Thanks! Great reporting as usual. Have a great time when you go again. Lots of the players are looking frayed these days. Must be the sun. I assume Fee is telling them all to wear their sunscreen daily. ;)

Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Big support is one way of putting it. During the Federer-Youzhny match at the AO, Frew McMillan mentioned on commentary that he watched some of Youzhny's match against Lu on an outside court in the previous round, but that he was so disgusted by Lu's fans constantly giving Youzhny stick and cheering every point he lost with errors, rather than those that their man won with good play, that he left after about a set.

They aren't the most tennis savvy crowd.

I'm so glad you got to go! (I was a little suspicious Tuesday night when I read that a man had yelled "I love you" at Marat, but even if that wasn't you I'm sure you were involved somehow.) :p Thanks for the reports!

Oh, I TOTALLY forgot the most important quote from last night:

Marat and Lu walked out on court in the same exact Adidas outfit - sky blue shirt, grey shorts, black and white shoes, and they both were playing with Head racquets. But the funniest was when people behind me were like:

"Look! They're wearing the same thing! Does that mean they have the same sponsor?"
"I don't know, they have the same racquet too!"
"Maybe they're doubles partners!" :haha:

Don't worry, I'll be looking at Andy's butt the whole time. His butt will heal any scars that Vinnie inflicts. :haha:

Miscellany/Non-Tennis Items:

1. People starting to reek of wine before the first set of the night session was even over.
2. Some woman sitting behind me commenting on how cute Andy was about once or twice per minute.
3. A woman arguing with her husband loudly while they were trying to find their seats, and then making out with him passionately five minutes later.
4. Looking at the diversity of the audience watching the match and being proud to be a Bay Arean.
5. For those of you who watched the livestream, I should point out that Marat's face looked markedly more tired in person than it did on the video feed/television screens (clearly his face loves the camera ). It's not like it was affecting his play or anything but he did seem a little frayed around the edges.

Miscellany/Non-Tennis Items:

1. There were a few dozen people cheering for Vinnie, which was a few dozen more than I thought there'd be. At some point someone yelled, "Battle-rap, Vince!"
2. Vince complained to the umpire that some fans were heckling him - at least that's what it sounded like he was complaining about, and he kept gesturing over to some people in the stands. It didn't look like anything was done about it, though.
3. Being kind of hungry before the matches started, and then totally losing my appetite when a cadre of people sat down near me and the smell of all their mystery-meat pies/hot dogs/chips with fake cheese/chicken burritos/cheap beer hit me right smack in the face. (Can you tell I don't go to stadiums often?)
4. When two men in the audience appeared on the big monitors overhead, one of the guys grabbed the other guy's face and planted a big wet one on his cheek. Viva Bay Area!
5. People cheering at Andy( Roddick)'s shirt change, and then Vince deciding to change his shirt too so that he could get some attention.
6. There were plenty of Korean fans in attendance, but they weren't as vocal as the Lutards last night.
7. Some people randomly cheering for Brad Gilbert and Norm Chryst; the best was when Norm overruled a call and ordered the point to be replayed and some guy was all: "Go Norm! Yeah, Norm!"
8. Some woman behind me was cheering really loudly and obnoxiously for Andy (Murray), attempting to mimic a Scottish accent while doing so. What made it hilarious was that it was hard to decipher what she was saying because her words were so garbled. In fact, someone in front of me turned and said, half-jokingly half-seriously, "Can you guys keep her quiet?" to which the loud woman said something to the effect of, "It's words of encouragement! It's a Scottish accent!" to which the person in front of me said, "... But... What are you even saying!?"
9. When I was leaving the stadium I was walking behind some people talking about Murray's hair in Korean: "It looks like a sheep!" "No, more like a scouring pad!"

And finally,

10. Someone in the upper level was waving a Scottish flag during the Murray/Lee match. Some people near me said:

"Is that the Korean flag?"
"Yep, definitely. It has to be."

No other journalist picks up such gems. The ATP should pay you to do the write ups. :)
