I forgot that Mrs. B told me tea is good for your digestion, so I've foresaken my vow to drink water everyday in order to not become a complete icicle :) It's bad for your kidneys, but that's okay, it all balances out :D

What's your favorite kind of tea? My Russian prof told us that one of their home remedies is to drink tea with raspberry. I adore Twinings of England myself :D and had some blackcurrant this morning, so hopefully I won't fall ill amongst all the rest of this . . . just finishing some Prince of Wales, which is my favorite kind :lick:

Oh they're not getting to me, it's just amusing that's all. I do miss the days when GM was a vaguely intelligent place though.

My favorite tea at the moment is Twinings coconut or vanilla. They have a strong aroma and smell divine. :) There's a lovely shop here that has many different kinds of teas, my favorite of those is After Eight. It's unbelievably good. I love Prince of Wales as well, it's better than Earl Gray. But at the moment I'm not drinking a superb herbal tea. It's a bit too late in the day to be drinking black tea. ;) It might keep me up at night.

TH, I'm surprised that you never have any Tetley tea. They have all kinds of tea bags but Tetley is not my favorite brand of tea. I like Stash's peppermint tea. When I was in Calgary, I can buy very good Chinese tea from stores specialize in Chinese tea, unfortunately, not in Phoenix. I probably need to load up when I visit my family this summer.

I http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/heart.gif Twinings. There are a few different brands sold here that I've tried, but Twinings is the best :) I agree, Prince of Wales is better than Earl Grey or Lady Grey (bleh, not my fav, but better than the breakfast teas). The only kinds I've ever been able to find, though, are those that I've already mentioned -- and sometimes orange :confused:

I started drinking tea by drinking herbal tea, but it was on my thing at all. The caffeine doesn't bother me, and the tea really relaxes me. I don't like anything with too strong a taste to it. I like the black stuff :D

Enough whining from me. Here's some good news from Mr. Nice Guy.

Todd Martin Scores Another Title - 'Daddy'
Wife Amy gives birth to Jackson Dale Martin.

American veteran Todd Martin is the proud new father of a baby boy. His wife Amy gave birth to Jackson Dale Martin on January 21. Jack, as they plan to call him, weighed in at a healthy 8 lbs., 13 oz., and is the couple's first child.

Martin, who skipped the Australian Open due to his wife's pregnancy, resides in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, home of the ATP's International Headquarters.

Worse, it's like he's the only player on the tour. :rolleyes: I'm so sick of it! And if I hear him abuse the umpire one more time, I'm gonna write to the ATP officials and ask them to ban him from playing until he grows up and reaches at least the mental age of 9. :mad:

Hey, congrats to Todd and his wife! :)

It is admirable that he skipped AO to be there for his wife. :)

My huge fave in biathlon, the lovely Raphael Poiree, is also expecting a child on Sunday. And it hurt him so much that he can't be with his wife that he was apparently in tears. So he decided to skip today's race, even though it's very important to him, so he could go home for the birth of their first child. :) And that from a guy who has the most professional attitude of them all. Nothing fazes him, he's an ultra-perfectionist and is absolutely determined to end the year as number one. But his lovely wife (also a brilliant biathlete) comes first. :D I'm so happy for them, because they're one of my favorite couples ever.

Aww, I had to share this with you guys. It's from my Michel fan club, where I and this other person have been discussing some of Michel's problems:

"Hi tennishack thank you for your concise and constructive reply. I
thought that you were a 'head' doctor, you have that way with people! (i.e. pleasant soothing manner!)The sooner your mate gets back to Switzerland and runs your ideas past Michel the better LOL!"

S/he suggested that I tell my friend (Mrs. B) to tell Michel to employ me as his counselor! :o

But I was quite flattered that someone thought I'd be a good counselor :) So the day is looking up :)

Argh, I'm finished for the day. Now I can finally go to bed, cause I'm very sleepy and hungry.

As the AO is drawing to a close, I decided that of all the matches I've seen (there weren't that many), my favorite one is between Novak and Olivier Rochus. Olivier is such a character, he's climbing towards the top of the list of my faves. :) He's a real showman but in the best possible sense and the crowd responds to him. I've seen that a few times now. He just keeps smiling. He smiles so often during a match, it's really endearing. He beams when he hits a great shot and he smiles when he misses. You can just tell he's enjoying himself out there. Besides, he's such a fighter. You can never count him out.

Parts of the match were not that interesting but the way he fought back from being 2 sets to love down (and incidently they were both tie-break sets) was a joy to watch. He was hitting some outrageous shots and his return of serve is excellent. Seriously, he has beautiful strokes and plays a clever game. He's also quite fast and his bh is not bad at all. I have no idea why he doesn't have more success on the tour. It's too bad he began to cramp in the 5th set which he proceeded to lose, but he gave it his all.

ALLEZ OLIVIER!

Oh Layla, thank you *hug* I have a lot of respect for you, and I like reading your posts, so that really means a lot to me. :)

Just ducking in for a quick :wavey:, I have been so bad with respect to work these couple of weeks :o I'm kinda glad there aren't any more matches in AO that I really want to follow.

I studiously avoided going to GM for like 2 days after Hewitt lost, but, to my surprise, now I'm finding the plethora of Roddick threads kinda amusing to read... some of Becca's snappy comebacks have made me chuckle.

For a good while in 99-2000, I drank a fair bit of English Breakfast and Irish Breakfast tea... I rather like tea (definitely more so than coffee) but I go through phases...for the longest time I drank heaps of Coke, then heaps of orange Fanta... now at the moment I'm in a cordial / fruit juice phase.

Speaking of 'gush therapy', :o I was speaking to a poster in the camel thread yesterday (her nickname is 'Legolas' LOL, and I think she posts in the Belgian and Federer forums too) and we've both decided that we are going to learn Elvish! :D :D We're both hoping to get sufficiently fluent by the end of the year that we can follow the Elvish bits in the third movie without needing to look at the subtitles. If we also get far enough, we'll start an Elvish conversation thread. :p We've found and exchanged some internet resources on Elvish and we will get started soon.

Of course, that my *gush* :hearts: *gush* side.... but my rational side doesn't underestimate the difficulty of our plans. What I've looked at looks fairly complex, and I don't have a natural gift for languages. Talk about overachieving :rolleyes: :p, Tolkien actually not only just created an 'Elvish' language, but there are a few dialects. There's Quenya, which is the ancient High-Elven language, Sindarin, which is the main 'living' Elven tongue, Telerin, the language of the Sea-Elves... etc. etc..
I think I'll tackle Quenya first, since there is actually already an online course for it (LOL)... but I hope to also learn Sindarin! :D

Anyway, enough gushing... back to work... :p

In Calgary, there is a Japanese restaurant make it's own grean tea, black sesame and whte sesame ice cream and there are delicious.

For Chinese tea, it's also like wine, it depends on the food. If there are lots of meat or fatty food (you can ignore this Layla :D :D), the best is dark red tea like Puerh but it's very difficult to find good Puerh tea outside China. For light food such as fish and veggie, green tea like Jasmine. After dinner, the best is to have kung fu tea, i.e. Ti Kwon Yin.

Yes, I meant the Sorbonne (thought it had two e's :o), and a junior-year study abroad program. Of course I want to study abroad, but my major is too demanding :( I'd go to Russia if I could :hearts:, but the program that my school belongs to is a year-long program and I can't take two semesters away from my coursework and still graduate on time. The Russian university system is set up in such a way that they discourage people from taking only a few semesters' worth of classes -- they want you to enter and go on their five-year tract. My viable alternative at this point is to try for graduate school in England, but I don't know if my grades will be good enough :o

I know a lot of people who will be scattered all over the world next year, so I'll just have to live vicariously through them until I can travel :)

I have been naughty again... instead of working, I've downloaded the Quenya lessons and started reading them. :o

I also found a small list of useful words and phrases from the Stockholm Tolkien Society webpage, and there are some handy words for cheering during matches:

Hooray! - Alayambo!
Praise! - A laita!
Cheers! - Almien! Lit. to good fortune

These people also have quite a sense of humor. :p They have included the following phrases:

Your hair shines like gold.
Findelya cala ve laure.

Come outside with me and look at the constellations.
A hótule asinye i meneltannar tirien.

Mano mardenna?

SCHUETTLER REACHES FINAL

Germany's Rainer Schuettler beat a jaded Andy Roddick in four sets to reach the Australian Open final.

The 31st seed triumphed 7-5 2-6 6-3 6-3 in Melbourne to set up Sunday's showpiece against hot favourite Andre Agassi.

Roddick looked tired early on and that was no great surprise given that his five-hour epic against Younes El Aynaoui had ended less than 48 hours ago.

The players traded early breaks of serve but as the set progressed it was the German looking the better player, understandably working his opponent around the court as much as possible.

He gained the key break with Roddick serving at 5-6 to take the opening set.

However, Schuettler then made a nightmare start to the second set falling 4-0 down.

It was too much to claw back and Roddick held on to take the set 6-2 and level the match.

Roddick was receiving treatment at the breaks, strapping up his wrist, but it certainly hadn't seemed to affect him too much in that second set.

But the momentum swung back in Schuettler's favour in the third.

After a tight opening, the German grabbed a key break in the sixth game which was to prove decisive and he took the set 6-3.

With the roof across on the Rod Laver Arena, it was looking grim for the heavily-sweating American when he was broken in the opening game of the fourth set.

Relying too heavily on his serve, Roddick was left facing a big uphill battle.

Schuettler looked on the verge of victory when he forced break points at 2-0, but the A-Rod's huge serve again got him out of trouble and kept him in the match.

Serve continued to dominate to 5-3 at which point Schuettler was just one game away from the final.

And he immediately stepped up to take his chance, drilling a backhand pass down the line on his first match point to reach his first-ever Grand Slam final.

Schuettler is the first German to reach the Australian Open final since Boris Becker in 1996 when he captured the title at Melbourne Park.

Afterwards Schuettler, whose rates his most memorable tennis moment as watching Becker win Wimbledon in 1985, readily admitted that he would be up against it when he takes the court against Agassi in Sunday`s final.

The pair have met before only once with the American winning 6-1 6-4 on Munich clay in 1998.

"He's kicked my ass already but its good for me to be in the final and we'll see what will happen," he said.

However, the German, who also conceded that he had not expected to even get as far as the semi-final when he arrived in Melbourne a fortnight ago, is still hoping to pull off an upset.

"It was a dream and sometimes you have a chance to realise a dream," he said.

"I`m looking forward to playing in the final. You have to have dreams otherwise it`s boring and I have another dream - to win it."

A look at the stats showed Roddick was his own worst enemy with 40 unforced errors to just 19 for Schuettler.

:eek: shocking article about Kim :eek:

Clijsters may quit in three years, father saysr
2003-01-24 16:07:45 GMT (Reuters)

BRUSSELS, Jan 24 (Reuters) - The hectic schedule of women's tennis could prompt Belgian number one Kim Clijsters to hang up her racket aged just 22, her father was reported as saying on Friday.

"Now she's coming to Belgium to play in Antwerp but then she has to pack her bags and hurry to America. Scottsdale, Indian Wells - it doesn't stop," Leo Clijsters told Belgian media.

"In three years' time she will very likely call it quits," he said. Kim, who earned $1.8 million last year, would be financially independent by then, he added.

The 19-year-old, who lost to Serena Williams in Thursday's Australian Open semi-final, made her professional debut in 1997 and is the girlfriend of men's world number one Lleyton Hewitt.

Leo, who acts as Clijsters' manager, said his daughter was under pressure in the sporting limelight. "She doesn't need all this attention," he said.
~~~~~~
Well i'd be shocked if Kimmy retired in just 3 years. i think she has the desire and passion to continue to play for the rest of the decade. i understand if she's becoming tired of playing so many tournaments all over the world, but she really doesn't HAVE to play so many events. maybe she should learn from her boyfriend Lleyton and decide to play less tourneys this year to get more rest. Clijsters played 26 events in 2002 and i think that amount should be lowered this year for her personal health.
The 19-year-old, who lost to Serena Williams in Thursday's Australian Open semi-final, made her professional debut in 1997 and is the girlfriend of men's world number one Lleyton Hewitt.
Leo, who acts as Clijsters' manager, said his daughter was under pressure in the sporting limelight. "She doesn't need all this attention," he said.
Well i'd be shocked if Kimmy retired in just 3 years. i think she has the desire and passion to continue to play for the rest of the decade. i understand if she's becoming tired of playing so many tournaments all over the world, but she really doesn't HAVE to play so many events. maybe she should learn from her boyfriend Lleyton and decide to play less tourneys this year to get more rest. Clijsters played 26 events in 2002 and i think that amount should be lowered this year for her personal health.
I hope she will not be another Martina Hingis, burned out at 22.
Anyway, I'm really happy that Rainer won. Now I can watch the final and can feel excited to root for someone. If it was Ahole and Rdick, I'll be forced to cheer for Ahole and feel nausea while doing that. Now Rainer is much better.
Last night, at exactly the same time the match was playing, ESPN showed the AA matched instead. :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:
Basically, what Layla said in that thread is more as less what you said here. Unfortunately, I doubt Andy the poster has the chance to read it. I almost broke my resolve early this morning to answer that thread cause after Layla post, Chrisie posted that something like Andy lost already why rub salt in and this really p*** me. Up to that point, she still don't know what this issue is. I think she only see who the poster is and not even bordered to read what a person said. Anyway, good that I choose to sleep instead of wasting energy to write something.
The only one I missed is Layla's last post. But anyway, what a laugh. And Andy's here reading what we say about him, that's too funny. I hope he read my post to him. This is what I don't like about those so called Roddick fans cos they just think everyone a non-fan said is a irrational attack. I've been so patient to explain every thoughts with logic and they still don't get it. I read that other post from Bagel, maybe he's right, just ignore the stupid ppl out there cos they are not worth it. BTW, Bagel is one smart Roddick fan who can tune out whatever other said. He only blow up once with that very long post of his complaining the other's very long post. lol.
But seriously, pls remind me again to not get into those fight in GM. It's too ridiculous. And lol @ Andy to declare war anyway. I wonder what he thinks about the US against Iraq. Get a grip!
Sorry for going on and on about this. :o
BTW, superbowl is coming. They mentioned there's a canadian performer in this superbowl, I wonder who's that.
I don't watch NFL, but I like to watch Superbowl for the commercial. Too bad the canadian broadcast actually own those spots and sell them to other advertisers different from the States so we never get to watch those great overbudget celebrities-flooded commercial. But I just watched the Pepsi one on a business network with Osbourne, it costed 2.1 million.
I think we need each other to support us not get into GM fights. I just very close to post something about Chrisie in the count down thread. That girl I think has a very low self-esteem.
I have been going on and on about this too. Talking about this here help to let off some steam though.
Her again. Well, she's good but I was hoping for a surprise. The way they said on TV last nite, I wouldn't thought it's her again. But Shania is great, I love her, but I don't like country music.
Her song is not exactly very country. I am not a big fan of her but I like her. I saw her interview on VH1 and during the whole interview, she wore a cap with maple leaf on it and very down to earth.
NO WAY would Kimmy retire at 22! She's just starting to hit her stride now!!
Leo Clijsters is starting to piss me off :rolleyes: First blabbing that Kim would become an Australian, now this. If I were Kim, I'd make him stop babbling to the media.
I agree with our Leo :) Kimmy doesn't have to play so many tournaments, and I don't think she will in coming years. There are the 4 Grand Slams and the 10 Tier I events, plus her faves, the Antwerp and Luxembourg events (I think she's outgrown Luxembourg and will be surprised if she plays there again).
As she climbs in the rankings by peaking at the right events, I think we'll see Kim pare down her schedule.
Ya're right, I like her bcos she's down to earth. Maybe she's not very country but country enough for me. I can't stay country music. But my nephew likes her. He was singing her song at 2 years old, that "aw aw oh" song whatever that's call. That was his favorite at that time and the one that he managed to sing without really fluent in speaking :D. I like that song too bcos of my nephew.
Schuettler questions Roddick injury
2003-01-24 13:45:17 GMT (Reuters)
By Alastair Himmer
MELBOURNE, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Rainer Schuettler questioned whether Andy Roddick had really been injured during their Australian Open semi-final on Friday, won 7-5 2-6 6-3 6-3 by the German.
Roddick jarred his right wrist during his epic five-hour victory over Younes El Aynaoui two days ago and against Schuettler called the trainer several times to have the wrist re-taped.
But the number 31 seed left no doubt that he thought Roddick was indulging in a spot of kidology.
"If you serve...215 kph or whatever, then I don't know if the wrist really hurts. He did this in a couple of matches to get treatment when he was a set down," said Schuettler.
ATP Tour trainer Bill Norris said afterwards that Roddick had tendinitis after taking a tumble in his marathon match against El Aynaoui.
"I think the other night in the last match, when he fell that time, it just triggered a reaction," said Norris.
Schuettler ran his ninth-seeded opponent ragged at Rod Laver Arena, firing a backhand pass down the line on his first match point to become only the second German finalist in Melbourne.
"I didn't care if he was hurt or not because I tried to play my tennis. He knows better. For me, I won and that's what counts," he said.
To emulate Boris Becker, who won the title in 1991 and 1996, Schuettler must get past another American, three-times champion Andre Agassi, who crushed Wayne Ferreira 6-2 6-2 6-3 on Thursday.
Schuettler, who was inspired to take up tennis after watching Becker win Wimbledon in 1985, had previously failed to get past the fourth round in 17 grand slam appearances.
I really hope Rainer's words were taken out of context.
