The man deserves a seperate section for a special event and he has the potential to be a winning Davis Cup team.

Outstanding performance by Willy and gives Argentina a 2-0 lead.

Here is a short interview in English with the man.

Great video lau with Cañas and Koubek.

The TV woman said you look gay and Koubek says "What, you didn't know" and Cañas says "time has changed, he likes the strong guys now".

Willy is in the team to play with the Swedes with del Potro, Nalbandian and Prieto.

He will have plenty of time for the ladies, but there is a big tie for them against the Swedes to win. Hope he can adjust to the surface quickly as he will need to.

I'm sure he'll do well there and of course he likes to represent his country, but I do think it's quite quickly after all those matches at the Miami tournament and with the clay season to come.

Very nice article in Ole today
http://www.ole.clarin.com/notas/2007/04/04/01393524.html

Willy practiced yesterday for 45 mins to try the court. He played with bandage on his leg. He said, it bothered a bit, but less then on monday. He also said that court was very fast.
Luli said they will know for sure if Will's gonna play today or tomorow.

There's no confirmation of the team (I mean 1 and 2 single player) so far....but Willy's physical state isn't perfect yet...and there's some speculation about Del Potro playing the 2nd rubber....

Del Potro closer to playing (2nd rubber) than Cañas - Clarin (spanish) (http://www.clarin.com/diario/2007/04/04/um/m-01393648.htm)

I just read in Argentinas local newpaper La Nación a very interesting article that I think you people are going to enjoy. I am not very good in english so I cant really translate this... It was written in the editorial of today, 5 of april... I know it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread but didn´t really know where to put it.
hope you enjoy it because I for sure did...

Yes, too bad Dave lost
And I agree that under these circumstances they might try to let Willy play on Sunday....
But a muscle tear, even a small one, always has to be taken seriously, so he should be careful and don't put his clay season at stake. It would be such a shame since he's doing so well now.

Coongrat to the Argies being 2-0 up against Russia. Watched most of Nalbandian's match thru livesstream and he looked good and so happy that Del Potro won also.

I don't care who Willy plays the doubles with I just want him to get his time to shine. I really like him playing with Del Potro as with the torunament they played quite well in Halle.

This match will be early in the morning in Perth so livestreaming is a good option.

Willy and Nalbandian lost the doubles. They fought hard but it wasn't enough. Cañas played a very bad match, Nalbandian was average most of the time.

Willy will probably not play again in this tie, since if Nalbandian wins tomorrow then Calleri will probably play the dead rubber. If Nalbandian loses, obviously Del Potro will play.

Aquarianbabe
09-21-2008, 08:15 AM
Hendu I missed the first two sets but what I saw he held his own maybe I am bias. I agree in the final stages of the last set they both played terrible.

Willy did play a good receiving game when they broked and then he backed it up with a good service game. He made some great clutch volleys especially the one where he fell over and got straight back up again, great reflexes. At least they didn't go down in straight sets and they made a fight of it.

When he walked off court he seemed to be so upset, I hope this loss hasn't dented his confidence even further as he didn't lose the match all by himself. I wonder why Macini didn't play him and Calleri in the doubles.

I am still confident that they will go thru to the final.

I have posted the following from a poster called Linex who has gone to the DC tie in BA. I thought you might be interested.

Hi everyone:

Here I am back after a long and cold day at Parque Roca ... It was a grey cloudy day today although fortunately the sun came out for a short while during the last 2 sets of the doubles match.

Regarding the match, I agree with the move to have Nalbi play, the thing was that Cañas started very slowly in this match. David started playing considerably well during the first four games but his sole energy was not enough, he also needed a more energetic Cañas. As the energetic Cañas did not show up by the end of the first set they were both playing awfully while the russians were playing perfect tennis. Good volleys, good play from the baseline from both Dima and Igor, and excellent serving from Dima. It was only when down 3 match points in the third set tiebreak that Cañas woke up and saved 2 match points, the third one was saved by David I think who also won that set with a volley winner. During set 4 both argies upped their level of play, David showed some good volleys and returns and Cañas finally showed a little of his characteristic energy and something of his forehand. But well in the middle of the 5th set and a break up I thought that the match belonged to the argies, but again a drop in level, fist Willy and afterwards David served very poorly and everything was over. I guess the argies had a chance when up 5/4 with Igor serving, during the whole match it was clear that he was the weakest link in the russian team, but he served perfectly and from 6-6 onwards the russians were very strong not making any mistakes. It was funny because during these last 4 games the whole russian bench that had remained quiet during the whole match started jumping, Kolya was the first one to do this, so anti-kolya, but it served a purpose for the russians.

In spanish there is a proverb which says "so much swim to end up dying in the shore" (tanto nadar para morir en la orilla). Well this is what happened today, I thought that match was lost after the russians had killed the argies during the 2 first sets but well as you all know in that tiebreak everything changed and the argies started playing better and better only to decline again in the end ...

To tell you the truth today was not as half exciting as it was on friday, the public was not very much into the match, I do not know what happened, we were all as cold as the weather ...Mago Coria showed up again today but not Pico or Chucho or Gaudio.

martine2

Thanks for the reports :D

I missed most of the DC tie because I wasn't home last weekend, but I saw Nalby-Andreev, the last set of the doubles and the last set of Delpo's deciding match.

I really felt for Willy at the end of the doubles match. He was devastated
Such a relief it all turned out good in the end and :worship: :worship: for Delpo for keeping everything under control under such huge pressure!

I thought Gaston refused to be the commentator... I know about Coria, i was switching to TyC and listened him a bit (wasn't impressed tho), but it's strange that they didn't show Chela since he even postponed his honeymoon cause of the final, but it seems that Willy is MIA...

Snoo it was really quick and if you blinked you would miss him, but he still is looking good can't wait for the season to start in Australia, hopefully I catch him on the telly in prime time.

I am still a bit upset at the result but not as bad as the Argies are though. I am trying not to read to much articles etc.

And it is Willy's birthday tomorrow so no doubt he will have a good time regardless, well he better.

Snoo I saw him a couple of times and Pico was sitting next to him. He had all black on and his hair was tied back in a thick pony. And as Carrie would say he looked hawt. He has a new tatt on his right wrist which is the Argentina smybol. They were only glimpses though. He stood up a couple of times a clapped.

Ange I don't want to impugn your eyesight but are you sure it wasn't Zabaleta? :haha:

Snoo you could be right but I am positive I saw him, plus I don't find Mariano good looking at all.

no ange you are right, I shouldn't have doubted you, I heard he was there, but in the VIP box with pico just like you said, but they didn't show him on Tennis Channel broadcast.

But how on earth could you not find Mariano good looking? he's funny as hell, he has a disgusting ponytail, the world's whitest teeth and that  look in his eyes... :lick:

Snoo that picture you posted was very scary. But I do like a man who has white teeth. I didn't even find chuchoo good looking as I couldn't get pass his scruffiness. Sorry.

Over 40 Snowflake. I think I use to find Mariano gl but that was a few years ago.

The only unkempt look I like is surfie type, as I live near the beach in Perth, Western Australia.

That i fully understand. I though you'd either be too young to understand the appeal of a scruffy man or passed that phase ;)

Near the beach? I envy you as i'm freezing at the 1 degree C :(
