Did that - it's great in a way but it seems like you have to wait until the end of the year to get it and it only covers ATP players.

The Bagel Report seems to be an ongoing thing so let's see how it develops over time.

So, how come you missed Andy Murray? Dealt Martin 2 in the Australian open, and Pless 1 in San Jose, total 3?

I would have thought there would be other ATP ones as well but admit I can't remember 'em! As you can see from my signature Murray's are apt to stick in my mind.

Edit - ah, I see, you are just listing the leader in each group. :ignore:Apologies.

On the CoreTennis website you'll find that Andy is #11 on the list. He comes just after other guys who also managed to deal 3 bagels this year, but without playing as many matches as he did.

oh man , you need to have these only in atp matches, not challengers or other events where bagels are common . I mean I never heard of these people, no offense but no one cares nor finds it interesting

Unfortunately your point of view is probably shared by most "tennis fans".

This has been encouraged and exploited through the "Star System" which is the very heart of ATP and WTA tennis today : the fans are really concerned by the players that they think they know well, because if you know the player, you can get emotionally involved in the match, but if you don't know the players, it's less interesting, so forget it . . . .

I personally believe that no matter what the player is ranked, to win a tough match against a player that is just as good (or bad) has as much value to both of the players as a tough match between 2 players in the Top 10 ATP (or WTA). Don't under estimate the quality of play in the Challengers, Futures and Juniors, I have seen some incredibly exciting games where the players are prepared to lay their guts on the court to try to win the match, but that is another form of emotions . . . . :p

To me a bagel in a Challenger or a Futures is still an ATP result and although I agree with you that for the juniors' and younger players' "bagels" are much more frequent, the Bagel Report is on the lighter side of this wonderful sport and from time to time it's pleasant to see another way of putting some lesser known players in the "limelight", even if it's just for FUN.

So who is the biggest baker on the pro circuit?

This year it is David Ferrer :)

Ferrer Beats Federer by 4 Fries

David Ferrer took the Golden Bagel Award this year barely edging out Roger Federer by 4 fries. Ferrer and Federer both handed out 7 bagels (6-0 sets) to their opponents throughout the year. "We had to count fries (6-1 sets) to determine the winner this year," said award sponsor Tom Suhler. Ferrer administered 18 fries compared to Federer's 14. This year caps a great year for David Ferrer including his move from No. 20 in the world during June of 2006 to his current career high of No. 6.

"This year has been the most closely contested race since the awards inception," Suhler continued. "Novak Djokovic and Richard Gasquet both gave out 6 bagels while Rafael Nadal and Nikolay Davydenko each delivered 5." The complete rundown of the bagel count can be tracked throughout the year at www.goldenbagelaward.com (http://www.goldenbagelaward.com). The site now includes historical statistics on some former tennis greats including Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Stefan Edberg, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Pete Sampras and Mats Wilander. And who leads that group as the all-time bagelmister Jimmy Connors with 180 career bagels and 402 fries.

About Golden Bagel Award

To qualify for the Golden Bagel Award, a player must either be ranked in the Top 8 of ATP singles players or participate in the year-end Tennis Masters Cup. The winner is the pro who captures the most 6-0 sets between January 1 and the start of the Masters. Davis Cup matches and incomplete sets are not counted. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) website is used as the definitive data source. In the event of a tie, the number of "fries" (6-1 sets) will determine the winner.

Hi FedFan,

Then the Post from Eden with the Golden Bagel Award should make you happy, it's limited to the Top 8 ATP singles players or participate in the year-end Tennis Masters Cup, should correspond to what you are looking for.

For those who wish a more complete overview, the Bagel Report is once again up-dated today, Thursday Nov.15th.

We are well aware of your opinion and we will be considering the format of the Bagel Report for next year, we will see what we can do to make some improvements, your comments will be retained as a suggestion for a better formula than the one we use today. We will see, thanks for your comments.

You are probably right, if it had been dealt out on a clay court it would have been historic . . . :hatoff:

There are probably a few other memorable bagels amongst the Top players, how about a few suggestions,

is Nalby's Rapha bagel the best this year or not?

In fact he's quite active, take look at the tournaments where he played so far this year :

Feb 16 Chall. [Q] Belgrade Challenger, Belgrade
Feb 16 Chall. 1/8 Belgrade Challenger, Belgrade
Feb 02 Fut. Winner Israel F3 Futures, Eilat
Jan 26 Fut. Finals Israel F2 Futures, Eilat
Jan 12 Chall. 1/16 Salinas Challenger, Salinas
Jan 05 Chall. [Q] Sao Paulo Challenger, Sao Paulo
Jan 05 Chall. 1/8 Sao Paulo Challenger, Sao Paulo

and here is his Ranking Position Graph since the last 12 months :

http://www.coretennis.net/rgraph/p2388.png

He's already 30 years old, so dropping back a little each month is relatively understandable. But he's hanging in there, winning a future is not as easy as it would seem to be . . .
