Congrats on a great week and a stellar start to the year Misha!! :yeah: :bounce:

He is the best performer indoors so far this year...with Baghdatis a close second. Murray, Haas, Roddick and Ljubo close behind.

yeah live in dreams longer, if he will be out of Top20 he would get hard draws in every tournament and guys like Federer, Murray, Nadal, Baggy are more than capable of beating him. without high seeding he won't to much damage at UsOpen, maybe he will get some wins in indoor tournaments but if at indorr Masters whole top10 shows up he is out of Top10 for good

Exactly. Let's assume noone outside of Croatia ever heard him, which is actually nonsensical, but for the sake of argument...

Now according to Wikipedia, Croatia has about 4.5 million inhabitants. So if only 25% Croats heard of Ljubo (which is totally impossible given his DC win which was probably in all the newspapers around the country), it's already more than a million.

Look, don't try to be smart with me. You are only sounding more stupid with each post. Outside of your family and your highschool class, who knows that you even exist? This is not to say that I'm much different than that, but I don't go out and ridicule the popularity of people who are 10000 times more known than me, like you do. For one I agree with you, comparing Nadal to Ljubo is kinda silly. The boy already had 2 GS before he turned 20, Ljubo never came close to winning one.

But, on the other hand, as much as comparing Ljubo and Nadal is silly, what is REALLY silly is when a general noone like you ridicule Ljubo's achievements. Try to develop some modesty or at least some humour or a slight touch of self-irony. That's a friendly advice here.

Ivan wont defend the RG SF, but he can make it to QF, clay is not a bad surface for his, he can return on it and has good serve so other players will have less chances. he had 67 bps in 6 matches last year. :yeah:

And you do it in fact rather seriously and with no style whatsoever, unlike tangy who is at least funny at times.

Yeah but many people treats him as qualifier or court staff during tournaments. And I can assure you that more poeple than my family and highschool class know me and it is pointless, if you haven't seen that my question "who is Ljubicic" was an irony that's not my problem.

The key for him this year is to stay injury free. And I think it was very important for him to keep his mind today and not choke against someone that he had such a bad losing record - even if Ivan was not playing his best.

I have gave credit to Ljubicic many times when he played good times( for example after Doha ) so I am not like nonsense basher bashing him everytime - only when he loses. And I can ridicule Ljubo's achievements because he has no achievements there were countless players like him winning few MM tournaments, being clowns in GS never winning anything big, on the other hand some Ljubo lovers ridicule Nadal (for example IvanLjubicic) or Roddick, but both of them are in the different class in terms of achievements and they are still GS contenders. Some posters are writing about Ljubo as he is a real great player, with titles with ability to win big matches, tournaments etc and it is not true he is not even close to Davydenko. And I don't have to be famous to critize someone if so maybe we should close MTF?? Beacuse I don't know how many so famous people post here but I am sure not much, and still Roddick, Nadal are bashed all the time by other General noones which is even more "silly" than bashing Ljubo achievements because Andy and Rafa achievements are far greater than Ljubo.

I've watched like 7-8 of his matches in the past 3 weeks and he looks simply great. Effortless play, Federesque I'd say. Can't point to any real weakness in his game (other than choking, but he seems to be better lately, beating Nole twice in a row in tight matches and now whipping Ljubo). Today for example he showed he had no problems returning those bombs of Ljubo. Tried to read his serve and often succeeding. It's no small thing to break Ljubo 3 times in 2 sets, even if he doesn't play very good; his serve is usually still there even when he can't hit a forehand to save his life. So kudos to Misha for pulling this off. :worship:

Federer of course recognizes talent, him being greatly talented as well. Nole isn't too shabby either but consistency and persistance are his greatest assets.

To me, the highlights of AO were easily Gonzo's matches till the final. Fed's beatdown of Roddick was a little bit too cruel for my taste I must admit... and I didn't see Fed-Misha match, I was at work

Well, thats an opinion. I happen to disagree. Some people might as well say they don't think Sampras really deserved to win 14 slams mainly with his unbelievably solid service game and not much above that. What is the relevance of those opinions? Ljubo was #3 at some point, he got there by winning matches, so he did deserve it. Whether you like that fact or not doesn't matter one bit. I'm not delusional about Ljubo. His GS record is indeed poor. What to say, some people deliver at big stage, some don't. I like him anyway. After all, I've never even been to big stage myself let alone produced anything there; and I guess noone here did either. I don't fool myself into thinking that I can even imagine what it feels like.

I dont know about that but i do know you have said Blake is a big stage player. That still might be the funniest thing i have read on MTF to date.

I didn't wrote that he is big stage player that he is better big stage player than Ljubo so do not manipulate with facts because he has made TMC final which was pretty big achievement

Horatio Caine

what about Blake?

Blake's best GS result came in a run when he took out a top 10 player, no? Ljubo's...no-one in top 60. Add to that...Blake has more career titles than Ljubo, and he has appeared in a Masters Cup final. He is no worse than Ljubo

What do you mean completely different styles? Are you referring to their games? In my opinion their games are nearly identical with blake having the better forehand and ljubo the better serve. Both try to end points as quickly as possible.

Blake is a great mover and runner, Ljubo is not. Blake hits hard and flat off both wings, Ljubo prefers well placed slices and loopy topspins. Blake has great FH, Ljubo a mediocre one, but a great BH (lately it's been off though). Ljubo is a serve machine, Blake is at most a solid server; yet Blake is a better returner. All in all, I don't see much similarity between them; even though particular similarities do exist. After all, the both hold their racquets with the right hand, you might consider that a similarity as well.

Hmm, nothing to take out of Misha, but if Ljubo plays like today, he's bound to lose some big points at the next 2 tournaments. 475 points on the stake.

On the other hand, not everyone can handle his serve with ease. He can sometimes come through even playing rather crappy.

Both. Misha played really good and it would be hard for Ljubo even if he himself played good. Since he didn't, hence the scoreline.

What is pathetic is when someone comments on a match which they pretty obviously haven't seen.

Youzhny served great in this match, he was hitting lines all the time. Any time Ljubo came close to a BP he would just bang 3 aces/unreturnables in a row. It's true Ljubo doesn't return well, but the stuff Misha pulled off today would trouble even far greater returners.

I felt kinda sorry for Ljubo since he was obviously still tired from the match the night before but I highly doubt he would have beaten Misha, in the form that he was in this week, even if Ivan had been on top of his game. The guy played some solid tennis while Ljubo lost more rallies then I could count this week. Anyway, whoohoo! Great win for Misha!

He's pure class and rather modest actually. It was apparent in the match that he had huge respect for Ljubo even though he played way better all the time. There were only a few situations in which there was a hint of a BP (0-30 two times) and he came up with amazing serves right on lines (actually, one of them was even a little outside of the line but Ljubo didn't go and challenge it, because he challenged just the one before and it was in by a few milimeters  ), exactly like he said above. You could see by his reaction after such serves that he was greatly relieved.

Anyway, he really took some chances and went for lines all the time which is why I find it so funny when someone who didn't see the match says that he has 'no serve'. By now, anyone should know that placement beats power any day of the year.
