Dennis van Scheppingen d. Gael Monfils 67 64 63Klaas_nalbandian 02-21-2007, 02:23 PM Lucky Loser Dutchman Dennis the Great defeated Gael Monfils Horatio Caine 02-21-2007, 02:24 PM I thought he had a good chance, but was obviously somewhat sceptical as to whether he could win from a set down. Great that he is back! :yeah: :bounce: Snowwy 02-21-2007, 02:25 PM Terrible result for Monfils, whats going on with him. Labamba 02-21-2007, 02:26 PM the Monfils horror show continues in Rotterdam Gael :( he totally went off the boil after the first set  TMJordan 02-21-2007, 02:27 PM Soon it is Martin's turn to keep the Dutch magic alive :D Apemant 02-21-2007, 02:27 PM Hmm Gael had 3 times more aces, but Dennis had far better % of winning on 1st serve. How come? InfiniteSadness 02-21-2007, 02:29 PM Gael :haha: pathetic... Voo de Mar 02-21-2007, 02:32 PM Good event for the Dutchies so far whereas how lower is their ranking  2moretogo 02-21-2007, 02:35 PM Monfils, what the hell happened to you? Another 1st round loss, these are becoming common place. So sad. zicofirol 02-21-2007, 02:41 PM MOnflis is a joke and overrated, he plays 15 ft behind the baseline, doesnt really play aggresive and seems to have no idea how to construct a point... Voo de Mar 02-21-2007, 02:41 PM Is very upsetting that Dutch tennis has recently so poor players after years of great achievements. Where are the successors of Krajicek, Haarhuis, Siemerink, Schalken and Verkerk? :( It's tough to belive but this week the best Dutchman (Sluiter) is lower in ATP ranking than the best Polish player (Kubot) BTW both countries has only two players in Top 200! Maybe the future is for Dutch tennis with junior world champ thiemo de bakker and other guys like Robin Haase, Igor Sijsling and Jesse Huta Galung. But you never know it with young players, they have potential HybridTheory 02-21-2007, 02:44 PM Dennis :worship: Great result Voo de Mar 02-21-2007, 02:46 PM MOnflis is a joke and overrated, he plays 15 ft behind the baseline, doesnt really play aggresive and seems to have no idea how to construct a point... I agree... In spite of common opinion Monfils isn't very fast. He reaches a lot of balls because he has very long arms and legs and he slithers very well :o marcelwks 02-21-2007, 02:47 PM van Scheppingen was solid all match , serving really well . His game is very good for indoors . But unfortunatelly he had many injuries . Klaas_nalbandian 02-21-2007, 02:48 PM Next Round against Florian Mayer , Dennis leads 2-1 2004 Bucharest Romania Clay R32 Mayer 6-1 6-1 2002 Freudenstadt Germany Clay R32 van Scheppingen 6-4 6-4 2001 Eisenach Germany Clay R32 van Scheppingen 6-3 3-6 6-1 Horatio Caine 02-21-2007, 02:52 PM I agree... In spite of common opinion Monfils isn't very fast. He reaches a lot of balls because he has very long arms and legs and he slithers very well :o He's not a snake  marcelwks 02-21-2007, 02:55 PM In first set Geal hited some monster forehands and backhands . And betfair commentator ask "Why he is not in top20" . Now he knows the answer ;) I like Dennis chances against Mayer but he must be fit like today . Voo de Mar 02-21-2007, 03:00 PM He's not a snake  But he plays like a snake and sometimes bites his opponents with pathetic slice forehands ;) henree 02-21-2007, 03:02 PM I am glad this happened. He needs to take as many painful beatings as he can. Until he realizes it isn't healthy being a super tall counterpuncher. LK_22 02-21-2007, 03:55 PM Next Round against Florian Mayer , Dennis leads 2-1 2004 Bucharest Romania Clay R32 Mayer 6-1 6-1 The last time they played the scoreline speaks for itself Monfils is overrated and in bad form, Mayer however isn't and I would be very suprised if Dennis would win this one. Alvarillo 02-21-2007, 03:57 PM Dennis played awesome, serving and returning!!!!!! Gael was lost at the end! *Viva Chile* 02-21-2007, 03:57 PM :haha: Klaas_nalbandian 02-21-2007, 04:03 PM The last time they played the scoreline speaks for itself Monfils is overrated and in bad form, Mayer however isn't and I would be very suprised if Dennis would win this one. Well I wouldn't say dennis hasn't go a chance, did you see the match he played very well , monfils wasn't playing very bad he even got around 20 aces. The last match was on gravel it ahoy certainly isn't gravel, Dennis is dangerous on this kind of courts but definitely Mayer is the favourite to win JMG 02-21-2007, 04:08 PM van Scheppingen was solid all match , serving really well . His game is very good for indoors . But unfortunatelly he had many injuries . The Dutch Burgsmüller. CooCooCachoo 02-21-2007, 04:38 PM The Dutch Burgsmüller. :tape: Dennis plays very differently from Lars. Much less boring too. Deathless Mortal 02-21-2007, 04:55 PM He get the last LL spot, and he is in the second round now  Monfils :o madmanfool 02-21-2007, 05:03 PM I wish people didn't mention Monfils together with the likes of Nadal, Gasquet, Berdych, Djokovic, Murray, Del Potro,... He doesn't belong there and it was proven yet again today. Voo de Mar 02-21-2007, 06:09 PM The Dutch Burgsmüller. :yeah: jazar 02-21-2007, 06:11 PM i'm not a fan of monfils but that is terrible, he had a good chance to go far this week musefanatic 02-21-2007, 06:33 PM I can't ever remember hearing this guys name, so well done to him :) Monfils should try and spend more time up on his feet and less on the floor, might play better and have less injuries  martinatreue 02-21-2007, 06:37 PM :woohoo: scoobs 02-21-2007, 07:16 PM Monfils had a late challenger in Juan Carlos Ferrero, but in the end, he has to be crowned the winner of today's !OH DEAR! award for services to poor results. RonE 02-21-2007, 07:50 PM van Scheppingen is still playing tennis??? LK_22 02-21-2007, 08:40 PM Well I wouldn't say dennis hasn't go a chance, did you see the match he played very well , monfils wasn't playing very bad he even got around 20 aces. The last match was on gravel it ahoy certainly isn't gravel, Dennis is dangerous on this kind of courts but definitely Mayer is the favourite to win I agree, I never said Dennis hasn't got a chance, he's made the most of his LL spot and I think if he can serve well he can definitely trouble Mayer. It's just there's a big difference playing somebody who's in form and somebody who's woefully out of it ljubicic_ 02-21-2007, 10:57 PM van Scheppingen is still playing tennis??? He's 31 if he isn't injured he could play 2 or 3 years more Sunset of Age 02-22-2007, 12:03 AM van Scheppingen is still playing tennis??? yes, at 31!!! :worship: And if he continues to play like he did today... well, who knows how far he can still get. RickDaStick 02-22-2007, 02:03 AM yes, at 31!!! :worship: And if he continues to play like he did today... well, who knows how far he can still get. Dont see him getting past Ljubo in the quarters. franklibby 02-22-2007, 09:45 PM I wish people didn't mention Monfils together with the likes of Nadal, Gasquet, Berdych, Djokovic, Murray, Del Potro,... He doesn't belong there and it was proven yet again today. I fully agree. I could never figure out why he's always lumped in with the real up and comings. The press seems to put him in the spotlight as the next greatest thing on those somewhat rare occasions when he wins, especially ESPN. UncleZeke 02-23-2007, 02:39 AM expected more from Monfils. vincayou 02-23-2007, 08:06 AM Monfils is going nowhere. He had some potential, but hasn't improved in the last 2 years. Kolya 02-23-2007, 08:52 AM Scheppingen has been around for soooo long. Nice win. JMG 02-23-2007, 09:00 AM :tape: Dennis plays very differently from Lars. Much less boring too.
