I took the liberty to translate some words about the JCF's match posted on one Russian board. I'm in a hurry but thought this maybe interesting for you:

"Ancic was unable to fight with JCF on equal terms, although, at times he was playing at quite a decent level. Now he needs to improve on his consistency which is a prerequisite for victory at major tournaments. Ferrero approached this match very seriously and did everything to get more recovery time after his match against Santoro. He looked very determined and, at times, even somehow angry, IMO. Moreover, I had the feeling he is on the brink of a breakdown  when he can explode at every moment. For instance, at the end of set 3 (when the result was more than obvious) his serve was called out. He got very angry and swore  and received a warning from the umpire. He did not cool down and after the game continued arguing with the umpire - never seen him acting like that in similar situations. Quite possible that he'll need some nerves of steel in his next-round match against an experienced veteran Ferreira who can pull a big surprise."

I think that says it all, right there. If he was still recuperating from the Santoro match, he was probably a bit irritable. Hopefully he is feeling better now, and will continue to bring it in the tournament.

I dont think he's headed for a meltdown -- and I also don't think he was that pissy at the end of his match ;)

Hi everyone! :wavey:

I can't believe Sebastien won!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I'm in heaven! :D That was a very weird match. Seb played terribly in the first two sets and had an attack of the UEs from outer space. And then suddenly at the beginning of the 3rd set, he walk on the court a completely different player. There was nothing to indicate this, it was shocking. Suddenly he was his old self again, hitting his beautiful trademark shots. :) It was an amazing match from then on, because Felix was inspired and played great tennis.

If Seb plays like he did in the last 3 sets (or at least 3rd and 4th, I didn't see the last one as Eurosport ran out of coverage time), he can beat Agassi. :D But if he plays like he did at the beginning, we're doomed.

Nothing would give me more pleasure then to see Juanqui and Seb battling it out in the semis. Please, please, please make that happen.

As for Lindsay, I'm too sad to speak.

Juanqui headed for a breakdown... LMAO! He was never more animated and inspired. I don't think it's so unusual if a player curses when he's unhappy about a ball. Is that really a violation? Maybe people are making a big deal out of it because he doesn't do it often, but he does argue about calls occasionally. What's so terrible about that? There are a few players who have a habit of arguing about every single call they disagree with, and they disagree with most of them. :p I don't think it's distracting Juanqui from his game. It really doesn't mean anything.

There's an article in today's Herald Sun (Melbourne newspaper) about Juanqui

I can upset Hewitt and Agassi, says Ferrero
By PAUL MALONE
20jan03

SPANISH baseliner Juan Carlos Ferrero yesterday stepped into the Australian Open spotlight, saying he could gatecrash the final between Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi.

Ferrero, runner-up at the Masters Cup to Hewitt, made a grab for prominence in championship calculations as the top three men's seeds left in the Open made short work of their weekend commitments.
The Spanish Davis Cup mainstay reached his first grand slam quarter-final at a venue other than Roland Garros with a classy 6-0 6-3 6-2 win over Croatian teenager Mario Ancic.

"I think there is no favourite right now," said Ferrero, who took anti-inflammatory tablets to help him nurse a thigh injury.

"I know that Agassi and Hewitt won very easy (in their past two rounds). I won very easy today.

Agassi had to play only 48 minutes when Argentinian Guillermo Coria retired with a blistered foot when the American was leading 6-1 3-1.

Coria became an Australian Open record-equalling eighth man to retire during a match this year.

The statistic adds fresh urgency to talks this week between officials from the four grand slam countries over future Australian Opens and a player push for a longer tennis off-season.

Agassi is pressing Hewitt for favouritism with TAB Sportsbet at $2.80 behind Hewitt ($2.50) in markets adjusted after the withdrawal of Safin on Saturday.

Ferrero, a Spanish Davis Cup final winner over Hewitt in 2000, is fourth favourite at $9 behind Switzerland's Roger Federer ($8).

"He (Ferrero) has established himself as a force to be dealt with on any surface," Agassi said.

Agassi's 18th straight win at Melbourne Park took him to within two wins of an Australia Day final against Hewitt.

"It's always a dynamic atmosphere when you play an Australian here. I've had plenty of tennis to be ready," Agassi said.

The American was as plainly disappointed as the deprived spectators when Coria, ranked No. 45 in the world, conceded a game after he had called a trainer to treat and bandage his right foot at 1-2 in the second set.

"It's not ideal for the fans and the fact you are playing such a prestigious tournament," Agassi said.

The triple Australian Open champion had nothing to do with a press conference line of questioning that players are giving up to injury too easily in matches.

"Blisters are not very comfortable to say the least," Agassi said.

Ferrero's quarter-final opponent is Wayne Ferreira, after the 31-year-old South African took a 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over Armenian Sargis Sargsian.

Ferrero said Hewitt had stepped up his form ahead of his fourth-round clash today against Moroccan Younes El Aynaoui.

"He's playing really good," Ferrero said of Hewitt.

Coria's retirement came after five men failed to finish the first round - Romanian Andrei Pavel, American Justin Gimelstob and Frenchmen Gregory Carraz and Jerome Golmard.

In the second round, Australian Wayne Arthurs and Austrian Julian Knowle also failed to go the distance, with Belgian Xavier Malisse and Coria following in the next two rounds.

In addition, third seed Marat Safin (wrist) handed a walkover to his third-round opponent Rainer Schuettler.

But it is not a problem confined to the Australian Open. An unprecedented nine men failed to complete matches at the US Open last year.

Thx zosse for the translation. I don't know about a meltdown. But to be honest, I was wondering about that too since last nite when I saw that one point on tv. He's unusually agitated in such a lopsided match. Seems like he wanted very much to get it over with. Hopefully, it wasn't the injury that giving him trouble and he's not telling. But I do prefer his old calm and cool self. Did Layla or anyone saw the match and can give us a take on what might have happened? Anyway, just hope it's bcos his desire to win is burning inside so he's just unusually more fire up. He need to be cool to play Wayne, I think Wayne is also someone who can get on one's nerve...

So you got to see Seb's match on TV? *jealous*. He drove me crazy in the first 2 sets. But I'm glad that he didn't lose it right there and just came all the way back :D . Just by looking at the stat, 44% serve overall and more UE than Winners, I thought he didn't play that well. But seems that he's a different player after losing the first 2. And I'm glad that you think he can beat Agassi with the form he's playing. Now I'm not as worry than. So thanks for telling us your take. :)

Ferrero is 8-1 on hard courts this year, having reached the Sydney final last week.

When Marat plays solid he can beat anybody very easily, but when he's not feeling so good, he can lose to anybody, too. Rainer has been playing well this year, and he's got patience to make the rallies.

None taken, I was kidding :) Rainer still has a long way to go until he takes this thing home, and that includes Potatoman, Federer or Nalbandian, Youzhny, Agassihole, and Ferrero.

It wasn't until the quarters that I decided Thomas was going to win simply because of destiny, so I'm holding out judgment just yet. I of course want Juan Carlos or Mikhail or Roger or David or SOMEONE besides Agassihole and Potatoman to bring this home, but this isn't the most unpredictable Slam without reason ;)

Whilst I was visiting the Lleyki thread to see Dr. Marly put THE COSTA SLAM 2 in his place, I noticed the way you guys cheer, and I don't like it -- hence, I never visit your thread. Any chance we get Rogi??? [I doubt it but...] ;)

Go Eleni and Misha!!

Scott -- I don't give a damn who you cheer for, but you are very mean-spirited in your cheering. Whilst I was visiting the Lleyki thread to see Dr. Marly put THE COSTA SLAM 2 in his place, I noticed the way you guys cheer, and I don't like it -- hence, I never visit your thread. So if you're going to be like that while watching matches, don't bring it in here. Just FYI, YOUR behavior is what made people angry during the Santoro match.

TH dear, I have never seen anyone use worse language than you did during the Santoro match, and you had no problem with me then. I really don't care if you can get your minions against me. You know the only reason you're mad at me now is because I don't like the people you do and I'm cheering for my faves. You run so unbelievably hot and cold. This isn't your forum, you can't kick me out. I'll cheer for who I want, when I want. The only reason I'm leaving is because the company here has become less than desirable.

Please Scotso, don't turn this thread into WTAworld GMs :(

You can cheer for who you want when you want. But don't get offended if others put you on ignore list. They can ignore who they want and when they want.
