I just hope Leo wins best actor.

Everyone seems to think Forest Whitaker will win, I have sneaking suspicion it might go to Leo though as he;s been nominated twice before & twice this year & going off other years they don't seem to like sending multiple nominees off empty handed - Hollywood heavyweights anyway.

Eddie Murphy lost because of his new movie "Norbitt" . Whaterver studio released that awful thing should have waited until after the Oscars. Just seeing the ads for it probably caused many voters to think twice about voting for him. Too bad too, since he showed he has acting chops after all.

I'm happy for Alan Arkin though-he was great in Little Miss Sunshine. His character was so profane and yet such a wonderful grandfather.

Ellen was terrible IMO, but here lame segments where short enough to bare, but the ceremony was dragged out way too much, they could of done it in 2:30 or just 2 hours... aside from ellen I actually liked the awards better like they did them yesterday where they give everyone a chance to talk and actually show more than just 10 of the awards...

to me, the fatal error : give the oscar to Happy Feet and not to Monster House (an incredible an very enjoyable animated movie, with a millions of references to the 80's > Gremlins, The Goonies, Ferris Bueller...)

It's more like the Academy didn't want to give 3 black people major awards so chose to give to Hudson and Whitaker and leave Murphy out.

Pathetic...

her crappy song didnt deserve to win, horrible song, but I think they wanted to get the "we are behind al gore to stop global warming warming" message so they menioned him 25 times, gave happy feet an oscar, and gave that horrible song an oscar and to top it off when gore won they say " Gore was scheduled to give a speech in new orleans the day katrina hit, bringig to life the real threat of global warming" when even scientist that back global warming came out and said hurricane have had their own periods irregarldess of global warming, and that global warming had nothing to do with them, but you cant expect those facts to deter and agenda!
aside from that and the 3+ hours I though they where the best oscars in the last years

 Could have been a factor although the academy as a whole seems to be snootty. As the musical number by Jack Black, Will Ferrel and John C. Rielly so hilariously pointed out, they don't hold comedians in high regard when to comes to giving out awards and I think they didnt' want the title "Academy Award Winner" to be associated with the star of "Norbit" . I would also dismiss the racist accuasations made. The academy is not a perfect body of voters but I dont' think race is an issue anymore. That barrier has not only been broken but obliterated these last 10 years.

Yes, that is why it won for "Adapted screenplay" not "original".....I did read it was a major rework though- quite different from the original.

Not sure why you think we Americans are so anti Chinese. I don't see that. There is certainly negative feelings for the communist governement, but not the people. Chinese movies have been recognized by the Acadamy -Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon comes to mind. (and please dont' turn this thread into another anti anything thread. Start a new one if you need to bash the US and leave the Oscars thread about the movies. :) )

China and Japan are nemesis of each other!

Nemesis, like England vs Germany, Argentina vs Brazil, Germany vs the Netherlands, Japan vs Korea, Malaysia vs Singapore, India vs Pakistan, Israel vs Palestine, and many more cases.

The third party says something definitely from Chinese are originated from Japanese = insulting Chinese

Call me ignorant or whatever you want. And ignorant I am since I have no idea what your are refering to when you talk about the "third party" You obviously have an axe to grind-just start another thread to do it.

A lot of people seem to forget it was a remake of a Japanese movie, but that's not the issue, as it was a very good movie.
Certainly not my favorite of 2006, that honor goes to Children of Men, but the Departed was up there.

As much as I am sick of Hudson she and Whitaker were so far ahead of their counterparts for their awards they had to win. Murphy was good but Arkin was the sentimental choice and was very strong in lil miss. Wasn't so much that Murphy was the best by far and got slighted, to me it was 1, and 1a and they went 1a.

It's a Taiwanese Movie because the investors are from Taiwan. Just like Hollywood filming a movie in China, it's still a Hollywood movie.

i disagree - i think the Norbit factor was what did him in. it reminded everyone of what his acting is typically like and it made his performance in Dreamgirls look like a fluke. which it probably was . Norbit is much more typical of the kind of base movies he puts out.

Ok, this is a late post re the Oscars but I just had to say that Leo should have been nominated for The Departed. I think he was better in that movie than in Blood Diamond, and should have a better shot at winning. Although, I'm saying this from a totally biased view bcoz I haven't seen Last King of Scotland yet, and friends say that Forest was really good there.

I only tuned in to see Abigail Breslin run all over the stage screaming ¨I won, I won, I won...........

Alas, the Academy voters have no sense of drama.

The Hollywood sheep will just keep nominating Eastwood over and over in the pathetic hope of getting invited to play golf with him at Carmel.
