He made an impression on minority report  (maybe I was trying to pay attention to someone other than Tom Cruise cos I don't like Cruise very much). But he's on Leno and he's like a hyper kid. And he swears a lot and that "bip" sound made my ears ring. Somehow think that he does that deliberately, I mean, swearing a lot. Santoro withdraws

Grand Slam doubles champion Fabrice Santoro has retired from the Milan tournament due to fatigue after a hectic fortnight at the Australian Open, organisers announced Wednesday. Replacing Santoro is Italian lucky loser Giorgio Galimberti.

Fabrice Santoro teamed up with Michael Llodra to win the Australian Open doubles title by beating the defending champions Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor.

The French veteran along with his young teammate were runner ups last year and this year they finally pulled through in Melbourne. A two week effort that took the toll on the 30 year-old who has been forced to withdraw from Milan in order to take a well deserved rest and prepare for his country's Davis Cup 1st round clash against Romania.

Fabrice Santoro will once more team up with Michael Llodra for the doubles in the Davis Cup first round tie. They will be joined by Sebastien Grosjean and Nicolas Escude. The tie takes place from February 7-9.

You're brown, a credible, stable color that's reminiscent of fine wood, rich leather, and wistful melancholy. Most likely, you're a logical, practical person ruled more by your head than your heart. With your inquisitive mind and insatiable curiosity, you're probably a great problem solver. And you always gather all of the facts before coming to a timely, informed decision. Easily intrigued, you're constantly finding new ways to challenge your mind, whether it's by reading the newspaper, playing a trivia game, or composing a piece of music. Brown is an impartial, neutral color, which means you tend to see the difference between fact and opinion easily and are open to many points of view. Trustworthy and steady, you really are a brown at heart.

I found this on CNN SI Jon's mailbag. Quite funny:

James Blake issued the quote of the tournament, if not the year. Asked if he missed the intellectual stimulation of Harvard, Blake responded, "There are some pretty intelligent players as well: Todd Martin and ... let me think of a few more." ;)

... First runner-up comes from the inimitable Bud Collins. After Agassi destroyed Hyung-Taik Lee 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 in the second round, Collins said, "Andre, you realize he's from South Korea and not North Korea." :D

... Second runner-up is Marat Safin. When asked whether he was disappointed about having to pull out of the tournament with a wrist injury, Safin said, "Yeah. Kind of." ;)

... Applause is in order for the Houston Masters Cup promoters, who purchased national advertising spots during Sunday's Super Bowl. We can only hope they weren't produced by the same firm used by Caroline Springs. (If you don't get this reference, you don't know how fortunate you are.) (? what about it? I missed this one completely. Can anybody explain?)

... John McEnroe, hired to provide commentary for Australia's Channel Seven, was at his no-holds-barred best in Melbourne. After Schuettler defeated an injured Roddick in the semis, Mac asked the German if he could beat Agassi in the final. Schuettler's response was noncommittal at best. Mac persisted. "C'mon, Rainer, are you gonna kick his ass?" ... *shrugs*

Hi everyone!

Guess what my colour is??? It's a colour I love, actually:

Red

Your color is red, the color of racy sportscars, blushing cheeks, and luscious roses. Red symbolizes passion, romance, and love. So, since you're ruled by red, you probably trust your feelings more than your brain and tend to act spontaneously. If you see something you want, you go for it without thinking twice — impulsive is your middle name. You don't wait around for people to make decisions, either; you dive right in. Quite the romantic, you pay close attention to your emotions. In fact, if your heart isn't in what you're doing, you won't be satisfied. Of course, even when you do pour all your energy into the projects you tackle, your impetuous nature means your passions can shift as frequently as the wind. That's why some reds have trouble with commitment. Our advice? Next time you're feeling fickle, think before you act, if possible. You might be surprised at the results. Overall, though, it's great to be red. No one lives life more completely than you do.

I don't know about the racy sportscar but I once hitch-hiked home from uni and a guy in an E-Type Jag picked me up [and let me off where I wanted him to -- no more!]!!

If I make decisions it's only because I'm quite impatient... no hanging around for me! I'm SO romantic it's almost impossible for me to have a REAL lasting relationship... Think before I act? Kinda difficult sometimes esp if I'm emotionally involved!! :p

That was fun! I s check the other colours that you guys were!

hey RF. here is an article about the TMC Houston ads:

TENNIS MASTERS CUP HOUSTON Jan. 25, 2003

Houston Joins Super Bowl Fever
Tennis Masters Cup Houston Ads Appear During the Big Game

Houston Tennis stepped into the national spotlight Sunday with three network spots running during Super Bowl XXXVII promoting the 2003 Tennis Masters Cup, to be held at Westside Tennis Club, November 8 - 16.

The Tennis Masters Cup is the season’s final showdown in which the eight best players and eight best doubles teams of the year compete for $3.7 million in prize money and valuable points in the ATP Champions Race for year-end World No.1. The event, which is jointly run by the ATP, ITF and Grand Slams, returns to the United States for the first time since 1989, and will be held in Houston for the first time since 1976. The event will be held in November at Westside Tennis Club, the site of the US Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston and the recent Davis Cup tie against Spain. An 8,500-seat stadium will be built around a hard court surface and the stadium will be lit for night play.

The first spot ran in the last break before kickoff, the second in the 4th quarter during the game and the final spot ran in the first break after the game is over.

Jim McIngvale, tournament promoter and owner of the Westside Tennis Club in Houston, said, ”We are excited that the huge number of sports fans that watch the Super Bowl will learn about the Tennis Masters Cup coming back to the U.S. and Houston. We felt that running the three spots in the big game would help to brand the Tennis Masters Cup as the same caliber of event in the tennis world as the Super Bowl is in Football.”

The Tennis Masters Cup is the culminating event of the professional tennis season and is jointly run by the ATP, ITF and Grand Slams. The world's top eight men's professional tennis players and top eight doubles teams compete in round robin tournaments for $3.7 million dollars in prize money and the chance to end the year as World No. 1.

did you guys see this? Boris Becker has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. :)

NEWS Jan. 28, 2003

Becker Chosen for International Tennis Hall of Fame
Former World No. 1 to be inducted into Newport during ceremony on July 12.

http://www.atptennis.com/shared/photos/other/becker_200x150.jpg
Becker won 49 titles during his 16 years on the ATP circuit.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday that former World No. 1, Boris Becker of Germany, will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer.

Joining Becker for induction are Francoise "Frankie" Durr of France and Nancy Richey of the United States, and Brian Tobin of Australia.

During his 16 year career, Becker captured six Grand Slam singles titles - two Australian Opens (1991, '96), three Wimbledons (1985, '86, '89) and the 1989 US Open. Becker was ranked in the year-end Top 10 eleven times (1985-1996). He finished his career with 49 singles titles and 15 doubles titles. He was a singles winner in the 1988 Masters event (a finalist in 1985, '86, '89), winner at the 1988 World Championships Tennis event (finalist in 1986) and winner of the 1992 and 1995 ATP Tour World Championships Finals (finalist in 1994, '96).

Born November 22, 1967 in Leimen, Germany, Becker was the redheaded teenager that took the world by surprise in 1985 by winning Wimbledon - then the youngest male ever to win a major at 17 years, 7 months. (In 1989 Michael Chang, at 17 years, 3 months, won the French Open.) He was the first German champion and the first unseeded player to win the Men's Singles Championship. In 1986 he successfully defended his Wimbledon title, stopping Ivan Lendl in the final. At 6 feet, 3 inches, Becker's game featured a big serve, heavy groundstrokes and penetrating volleys. A crowd favorite at Wimbledon, he reached the finals seven times in 10 years (1985-'95). In the 1995 Wimbledon semifinal, he defeated Andre Agassi from a set down and behind 2 service breaks to win 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-4, 7-6(1). But in the final, he couldn't overpower another young American, Pete Sampras.

Becker played Davis Cup for Germany from 1985-1999, leading his country to victory in 1988 and 1989. His career Davis Cup win-loss record stands at 54-12, including an impressive 38-3 in singles. In 1985, he was named the ATP Most Improved Player of the Year, then four years later in 1989, he was named the ATP Player of the Year. Becker also earned Olympic Gold in Barcelona, Spain (1992) where he partnered with Michael Stich to win the men's doubles title for Germany.

"I am very delighted and feel the great honor, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame," Becker said. "It has always been my dream to be a part of this honorable institution and I will treat my membership with great respect."

Other inductees

Francoise "Frankie" Durr was the World's No. 3 ranked player in 1967. She holds 12 titles in Grand Slam events (11 in doubles, 1 in singles), with 26 career singles titles and over 40 doubles titles. She was ranked nine times in the World Top Ten from 1965-1976.

Nancy Richey was the World's No. 2 ranked player in 1969. She holds 6 Grand Slam titles: 2 career singles Championships (1967 Australian Championships, 1968 Roland Garros) and 4 Doubles Championships (Australian 1966, Wimbledon 1966, and US 1965 and 1966).

Brian Tobin has devoted over forty-five years of his life to the game of tennis. He has been a member of Tennis Australia since 1964, serving as President from 1977 to 1989, overseeing the building and opening (1988) of the current stadium for the Australian Open.

Miata is the car I want. When I was looking for my first car, I wanted a Miata but my hubby said no and end up I have a , *sign* 323. But, the next car will be a Miata!!!!!!!

it's too bad that Fabrice Santoro had to pull out of the tournament but i thought he had to be tired after all the tennis at the Aussie Open. i guess buying him for my team this week was a big mistake. :( but fortunately this opens up Max Mirnyi's draw. David Sanguinetti in the 2nd round is much easier than Fab. GO GO MAX!! :bounce:

Gosh, my arm is still sore. What's going on? I think it's complaining that I spent too much time in front of the computer, so when I rest my arm on the mouse, that's the most uncomfy position. I even have to eat with my left arm these days cos I have difficulty holding my arm up. :(

Vera

I don't know if it's bcos of that position that caused the soreness but it hurts more when I place my arm there. I don't have a arm rest. I've spent a lot of time in front of the computer anyway, my past jobs are all in front of the computer the whole 10 to 12 hours working day. So I'm surprised if this soreness is due to the computer use. But then, I guess it's cumulative anyway. :(.

in last night's eppy, Lorelai went out on two dates with her new boyfriend (i forget his name). on the first date they went to a coffee shop to try out different kinds of coffee (the guy is planning to manage a coffee shop) and of course Lorelai loved that. on the second date they went on an outdoor trip and did some fishing. Luke helped Lorelai to learn how to fish before she went on her date b/c she was didn't even know how to hold the rod lol. as far as i know, Lorelai and this guy haven't kissed yet.

unfortunately Luke has a new girlfriend also, so that means we'll have to wait even longer for Lorelai and Luke to FINALLY get together (i'm convinced that they;re soulmates :D). she's Taylor's lawyer and she needed to get Luke's signature so that he could become official business partners with Taylor (remember he is using Luke's property to build that ice cream shop). she started flirting with Luke and eventually he asked her out. this is his first girlfriend since Rachel.

anyway, Lane asked her mother if she would allow her to go to the he's not Korean. :( also, Lane's cousin got married and they had a wedding at her house. Paris and Rory are still fighting and Paris doesn't want to make up. imo, she's totally overreacting and should really be mad at that red-haired bimbo.

I scheduled the VCR to record the eppy every week but it's my studid digital converter. It must be on for my VCR to receive any signal and I guess Vince turn it off. To make matter worse, I think it's again Vince rewind the tape so I lost the first eppy (Dean declare war on Jessi) too when my VCR start recording blanks on top of that eppy.

i don't think Jess is as wild and crazy anymore. he hasn't gotten in any serious trouble on the show recently. and they haven't said anything about him skipping classes or starting fights so i think he is more tame than last season.

Sharing something with my friends.... :)
This song is so touching!

Know a man... his face seems pulled and tense
Like hes riding on a motorbike... in the strongest winds
So I approach with tact... Suggest that he should relax
But hes always moving much too fast

Said he´ll see me on the flipside... of this trip hes taken for a ride
hes been taking... too much on... off he goes
with his perefectly... unkept clothes... there he goes

Hes yet to come back... but I see his picture
Doesnt look the same up on the rack... we go way back

I wonder about his insides... its like his thoughts are too big for his size
Hes been taken... where? I dont know... of he goes
with his perfectly... unkept hope... there he goes

And now I rub my eyes... for he has returned
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned
for he still smiles... and hes still strong
nothings changed but the surrounding bullshit... that has grown

And now hes home and we´re laughing
Like we always did... my same old... same old friend

Untill a quarter to ten... I saw the strain creep in
He seems distracted and I know just what is going to happen next

Before his first step... he is off again

Damn, this makes me remember everytime I catch myself talking to my dad on some dreamland. How come these lyrics ALWAYS have something to do with my life. Gee!

Elena D. also def. S. Cohen Aloro (FRA #166) 62 62 ;) I never thought I would be so happy for her to win 2 matches in a row one victory being over a girl from a second hundred :o

And last, but not least Richard K and Zhenia are into the quarters in Milan :bounce:

More gossip, this time from Eurosport.com:

No Fed Cup for Dokic

Jelena Dokic said on Thursday that she had "better things to do" than play for Yugoslavia in the Fed Cup when she becomes eligible to do so next year.

The 19-year-old, who switched from Australian citizenship in 2001, insisted that she had no interest in the Fed Cup, blaming her decision on schedule clashes and alleged mis-treatment by Yugoslav authorities.

"It's definitely not something I want to look into and play right now. I don't think it's the right thing to do and I think I have better things to do than focus on the Fed Cup," said Dokic after winning her first match of 2003 at the Pan Pacific Open.

A report in a Belgrade daily earlier this week quoted her father and coach, Damir Dokic, as saying she would snub Yugoslavia at the Fed Cup and the 2004 Athens Olympics after being "let down" by the new leadership.

"That was a true report," said the world number eight after her 7-6 6-4 win over Indonesian Angelique Widjaja in Tokyo.

"I think it will pretty much stay like that. First of all, it doesn't fit into my schedule, the Fed Cup. It's right between tournaments."

Dokic, who represented Australia in the 2000 Fed Cup, went on: "Second, I don't think I want to play for them, you know. I wasn't treated that greatly. It's not in my mind to do that right now and just doesn't fit in."

The Dokic family emigrated to Australia in 1994, but Jelena reassumed Yugoslvian nationality two years ago, saying she did not feel welcome in her adopted country.

Under ITF rules a player must wait for three years before becoming eligible to play in the Fed Cup for different country.

ASYLUM

The Vecernje Novosti also reported on Monday that Damir Dokic said his family would seek political asylum in London during Wimbledon this year because of a dispute with Serbian authorities.

"Quite simply, Jelena feels she has been let down. The new Serbian authorities stood in line to take photos with her when they needed it and stabbed us in the back when they should have helped us," he was quoted saying.

"We want to stay in Serbia but we will have to leave again if things don't change. My intention is to ask for political asylum during Wimbledon and move my family to...London."

The Vecernje Novosti said the trouble began when authorities allegedly refused to sell land to Damir Dokic to build tennis courts and for agricultural purposes.

The paper reported that Damir Dokic had accused the Serbian leadership of adopting a policy of "zero tolerance for political opponents" and treating them unfairly because of their support of the Serbian Radical Party.

and some Goran news :)

Ivanisevic ready for tie

For the third time in his Davis Cup career Goran Ivanisevic will not play in the singles clashes. The Croat star is still in pain after recovering from surgery and cannot withstand a full three set singles match. However, he is keen on defending his country's colours and will participate in the doubles.

The big serving Croat underwent shoulder surgery last May and made a more or less successful comeback last week by entering a challenger tournament in Germany. He made it past the first round but was forced to withdraw form the next match complaining of unbearable pain.

"I couldn't make an impact in my match with Sluiter because of the pain," added the Croatian who only lasted 20 minutes against the Dutchman.

Ivanisevic has been the key to Croatia's Davis Cup success amassing a 47-15 win loss record since 1988 (playing for Yugoslavia) allowing his nation to go as far as the quarter-finals in the World Group in last year's edition.

Ivanisevic began his Davis Cup career in 1988 in the doubles alongside Slobodan Zivojinovic leading Yugoslavia into the semi-finals of the World Group where they where humiliated by the Germans 5-0 who where led by Boris Becker.

The following years the Croat star participated in both singles and doubles clashes. In 1998 and 1999 he did not take part in the Davis cup and last year he led Croatia into the quarter-finals of the World Group.

Unfortunately the Croats fell to Argentina 3-2 in the final reverse singles. Ivanisevic did not play in the singles as his shoulder had already begun to give him trouble.

Despite his injured shoulder Ivanisevic is keen on playing and will do his best to defend his country's colours next week-end.

"Doctors examined him and agreed his condition has improved but he is still unable to endure best-of-three-sets singles matches," a national tennis association official told Reuters. "He will, however, play doubles."

Dokic is alive
I had TOTALLY forgotten about her existance...
Xavier keeps on his mini-slump....

Im also very happy for Lina K and specially Jonas. I really considered buying him, but figured Domi´s draw was a little easier... I should. :( Hrbaty is tied 1 set a piece with Ljubicic, both in tiebreaks.

Also, Im working on the rules for the game, and will try to make them look reasonable for the week after Davis Cup, when we will need them again. Thanks for the tip, Lee! :)

Also, I have some sad though expected news: my granddad passed away late last night. He was very weak and suffering, and stopped breathing somewhere around 1 am. The night was pretty tough and I slept all of 3 hours.
But I also have good news on my ankle, since theres nothing serious with it. I had some little damage, and should just keep it resting for a week, and do some exercises on warm water. But he took the godamned cast away, so that was great. :)

US dependent on unaccomplished Davis Cup squad

By Sandra Harwitt
tennisreporters.net

It's a good thing that the current US Davis Cup Captain is Patrick McEnroe and not his older, more illustrious brother, John, who begged for the position a couple of years ago and then begged out of the role after a year.

The reason being for this opinion is that John sees the world in black & white – in tennis terms, that's win or lose. Patrick is a more realistic individual and sees situations a little more abstractly, in shades of gray. That will be a very serviceable trait for Patrick McEnroe when he takes an unaccomplished, if enthusiastic, squad of young Americans – 23-year-old James Blake, 21-year-old Mardy Fish, 21-year-old Taylor Dent and 20-year-old Robby Ginepri – to play Croatia, in Zagreb, in the first round of Davis Cup action, Feb. 7-9.

Any which way you turn things, the US will be the underdogs in this tie and it's not because they are the visiting country who will be without a great many fans on their side.

The real reason that the US will need a miracle to survive is that their leading man Andy Roddick is unavailable for action with severe tendinitis in his right wrist that is reportedly moving up to his forearm, superstars Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras have sworn off Davis Cup action, and the Croatians have what appears to be a more formidable team.

"A changing of the guard with our Davis Cup team is complete," said McEnroe, always able to think the glass is half-full as opposed to half-empty. "This is an opportunity for our guys to step up, and it will make us a better team down the road. When Andy comes back, we will be stronger."

McEnroe had hoped that Roddick, who re-injured his wrist during his historic five-set quarterfinal marathon with Younes El Aynaoui at the Australian Open, would heal fast enough to be ready to join the Davis Cup team in Zagreb. Unfortunately, McEnroe did not hear the good news he hoped for which left him scrambling to put together a viable team.

"I spoke with Andy last night as soon as I returned from Australia," said McEnroe. "He had just come from seeing a doctor in Los Angeles. They suggested to Andy that he not pick up a racket for at least a couple of weeks. He's had ongoing problems with the wrist over the last year and a half. He's very disappointed, but this is something that he needs to take care of now. He needs to rest it and get it back to a hundred percent health, or the doctors, as they told me and told him, it could be an ongoing problem for a long time. So certainly we all don't want that to happen with Andy. He's a huge part of our Davis Cup team. A huge part of American tennis for now and the future."

GAMBILL CALLED BUT NOT ON TEAM
When Roddick informed McEnroe that he would be unable to play, the American captain did put in a call to Jan-Michael Gambill, a player with some amount of Davis Cup play on his resume, but the two could not work out arrangements on such short notice.

It also doesn't hurt the Croatian cause that they have the presence of Wimbledon champ Goran Ivanisevic, who is just returning following shoulder surgery last May and might be relegated to doubles-only duty, to boost their luck. On top of that they have talented youngster Mario Ancic, Ivan Ljubicic and little-known Lovro Zovko.

McEnroe understands that it will be a monumental task for his squad to pull off a win and move into the quarterfinal round in April. Only Blake comes to the table with Davis Cup experience of value, although Fish has performed in doubles once, last February, when he teamed with Blake to beat a Slovak duo.

McEnroe also understands that his options were limited so you take the players available – the players that are destined to comprise the US Davis Cup player pool, along with Roddick, for years to come.

Of particular note is the arrival of Dent to the team, a player that the Australians tried to court to their side. Dent's father, Phil, was an Aussie Davis Cup star, but Taylor's mother is American and he was born and raised in this country. Dent possesses a power game that's based on his titanic serve and some more experience should lead to his being a force to be reckoned with on court. But heading to Zagreb he's been out with an injury pretty much since the US Open which leaves him less than prepared for Davis Cup action.

At this point in time, Dent, along with Fish and Ginepri, are raw talents and cannot be depended upon to come through in the crunch, although they certainly will have their hearts in the right place. While Fish's recent victory over Carlos Moya at the Australian Open certainly will work in his favor, Davis Cup is a very emotional charged and pressure situation, a feeling the young Floridian has not yet encountered.

Nevertheless, it is to McEnroe's credit that he is heading off to Zagreb with a positive attitude. And there's one fact that American fans can count on – McEnroe is a born motivator and he will provide his neophyte squad with every opportunity possible to come through the tie winners, even if that doesn't mean actually winning the weekend, but coming away with a feeling that winning could be in the future for this squad.

RODDICK PULLS OUT OF SIEBEL OPEN
Siebel Open officials confirmed that Roddick has not only sent his regrets to the USTA about being unable to play the Davis Cup, but has told them he will not be ready for action at their event in San Jose, Calif. the week of Feb. 10. Other events, such as the Delray Beach, Fla. tournament the week of March 3, where Roddick is slated as the top seed, will be sitting nervously awaiting word whether their marquee name entrant will be fit to play.

hey, looks like the guy who beat Juanqui in Vienna last year was on steroids :fiery::

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Czech tennis player Bohdan Ulihrach tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone during an ATP Tour event in Moscow in October.

Ulihrach issued a statement announcing the result and adding: "I can't explain how the banned substances could get into my body."

The positive result came on the "A sample" of the test. He won't be punished unless a second — or "B sample" — also turns up positive. Ulihrach, who would be subject to a two-year ban in that case, said he expects to learn the results of the "B sample" in the next few days.

He said he passed a drug test in New York on Aug. 28, and in Vienna on Oct. 11, a week after the positive test.

Czech tennis officials refused to comment Thursday.

The 27-year-old Ulihrach has won three ATP Tour singles titles, and his highest ranking was 22nd in 1997. He's never been past the fourth round at a Grand Slam tournament and lost in the first round at all four majors last year.

Ulihrach said he was injured in December and that's why he won't play for the Czech Republic in next week's first-round Davis Cup match against Russia.

Hrmm... I've just submitted my first Sindarin exercise sheet...there was just one question, which asked to locate which syllable in several words should be stressed. So I did that, and put my answer in the 'your answer' section, but there were two other sections: 'your conclusions on finishing this exercise', and 'your notes on this exercise'. I left both blank. :o :o

I am still wondering if I should have at least offered some summaries and notes in those sections (sounds so 'freshman-like'! :p)... oh well, I'll do it for the harder exercises.. :o :p

Wow, we haven't been very chatty lately :( I need some chattiness to keep myself from going insane.

I'm soooooo glad its Friday. This week has been so long -- I already feel like I need a break :o Of course, paging through GM I had a good hearty laugh this morning, at Eggy's "Sampras: I Can Win Roland Garros" thread. Great stuff, that. :D

Still cold and windy here, but not as bad as it was last week -- downright balmy as it reaches the freezing mark  We're supposed to get a little more snow next week, but we are still contending with the 6" from last week. LOL, the people who have tried to walk in it haven't even been able to reach the real ground -- they sink down to their ankles but pack the snow down with them :D Of course, I love the snow so I think it's great we have so much. I just don't like trudging around on icy sidewalks :( One of my friends told me yesterday that she's seen at least one person wipe out everyday  I slipped and fell once, but it was more embarrassing than painful :o Glad there was no one around to see me :o

Well, I guess that's enough rambling from me for one morning. I hope everyone has a good day! :) GOOOOOO ZHENYA & JARKKO!! :bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce: I don't think either match will be on Eurosport, but if they are, please give us the details! ;)

It will be another balmy day in Arizona. The weatherman expects another record breaking days today and tomorrow but will cool down a bit starting next week. Today's high is expected to reach 82F (27.7C). The unfortunate part of this balmy weather is Arizona needs the rain. The average rainfall in Jan is .73" but we got about .52" only. Just watched Kafelnikov-Bjorkman.
I was glad to see both players on a very good performance. The match was really interesting, and Zhenya played the better tennis I´ve seen from him in some time. He loves the indoors, and knows how to play there. And also, he knows Jonas very well (wink wink), and knew exactly what to do to extend his win streak to 10 againt the swede.
Anyway, Jonas deserves the credit after sneaking through the quali, and his serve is good, as his net play seems to be still there. He needs more to go back to a decent level, but this was a good first step towards it. :)
Kafel won 3 and 4, btw, mainly because he was returning the serve really well, and was superb from the back of the court while Jonas was at the net. Many passing shots and low shots to stretch Jonas all the time.
Good performance. Kafel is the best indoor man in the draw. No doubt.

Also, this match made me think about Davis Cup.
I have this feeling the swede captain will put Jonas to play the first day, so he is the one to face Guga. They dont play each other since 1997, where they had a win a piece. Guga won in Roland Garros, while Jonas won in straight in the US Open.
As Bjorkman is one of those good indoor players, and have one of those serves that hurt Guga´s returns a lot (a la HorseNeck), Im pretty sure that will be the first match.
Also, I have a feeling our captain will play Saretta against Enqvist. Flavio is young, and as a match against Thomas is almost lost already, he better put the younger there, and keep Sa fresh for the doubles. ;)
The doubles will be probably Guga-Sa against Bjorkman-Larsson. That will be the key. Jonas is a wonderful doubles player, but he will feel the absance of his partner Johansson. It will be an even match, I think.
On the third day, Enqvist playing Guga, and Sa or Saretta playing Larsson or Vinciguerra, depending on the circunstances.

Yucks, I smell trouble. :( It can go either way...

Well, I re-injured my ankle yesterday during sparring in my TKD class. I told my master that I don't think I can spar for a month or two and he agreed. He had ankle injury before and he know once its hurt, it takes long time to really heal and will easily re-injure it again.

Happy New Chinese Year Lee!!! Are you having any family celebration? What do you usually do on this day?

Sorry to hear about your ankles, Lee and Diss. You should be careful and let them heal completely. When I was young I played handball and used to dislocate my fingers repeatedly. Our coach was a very strict lady who would not let us skip many trainings so, as a result, I often feel pain in my fingers now (I should have been wiser and waited before they were completely OK). Happy newyear Lee! I go to college in Groningen, a city where a lot of Chinese people study as well and I share an appartment building with quite a lot of them, so I allready enjoyed some Chinese fireworks today :D

Didn't get a chance to watch a lot of tennis today, I saw a little part of Verkerk-Sanquinetti, but unfortunatly eurosport isn't broadcasting the match between Jarkko and Richard :(

Got my tv-guide for next week today and it seems like the Belgian channels I can watch here aren't showing any DC  I'll propably get to see some summary's though.

Hi Lee and xxFrancine!

I see you got a new avatar too Lee -- why Tommy? You miss him? TOo bad Francine, you don't get any DC coverage!! I can't believe it! Not important enough?? I'm hoping someone here gets some coverage so they can report to us!

A lot of people will be celebrating Chinese New Year here this weekend... the year of the Sheep [Goat or Ram?]. What do they say about this sign, Lee?

Gotta run -- have a couple of urgent work requests I have to negotiate!

No idea about Chinese horoscope since I don't have any article here. See if I can dig up anything this weekend so I can say something about the year of the Sheep(goat, ram, or whatever).

Layla, Vaiva and anybody else who has any knowledge about Russian music, do you know where I could possibly find the words for this song?

Unfortuantely, I can only link to the soundtrack but the song isn't one available to hear :( It's #10. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000SLW/qid=1044046834/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/002-4181797-5060014?v=glance&s=classical)

TH, blue beats all the colours for me. The salesman was really good and insightful at the store - we were analyzing advantages/disadvantages of different phones when he showed me my new toy and said: "Look at the screan. It's blue". My immediate reply was: "I take it" (Even forgot to ask about the price :o).

So when I was doing the colour test and had some expectations. Unfortunately, it did not go the way I wanted. Brown? Sheesh. Maybe  At least I was not the only one who got this no-colour :D

Kafelnikov and Nieminen Meet Again
Jarkko Nieminen ends Krajicek's run and Yevgeny Kafelnikov scores tenth win over Jonas Bjorkman.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov needed only two sets to defeat qualifier Jonas Bjorkman 6-3, 6-4 at the Breil ATP Milano Indoors Friday. It marked the fifth-seeded Russian's tenth consecutive win over the Swede, and he is now in his first semifinal since Moscow last season.

No. 8 seed Jarkko Nieminen came back from being a break down in each set to score a 7-6(7), 7-5 win over wild card Richard Krajicek. The 21-year-old Nieminen meets veteran Yevgeny Kafelnikov in Saturday's semifinals. The two last played in the second round of the Australian Open, and the Finn won that match in five sets.

Martin Verkerk advanced to his career-first semifinal on the ATP circuit by scoring a 7-5, 6-3 win over defending champion and local favorite Davide Sanguinetti. In his three matches in Milan, the 24-year-old Dutchman has hit as many as 58 aces.

Ivan Ljubicic ended French qualifier Julien Varlet's run in Milan by winning 6-4, 6-1. The Croatian and in the process the Croatian lost only two points on his serve against Varlet and hit a total of 18 aces in the match. Ljubicic also won his 100th match on the ATP circuit when he defeated Varlet.

What the Players Said
Kafelnikov: "I've had a little problem with my confidence lately. It's been a while since I won a few of matches in a row."

"The difference today is that I played more consistently on the big points."

"I think this is a good surface, you can play from the baseline or serve and volley."

Verkerk: "It was a good game. There was a little bit more tension out there than in the first two rounds. (Despite playing an Italian) I though the supporters were great. I served well even if weaker than the first two matches. I'm just happy with the way I played and fought today."

"I practice with (Richard) Krajicek, (Sjeng) Schalken, (Raemon) Sluiter and that's helped me a lot. I have a lot of respect for Krajicek, he's had a lot of injuries but he's one of the best players. I try to learn from him, and he wants to help me, which is great."

Sanguinetti: "He played well. I'm disappointed that I lost but I played OK and I have more confidence for the rest of the year than I had last week."

Ljubicic: "I like to play in Italy, I communicate well with the people here. Croatia is No. 1 for me, then it's Italy and then the rest of the world…The crowd likes my way of playing, they clap when I hit an ace and they want to see how fast the serve was."

On his semifinal opponent Verkerk: "We both serve very well and it's a fast court. He beat me once easily in Indianapolis last year and I beat him once easily in Tashkent."

Nieminen: On coming back from a break down in each set against Krajicek "I have won a few matches this year so I am confident even when I am down. When I lost my serve tonight I concentrated real hard to break him back. I returned great and that's the key against such an opponent."

On playing Kafelnikov who he beat at the Australian Open "He knows my game now and he's been playing really well here. It will be a tough match."

SATURDAY PREVIEW
Ivan Ljubicic, who is competing in Milan for the second time in his career, meets Dutchman Martin Verkerk in today's semifinals. The Croatian last reached the semifinals of an ATP event in Gstaad last year (l. to Gaston Gaudio), while Verkerk is among the last four of an ATP event for the first time.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov is playing in his first semifinal since Moscow last year (l. to Sjeng Schalken). The Russian lost in the Milan semifinals in 2001 (l. to Roger Federer) and 1996 (l. to Marc Rosset) and captured the title in 1995 (d. Boris Becker in the final).

Eight-seed Jarkko Nieminen made a name for himself by appearing out of nowhere to reach to ATP finals (Estoril and Mallorca) in 2002. He competes in Milan for the second time and encountered an opening round loss last year.

Well, it's called "At the Calvary Officer's Party" or something like that -- it's the #10 song in the track listing. That's why I called it a fruitless venture, because I don't think that's the real title of the song. It sounds like a folksong, too . . .

Being impulsive actually helps me, Lee. This is how I choose things that I HAVE to buy because there are so many things I WANT to buy. So if my heart is not beating like that big drum ;) when I see something, I know I should not be too greedy and leave that thing where it is because it is not something that I really need :)

My previous mobile fell down to the floor and went to pieces a few days ago. So that was a forced decision to buy a new one. My blueish toy :lick:

came back because this is to Layla and Hackie so sorry guys  I recieved a virus over msn and because you two are on my contact list you have it :fiery: fucking viruses.heres how to get rid but remember dont open:

A virus has been passed on to me by a contact. My address book in
turn has been infected. Since you are in our address book there is a chance
that you will find it in your computer too. I followed the instructions
below and eradicated the virus easily.
The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or Mcafee
anti-virus system. This virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the
system. Messenger and the address book send it automatically, whether or not
you send emails to your contacts.
Here's how to check for the virus and get rid of it:
1. Go to start, Find or Search option
2. In the file/folders option, type the name: jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure you search your C-drive and all the sub-folders and any
other drives you may have.
4. Click: "Find now"
5. The virus has a grey teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe-
DO NOT OPEN IT
6. Go to edit (on the menu bar) and choose SELECT ALL to highlight
the file without opening it.
7. Now go to the File (on the menu bar) and select DELETE. It will
then go the recycle bin.
8. Go to the Recycle Bin and delete it there as well.
IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, you must contact all the people in your
address
book, so they can eradicate it >in their own address books.
To do this:
1. Open a new email message
2. Click the icon of the address book next to the "To"
3. Highlight every name and add >to "BCC"
4. Copy this message, enter subject and paste to email, and send
Remember you have to do this very quickly.

sorry guys :( im off again

I was gonna stay away from the comp, cos my arm still hurting and using the mouse and keyboard makes it worse. But couldn't resist :D. Lee, I have no idea that Messi is your fave. Sorry that I've bad month him before :p. He's one of the most hated in Vancouver though :). And he was hurt and media said maybe he should take this opportunity to just start coaching the Rangers :p and skip the retirement part.

We have 3 going to all stars, Nazzy (Naslund), Bert (Bertuzzi) and Jovo (Jovanovski). But All-Star game is a big snore usually. Canucks aren't doing so well in 2003, only won 4 out of 11. I hope we'll get the momentum back after all-star. Also hope Nazzy will get the Rocket this year. He was runner up last year and the year before he was leading the lead most of the time until he broke his leg. He's very consistent in the scoring department now so i hope this will be his year.

Jdbgmgr.exe file hoax
Reported on: April 12, 2002
Last Updated on: November 21, 2002 10:24:24 AM

Symantec Security Response encourages you to ignore any messages regarding this hoax. It is harmless and is intended only to cause unwarranted concern.

Type: Hoax

This is a hoax that, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax, tries to persuade you to delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. The file that the hoax refers to, Jdbgmgr.exe, is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java. It may be installed when you install Windows.

NOTE: Recent version of this hoax take advantage of the recent outbreak of the W32.bugbear@mm worm, and the fact that the Jdbgmgr.exe file that is mentioned in the hoax has a bear icon. The actual W32.bugbear@mm worm file is an .exe file and does not have a bear icon.

The Windows Jdbgmgr.exe file has a teddy bear icon as described in the hoax:

CAUTION: Jdbgmgr.exe, like any file, can become infected by a virus. One virus in particular, W32.Efortune.31384@mm, targets this file. Norton AntiVirus has provided protection against W32.Efortune.31384@mm since May 11, 2001.

NOTE: If you have already deleted the Jdbgmgr.exe file, in most cases, you do not have to reinstall it. The following is quoted from the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Virus Hoax: Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) Is Not a Virus (Q322993):

"The Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) is only used by Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 developers.

If you follow the e-mail message instructions and delete this file, you do not have to recover it unless you use Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 to develop Java programs on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, or Windows 95."

If you do need to restore this file, follow the instructions in Virus Hoax: Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) Is Not a Virus (Q322993):

Hoax message
This hoax has appeared in several languages. Some are as follows:

English
I found the little bear in my machine because of that I am sending this message in order for you to find it in your machine. The procedure is very simple:

The objective of this e-mail is to warn all Hotmail users about a new virus that is spreading by MSN Messenger. The name of this virus is jdbgmgr.exe and it is sent automatically by the Messenger and by the address book too. The virus is not detected by McAfee or Norton and it stays quiet for 14 days before damaging the system.

The virus can be cleaned before it deletes the files from your system. In order to eliminate it, it is just necessary to do the following steps:
1. Go to Start, click "Search"
2.- In the "Files or Folders option" write the name jdbgmgr.exe
3.- Be sure that you are searching in the drive "C"
4.- Click "find now"
5.- If the virus is there (it has a little bear-like icon with the name of jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT FOR ANY REASON
6.- Right click and delete it (it will go to the Recycle bin)

If you follow the link I gave, you'll see that the name of the song is "At the Calvary Officers' Party" -- which gives me nothing, because its a plot point, not the name of a song. And like I said, I don't have the CD booklet cause its a burned CD so I don't know who really wrote the song or anything like that.

Hello TH! :) :wavey: How's your weekend so far? After such a long time without a TV, I finally have one! :D My boss lent me his spare TV... it's a bit old... you change channels with a DIAL :o, but it works great! Ah, I've missed the Simpsons and music video shows. Also, once the FO comes, I can actually follow the matches on TV! :D I'm sure it's gonna be a lot more exciting than online scoreboard! :p

Well, my weekend hasn't really started yet, but you have a TV now! :bounce::bounce::bounce: That's so great :) Watching the matches is definitely better than a scoreboard because you can tell what's going on, not just having to stare at numbers on a board and wonder.

Yeah... I can sit in front of the TV with my hands in front of my eyes, instead of studiously trying to avoid refreshing the scoreboard because I'm nervous. LOL

It's been such a long time since I've had a TV... I'm not even sure how much tennis Australian free-to-air TV covers.... sports coverage here tends to be BADLY hogged by Aussie Rules footy, cricket, motor racing  and golf . In fact, cricket is on the TV at the moment.

Hi DP, Hackie, Vera and Lee!

So quiet on the boards lately... eery... :p

So no more luck on the Russian song??

Who do you cheer for in the semis -- Jarkko? I will! [I think Jarkko's a better choice than poor Micha these days... has Jarkko won any tourneys?]

Who are in the other semis???

Vera, how are you doing??

Anyone seen Rebecca? Her PM box is FULL!!! Pls tell her!!

TH? Still here? :o I'm sorry, I haven't abandoned you! :( I was actually breaking from usual practice and reading both threads simultaneously today.

I have to get off for lunch anyway... so catch up with you (and everyone else) later! :)

:wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :)

Vera, sorry to hear your arm still hurts. Give it more rest.

No need to sorry! I never told anyone here Mark is my fav and I understand why Canucks fans don't like him. If I can't stand ppl criticizing my fav, I don't think I can stay in ATPworld and chat with you guys here since most ppl here dislike Pistol Pete. :D :D

Iggy said he felt like crushing a party in all-star game. Honestly, he is not playing that well this year (although much better after his return from injury).
