Nice. Thought he would choke it away after he was up 5:2 in the 2nd set.
Am I right that his first ATP title is one where he didn't lost a set? Quite impressive.

wow, they should give marsielle a new tournament name, 'inconsistency of marsielle open'. Baghdatis disappoints too much to be a major contender, should of won.

Baghdatis looks so happy, and that although he lost the final.

OMG Gilles! After all the struggles he has had lately. This is great. :worship:
He's worked hard at bringing changes to his game and getting a new coach.

He has spent quite a few years training in France, hasn't he? I'm not surprised he enjoys and feels comfortable playing this tournament then. :p

Well, Baghdatis smiles, no matter the outcome of a final match, I think. But yes, he spent a few years in Bob Bretts tennis camp in Paris. His french is quite good.

Well done to Gilles - always good to get over that hump and get the maiden title - and Marcos made him work hard for it in the end.

I think Marcos showed terrific fighting qualities this week but it was just one too far at the end.

And his graciousness and good humour in defeat are a credit to him. I have no problem with that when he's left it all out on court in defeat. It only rankles when it looks like he's not really tried.

Hmm Baggy was unable to stage yet another comeback.

In other matches he had crowd support, though. Today I guess most people cheered Simon?

Did Simon play good or did Baggy sorta crumble?

Simon was very good and patient. Marcos was a bit impatient!

Congrats Gilou!

Gilles played pretty good yesterday and today. Accurate baseline game, backhand, volleys...

Marcos could won this one though if he wasn't that tired from previous matches and was able to get crusial points...

P.S. It was kinda week Gilles played differently to what he plays as usual

SImon played very well, and kept his head during the second set when he lost a big lead. Baghdatis had flashier points , but sorry Baghdatis fans he never looked like he was in control or would win the match. All in all congrats to Simon :bigclap:

Marcos :hysteric:

But nice one Simon! ;)

His French is perfect (really!) and they weren't in Paris but in the Yvelines (not far though) at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. ;)
The crowd loves him. Even if against Simon in final, apparently it was a bit different obviously. How could one resist the charm of the smiling Cypriot really? :p

Around RG last year (before that it had always been Mauresmo on this billboard...) :

I think it was the first time I heard him speaking french, and since you couldn't hear him that well in the stream, I couldn't judge it perfectly. Excuses, excuses. ;)

And I checked google just to make sure.

Gilles has played very well... I was surprised by his level of play this week. It may have something to do with Tulasne being his new coach cos his results had been awful so far this year.

Congrats! Lets see if he can keep up the good work.

no surprises there, i said he would win. After a win over Soderling there was no doubt in my mind.

the Academy has moved to the Yvelines quite recently. He used to train in Montreuil and this morning I heard Simon saying his parents live 5min from Montreuil and that they had played each others when they were 12-13. ;)

He was injured? That would explain a lot of things... But when asked he said he felt good physically...

He was injured? That would explain a lot of things... But when asked he said he felt good physically... :scratch:I guess kindablue was hinting at the reasons he had to give for not playing in Rotterdam (painful elbow and a foot wart).

He never mentions an injury in the interviews I've read today. Only a mental fatigue.
