I don't know how the hell Youzhny lost that. He dominated virtually the whole match. He just totally threw it away. I don't like using the "c" word. I feel it gets used way too much on here but I'm awfully tempted.

a choke at it's finest

02-16-2007, 07:51 PM
he choked badly

02-16-2007, 07:52 PM
tight match. marcos has an excellent chance to win another title. he'll probably have to beat gasquet, but he can do that

02-16-2007, 07:52 PM
Indeed. Youzhny gave that match away and I'm a fan of Marcos...:o

It wasn't a choke (except for that last shot, that was odd) he only had a one break lead! Baggy just pulled some shots off at the right moment.

It was a good, tight match and thank you betfair again!

Edit: Okay, maybe it was a bit of a choke.

02-16-2007, 07:52 PM
Yea, he was up 4-2 I think, in the final set, with break chances. I really thought he had it in the bag.

YOUZHNY YOU F***ING CHOKER! Even Bilbo's granny in a wheelchair would win that match after having 2/4 30-40.

Misha :bigcry:

Youzhny played an amazing match, except that choke in the end. I really don't see how Baggy managed to snatch this after everything Youzhny threw at him.

Anyway, if Youzhny could just sort out this choking problem, he'd be a clear top 10 material. Awesome movement, awesome defense, powerful strokes off both wings, has a decent serve, good return, good volleys and is very good at picking up balls from the floor. Really, no weakness except that mental issue of closing out matches.

I was actually rooting for Baggy but couldn't help feeling a bit sad for Misha for losing like this...

You forgot to say he has "amazing choke ability".

02-16-2007, 08:00 PM
One has to say the mental demons are still there with Youzhny, his game is fragile and highly-strung in the same way his on-court demeanour is. What is that, the third time this year he's won an opening set 6-2 and somehow frittered the lead away to lose 7-6/7-5 in the third?

Misha blew his chances - no question about that. Baghdatis is a very lucky man.

Well, I happen to like BOTH players, so I really wonder what went on here - particularly if it's indeed true that Baggy pulled out of Rotterdam's ABNAMRO-touney with an injury...?

he seemed to have a minor problem with his right wrist but he didn't require any treatment on it during the match.

What a choke from Youzhny...
Anyway,Congrats Baggy.Win this tourney now,please :)

Youshny played really great and he dominated almost the whole match but Markos toughed it out and make some really great clutch shots when it mattered:cool: .

Great fight from Baghdatis, great hearts and guts.

Seems to me that getting Australia out the way has been a weight of his shoulders because he's been much much better since then.

I don't think this was such a big choke from Misha, the one in Zagreb against Ljubo was much worse imo. :o

Marcos just wouldn't give up and came up with some wonderful shots in key moments. I have to say I haven't seen Baggy run so much in a match in a long time, maybe ever. He showed great heart throughout the match and stayed positive even when being down in the 3rd set. :worship:

It's interesting to see how he will recover from this for tomorrow against Nieminen. Jarkko will get a lot of balls back, so it won't be a easy match for Marcos. They've met once before, Jarkko defeated Marcos 6-2 6-2 last year in Auckland. This match will also be a preview of the upcoming Davis Cup tie between Cyprus and Finland, which will be held in Cyprus in April.

That was a great match, probably the best match in the week. Youzhny could not close it out but the way he was playing it would take a hell of a player to take him down and Marcos was good enough to do it. :yeah:

02-16-2007, 11:30 PM

marcos :bounce:

That was the best match of the tournament so far with great atmosphere, amazing shots and a real fight between the players. Youzhny didn't choke. The crowd was really supportive with Marcos and I guess it helped him a little bit to rise his level at the crucial moment.
