:) Lee, my mom used to have the "star" system too for motivation! It's a good idea -- gives kids a little goal to work towards! We had them for chores, for allowance, for piano lessons, etc.

ILR -- are you a Scouser? I meant to ask earlier. Does Sting have [did he have] a Geordie accent?? He's from Newcastle isn't he??

My stomach's grumbling!

LOL, you guys are so excited about your snow :) It has all but melted here and is between that depressing "It's almost gone :(" and "Yuck -- mud" state.

I'm so happy you were able to see some snow before you left, though :bounce: I was getting a bit worried ;) And now you truly have the best of both worlds -- a bit of white Chritmas before you leave and family and home for the actual day! :)

Well, I'm just here for a few minutes before lunch & my last class of the day. I have to make up some work for another class I have today (stats -- natch :D) but other than that, my classes are over this afternoon!! Tomorrow I will have work but that's it.

So that always brings out the best in me :) And seeing everyone so excited for snow (I always am, too), and the Christmas spirit permeating Mrs. B's thread -- well, who could ask for a better Monday? :)

I love flying. :hearts: Even if it's a long flight, and you make it sound like such an adventure Mrs. B. :) I've never even heard of computer games and stuff to do on a plane, the best I got was a movie or two. But I just love looking out the window the whole time and listening to my walkman. :bounce: I want to go somewhere just so I can fly again. ;)

Layla
12-09-2002, 07:37 PM
LOL, it's great to see the Christmas spirit permeate both forums. :D

Unfortunately, I'm feeling a bit sad at the moment. During my lunch break I was exploring the stange intricacies of the relationhship between Weezer and their fans and I'm really confused. The fans seem to hate Rivers now. They don't like anything they've put out since Pinkerton, are obsessed with that album and just want the "old" Rivers back, which is such bollocks anyway. They don't allow a person to change and grow. I think they're all pretty ignorant about who Rivers is anyway, even though they think they know everything about him. They think they know when he's fooling them and when he's serious, but I seriously doubt it. I don't think Rivers changed that much at all, but they make him out to be some horrible ass-hole. That saddens me. I think I shouldn't be reading those boards anymore, but I know Rivers does. He probably gets a kick out of it.

No, their last two albums are not brilliant, and I can understand their frustration, but there's no need for hostility. Pfffft @ Weezer fans. I'm disappointed. :p

No, I feel bad because of the band, because of my adorable husband. ;) I'd hate to see my fans slam me like that. :( That was a message board on their official website. And they ARE fans, because they still obsess about the band and hang on every word and every note that comes from them.

I don't think fans should only praise their favorite, of course it's ok to criticize them from time to time, but this was way beyond criticism. It makes me wonder, I you have nothing good to say about someone and that's been going on for years, why still cling on, why not just let go and find someone else. When love turns into hate, it's time to go, unless you can somehow get back to the good place. But they're all waiting for Weezer to produce an exact replica of the Blue Album, and then and only then will they be happy. Well sorry, but it doesn't work that way. The Blue Album was a unique, brilliant, amazing album. Why would I want a copy of it? It will only diminish it. I want something new. But like I said, I don't get it. Lyrics! :p

And I wished for so long. Cannot stay.
All the precious moments. Cannot stay.
It's not like wings have fallen. Cannot stay.
But still something's missing. I cannot say, yeah.

Holding hands are daughters and sons.
And their faiths are falling down, down, down, down.
I have wished for so long. How I wish for you today.

Will I walk the long road? (the long road) Cannot stay. (the long road)
There's no need to say goodbye. (to say goodbye)

All the friends and family.
All the memories going round, round, round, round.
I have wished for so long. How I wish for you today.

And the wind keeps roaring. And the sky keeps turning grey.
And the sun is set. The sun will rise another day.

I...

I have wished for so long. How I wish for you today.
I have wished for so long. How I wish for you today.

Will I walk the long road? We all walk the long road.

AND quotes... :p

I love that shoe quote... right after Ed yells at
people throwing shoes on the stage, and then
threatening that he and Jeff will beat up all the
people with bare feet... he decides it would be a good
idea to give them to charity .. "I know, we can donate
them to charity, thats right, more shoes, more shoes,
shoe the shoeless" ..aaahhh cracks me up every time.

:D

The Mike quote is funny (if I get it right) "I heard a
Creed song on the radio the other day and I thought
'is that us?'"

:D

And the last two, as I saved the two killers for the end. ;)

The other is Atlanta 98 when he was talking about the
Beastie Boys playing the next night. He was
remembering a band called the Yeastie Girls from San
Diego and he sang one of their songs: "We're the
Yeastie girls with Yeastie power/ we don't shave and
we don't shower/ Gather all the people, watch and see
(?)/ We put things in our vaginas that you wouldn't
believe!"

 LMAO!

A girl in the front yells out "Eddie!", loud enough to
be heard throughout much of the auditorium.

Ed's reply: "Yeah, OK, so you know my name. And if I
knew your name I'd tell you to shut the fuck up."

ROTLMAO!! Im sure I wouldnt be able to listen to the rest of the show no more, I would have to leave cracking up. :p

Thanks for clarifying that. I hope the moronic type is not in the majority. They were pretty vocal at that board and acted like they were the shit. LMAO! One actually made me laugh. He acted like Rivers should make the kind of songs HE wants him to make and that he KNOWS he is capable of making. That just cracked me up. :D Listen to this!

"I don't buy this "artist-as-ubermensch" thing. Don't let Rivers just sit back and do what he loves. The only reason he's able to keep putting out records is because of the patronizing acceptance of his crap. If you sit back and say, "this is what we're going to get, like it or not," you're going to get crap.

Rivers could be prosecuted as a criminal against humanity for not using the gift he's been given."

Hehe, I had no idea that fans are the reason why artists create and not say a driving need to express yourself. Fight against the injustice! Stand up against the mighty Rivers! Show him he can't do what he wants to do, because YOU say so! Too funny. :D Next thing you know, fans will be suing their favorite bands for not producing the music they want them to. What is this world coming to.

Too bad he didn't say any stuff like that at the Ljubljana concert. In fact he didn't say much at all. :( Must be because he wasn't sure what to expect.

I guess he steps back when he is not in the US. Maybe afraid that most people wouldnt get the jokes, or something?? Well, Im sorry since I wouldnt like if he pulled a "Silent Bob" here in Brazil...

Anyway, I discovered some wicked websites on PJ.
The first, www.lukin.com is a perfect place for lyrics, tour data, discography, and those stuff.
The second, www.theskyiscrape.com is the perfect place for new info, as it is constantly updates with show setlist, mp3 with samples of the shows, videos, reviews and that sort of thing.
And the last, www.presenttense.net is heaven! You can find all the 2000 tour on mp3 and download them in HIGH quality to burn the cds at home!!! Im downloading the Pittsburgh show right now, and it takes a while since the songs are on 256Kbps.
Absolutely worth a look. :D

Errr, *cough* I quite enjoyed Lara Croft *cough* :o just because she was such a great presence and I thought she was perfect for the role. True, she didn't have to act at all, but she was an inspiration, if you know what I mean. ;) I love powerful women. :D The movie was silly though.

Oh and a huge thumbs down to Original sin.

LOL, I didnt even see Lara Croft... :p I figured it would be totally non-sense. But as you say its not that bad, its gonna be on tv this month. I will give it a chance then.

You should definitely see Girl, Interrupted. Your video doesnt have it YET? Well, its not a new one at all. I guess its from 1999 or 2000. Take a new look, its well worth it. A dark movie, her role is superb. Sometimes I think if the Hackie from the story is not based on Jolie“s Lisa on Girl... :D lmao

Hallo, thread :wavey:

TH's Temperature Watch: 17F/-8C and there's a patch of "wintry mix" headed for us, so things might get interesting ;)

How is everyone today? I'm doing well. No classes :D but I do have to go to work (I feel yer pain, hitman ;)) The feeling on campus is a very interesting one. There's excitement in the air because it's the end of the semester, mixed with that feeling of dread because we all know we're going to be up studying our asses off for our exams. And there's even a little Christmas cheer out there but not very much as of yet. As the week winds down, however -- I'm sure this place will get hectic :D

Girl, Interrupted was originally a book and it looked interesting to me but I never read it. The movie apparently was very good, as close to the book as Hollywood allows

Might bake some chocolate chocolate chip muffins tonight as a snack while watching the Rogi/Hewitt Shanghai match [I know he lost but I've never seen this match]. Did you see Rogi beat Lleyton in Miami semis this year? I just saw this match last night -- his interview was SO cute!! I guess I should practise Chestnuts roasting... on my piano -- it's my once-a-year piano-playing!! :p Guitar is easier even though I never got the hang of it... there's one hanging around our place somewhere...

:) Funny ILR! I was just saying to my sis that a lot of Brits don't visit other cities in UK, even London but they do go to Spain: Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca, or Alicante! When I was a student in Valencia we had a "school trip" to Benidorm, of all places! This was our cultural enrichment I guess! It was so hot and sunny and I got the sunburn of my life two days previously and had to hide under a big umbrella w my T-shirt and jeans! Didn't stop a bunch of cheeky British blokes from trying to invite us to a disco that evening!!

12-10-2002, 08:44 PM
well it is true there really isnt much different in the rest of England that you wouldnt find anywhere else except London, and I have been there.I went a couple of years ago but yes you are right, generally we dont.I,speaking for myself but I guess many other Brits, would much rather go abroad and find the sun and cheap food and a clean beach and lots of night clubs and bars to be honest!:p I know Id rather go somewhere where I havent been or somewhere I know I can find a guy with long hair!lol.

Oh nothing will stop cheeky British blokes believe me!Especially drunken ones!

LOL!! Wasn't it the Brit guys who started this long hair thing in the first place?? Believe it or not when the Beatles first arrived on the scene, "old" people were scandalized by their "LONG" hair!! Mop tops!! :D

The only long-haired guy I know of is Carlos... there must be more! Footie guys, right?

As for our fave long-haired guy, he's not in a warm sunny place w a beach... but that's OK by us, right, ILR?

Inzaghi? who else?? i think it's funny how they make footie guys wear suits sometimes... just like the hockey players after a game. They“ve been better these last years. We were better for almost all the history untill the 80s.
They won the Toyota Cup in the early 80s and then it all changed. :(

Aerosmit Eat The Rich was on just now. I love that song. :D

Thats how it was with us.We were better in the 60's,70's and 80's we even dominated Europe but the 90's we may aswell of been non-exsistant.We were awful. In the year 2000 I thought we were getting things back together, winning the Uefa cup then finally getting into the Champions League and finishing 2nd in the league. But now we are still in a terrible patch.:(

Its a show on MTV called Control Freak. Three options of clips show in the side of the screen, and you vote through the internet. The most voted plays while a new vote is given. And then it goes.

Oh, they are the same indeed?? Thats less lame then. But they still suck.
I guess they copy Silverchair a bit. :o

Yeah after seeing the Scum :p winning the league 7 times in 9 years or something along those lines with us finishing lower than them the years we never won it,its a bad feeling.:( And last year round x-mas time we were 12 points clear of Arsenal then hit another awful patch and surrendered the league to them :( Didnt think we'd do it 2 years running :( Its hard isnt it?

And LOL, only when you've spun the disk as many times as I have do you understand the totally deep meaning I associate with The Blue Album :o To me, a lot of the emotion is in the music, and that just can't be conveyed by posting the lyrics (although they have meaning until themselves . . .) Key Arena Dec. 9

setlist: Release, Breakerfall, Save You, Gods' Dice, Cropduster, Green Disease, Lukin, Not For You, Black, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Daughter/War (Edwin Starr), Even Flow, Thumbing My Way, Light Years, You Are, Insignificance, Rearviewmirror
encore: Last Exit, Brain Of J, Bu$hleaguer, I Got Shit, Elderly Woman, Do The Evolution
encore 2: Yellow Ledbetter, Don't Believe in Christmas (The Sonics)

notes:
- Ed smahes his teal SG guitar to pieces after Rearviewmirror.
- Lukin is started, stopped, and then started again for a great version with no flubs.

Hail Hail (I LOVE this song!!)

Ah, is there room for both of us? Both of us apart?
Are we bound out of obligation? Is that all we've got?
I get the words and then I get to thinking.
I don't want to think, I want to feel.
And how do I feel? And fuckin“ how do I...

If you're the only one will I never be enough? Yeah.
Hail hail the lucky ones. I refer to those in love. Yeah.

Oh, how I'll love you til the day I die and beyond.
Are we going to the same place? If so can I come?
It's egg rolling thick and heavy. All the past you carry.
Oh, I could be new. You underestimate me.

If you're the only one will I never be enough? Yeah.
Hail hail the lucky ones. I refer to those in love. Yeah.

I sometimes realize I could only be as good as you'll let me.
Are you woman enough to be my man? Bandaged hand in hand.

I find it on the run in a race that can't be won. Yeah.
All hail the lucky ones. I refer to those in love. Yeah.
If you're my only one, so could you only one?
I want to be your one. Enough! You won no one. You're one.

I guess we have a winner! ;)

Hmmm....

Corduroy
The waiting drove me mad. You're finally here and I'm a mess.
I take your entrance back. Can't let you roam inside my head.

I don't want to take what you can give.
I would rather starve than eat your bread.
I would rather run but I can't walk.
Guess I lie alone just like before.

I'll take the varmints path. Oh, and I must refuse your test.
A-push me and I will resist. This behavior's not unique.

I don't want to hear from those who know.
They can buy but can't put on my clothes.
I don't want to wait for them to walk.
Never would have known of me before.

I don't want to be held in your debt.
I'll pay it off in blood let I be wed.
I'm already cut up and half dead.
I'll end up alone like I began. Yea...

Everything has chains. Absolutely nothing's changed.
"Take my hand, not my picture." Spilled my teacher.

I don't want to take what you can give.
I would rather starve than eat your breast.
All the things that others want for me.
Can't buy what I want because it's free. (x2)
Can't be what you want because I...

Why ain't it susposed to be just fun?
Oh, to live and die let it be done.
I figure I'll be damned. All alone like I began.

It's your move now. I thought you were a friend but I guess, I... I guess I hate you.

LOL, find the lyrics . . .

Unless something changes there won't be a song in the final  but hitman's giving me ideas for PJ songs I could use . . . .
