Players meet more than once in a tournament

I am wondering how often players play against each other more than once during the same tournament.

I guess it happens quite often where more than one player progresses from a group stage (e.g Masters Cup).

However, in straight knock out tournaments I guess it will only happen when a LL is promoted to the Main Draw and subsequently plays against the qualifier who previously beat them. How common is this occurence?

Is there any other scenario I have overlooked?

Uncommon occurrences.
One (of my memory)... happened in Indian Wells 1998.
Qualifying Round: Wayne Black def. Nicolas Lapentti 6-3 2-6 7-5
Second Round: Nicolas Lapentti (LL) def. Wayne Black 1-6 6-3 6-0

I remember one thing, but it was on wta tour... i think it was RG qualies, Flipkens played against somebody, and won, and then lost in the MD (i think it was that way) but that's not on ATP tour...

Arvind Parmar and Dominik Meffert in Rotterdam last year.

Meffert beat him 76 76 in the final qualies round but Parmar beat him 63 63 in the second round after getting an LL spot.

1) funny that the loser would go on to meet the more important of the two matches - the MD one. I wonder if it has something to do with mid-match or pre-match knowledge that a LL spot was promised already even with a loss, and so the higher ranked/better player wouldn't mind losing the final qualifications, since he would make it to the maindraw anyway, where amusingly he met his "conquerer" again just because of mere chance.

2) in the wtatour, an amazing repeat match accured when Ivanovic would beat Czink in a low TierIV event in Australia in the third round match of qualifications.
not only was it a Q VS LL final match without seeds, in which they both upset thier respective ways all the way to the final, but Ivanovic would beat Czink again in a matter of 5 days and lift the trophy.

It looks like on virtually every occasion when this happens the result is reversed in the second match! Maybe it's the psychological pressure on the winner of the first match that somehow is a big disadvantage?
