I can give explainations to my choices - I didn't choose any challenger/futures players and also didn't choose anybody from my country, concentrating on these well known (or to be well known in closest future).
I chose players from very recent times, because when I was younger, I liked only Rios and didn't care much about others.
Most of them I chose because of the game they perform, the style that attracts me (my top 3 were Rios, Nalbandian and Grosjean), Monfils and Korolev got there for personality.

10. Albert Costa
(honorable mention goes to Justin Gimelstob, Alex Corretja, and Felix Mantilla)
That's tough but i 'll try to make it:
1- Federer: For his talent, good attitude on and off court and the way he thinks about charity , life of a sportsman in general.
2-Rafael Nadal: For his determinative attitude, his hard working concept(Guess deep down knowing he's not the best on earth,) but still he goes on with contineous fights/struggles to be better. More or less, i sympathize with this attitude. Together with his not yet fully discovered talent and guess i need to see it succeeding. Besides, his good attitude as a successful young player , And Lastly for being ambidextrous. :)
3- Edberg: He's propably the reason i liked this sport. For talent and for being the gentleman of all tennis sportsmen (including Fed. :)).
4- Becker: For his spirits and talent regardless of his off court life.
5- Stich: Personality on court, personality off court , and Talent.
6- Kuerten: For his talent and good personality.
7-Muster: Yes, i like clay courters.
8- Mansour Bahrami : Interesting to see how this guy struggled to become a tennis player , and regardless of his clown mode..his backhand is magical.
9- Moya: I said i like clay courters.
10- Coria : Talent.
Edit: I don't know if i am the only one to think this foolishly, but this order for numbering doesn't necessarily mean that i'll always root for example for number 1 against the number 2 player in their meetings. For me Rooting among favorite players in this list differs according to the situation. :silly:

I always find this so much harder than the most disliked thread, and I can never decide which order to put them in, but I will try..........
1. Guillermo Vilas
2. Thomas Muster
3. David Ferrer
4. Tommy Robredo
5. Agustin Calleri
6. Goran Ivanisevic
7. Marat Safin
8. Juan Martin del Potro
9. Mats Wilander
10. Dmitry Tursunov
1 Roger Federer (Just want to bring up two quotations from famous players who exactly say what I think: “I've never enjoyed watching someone playing tennis as much as Federer. I'm just in awe” (Tracy Austin) “Well, I think when I look at Roger, I mean, I'm a fan. I mean, I'm a fan of how he plays, what he's about, just the fact that I think he's a class—I don't know him personally, but seems like he's a class guy on and off the court. He's fun to watch” (Pete Sampras)
2 Gustavo Kuerten (A wonderful, charismatic player with a special connection to the audience. His matches are unforgettable. Such a tragedy that he had to deal with all his injuries. I’m glad that he tries to come back. He has nothing to prove any more because he will always be: Tennis in the shape of the heart)
3 Patrick Rafter (What a pleasure to see him play. It’s so sad that he never won Wimbledon *sigh* I’ll never forget the final against Goran. Definitely one of the best tennis matches ever and although I never was an Ivanisevic fan I was happy for him that he won the title. I would have loved to see Pat around longer.)
4 Andre Agassi (What a rollercoaster career he had. From his “crazy” days when he regretted to play in Wimbledon, that he was able to win there the first time he attended the tournament, his dropping in the rankings and the unique comeback which lead into his best years. I’m grateful that I was able to follow his career.I’m so happy that he was finally able to conquer Steffi. What a lovely couple.)
5 Michael Stich (Brilliant player – Sampras once said he would be the player with the best game when he had a good day - who could have achieved more when he would have been more amibitious, was unfortunately never really respected in Germany. A shame that he retired so early)
6 Stefan Edberg (It was always a pleasure to see him play, especially against Becker. How sad that he didn’t win Roland Garros. Was a true champion on and off the court.)
7 Boris Becker (made tennis popular in Germany, unbelievable fighter, great rivalries with Edberg and Sampras)
8 Pete Sampras (I’ll never really liked his game – and that he beat my favourite players so often , but I fully appreciate his achievements for tennis. I cried with him when he won his last Wimbledon title in front of his parents. )
9 Mats Wilander (I enjoyed his game, especially his matches in Roland Garros and for the Swedish DC team)
10 - to many to mention who I appreciate as well -
Hey all :wavey: I posted something like this on the dislike thread but I would be interested in knowing your reasons why these players made your list. IE: Looks, personality, game, patriotism etc etc.?
Oh God. I have to order them. Horrible. The list is affected by this weekend
01. Karol Kucera
02. Marco Chiudinelli
03. Flavio Cipolla
04. Mischa Zverev
05. Victor Crivoi
06. Jean-Claude Scherrer
07. Edouard Roger-Vasselin
08. Björn Phau
09. Michel Kratochvil
10. Nenad Zimonjic
Honourable mentions to those in my signature that just missed out :awww:
OK, with explanations:
01. Karol Kucera | The first male player I really, really liked. I loved how he always managed to hide his emotions, and also how he could do so well with such a crap second serve haha. I loved his game, as it was so different. One of the best tactical players.
02. Marco Chiudinelli | Marco is just a great guy. He has got a very nice game to watch and a personality to boot. He is so friendly and down-to-earth. And a great fighter too.
03. Flavio Cipolla | Very nice guy. His game is nice to watch. For me, he has the complete package. I became a fan in Paris last year when I saw him in his match against Hartfield, and both played so well. I saw him in Rotterdam last weekend and he didn't play so well, but I became a big fan because he has a great personality.
04. Mischa Zverev | This guy plays tennis the way I love it. Great game. It's the way it should be played.
05. Victor Crivoi | OK. This is shallow, I guess, but I was attracted to Victor and then I decided I like his game too. He's nothing special. He's a lazy bum. But I like him.
06. Jean-Claude Scherrer | Great personality. Good player too, though underrated. I feel he should become a doubles specialist, but he still seems to disagree.
07. Edouard Roger-Vasselin | So adorable. I love his game (you might have noticed I don't like the hard-hitters). Won me over at Scheveningen last year.
08. Björn Phau | I guess I like frustrating players.
09. Michel Kratochvil | Michel  I miss him. He was a very nice player to watch (again, no hardhitter) and I feel for him. I hope he can make a successful comeback.
10. Nenad Zimonjic | My favourite doubles player. So incredibly talented.

2007 top 10 favourites Of all time?
So, it'll be a mixture of current players with former professionals.
1. John McEnroe: love his creative game, the way he ruled at the net, never a dull moment plus a rather weird looking serve,...
2. Rafael Nadal: love his passing shots from extreme angles, the forehand, his movement on clay, his fire and energy and the many rafisms.
3. Boris Becker: although, he could also end up in my dislike list since it's a love/hate thing with him.
4. Patrick Rafter : one of the few I really liked to watch in that big servers era of the 90s...great serve and volley player
5. Lleyton Hewitt: the man who seems to play better when he has a huge chip on his shoulder
6. G. Coria: so great to watch on clay when he's in shape and motivated, I even love his muttering sessions
7. Henri Leconte: beautiful game, one of those French artistic players who left people wondering why he didn't win more titles...funny at times, arrogant at times.
8. B. Borg: he's not that high on my list because...as you can gather from my list...I prefer the great players who are more extroverts on court. He's still on my list because he was simply a fantastic tennis player to me.
9. Xavier Malisse: a bit odd to see him in this list actually but I simply enjoy watching him play when he's on fire (which doesnt' actually happen all too often, not in the good sense anyway.)
10. Mansour Bahrami : that guy is so much fun to watch!

5 Michael Stich (Brilliant player – Sampras once said he would be the player with the best game when he had a good day - who could have achieved more when he would have been more amibitious, was unfortunately never really respected in Germany. A shame that he retired so early)
I completely agree with Sampras.
I've watched tennis for 17 years and from all non-active players I saw, Stich had the biggest potential.
I didn't like him but he is the only man who would beat Federer (on hard, grass & carpet) - if they both playing its best tennis...

3. Patrick Rafter (AUS) - I like him although IMO he was the weakest No. 1 :o
4. Gaston Gaudio (ARG) - I love his backhand at his best :D
5. James Blake (USA) - I like his spectacular style of play but he's the biggest Top 10 choker ever)
6. Arnaud Boetsch (FRA) - great backhand and extraordinary macth in the 5th rubber of Davis Cup final - one of the best and most dramatic matches in tennis history
7. Stefan Edberg (SWE) - beautiful tennis but one of the ugliest forehands I've ever seen)
8. Jan Siemerink (NED) - serve & volley + return & volley man; he was crazy with frequency of attacking to the net

1. Goran Ivanisevic - at first its for sympathetic reason, failing to win wimby 3 times, also he is so funny and crazy, very patriotic, has a big mouth but is good inside
2. Pete Sampras - let his racket to do the talking, has the greatest mental toughness, never got the respect he deserved
3. Rafael Nadal - not really talented but compensate it by his never say die attitude, so young but so matured, a good person
just love these 3 the most, have to think deep for nos.4 -10?
4. Edberg - didn't watch too much of his matches, but always heard that he is a good person and has good sportsmanship
5. Alex C - same as Edberg
6. Mark P - sympathetic reason, always injured and always couldn't win a slam and he is so gorgeous, lol
7. Ancic - remind me of the good old goran coz he is also from Croatia, although they have different characters
8. Roddick - he may be a bit "overacting" on court, but i do think he is just a "big baby boy", sympathetic for the reason that he always got beaten by roger
cannot think of 9-10 at the moment:p

8. Roddick - he may be a bit "overacting" on court, but i do think he is just a "big baby boy", sympathetic for the reason that he always got beaten by roger
cannot think of 9-10 at the moment:p

of course, I watched his 01 wimby win (well only the last few games coz i have no patience to watch all :o ) at least 30 times, but his broken hearted image after the 98 wimby final firmly sticked onto my brain:p
You do know he eventually won it in a fourth final, dont you?

Calatrava is a man who defeated in two consecutive Master Series events (Rome & Hamburg) two great champions in the 1st round: Agassi (was rank 3) & Sampras (was rank 4)!
This is the highlight of Calatrava's career and it is an amazing achievement when we'll concentrate on his tennis skills :D
thanks Voo de Mar, you are very knowledgable :worship:

I'm sure I've forgotten many players, and that my order will change within a week or 2, but my top 3 is definetly certain
[EDIT] Since everybody else is stating why I may as well do it
Ferrero: Greatest personality, was so nice to me!!! Great player, hot as anything, has made me cry because i've been so happy he's won. Made me addicted to tennis, I could go on all day about why this guy is so great
Robredo: Seems very friendly, I love his game, one of the hottest guys in the world, again really nothing not to love!!!
Gonzo: Makes me get so involved in his matches. His game is brilliant and enthralling, very very nice person, enchanting eyes and smile. Great guy!!!
Verdasco: Sooooooooo nice!!!
Moya: Very nice person, very good game, very good looking too
Nadal: Soooo cute (not as in attractive cute, but personality cute.) Extremely talented player, very good to his fans too. And you can count how many times he picks his 'famous ass'
Mirnyi: One of the nicest players on tour
Chela: Nice, good player and he's hot!!!
Federer: Game is wayyyy too good, and he's extremely friendly. And he's a nerd, i love the way he cries all the time and is so emotional. And that smile, is there anything more cheesy?
Garcia-Lopez: So nice, though he's very shy.
Note: Though it might sound like I like players because they're good looking, thats anything but true. With the exception of Chela, I didn't like any of these players because they were good looking to begin with. I liked their game, and then them being good looking is a plus.

You can never have too much fun ;)
1. Laver- Rocket Rod was who got me involved in tennis in the first place. Over the years I have come to appreciate him a bit more from recent interviews and from old Davis Cup coverage on the tennis channel :yeah:
2. Vilas- haven't a clue what he is like personally but he was the first tennis player that I ever met. This was just before he became famous for winning so much and at the time he was very kind and considerate to this teenager who parked cars at the Longwood Tennis Championships. I watched him play as often as he showed up on my TV screen and just loved watching the Bull from the Pampas then
3. Borg- class and style on the court-nuff said
4.Blake- I like his aggressive style and what I perceive to be his class and style off the court.
5. Roddick- ok so sometimes he comes off as a jerk but I like watching him play and I like his self-deprecating sense of humor
6. Russell- came on my radar last year before his recent challenger wins!
7. DelPotro- another on my radar from last year's Madrid Tournie;looking forward to watching this guy grow in tennis terms
8. Rosewall- not quite as likable as Laver but again who cared back then. All you ever got to see of him was on the court. Great player.
9. Federer- grace of a gazelle and smarts on the court; curious as to how long his reign will last
10. The doubles duo- Ram/Erlich- everyone knows my story, don't feel the need to repeat it anymore. :)
Honourable mention: Tursunov- hysterically funny
Bryan Bros- just like them no major reason-have a great pic of them with a set of female twins who also play tennis;)

I know what to do to survive. ;)
Also, there aren't many players I dislike. My top ten favorites are constantly changing and I basically like all the players on it equally, with the exception of Roger and Rafa. :)

Borg is definitely a fav. I like mature athletes who accomplish 'cool' without seeming to try very hard. They are naturally 'cool' like Alain Delon or James Bond. :)
Borg definitely exudes this.
Federer has some of that, although he has a certain goofiness to him mixed with a regal presence. It makes him very likeable, but in a different way. Still, he handles himself fantastically.
I also like players who are funny/charismatic. Baghdatis is a fine example - he doesn't have to say anything to be funny; he's just full of life. That's why we love Ivanisevic as well. In terms of a more intellectual charisma Safin is fantastic - this is less about carefree innocence (or ignorance) of the likes of Ivanisevic and more about a flawed essence; you like the guy because he's a tragic hero. Other tragic heroes are McEnroe and Nastase - far less likeable but strangely admirable because they fascinate. That being said, neither of them suggest an intellectual aspect.
Some guys are funny unintentionally - eg. Boris Becker with the way he speaks, which is amusing. Lendl was uniquely funny with a dry sense of humour.
Some guys I admire for just being geniune, like Pete Sampras - he doesn't show a lot of charisma, but he doesn't go out of his way to change himself for the public's interest. He is a serious, down-to-earth professional. Rod Laver was as well. He comes to play and generally keeps his mouth shut.
Guys I don't like are posers. These are guys who try too hard to fit in - in spite of their insecurities. They are not bad guys per se, but they reek of bad attitude regardless of how much they work to cover it up.
Agassi fits that mold - he is beloved now but for years he tarnished his reputation by being a petulant a-hole. And he still is, despite the artificial persona he and Steffi concocted for him. It's very effective but very, very fake. He is not entirely to blame for this as his alienation is the byproduct of his difficult childhood. Roddick is also within this mold - he is not nice and extremely insecure in public. It's hard to sympathize with, although one can feel sorry for him. The one positive about him is that his honesty saves face in situations where one expects him to do more harm. This is also why McEnroe saved face.
David Nalbandian fascinates me - I think he's the most misunderstood athlete in tennis. No one can peg him correctly.

This just shows how these polls only reflect the times in which they are conducted. Borg placing (so far) 27th, Lendl waaaay down the list (ok, I never liked him much either, but there are young guys that haven't won anything, or even made the finals of slams that are much higher), and legends like Rosewall and Newcombe have barely registered on this chart so far.

Well, I think it is no surprise that players which the most of the MTF users have never seen play are not included in a list. Also the title of the poll is about the favourite players and not the ones with the most achievements so I'm not surprised about some of the votes.

You're right in a sense, but what it does reflect is a pretty accurate representation of favourite players over the past 10 years, and also that alot of hardcore tennis fans appreciate tennis players for their nuances and not for their achievements.
