas he will get 402 pts (that includes 2 pts for qualifying, which might be crucial...), which will lift him into the top-100. If he is runner-up he'll have 387 pts and may just make the cut....

Seeds #4 Goldstein, #5 Salzenstein and #6 Ried also can make the cut for RG if they win in Calabasas.
They have 360, 347 and 339 pts respectively, and in case they clinch the title, their tallies would be 398, 385 and 389 (Ried has no points to defend this week, therefor he can get more pts).
#2 seed Elseneer, who occupies #100 spot in tommorrow's ranking and should be safe in the DA list for RG, has 395 pts. Behind him in next week's ranking will be Vicente on 394, Corretja 386, Rusedski 382, Levy 378. They are all idle this week, so their ranking on the entry list for RG depends on results at Calabasas...

No. (LL)Emin Agaev took the spot that Gilles Elseneer would've played. Emin made good use of his (LL). Won in 3. Can't tell you much more about the match because I was trying to watch Ivo's match and listen to the score of a match behind me at the same time.

Good thing that i'm too tired or i would have a lot to say about these insults being thrown Alex's way   . Besides i plan on being in a good mood again when I see him.

Went to Calabasas today to see Graydon and Travis. Talked to Scott and Zack as well. K. introduced me to Bogie and he seems like a good kid. He keeps playing like he did today, he could win the whole thing (hope I don't jinx him). Would also love to see Oliver/Parrott in the finals, I would definitely drive all the way out there again for that.

Today was Alex's 8th match (3 quallies, 5 singles plus 2 doubles on what would've been days off. In other words, he never had a day off) so I find it a lot more impressive than Ivo win all his singles in straights but I guess it's all in how you see it.

You forgot that he played that Pro-Celeb exhibition on Thursday night as well. Alex played almost as well as he could today, but he was probably a bit pooped. He got a hideous call on a break point that would have won him the first set and I think he just couldn't settle down after that. And, Ivo was having one heck of a good day serving too. It was a pretty decent match to watch though.

And Graydon Oliver won the doubles title with Travis Parrott in his first tournament back after his completely bogus suspension (take that ATP!). That match was exciting to watch.

I didn't forget. Considering my taxi was 2 1/2 hours late that night and I wasn't happy about Alex being asked to play an exhibition the night before he was to play his QF, Thursday's a night I would rather forget :) .

He got a hideous call on a break point that would have won him the first set and I think he just couldn't settle down after that.

Don't even want to think about that point
