Look at that - Argentina and Chile #1 and #2.

Great to see that tennis is so popular in both countries. :yeah:

Interesting stats.

One explanation consistent with the pattern is that there are possibly few stars in other sports in the leading countries, Chile and Argentina. I know Argentina has had football superstars in the past, maybe fewer now.

In the U.S. I think Basketball, Ice Hockey and other sports have a lot of super stars. In Chile, I guess Gonzo and Massu are maybe the biggest sports stars they have.

surprised to see low turnout from France, Australia, Spain and a littble bit surprised about Germany not even being at 1%

That makes sense, especially in what regards to the US. Tennis is probably about the 10th sport in popularity, with Baseball and (American) Football being the first two.

However, Football (Soccer) is BY VERY VERY FAR the most popular sport in Argentina and Chile, and soccer stars are MUCH MUCH MORE popular than Tennis stars. But in Argentina Tennis is indeed one of the most popular sports after soccer, together with basketball.

I would imagine Switzerland would rank higher though. Isn't Roger the most popular sportman ever over there?

Soccer remains the most popular sport I think in Switzerland, despite Federer Hingis. But Federer is one of the most recognized sports stars in Switzerland. Part of why Switzerland is not rating high in atp visits is, I think, just due to sheer size of Switzerland which is much much smaller than Argentina and Chile. Less than 8 mill.

Tennis doesn't even make our top ten most popular sports in the US so it's no surprise that the US doesn't top the list. I'm impressed that we've even in the top three.

Funny how Switzerland doesn't rank at all on either ATP or MTF.

it has more to do with swiss counting their money than wasting time here
but on the other hand Roger says he can stroll in peace pretty much anywhere in his town since the people are rich and very private anyway so he doesn't stick out .

Chile is only a 15 million country, we sucks in all sports except tennis

football is more popular but... Chile football national team sucks.... in tennis since Rios' era tennis is almost popular than football here, especially since gonzo and nico won the gold medals at Athens

then why does Viña have low attendance figures?

does it have to do with organizational issues or location?

both of them

also, in Chile the people only want to see the chileans playing in the Viña tournmanent

when the tournament was played in Santiago in Rios' era was worse, even in Rios' matches we dont have a full house, only in the semis and finals

Edit--

It is possible that a bigger fraction of futbol related sites' visitors are Chilean, but you can't tell that from looking at the numbers here. Basically these numbers cant be used to figure out how one sport compares to another within a nation -- although with its being a US site and knowing something about tennis' popularity in the US, one can make a guess.

Football is more popular in Chile and I think that our CURRENT national team is really good .

Basket is very very popular in the south but Chile sucks in basket .

Finally I'd say that tennis is popular here, but it's not as played as football or basketball and the best chilean athlete is Mat14as :worship: , a footballer

MAT14S!!!!!! :worship: :worship: i hope that our current football national team can do something good in the Copa America and in WC qualifying...

they are showing the % of ATPtennis.com visitors, that come from each country.

It is possible that a bigger percent of Chile's population goes to a football related forum/website. The only comparison you can do here is across countries, not across sports within a country.

I thought it meant the % of visitorst to this forum . It hardly makes sense that 10% of population of any country comes here or to any website

Wow very interesting statistics! U guys are sooo lucky to have so many people interested in tennis frm ur country. With 70 million inhabitans in this huge city, we dont even make it on the list :S Football is our language here but were not that great. Its not like spain or argenting or france where theyre almost equall dominant. Barely any promising players here and its a shame coz they all stop playing at like 16. Parents are also an issue, not open minded enough to send their kids to an academy or leave school...
