Henman takes Vegas gamble

After months of inactivity, Tim Henman has chosen Las Vegas as the site to get his career back on track

TIM HENMAN has never been interested in the riches on offer to those who gamble, but after four months of inactivity he has chosen Las Vegas as the site to get his career back on track. Henman, absent from the competitive arena since October, insists he will be ready to make his Davis Cup return for Great Britain against Holland in April, and will resume his career at the Tennis Channel Open, which begins next weekend.

The former British No 1, forced to miss the Australian Open with knee problems, has given ammunition to those who believed his career might be over by announcing successive withdrawals from tournaments in Zagreb, Marseille and this week’s ABN Amro championships in Rotterdam, where he has reached the final three times.

However, the 32-year-old was dismissive of such speculation. “I got back to play full-out sets on court last Monday and felt no reaction whatsoever with the knee,” he said. “I was set to head out to Rotterdam, but then I went down with the flu and was laid up in bed for three days. The injury is fine, but I took the view that it would have been foolish to try to return after so long with my basic fitness levels down after being bashed around by a virus.

“I have taken a wild card into the Las Vegas tournament, which should provide excellent preparation for the year’s first Masters Series tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. Not only is it on the same surface, but the opening rounds are played in a round-robin format, so I am guaranteed at least two matches. I admit I am not an advocate of staging tournaments in this way, but in this instance it suits me perfectly.”

Yay! I want Henman to make a major comback to the top 10, but I doubt it'll happen, unfortunately. IF he can stay healthy and injury free, top 20 for sure, maybe top 10... But it's a big if!

I don't like Murray- he reminds me of a moody teenager, but at least he's having sucess I guess. Good to see a Brit doing well.

C'mon Tim. Ranking has remained (amazingly) pretty unscathed so far this year despite not playing, so lets go deep!

Good to have you back

Great news! :yeah:
The last few months of the last year went pretty well for him, if I remember correctly, so I hope that he'll be able to continue where he left off.

:haha: Better thanb withdrawing for a stubbed toe ;)

Well, yeah...and golf :D

...plus the fact that Eurosport seem to be following Murray more these days, so Tim wants a piece of the action as they're no longer interested in European indoor events ;)

Good idea playing Vegas, gives him time to find his form and a fairly weak field especially when compared to Dubai

You usually post bullshit, but I like this thread so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. ;)

Mahut and Lopez are both beatable, and if Tim had a few matches under his belt already this year, I'd expect him to progress. At least both opponents play a similar style, so if he wins the first match, I'd expect him to win the second (even though one is left and one is right).

QF with Hewitt wouldn't be nice...but Spadea could come out of that group to meet him, which would be slightly better, even though the match-up isn't great.

I just hope he makes it to court first...

So the big question, how many games will Henmania manage in Las Vegas during his stay?

Dancing Hero

Las Vegas? He'll get to see some of the casinos anyway:)

I don't think Henman will soon be British no.1 again, that looks like Murray's place from here on in, realistically.

Murray bashing is not bullshit - its needed;)

as for Henman he has quite a good draw actually!
fingers crossed he gets past round robin stage:D

...and I'm intrigued to see how many matches Ljubo will win at the Slams this year...anything over 2 will be very decent. He should be given a handicap start, but he can start on 0 games with Young.

henman could easily win his group. but then he will lose in QFs, cos of his lack of match practice. but before you know it he will be back challenging nadal for the french open
