Wow that's so cool! I always tend to give up on players when they are done in the singles draw, but those two make such a good team in doubles too!

We've all been eagerly awaiting for Seb and Nono to reunite doubles but didn't know if we'd get our wish again. This just proves why it was worth the wait!!!!!!! :)

Their doubles rankings are terrible but only because they don't play it enough (I believe Seb's was about #146 prior to this tourny)... and being such good friends makes for a perfect doubles pairing!

They have beaten some excellent teams this week in the Bryans and Knowles/Nester. I can't believe how well they are going and I'm crossing my fingers for them tomorrow!! The really great thing is that this is giving Seb some MUCH needed extra match practice!!

GO SEB AND NONO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

an article about seb and nono's victory :

Zimbabwe duo Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett advanced to their first Pacific Life Open doubles final as a team after defeating second seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi 6-4, 6-4 on Friday. They will now meet French pair Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean, who upset former champions Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor.
Clement and Grosjean, who stunned top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in the second round as well as No. 6 seeds Martin Damm and Cyril Suk in the quarterfinals, are playing in their first tournament together since Lyon in 2003. They continued their impressive route to the final with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Knowles and Nestor, the 1997 and 2002 winners of the Pacific Life Open.
The French duo will be looking to win their second title together, having won in Casablanca in 2000. Clement has won two career doubles titles, while Grosjean has won three.

Clement, Grosjean Claim Doubles Title

French duo Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean captured their first ATP Masters Series shield together with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Zimbabwe’s Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett in the final of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.

Clement and Grosjean, who stunned top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in the second round as well as two-time champions Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor in the semifinals, were playing in their first tournament together since Lyon in 2003.

It was Clement and Grosjean’s second doubles title as a team, having won in Casablanca in 2000. Clement now has won three career doubles titles, while Grosjean has won four.

“We’ve really enjoyed playing together this week,” said Grosjean. “It was the first time we’ve played together this year. We’ve beaten the No. 1 team so we didn’t have any pressure coming into the final. We had our chances in the second set, but fought back in the third to win the match.”

Black and Ullyett were attempting to win their first ATP Masters Series shield together, having previously lost in finals in Madrid (2003) and Rome (2002). The former US Open champions last picked up a trophy in Munich on clay last year. Black was attempting to win his second title in Indian Wells, having teamed with Sandon Stolle to defeat Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach in 1999.

i don't think arnaud had ever won anything at the 'masters' level, singles or doubles.....he never won outside of france either!!! seb had won in paris but a masters title doesn't happen every day. so although i don't think they will plan to become doubles specialists, this must still be a very happy prize. not to mention, it's all esther-inspired........... lol

03-21-2004, 05:27 AM

Did I not tell you they would win?! :)

03-21-2004, 06:49 AM
was marine being negative again?!! lol

Hehe, you know what...if Santoro doesn't come back for switzerland/france........ Seb and Arnaud could.... we can dream, no ?

03-21-2004, 09:46 AM
well done seb and nono !!!
I'm so happy for them ! Best friends : best team !
and thanks so much bix for the pics !
Ah Marine, it would be cool to see them play for the doubles in France/Switzerland, but still I think it would be better for seb if he plays only the singles...wouldn't it ???
anyway, i'm looking forward to the nasdaq-open !
Go seb !

03-21-2004, 10:04 AM
Yes, I don't see Seb playing 3 matches in 3 days...physically...hmmm.... it's not Arnaud ! lol

03-21-2004, 10:44 AM
 :worship:  :bigclap:
This is so cool! What wonderful news! They actually won their first Masters title in doubles! Okay, I give in, I admit, you were all right in screaming for the Grosjean-Clément teaming!!! How did they get this good??? They beat some pretty good names on their way to the title, and they looked just adorably cute together in the pix! Ahhh, my Sunday is getting Grosjean really has to shape up and be agressive, competitive, and highly motivated for the next tournament! I want him to win! In singles! :p

03-21-2004, 10:45 AM

Oops, sorry, I didn't see the pics thanks xuzizhen !

Hehe, you know what...if Santoro doesn't come back for switzerland/france........ Seb and Arnaud could.... we can dream, no ?

it has occurred to me too... sometimes players do try out doubles combinations in tournaments before the davis cup, so that they will be given the chance to play ... and we all know about the rift with santoro. however it's very hard to imagine that seb will play in singles as well as in doubles for france, aka roger for switzerland... so i have to conclude that the arnaud/seb pairing last week was only for a bit of match practice for seb, some (productive) fun for the two friends, (as well as pleasing esther, lol)

03-22-2004, 01:12 AM
Une belle surprise !~ :bigclap:
coz theey don't do doubles very often
:bounce: good trial :worship:

03-23-2004, 06:10 PM
Nice picture of the winners, PJ Girl! They look happy - even if they are holding a kind of vase in their hands! Better than ashtrays, though, don't you think?

03-23-2004, 06:49 PM
hehe. yes. you are so right *lol* i´m still laughing about the ashtray-thing :)
