Star Wars qfs in BA

Montego

di Mauro vs Montanes
Hartfield vs Devilder

if I browse well - only Montanes has been to the ATP final before (three times). But still can be rated as the clown. Who will get to the final this time?

To comparison, the most probable upper section of the draw would be

Moya vs Canas
Almagro vs Chela

quite a difference, huh ?

My points is that I'm surprised to see such qfs in ATP tournament. THey seem like being taken from some challenger in shithole in Botswana.

His point is that these matches are weak, I guess.

All the big names but Cañas and Moya went down before the tournament started or in RR stage.

And if both Willy and Charly go through the RR stage, they would face each other in quarters.

Last years semis:

2001 - Kuerten, Vicente, Acasuso, Gaudio
2002 - Calleri, Chela, Massu, Lopez
2003 - Moya, Kuerten, Coria, Gaudio
2004 - Coria, Gasquet, Moya, Acasuso
2005 - Puerta, Acasuso, Gaudio, Martin
2006 - Volandri, Calleri, Moya, Ferrero
2007 - ¿?

I think Montanes will get to the final. He stands out from that section of the draw, and Latin America is usually a good place for him.

btw what is so bad about those QF? i would go to both of those matches if i were there. just because they're not the top, famous, good looking players that most people seem to support, doesn't mean they'll be crap matches. it's good that these guys have made it to the QF of an IS tournament.

Or maybe your knowledge of tennis is just really poor and you feel that you need to vent off your ignorance by being insulting?

There were quite a few there in the Zagreb final. They were all sleeping. But they were there.

Well, Devilder Def. JCF, Hartfield Def. Chucho, Pico def. Carlos, Lucho def. Nalbo and Willy. Most of these players earned their place in the QF by defeating better known players.

The group of death also played a role because out of the 3 main contenders only one was to qualify for the QFs. it turned out to be the underdog, which is no clay clown by any means

Ferrero Forever

Whats so wrong about these quarter finals is that Ferrero should be there instead of Devilder. Not Devilders fault by no means, he had a chance and he took it so good for him, but Devilder left the country because he thought JC got through. Rightfully JC should be in the quarters, and therefore he probably would have gotten through to the final and mabye even given ferrero fans our first title in god knows how long.

And while these matches might be good, If you pay the money to go to a quarter final, you would at least expect the best players to be there. I'd be pretty disappointed if I paid for a quarter final at the Aus Open and I got stuck watching these players.

i like Ferrero...but it was not a foregone conclusion that he would be in the QF. I agree what happened was ridiculous, but there was nothing to say JC should definitely have been there. If Lapentti had played and beaten him (which is possible), he would not have been there. Don't forget that Devilder beat Ferrero and has come through the ME round, which is also creditable.

So, yes, I think JC got a bad deal, but it was by no means his God given right to be in the QF. Just because the guys aren't top names, doesn't mean they don't deserve to be there or that the matches won't be interesting. The people that buy tickets early for QF, SF and F have to play the odds. If they are just there for the tennis and want to see a good match, there's nothing to say they won't get it. You would have thought an AO SF between Federer and Roddick would be awesome and yet it was a totally one-sided, boring affair.

I'm just sick of people slagging off some of the lower guys because they only follow the big names and jump on bandwagons (because they think the guy is cute or because he's suddenly shot to fame, when they wouldn't have had a clue who the guy was when he was unknown and lower down in the rankings) and think the rest are boring. it's not just about the top guys..

Finals and Semi-Finals are already sold out. They were expecting to set a new attendance record this year (around 65.000 spectators).

And Monaco-Horna was the best match of the tournament.

They may not be the best of the best but i saw those matches and they were entertaining

I thought the problem with JCF was that he wasn't given a chance to qualify for the QF because Lapentti withdrew? Granted, JC took a calculated risk by tanking the first match (after an exhausting previous week in Brazil) and he ended up being punished for that risk, but that whole lucky loser/dead match was silly and a bit unfair.

Yup, that's correct. What I like about BA is that even though their tournament is in the lowest tier of ATP torunaments it's treated like a high-quality one, AND IT IS ONE!. I get it here in the US by TyC Sports and the tournament is unbelievable, maybe more organizers should take a look at this tournament and learn!

Regarding all the tools that think that only the first seeds should be at the end of the tournaments, that just proves how much you admire the sport. Even at Challenger level the quality of play is really amazing and only about 400 players of the thousands that play are able to produce that quality. Maybe you should think before saying that being ranked no. 80 is worth shit, think about how much work that takes and stop acting like ignorants.

Props to Monaco for winning the tournaments and I hope he does beter on HC and Clay this year!

me too.

I only manage to find a few attendance figures of tournaments that make them public. And they only do it when the attendance numbers are good.

I doubt there is a list for all ATP tournaments.
