You know, I've always loved listening to people's accents... I guess that's why I gravitate towards the Spanish guys and that certain Swiss-German/S African guy... love the accents... and esp. that Aussie drawl on Pat!! His is the BEST Aussie accent ever!

That sounds like a great idea! I am indeed seriously thinking about going to TMS Montreal this year. Though it will depends on my job situation. You did check out the hotel price, right? Are they expensive? I missed Montreal :( . Though, there's no hockey in August, but who cares when you can see Juanqui, Rogi, Carlos and Alex:D .

:) I forgot to mention that the first accent I liked was any Brit accent! I still fall for Brit guys... once in London w friends, we were "rating" guys in Chelsea or somewhere like that. I rated a guy "9" and he obviously heard me and answered "not a 10, luv?" We were laughing so hard everyone was staring at the crazy foreigners!! So much fun you can have away from home!!

Hotels in Montreal? I've only stayed at one a few years ago -- I think the prices are highish. I have to check them out. We'll just hang in the players hotel!

Yeah not bad for a Brit eh? No I don't know where he lived and I like any SEXY Brit accent, whether w class or uppercrust or in-between!! Alan Rickman's pretty sexy-sounding... Well, you bet, I can fall in love with a guy just bcos of his accent :o. English and Aussie accent is just lovely.

Hang in the players hotel? you mean sit there to watch the players come and go, then camp outside, right? Cos I don't think they stay where I can afford anyway. I lived in a motel for a month when I first got there. But that was very close to the airport, and hence, very inconvenient. I went to TMS Montreal once, is it still held in that Jerry sth? Park? Anyway, it's 8 months away and I'll be trying to figure out a way to go. I think Becca is going to, remembered she said sth like she'll go even if she has to camp in a ditch or sth like that (ooooops, I hope I remember it right). Anyway, should be some hostel around town too.

Hey girls :wavey:

I see the boy talk has returned ;) Afraid I can't join in as I don't follow hockey, but I can comment on accents. I love them :hearts: I, too, fell in love with the British accent first. I think a lot of we North Americans look to England because of our intertwined histories.

I also love the Russian accent, as well as the Swiss-German one ;) I've never heard Jarkko speak but I bet it would be interesting. Finland is so close to Russia :D Perhaps the most attractive thing is when a guy speaks confidently in his own language.

Oops, here I go again :o

Oh yes, the players stay in a pretty plush hotel and its usually not open to the public during that week (well, it's open to the people who can pay for it, but players and their entourages have first choice).

Here's why ATPWorld crashed the last time:

http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51313

Live Score Threads

Here's the deal with the scoring threads. You may have noticed Amanda's been closing them, that's because they're crashing the server. When people went to ATPworld.com to post scores there afterward, that server crashed too.

Even with our upgrade, the server cannot cope with hundreds of people refreshing a score thread every few seconds. Vbulletin is a very feature rich software package and is not intended to handle that kind of load, no matter how powerful the hardware.

When there's no scoring threads the server is able to handle the traffic on this site without breaking a sweat. And we'd like to be able to keep the site running that way, rather than have it shut down all the time during tennis tournaments because of being overworked. Then not only is there no score threads, there's no discussion of any kind.

Anyway, Amanda and I are working on finding a solution to this problem so that we can provide you with an alternative to the scoring threads posted on the message board.

Until that solution is in place though, we're going to have to continue to close live scoring threads and ask that you go to the chat rooms instead. We realize not everyone can load the chat, which is why we're working on a better solution, but until then it's our only alternative. What we're planning is a web page split in two frames, with the bottom frame being a simple html page for the live scores that can be loaded and refreshed by anyone with almost any browsing software, and the top frame will have the chat window for cheering and commentary etc. That way even if you can't load the chat, you can still view the bottom frame with the scores. Volunteers will be given access to update the bottom frame with the scores.

Having both sites down for hours like today doesn't do anybody any good. We hope you can understand and appreciate the situation and we're doing our best to resolve it in a way that works for everyone

Thanks for your co-operation,
Poe.

Hi everyone! :wavey:

:sad::sad::sad:

I'm sick of bringing you bad news all the time, but my computer seems to be acting up again. This time it has nothing to do with interner, so have no fear, it's not the same problem. It just died on me that's all. I noticed a funky smell coming from the computer and then it switched itself off. Thankfully when I switched it back on an hour later it was working just fine and still is, but I'm worried. I'm not 100% sure I didn't accidently pushed the off button while leaning down to smell it but I seriously doubt that and there was definitely a smell, which disappeared very soon after the computer was switched off.

Has that happened to anyone before? I need some advice. I think I should probably take it to the shop and have it checked just in case something didn't burn or was damaged. I'll call them in the morning and see what they recommend (the warranty still stands). Everything appears to be working, even the dvd-player and the cd-burner, so I'm really confused. What do you recommend I should do? Should I just continue using it and see if it does it again, or do you think that's too risky?

Dear computer, please, please, please don't let me down for my birthday and AO. I'm begging you!

Seriously, I'm getting so tired of computer-related problems. I think I've had a few-years' worth in a few months. Argh!

Ok, enough ranting. I was hugely relieved that I could switch it back on, because a week's worth of horoscopes (36, for next week) that I've already written were on it and I haven't saved them on a floppy yet. I don't know what I would have done if I had lost them. *phew*

Anyway, if I don't come here tomorrow, it's because my computer is in the shop.

Sorry I can't stay and chat either. I really do need to get a good night's sleep, not like the last few nights, when I stayed up way too long (practicing for AO no doubt ;) ). I just wanted to let you know what's going on in Laylaland.

Aha, so it was the wtaworlders' scoring threads that did the damage! I remember those. It's awful. They've always been a huge problem. Here, the scores are posted maybe twice during the set, and there almost every point is posted and followed by the others. No wonder the site can't handle it. I think the WTA section of this board should be closed when wtaworld crashes during live events. :p

Wish you all a beautiful day!

This is goodnight from me and may you all have the sweetest dreams! :wavey:

GOOD NEWS! MY TWO TENNIS TAPES CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY! :bounce: :bounce:

this is terrific. tonite will be a marathon of Lindsay and Juanqui matches. the Wimby '99 final followed by the thrilling Roma '01 final. better get the popcorn ready. :D not to mention Juanqui and Lindsay are both playing today in Sydney. vamos!!! good luck!!!! :bounce:

anyway, i started watching the Lindsay/Steffi match from Wimbledon and i heard something interesting from Chris Evert. she said that Lindsay was working with Rick Leach prior to Wimby '99 and he helped her to improve her grass court game and to feel more confident on that surface. before she got together with Leach she didn't like to play on grass at all. so i think that is good news that Lindsay is familiar with Rick and he has already worked with and in the past; although it is still awkard since he is the future brother-in-law.

yes, but Jennifer has been playing horribly ever since the US Open so this is no surprise to me. in the fall season last year Cappy only won a total of 3 matches! and now she has started off 2003 on a bad note also. with the Williams Sisters at their prime, Lindsay Davenport back and playing well, and Kim Clijsters rejuvinated, i think Jennifer will have a real struggle defending her AO title. not to mention that she is definitely overweight (have you seenthe pics of her?) she needs to be in better shape to win this grand slam for a third straight year... but then again i guess you can never count out the Capster in the big events.

nice article on Richard Gasquet:

Kooyong's cool customer

Teen wild card surrounded by greats at Aussie tuneup

MELBOURNE, Jan 7 (Reuters) -- Sixteen-year-old Richard Gasquet is feeling a little cowed by the company he is keeping in Melbourne. But according to one big-hitting Aussie hero, the French teenager should be feeling right at home.

The world's No. 1 junior, Gasquet impressed Adelaide tournament chief Colin Stubs so much last week that Stubs awarded him a wild card into this week's Kooyong Classic, the traditional warm-up for the Australian Open.

At Kooyong he will be rubbing shoulders -- and trading groundstrokes -- with some of the world's elite, including Andre Agassi and Mark Philippoussis.

"It is a little bit scary," Gasquet admitted on Tuesday.

But home favorite Philippoussis, hoping to put yet another knee injury behind him, gave the French teenager an immediate vote of confidence.

"I haven't seen much of Richard," Philippoussis said as Gasquet smiled shyly, "but from what I have seen, I don't think he has very much to be scared of."

Gasquet hit the international tennis scene in 2002, winning the junior singles titles at both the U.S. and French Opens. He started the year by reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open Junior Championships.

At the senior level, he became the youngest player to win an ATP Masters Series match when he beat Argentina's Franco Squillari as a qualifier in the first round at Monte Carlo in April before losing to Marat Safin.

At May's French Open, he took the first set from eventual champion Albert Costa, and at last week's Australian men's hardcourt championships in Adelaide, he beat countryman and Sydney Olympics bronze medalist Arnaud Di Pasquale in the opening round.

And a good patriarchal gut at that. A carbohydrated Italian-American linguini with clam sauce gut. A good Aussie-style belly, of the several schooners after a jog along the beach variety.

At the other end pranced the princess Jennifer. Ponytail under white hat. Green halter top. Tight black shorts. Red tennis shoes. Stocky legs. Gu... Sorry, a gentleman shouldn't say such a thing. We'll call it a protruding midriff, of the strap-on plum pudding variety.

The immediate reaction was alarm. This is, after all, the year of the Serena Slam, a prospect of indescribable horror.

The civilised world demands a challenger and the defending Australian Open champion arrives with Christmas dinner still hanging over her belt.

Has Capriati, like Martina Hingis, last year's Australian Open finalist, also mentally tossed in the towel?

But, hang on, hadn't we been through this before, the mystery of the Capriati physiognomy? Last year she arrived here for the adidas International carrying the same amount of suet and we rushed to the TAB to bet against her in Melbourne after she was belted by big, strong Alexandra Stevenson in the second round.

Capriati, now a mature and charming 26, may be one of the elite crew of power hitters on the women's tour but she is not a big woman at 174cm and 61kg -- even if Serena has entered herself in this year's media guide as a petite 59kg, which would make her 9kg lighter than Kim Clijsters. Maybe The Slammer sneaked one leg off the scale.

You would not think that Capriati could afford any extra weight. As they say in racing, it will stop a train.

But after Sydney last year Jennifer moved on to Melbourne and improved match by match. By the quarter-final she was able to dispatch Amelie Mauesmo 6-2 6-2. In the semi she rolled Clijsters 7-5 3-6 6-1.

Then came that extraordinary final against Hingis in 45C heat with both women swooning. It was a brutal, primeval struggle - the women's tennis equivalent of the Dean Jones ordeal in India - with Capriati looking out of it after losing the first set 4-6.

At that stage the smaller, quicker Hingis should have prevailed. And she ran to a 4-0 lead in the second. But Capriati somehow saved four match points and took the second in a tie-breaker.

Then, with Hingis out on her feet, she took the third 6-2. Capriati showed why she had the No.1 ranking at the time. She had the champion's heart.

But was it an illusion? Serena had withdrawn from the Australian Open with an ankle twisted at Homebush. Venus played but bowed out in the quarter-finals, with a histrionic hobble, beaten by Monica Seles. And once the sisters got their act together, Jennifer was no longer the same force.

The remaining three grand slams were the Serena d Venus routine.

Jennifer lost to Serena in the semis at Roland Garros after holding a 6-3 6-5 lead. She lost to Mauresmo in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and to Mauresmo again in the quarter-finals of the US Open after serving for the match. There seemed to be two different games being played - Williams and the rest.

So she is back, looking much the same. But, in her case, appearances are so deceptive. After a brisk 90-minute workout, while spectators fried, and columnists grew florid as lobsters, there wasn't a bead of sweat on her while hitting partner Glenn Knox, who had watched a lot of heavy serves and groundstrokes fly past, was flushed and grabbing for the water bottle.

By next week at the Open she could be in even better shape than last year and praying for 50C heat. If she can't beat a Williams, maybe she can melt one. Instead of a Serena Slam we could get Serena soup.

Kim is seeded #2 here, so she's the highest seed left, yes.

Here's the news on JCap (from various articles):

Capriati makes early exit from Sydney tennis

January 7, 2003

SYDNEY (Ticker) - Jennifer Capriati's preparations for next week's Australian Open were derailed Tuesday with a second-round upset from the $932,000 adidas International hardcourt tennis event.

The top-seeded American, who earned a first-round bye, dropped her first match of 2003, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, to Russia's Tatiana Panova.

"I've just got to forget about it and think about next week," said Capriati, who lost for the first time in four meetings with Panova. "It is the start of the year, my first match back so it's to be expected that I'm not going to play the greatest."

It was the second consecutive year Capriati lost her opening match at Sydney and the fourth straight year she's failed to get beyond the second round, but it has not hindered her efforts at the Australian Open. She was a semifinalist in 2000 before winning the title the last two years.

Capriati ousted in Australian Open tuneup

January 7, 2003

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Two-time defending Australian Open champion Jennifer Capriati was eliminated from the Sydney International on Tuesday, losing to Russia's Tatiana Panova 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round.

This is the fourth consecutive year Capriati failed to get past the second round in Sydney, her final tuneup for the Australian Open, which starts Monday.

"It is the start of the year, my first match back,'' the top-seeded Capriati said. "So it's expected that I'm not gong to play the greatest my first match,'' she said.

Capriati had 14 double faults and 64 unforced errors on a breezy day on center court.

"Does it set me back? No. I'm confident,'' she said. "It starts, for me, in a Grand Slam. I think I raise my level automatically.''

Hi Leo!

So you got your tapes eh? Great!! That Lindsay match was great too -- I remember her winning Wimby -- so nice for her!!

I want details of the Roma01 too!! I could kick myself for erasing or deciding not to tape that match cos Juanqui lost early in the match... how dumb of me!!! Never again!

I'm very happy for DON JUANQUI -- wow, he's on fire, that little Mosquito guy! VAMOS!! Who's next for him??

Also happy for Marat but it wasn't easy. And Kimmie too!! Max has a tough one -- davai Maxim!!

As for his match vs. Tommy Haas Stuttgart01 -- I was so sad for him at the end and it was pretty easy for Tommybuns -- not a good match if you like Max... his Semi vs. Rogi in Hamburg02 was better -- he didn't do too badly and Rogi was nice to him when he fell. Maybe you have that one already??

The one I stayed was more than 6 years ago and it's a bit expensive IMO. I stayed there cos it's actually my hubby's business trip (so the room is paid by his company) and I was still in maternity leave, so I just flied there with Vince (he was just 5 months old). It's Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown but it's gorgeous and it's less than $200/night during peak season.

My sister went to Toronto & Montreal about 2 years ago, she ended up joining a guided tour to Montreal organized by some Chinese travel company in Toronto and the whole tour (including transport between TO & MTL) is cheaper than just renting hotel rooms herself.

Yay, Laurie Anderson! :bounce: I saw her in concert once and I was so impressed by her performance that when it was over, I was jumping up and down saying I would be Laurie Anderson when I grew up. Of course I was kidding, I was all grown up by then, but she is incredibly cool. She was wearing a body suit that had wires attached to it and everytime she would do a specific gesture, she set off a sound effect. She reminded me of a magician up there. I have all her albums (but only 2 of them on CDs). To me, she has the most beautiful female speaking voice. I could listen to her talk for hours, it's enchanting. I bought The Ugly One With The Jewels which contains only her stories and I even wrote them all down, so I could practice speaking like her. :o

It's a shame yuo couldn't find good quality songs on Kazaa, but you should really try again and again. I've had to work a little harder on some artists if I wanted to get all the songs from Kazaa. It took me weeks to download 3 Mark Eitzel CDs but I did it in the end and it was worth it. :) I don't have the software with which to rip songs so I can't help you with that yet. Yay! Juanqui won!:bounce: I have to admit that I was worried about Misha. And I'm still worried about Paradorn. I like both Paradorn and Juanqui so I hope the winner of the match will take the tourney! this following excerpt is from cnnsi.com:

******
Relegated to one of the back courts, where the westerly breezes kept the players a little cooler than on the centre court, Ferrero played a near faultless match to win easily and get himself out of the sun as quickly as possible.

******

It still pisses me off that they put him on the backcourts in tourneys (esp last year's Roma incident) :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: . I don't care if it DID help him win the match. It just seems disrespectful to someone of his ranking. I know we've been talking about how claycourters can get dissed my some tennis fans but I wonder what is the level of respect for Juanqui in the tennis world, among other players and tournament organizers, etc. I remember Juanqui saying that the Spanish players didn't get enough respect last year.

no. he used to hit with two hands on the forehand when he was younger but then he switched to one hand on the forehand.

I'm working and posting here -- yuk work...

yeah, i already have that Roger/Max semifinal on tape from Hamburg. a good match to re-watch. :)

A little hockey talk with Vera.

Look at the guys and you think they won the match.

Lee
01-08-2003, 04:55 PM
This is the China Winter Game, the team is Macau and they lost that match 5-1. They scored a goal just before the end of the game. The mission of the team is to score a goal and they managed to achieve it in their second game. In the first game, they lost 18-0, pretty incredible in a hockey game.

I guess that's the real spirit of playing a sport, they have a goal they want to achieve, they get it done earlier than they expect and they are happy even they lost all their games.

The next game is more incredible, Macau lost 30-0 to Hong Kong. I guess the Hong Kong team have a whole bunch of Chinese-Canadian there, probably all grown up in Vancouver or Toronto.

And this is the Hong Kong team.

I read this in Gotennis:

Another Article about ATP Sydney:
Sixth seed Andy Roddick suffered a surprise second-round defeat to Korean qualifier Hyung-Taik Lee at the adidas International Wednesday as extreme heat, gale-force winds and driving rain conspired to make conditions almost intolerable for players in Sydney. Roddick had beaten Lee in their five career meetings but, reduced at times to hitting slice forehands and backhands due to the extreme wind, Roddick took his first loss to Lee, 7-6(5), 7-5.

Top seed Marat Safin shook off a first-set loss to defeat Finn Jarkko Nieminen 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Safin, the beaten finalist at last year's Australian Open, next plays Lee.

Second seed Juan Carlos Ferrero had a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win over Russian Davis Cup hero Mikhail Youzhny. The Spaniard, who took world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt to five sets in the final of Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai, now plays Thai shotmaker Paradorn Srichaphan. Srichaphan extended his unbeaten streak in 2003 to seven matches after rallying from a set and a break down against Max Mirnyi to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Ferrero: "It was very difficult to play in the heat. It's totally different because the weather in Spain now is very cold.

On his next opponent Srichaphan: "He's playing very well at the moment - he won a tournament last week and he finished last year really, really solid. He has a lot of confidence because he has gone up [the rankings] very fast. He will be a difficult player to play."

Safin: "He just played a great game in the first set. In the second set he just made a few errors and I got some confidence. They were hot and windy conditions. It's one of the hottest matches I've played. It's a great place to practice for the Australian Open."

Roddick: "It was match point ... he was playing with the wind, I was playing against it. I took a grip and took full heaves at it. Normally it would have gone out of the stadium but it actually went in. I made four in a row. I'm not going to beat myself up over the loss. It was unbelievable conditions. It's disappointing because I would have liked another match or two in preparation going into the Aussie Open."

Srichaphan: "I lost the first set and was down a break but I just tried to hang in the match, holding onto my serve, having a good time. You have to get used to the weather, get used to conditions at different tournaments. My body feels okay even though I've played a lot of matches because I've been working hard off the court. I don't mind playing a lot of matches."

Grow up Andy! A professional tennis player can't blame his lost to weather!

Will any anti-decongestant help? Whenever I have a stuffy nose, I will have a severe headache cos by the sinus so I must use the drug.

-4 is definitely cold for England but it's the hard fact of life that whenever you have a cold, the weather is miserable at the same time.

My whole body is sore like hell, as I predict yesterday, thanks to my master in TKD class. Whenever I cough, laugh or sneeze, the muscles around my torso hurt. I had a long soak in a hot bath last night but not much help. Of course, the weather compliments my miserable feeling by raining whole morning so far.

I have complete faith in him. ;)

Wow  I don't know if that helps, but it is nice to know that you have such faith in him. It's just an addition to the end of last year's season -- we all have those times when it's very difficult to be a fan but you hang in there anyway.

I think he will eventually get it going; it seems like a lot of players have had rough starts to the year. He always kicks ass on grass, at least :D and is not to shabby on clay. I just have to be patient until then.

Layla, sounds like you're finally in your winter wonderland :) I hope you enjoy your movie, and your computer doesn't give you any more problems.

ILR, that sucks that you're sick :( Is it possible to spread germs over the internet? ;) Like Lee suggested, I'd take some decongestant and keep plenty of tissues handy. Some things you just have to wait it out.

Lee, I'm sorry you feel sore. When I start going to the gym in the summer sometimes my legs are so sore I can't even walk, but it kinda makes me proud because I know I'm doing something good for my body.

As for tennis, I went to check out scores and go for pictures and saw the mess that is the men's draw in Sydney -- WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?!?!?!?! Andy :eek: Carlos!!:eek::eek::eek:

Juan Carlos is finally getting the respect he deserves as the second seed, and is playing on Center Court. Kimmy is again up first, and I think Juanqui is the third or fourth match. Daniela and Lindsay are the featured match tonight on Center Court.

And I'm over Jarkko's loss :) I knew that match wouldn't be an easy one but after he won the first set . . . you know how hopes get up. Plus there was a picture of him! :hearts: I wish Safin the best of luck in the tournament, and of course I hope Juan Carlos can finally defeat Srichaphan :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Well, city of Vancouver is quite happy that there's no snow, we Western coasters are so not used to snow and every time there's snow on the floor, you can be sure there'll be chaos on the street. Last time my car got rearended was first day of snow last year. I drove home from the station, just 5 mins drive and I was praying that no one will hit me. But sure enough, just outside the station, I was driving 20 km (not even mph), that idiot ran into me when i stopped for light. Anyway, snow on the ground is no good for us.

Without snow cover in Winter, lots of top soil will be blown away. When spring comes, the land will be too dry for farming and more top soil will be gone before the wet seaon come. With snow (turn to ice), the top soil is protected and when spring comes, the ice melted to moisten the ground for seeding.

This was what I learned living in cow town for 14 years. :D :D

Carlos lost to Fish:mad: . They were just having some debate about Carlos and Lleyton's h to h in the GM. Hate it when that happen, now the Lleykis are just going to drive Carlos to the ground for losing to Fishy! C'mon Carlos, regain your form and do well in AO.

Although the Prairie is rich with oil but farming and ranching are still major industries there.

Some Calgarian may be offended for Calgary being called cow town but I am OK with it. It is true the Calgary has grown to very high tech since the cow town days but its root is still agriculture. Calgarians are very proud of their Stampede so as long as you are not looking down at the city when you say cow town, I don't feel offense with it.

I won't look down on Calgary, and for Alberta for that matter. Hell, if BC is run half as good as Alberta, I'll be happy. I just hate our provincial gov't for running our province into shit. Why can they do what Alberta does to make it. Man, don't start me on the government.

No.
But it's also about the ppl, like I believe that ppl in Alberta is probably more willing to accept the changes the government made to allow them the reform, hence, the result.

Here in BC, ppl are so stupid, they want the result but they hate the changes. I mean, they want something good without any sacrifice .

I agree with you! It's not easy with all the cut backs when Ralphie come to power in early 90's but after suffering for a few years, the economy really flies. Another reason I think is the unions in Alberta are not as powerful as in BC. Also, the populations is younger in Alberta and more educated, (Calgary has the highest college grad per capita in Canada) this makes changes much easier.

CALL TO PUSH BACK AUSTRALIAN OPEN

Agassi also threw his weight behind calls to push the Australian Open back in the year on Wednesday, saying it would enhance the quality of the season's first grand slam.

"From an ideal standpoint, everybody would be better served if it was pushed back in the year," he said. "It would give us (players) more chance to relax in what you could call the off-season and it would allow for a better build up and for better tennis at the Open. You get some pretty surprising results often because everybody is straight out of the blocks."

Former women's number one Martina Navratilova led calls for the grand slam to be put back a month to February to let the players have a longer Christmas break and avoid the hottest part of the Australian summer.

"It could take someone dying before things will change," she said in her column for The Australian newspaper.

Navratilova won the Australian Open three times but refused to play again after 1989 when it moved from the grass courts of Kooyong to the Rebound Ace at Melbourne Park even though she continued her career for another five years.

"I would have loved to have kept playing here (but) it's too hot in January," the 46-year-old said. "When you're playing a match and all you can think of is how to stay cool, trying to find any shade on court, that is no good for anybody."

Navratilova will nonetheless be returning this year, but in doubles, as she attempts to repeat last week's success in Gold Coast when teamed up with Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova to become the oldest circuit player, male or female, singles or doubles, to win a tournament.

We are in the same boat, RF! I haven't been able to get my motivation. My friend kept telling me that if I can feel more desparate, maybe I'll be more motivated. But god knows I just tend to freak out under desparation (what a headcase I am so I will never beat on Marat). I'm trying to be more positive. And I don't think not having a job means I should stop enjoying life, as long as I'm not a burden to anyone. All the points are valid but as expected, this won't happen for some time.

The summer in Scottsdale here is constantly over 100F/37C. Even it's very dry here, it's so taxing to stay out for longer than 30 minutes. In Melbourne, it's hot AND humid, which make it much worse. Thus, there's no sense to play a grand slam in conditions like that.

Though, if Juanqui win his match today, it's good that he doesn't have to face Carlos again. I'm beginning to feel bad for Carlos to lose to Juanqui every time. So it's better that they don't have to face each other. Juanqui must win today. Man, I'm very nervous about this one.

Oh, I too agree that the Australian summer is way too unbearable to play an outdoor tournament, and the Slam is really early in the year. I just thought it amusing  that Agassihole was very quick to say something.

Justine won 6-4, 6-4 so Paradorn and Juanqui must be on the court. they're prolly in their warm ups now.
