Horna should have retired before even entering the court. What's the point in playing 2 games and quitting?

 Why not? JCF's first win of the year was also by retirement and he went on to reach a final. ;)

bravo gatoooooooo, the losing streak is over :music:

seriously... poor lucho  :retard: he will lose tons of points, he will be out of top 70 next monday

Well, technically yes, the losing streak is over, but 1-1 in the first set and retirement is not a "win" mentally. The match practically didn't start.
Mentally, and knowing him is probable, for Gaudio this could be even worst: "I only can win if the other gets injured"... So this could mean a 0-6; 0-6 in the next match. This match can't mean a boost in confidence for him from what I said.
Hope I'm wrong. But at least Gaudio is in 2nd round after months

Poor Lucho he was having great results lately. Hope he'll be fine soon.
Anyone knows what happened to him, exactly?

Get well soon Lucho.

You sorta hope that something happened early in the match that made it impossible to continue, and that Lucho didn't come out feeling shit and threw in the towel after 2 games. If he did that was dumb and unfair - denying a LL the chance of a free passage into R2.

It could have been worse: 0-2 Ret. At least he wasn't behind in the score.

Exactly, there was a long pause in the 1st game for some reason

I think he was already injuried before it has started  I didn't see the first two points of the match (he called the trainer on 30-0, right leg injury), but the commentator was saying something about his warm-up and that the possible LL should be :fiery: :p.

What happened was the following. 15-0 Horna, Gaudio makes a dropshot and Horna slides, makes a dropshot winner. That run and slide injured him. He came back to serve limping and tried to serve. He couldn't serve decently, called for the trainer, but he was clearly going to retire. He threw the racket in disappointment and his facial expression was clear that he couldn't play anymore.

ah  so why was Oncins talking about the LL? :smash:

He was talking out of his ass... :p The main expression that showed that Horna got an unexpected injury was that he freaked out when he felt it. If he were already injured, he'd take it much better.

 I so hope Luis injury isn't serious. He's been doing so well, it would be so awful if this took him out for while.

I'm happy Gaston advances but not like this. He needed to play and earn a win for his confidence.

Gaston finally sees 2nd round action this year, but the way it happened was typical for so many reasons.

02-28-2007, 03:37 AM
Hope the injury isn't too serious, no point going on if it's going to be worse. This is the first event he ever won, so it wouldn't have been easy for him to take this decision.
