No more boy talk today?? There was once a nice guy named Kostya who went to these Russian parties at university who seemed vaguely interested in me but it was too late when I kind of noticed... if only! I never knew what his REAL name was though -- we all had Russian names in class. Mine was ANNA -- exciting eh??

My Russian name is Tatyana. I named myself after my favorite Romanov daughter :o;)

I only know one real Russian guy, but I haven't spoken to him very much. His eyes are very intense, very piercing. He's definitely not interested in me, though. And I didn't particularly like him, either. But I enjoyed his Russianness :D

And yes, ILR, the Ukraine is right next to Russia and was part of it for a good long time ;)

:) Hackie! You're around! I don't like Tanya either. Tatyana is nicer. A lot of people in my class were of some Slavic background, like Russian, Ukrainian, etc. Also I was the only person who didn't have any German studies. I was the lone Romance languages person! So I found Russian very foreign but a huge challenge.

Re: Leo's VCR -- I have one that doesn't work anymore either but who knows who can fix these machines?!!! If I could find someone, I would and it's not even that old! I had to buy another one -- I tape so many tennis tournaments -- imagine if we got more than the GS and the TMS!! I want a recordable DVD machine!!! Anyway...

It's taking me a long time to decide which matches to buy on video and from where. Would you buy from videoarc? I don't know about ordering stuff from Italy...:p

Hope you are enjoying your musical studies :D

LOL, well, I'm in the majority in my class -- most of us studied a Romance language in high school. Only one girl (incidentally, the same girl who took the name Sveta first) took German -- for 6 years! -- and as you can imagine she's really good at Russian.

The fact that you can't record from the TV onto DVD is the whole reason I don't even have a DVD player. I tape tons of things, mostly tennis, so I <3 my VCR. VCRs in my house have lasted a long time, so I think I'm in good standing at the moment ;)

The only place I've ever bought tapes from is Sports Resources, in England. They don't always have the matches I want, though, so . . . but the tapes they do have are excellent :D So I'd definitely recommend them. Never heard of or used videoarc.

By the way, I had my German chocolate bar a few moments ago and it wasn't nearly as good as the Swiss :( It wasn't really milk chocolate, it was definitely darker than milk. But it as good nonetheless. It was a dollar cheaper than the Lindt bars, so I kinda knew even befoe I ate it . . . .

And a bit of old news, but I thought it'd round out this edition of "WTA News" rather well ;)

Fans pick Hantuchova as ‘Most Improved’
November 25, 2002

Slovak Daniela Hantuchova has been selected by fans as the Tour’s most improved player of 2002, attracting more than half of all votes in the latest Sanex WTA Tour Weekly Poll.

Hantuchova, the only player in 2002 who broke into the world’s Top 10 for the first time, enjoyed an outstanding season, highlighted by a debut Tour title at Indian Wells and a runner-up finish at Filderstadt. Quarterfinal appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open also helped the 19-year-old break into the elite Top 10 in October and she currently sits at a career-high No.8 on the Sanex WTA singles rankings.

Coming in equal second were Eleni Daniilidou and Anastasia Myskina, who both enjoyed their own breakthrough years in 2002. Daniilidou won her first Tour singles title on grass in the Netherlands in June, saving six match points to defeat defending champion Justine Henin en route. The big-serving Greek also reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, taking Jennifer Capriati to three sets.

Myskina is very much on the verge of the Top 10. The current world No.11 scored a string of upset wins during 2002 and won the biggest title of her career at Bahia, Brazil (coincidentally, defeating Daniilidou in the final).

Finishing in fourth place in the Weekly Poll was American Alexandra Stevenson, whose season was highlighted by three victories over Capriati and an exceptional indoor season (reaching the Linz final), which at the last minute earned her the alternate position for the season-ending Home Depot Championships presented by Porsche.

Rounding out the field was Anna Smashnova, who started the season ranked No.87 but finished as the highest-ever ranked Israeli, breaking into the Top 20 for the first time, courtesy of four singles titles (a haul bettered only by the two Williams sisters).

Hi Lee!
I guess we'll see you tomorrow! What does your son do on the computer?

This is from RF in Mrs. B's thread and I think I answered it here.

My son plays computer games like 'Star War', 'Motor Crosses', etc. on the computer. He has his own computer but that is a very old model and lots of new games can't play there.

Morning everyone! http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies/cow.gif

I'm sorry I couldn't be here yesterday. I had to work until 2 am, because I spent too much time watching all the winter sports during the day. ;) In fact, I'm watching the men's cross-country relay as we speak, but since it's such a long race (4x10 km), this is the best time to catch up with all of you here. :)

So without further ado, I will start reading the posts now.

Exactly!

It's interesting, I don't know how to classify Micha--he was born and raised in Switzerland, but his parents are Czech, so where does he fit in? One for the experts, I guess.

See, the Czechs are the most difficult to define and Michel just proves it. ;)

The fact that Scandanavians suffer from light-related psychological disorders is very, very interesting. I don't doubt it for a second (sometimes I wonder how people have managed to survive in such harsh climates) but it really arouses my psychological curiosity at the same time. Guess I'll have to plan a trip and do some research . . . :D

And while you're at it, you might want to drop by in Slovenia too. ;) I've always maintained that the Slovene national character needs a good psychiatrist, and fast. There are centuries of work ahead of us. It's also typical of Slovenes that despite their many psychological problems and frustration, they would never even consider professional help. Going to a psychiatrist or even a psychologist or indeed any kind of counsellor means that you are a sick psycopath who should be in a hospital. It's the worst kind of disgrace you can visit upon yourself. Seriously, it's practically unheard of. This kind of attidude certainly doesn't help, and it might be part of the reason why Slovenia is right up there near the top of European countries in terms of the number of suicides, and why alcoholism is such a problem. In many way, we act like we live in a sun-deprived country, while in fact we get plenty of sunlight all year. Hmmm, what a conundrum. And it doesn't help that we have awful, conservative psychiatrists who still swear by Freud and pills. :(

Svetlana was too, come to think of it.

Only one more week of work? That sounds like a dream to me. ;) My work is not going terribly well. I worked my ass of every day of the past week, but today I just feel completely burnt out and can't get myself to start. The fact that there are so many winters sports events on tv today doesn't help either. I'm watching ski jumping now. But that only means I'll have to work past midnight again. :(

Why don't you take it to the shop? A good repairman will be able to fix almost anything. I've taken my various VCR's to the shop quite a few times, sometimes I was happy about the job and sometimes not, but at least they always made it work again. I use the VCR several hours a day, so it's no surprise that they break down more often than those of other people. What brand do you have? My favorite is Panasonic and I'll probably never buy anything else. The picture is really sharp. My mom once bought a Sony (it wasn't cheap either) which is really crap. The picture is terrible, the sound is even worse and it's giving us all sorts of problems. I'm really not on good terms with that VCR.

Crim, is Intro to Criminology. They dont' offer a criminal psychology course here.. in part because apparently criminals are being studied more based on sociological impacts that motivate them, as opposed to personal psychological factors.

I'm done this semester on Friday, around 1pm. However I'm back in class again on the 6th of January, so just a short holiday.

I was up about 24 hours straight then crashed at 6 pm last night or so. I woke up at 11pm at first but stayed in bed because i figured it was better to get up and stay up for the day, and not end up sleeping though it again.

That doesn't make much sense to me (concentrating on sociological impact), but so be it. I suppose it's easier to generalize that way, but does it help when you want to catch a particular criminal? Still, an interesting course. :)

Hey, that's almost a month's worth of free time. Good enough in my books. :) Do you have any plans? Are you going anywhere special (like New Year's in Hawaii ;) )?

there's not many matches i want to buy from videoarc b/c of the italian commentary, but i did spot the Ferrero/Moya final from Hong Kong this year.. with English commentary! this is one i definitely am going to buy sometime in the future.. but my first two matches i will order (hopefully this week) will be the complete Ferrero/Kuerten final from Roma 2001 and the Davenport/Graf final from Wimby 1999. the two greatest matches ever. :D :bounce:

i was gonna order my two tennis tapes from Sports Resources also. they have alot of matches of my favorites.. a ton of Pat Rafter! :D you should check out www.videoarc.net b/c they might have some of the matches you are looking for.. but the problem is that most of them are in Italian. :(

The picture is terrible, the sound is even worse and it's giving us all sorts of problems. I'm really not on good terms with that VCR.

"Emo rock" is short form for "emotional rock", which means it's supposed to be really sensitive and emotional music. It's become almost an insult, though, because some people construe it to mean wussy boys with guitars.

I can't think of any more emo bands right off the top of my head, so I'll get back to you on that one ;)

I'll also get back to you on Only in Dreams :o But I can say this definitively: I've never listened to Pinkerton. I've never really heard anything good about that album, and Rivers himself said it was a huge difference from their usual style, so I never picked it up.

You like?

Ahh, I see the stigma of mental health still abounds. That's so sad :( especially considering psychology was born in Europe. I guess that explains why I haven't read a lot of research from your country or surrounding countries, though :D Seriously, that's a travesty and I really wish your country the best of luck in trying to fix it. Freudian thought is beyond the way out, its more or less discounted by the whole professional field. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for pills :(:(:( There are more and more overperscription and misperscription of drugs in this country and it's truly frightening. Most of my generation has been on mood-altering drugs for a grand majority of their lives, and we're supposed to be the next leaders of the free world?! A scary thought.

Unfortunately, a lot of psychiatrists prescribe drugs as the first resort, especially now that there are drug ads on TV and everyone thinks they need Zoloft or Paxil if they're feeling a little down or a little stressed. No one seems to understand these are synthetic drugs that alter your brain chemistry!! It's a very dangerous undertaking and my own philosophy is, drugs are a last resort!!

:o LOL, I'll get down off my soapbox now :o

Well, unless you're seriously planning to get the three of us together to go to RG 2003, I don't think it's a problem ;) Tennis tickets are actually quite reasonably priced, especially compared to other events. I don't know how much Grand Slam tickets are, but you probably do have to order them in advance if you want good seats on a show court. Me, I'd be content to wander around and repeat, "Ohmigod, I'm at Roland Garros!"

These holidays I'll just see freinds etc. I can't even afford to buy a pint at a bar when we go out, so I'll be sure to value my 100% sober time ;)

All right, so after assuaging my conscience by doing some work ;), I'll write up my thoughts on this song.

(not the actual cover as this song was never released as a single, but apparently was the inspriation for classical remixes  )

http://www.weezer.com/info/tunes/classicalweezer.jpg

Only In Dreams
(R. Cuomo)

You can't resist her
She's in your bones
She is your marrow
And your ride home

You can't avoid her
She's in the air
In between molecules
Of oxygen and carbon dioxide

Only in dreams
We see what it means
Reach out our hands
Hold on to hers
But when we wake
It's all been erased
And so it seems
Only in dreams

You walk up to her
Ask her to dance
She says, "Hey, baby I just might take the chance" ;)
You say, "It's a good thing
That you float in the air (in the air)
That way there's no way I will
Crush your pretty toenails into a thousand pieces"

Only in dreams
We see what it means
Reach out our hands
Hold on to hers
But when we wake
It's all been erased
And so it seems
Only in dreams

Only in dreams (x6)

The lyrics, to me, are about the futile state of reality and how our dreams hold all the answers. It's by a note of sadness that the last 4 lines of the chorus come true . . .

Both songs are complementary of each other, because both are slow and quiet, working up to the climax of the chorus. Rivers's voice drips with regret, irony, bitterness, and hope all at the same time. An amazing feat, especially when one considers it's comforting at the same time. I found the same feeling of comfort in this song as I did in "Say it Ain't So" and a lot of the other songs on this album. I still think it's their best album, but that's just my personal opinion :o

Do you think he will grow out of it, or does this run in your family somewhere? The diagnostic criteria for AD(H)D is so loose that sometimes one has to wonder . . .

Yes, there are discussions that more and more children are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD which make ppl wonder it's a bit too loose or not.

When first he's diagnosed, I don't accept he really have the problem because he's also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome which, to be described in a very simplified way, is the low end of Autistic Spectrum. The Asperger's Syndrome was more dominate at that time but then, his lack of attention really caught up last December and kept deteriating.

The school he attended this year has special programs in handling children with special needs and his response is very good so far. In the beginning of the school year, he spend half his time in special class and half in regular class, after a few weeks, he spent more time in regular class and for the last 2 months, he has been spending all his time in regular class. I keep constant communication with his teacher and hopefully, he will get better and better.

I was recruited to help with the outdoor lights so BYE!

I've always done photo albs for my trips -- it's part of the fun of travelling for me anyway! :) Well, people do remark on my albums, that's for sure! Doing these albs helps you remember where you went! Maybe that's why I do remember places and details so well.

I have an alb for the TMS TO tournament -- I even cut up my program to place on the players' pages, e.g., Rogi, Juanqui, Tommy H... now I have to do my "One Day at the TMS Madrid" thing -- too bad I don't have many pix -- the crush of fans was overwhelming!! Plus this silly net got in the way of good pix! If I ever do the web thing, I'll certainly give you guys a link. I think I need Hackie and others to help me out!

Does it take long to set up a site? I guess you need to have it all set out in your mind first before actually doing it.

Well, I definitely did a layout of how I wanted the pages to look, and did some investigating on other sites I liked to see how difficult different things would be. It is easier if you know what you want to do before you try to do it.

You need to know a programming language, too. I also use webediting software to create and change my pages, because it's easier to do it while not on the net.

You should also shop around for a host. If you're cheap, like me, you should go for a free host but stay away from geocities, tripod, and angelfire. If you're willing to buy your domain, it can be whatever you want it to be :) but stay away from NetSolutions and Verisign. They are really shitty hosts who steal domains even when you've paid for them

Yes, most free sites have tons of advertising  That's what I like about my host, freeservers -- they give you an option of how to configure the ads. I chose the best one that I could and it's been working out just wonderfully :)

I know some people who have bought their domains use banner ads to generate revenue for their site, I guess to help pay the costs. Most of those sites are pretty elaborate, though, so . . .

As for photo protection, I do believe there is a way to make it so that your pictures can't be stolen, but I don't know what that way is. I think you're on the right track anyway with your copyright notices -- there's no way to take one of those off a picture easily.

The rule of thumb for me is, don't put up something you don't want to be stolen or used in a different way than you intended. But that might be a bit too paranoid for you, so you can loosen it if you please ;)

I can't think of any more emo bands right off the top of my head, so I'll get back to you on that one ;)

I don't think how Weezer fits that description, sounds more like Enrique Iglesias to me, only sung to a rock tune. ;) But if you can think of any band that are considered "emo" and that I actually know (probably a long shot), I might get a better idea of it.

I'll also get back to you on Only in Dreams :o But I can say this definitively: I've never listened to Pinkerton. I've never really heard anything good about that album, and Rivers himself said it was a huge difference from their usual style, so I never picked it up.

You like?

I haven't really listened to it enough to form an opinion, but it's emotionally very raw. I think I like it. I'm surprised you never wanted to check it out, since Rivers poured so much of himself into it. Some of the lyrics are really disturbing though. And some are very painful. But in fact he just poured a small part of himself into the songs. They're mostly sexual in nature and concern the eternal dilemma of the line between love and sex, and some genuine disgust with himself.

This one just breaks my heart.

Why Bother

I know I should get next to you
You've got a look that makes me think you're cool
But it's just sexual attraction
Not somethin' real so I'd rather keep wackin'

Why bother? It's gonna hurt me
It's gonna kill when you desert me
This happened to me twice before
It won't happen to me anymore

I've known a lot of girls before
What's the harm in knowin' one more?
Maybe we could even get together
Maybe you could break my heart next summer

Why bother? It's gonna hurt me
It's gonna kill when you desert me
This happened to me twice before
It won't happen to me anymore

It's a crying shame I'm all alone
Not with you, nor her, nor anyone
Won't you knock me on my head?
Crack it open let me out of here

Why bother? It's gonna hurt me
It's gonna kill when you desert me
This happened to me twice before
It won't happen to me anymore

This one is also very good. I've actually known quite a few relationships that worked solely on that principle.

No Other One

My girl's a liar
But I'll stand beside her
She's all I've got
And I don't want to be alone

My girl don't see me
When she's with my friends
She's all I've got
And I don't want to be alone

No there is no other one
No there is no other one
I can't have any other one
Though I would
Now I never could with one

All of the drugs she does
Scare me real good
She's got a tattoo
And two pet snakes

But nobody knows me like her
Nobody knows her like me
We're all we've got
And we don't want to be alone

No there is no other one
No there is no other one
I can't have any other one
Though I would
Now I never could with one

:o Well, when I finish my orange and have more facility of both hands, I'll try to see if I can find other bands with that label. It's mostly applied to indie rock outfits that wear their hearts on their sleeves in their music.

I agree 100%. Drugs are the last resort. They do seem to be necessary in some cases, but let's try some actual psychological work first, shall we. Shoot, if Slovenia embraced the trend of going to a psychiatrist on a regular basis, we'd probably all be on drugs. But seriously, I too hope my country finds a way out of this mess. I see some progress, because the younger generations are much more open and the stigma of mental health no longer binds them as much. The problem is that they probably don't trust the psychiatrists, because they are old and conservative, like I said. So they'd rather not seek help than end up complicating their lives even further with harmful counselling. As a nation, we're in many different kinds of transitions at this point in history, so we'll see where the future leads us. Hopefully some place nicer. :)

Emo Rock
An arty offshoot of hardcore punk, emo is an important force in underground rock. Some members of the genre lean toward the progressive side, with complex guitar work, unorthodox song structures, arty noise, and extreme dynamic shifts. generally emo lyrics are deeply personal, usually either free-associative poetry or confessionals.

===========================

What Is It?
The short and simple answer is that Emo is Hardcore Punk music with sensitive and emotional lyrics. The music is epitomized by post-Grunge, edgy rock with explosive energy mixed with sensitivity. Emotional lyrics about sadness, love and even anger are common lyrical themes. There is also a subculture of young people that are considered Emo. The casual Emo garb is faded blue jeans or slightly oversized work pants accompanied by a secondhand T-shirt with an out of place logo, bad Heavy Metal tees work well too. Good shoes would be Converse Chuck Taylor low-tops or old skool low-top Vans. The more extreme clothes of choice would include horn-rimmed glasses, cardigan sweaters, dorky polo shirts, pants that are a bit too short and hair that is spiky or messy in the back with straight cut bangs.

Where It Started
Emo was born out of the ashes of the Hardcore punk band Minor Threat. They were a Straight Edge Punk band, meaning that they promoted clean living (no drugs, alcohol or sex combined with antiestablishment politics). When Minor Threat broke up in 1984, members formed other bands like Embrace, Rites Of Spring and later Fugazi, which were the first Emo bands. They still played hardcore punk music, but the lyrics were more expressive and emotional instead of being focused on politics and disenchanted youth (like most punk). Other early influences came from Husker Du and The Descendants and All.

How It Progressed
As time went on, bands began toning down the Hardcore aspect of the music, making it much more appealing to the average listener. Christie Front Drive infused pop sensibilities like catchy melodies and hooks into the music and kept the Emo style lyrics. This formula would prove to be very successful and influential. After the hype of Grunge died down in the mid 90s, artists like Sunny Day Real Estate burst from obscurity into the spotlight and became a blueprint for the style. Weezer took it a step further and created a Pop-Punk / Emo hybrid.

Today
Emo is one of the most widespread and hottest genres. Although it's moved far away from it's Hardcore beginnings, it still has it's independent spirit intact. That said, major record labels have taken notice and released albums by Jimmy Eat World, At The Drive-In and Weezer just to name a few, and many more are surely in the works. However, many newer bands are coming dangerously close to losing credibility by taking the music too far into the Pop/Punk realm of bands like Green Day or Blink-182.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. :) There's even a dress-code? ;)

Hmmm, this is still somewhat confusing but I think I get the picture. This is probably just one more label that the artists rebel against in vain. I'm not much into labelling music anyway.

Fugazi is considered an emo band?!?   They're one of my favorite bands, I saw them in concert 3 times, and unless sensitive means that sometimes they talk about feminist issues, I don't see how they fit that description. Their lyrics are still more social than emotional or confessional. They never stopped fighting agianst social injustices and making political songs. But anyway, I digress...

You're asking the wrong person :o:o But I will try.

And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead (commonly known as And You Will Know Us . . .) has gotten some airtime and good reviews here in the states.

At the Drive-In was enormously popular here, almost cult status. I believe they have since broken up, and to some it was like the end of Nirvana

Dashboard Confessional -- now I've heard good and bad things about this guy. He's very whiny to me, but he's quite popular in that John Mayer vein (I much prefer John Mayer). I think it's one of those love him or hate him kinda things.

I've heard of The Get Up Kids but don't know much about them :(

Jimmy Eat World -- DEFINITELY recommend them!! Kind of poppy, but lots of fun :) Had a few hits here in the states (finally) after a long time underground.

New Found Glory I've also heard of, and I believe they've been likened to Incubus.

Pretty Girls Make Graves played at my school earlier in the semester and were quite a hit. I didn't go to see them but they seemed to be very punk rock, from what I've heard.

Sunny Day Real Estate is also another cult-like popular group on the indie scene here in the states. Never heard anything by them, though, I don't believe.

Sounds like Vince has made quite a progress. :) I'm also against drugs, so I'm glad you found an alternative way to deal with it and it's working out the way it is. It's also refreshing that the school and the teacher are so cooperative. That's something we still need to learn over here.

I wish Vince (and your whole family of course) all the best. :)

I say we should go to Rome! I've never been to Rome and it's a beautiful city. Monte Carlo works for me too, especially since Juanqui is the defending champ. ;)

:) Hi Hackie and Layla!

Yeah MC s/be a good one -- the setting is spectacular too! What I liked about watching that tourney was that they played the Spanish anthem [for Juanqui and Carlos] and it had a nice "royal" theme to it being a principality! A nice extra! I w/go to that clay tournament if I could!

Gstaad is good for clay and the Spaniards AND Rogi and Mrs. B.!

Well, I'm not Lee but I'll try to clear up the confusion here.

Vince has been diagnosed with ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. He was previously diagnosed with a disease (don't remember the name :o) that was autistic in nature; that's when a person has a hard time communicating with the world. They are perfectly normal, developmentally, but for some reason the link between the internal world and the external world is severed, somewhere. It sounds like his was a very mild form of autism, but I'm not familiar with that particular form of it.

Anyway, the good news is, he's doing much better, finally being able to stay in regular classes for the whole day instead of splitting his time between regular and a special class for his attention disorder. She has successfully kept him off Ritalin :) and has found a lovely doctor and clinic for him :):) so more kudos to Lee for that! :)

Ok, now on to the PJ news.
Im not sure if someone is still interested, but if not, just dont mind me. ;)

Pearl Jam is now hosting their third out of four tour opening shows in Seattle-WA. They are playing the first at the Key Arena, where they play again tomorrow night.
They played at the Showbox on Dec 5 and 6.
I have the first two show´s setlists and some little tidbits of the action, and a link to a song recorded there. The last encore, All or None, played on Dec. 5. The quality is not good, and we´re all still waiting for the better versions to come out and we can download to make our cds. :p

Ill post the info following. And maybe some quotes, but Im really not sure if someone is still enjoying it. As I said before, let me know when Im exaggerating. :o

Pearl Jam

First of all, it was announced that their new single for the radios is my fave song, Save You. :bounce: Rocking!
It opens on Dec 10 on US radios, for what I understood.

Second, an Australian Music Videos show, called Rage, apparently had a one hour and half special of PJ videos, showing some very good classics (Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog, Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, Oceans, Go, Animal, RVM, Not for you, Last Exit/Spin the Black Circle, Hail Hail, Do the evolution) and a Riot Act special, including interviews, songs and the videos of I am Mine, Love Boat Captain and 1/2 Full).

Damn, why did it have to happen so far away from here???
Anyway, I wonder if someone got to see that somewhere in the world... :p

Now to the shows...

The first Showbox one, Dec. 5

Sound check: Blood, You Are, Save You, Cant Keep, I am Mine, Down (!!)

Set List: Can't Keep, Save You, Get Right, Green Disease, Grievance, Cropduster, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, 1/2 Full, Nothing As It Seems, You Are, Given To Fly, Insignificance, Blood

Encore: Last Kiss, Wishlist, Black, Down, Do The Evolution

Encore 2: All or None (theres an audio link http://www.theskyiscrape.com/LiveLegalmp3s/12-05-02_AllOrNone.mp3 )

NOTES and Comments:
- Ed introduced Boom to a round of "booooooms" from the audience. Said part of the proceeds were going towards building a children's park in Hawaii.
- Lyrical change in Do The Evolution: "why, because I'm republican baby"
- Ed royally flubs the lyrics to All or None (he simply blanks) and says, "you paid 36 dollars to watch us practice"

Second Showbox show, Dec 6

Soundcheck: Thumbing My Way, Daughter, Elderly Woman, Off He Goes, Ghost x2, Rearviewmirror, Last Exit, Bu$hleaguer, Don't Believe in Christmas (The Sonics) x 2

Setlist: Elderly Woman, Off He Goes, Thumbing My Way, Thin Air, Breakerfall, Green Disease, Corduroy, Save You, Ghost, Cropduster, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Gods' Dice, 1/2 Full, Daughter/War (Edwin Starr), You Are, Rearviewmirror

Encore: Bu$hleaguer, Insignificance, Better Man, Do The Evolution, Yellow Ledbetter

Encore 2: Soon Forget, Don't Believe in Christmas (The Sonics)

NOTES and Comments:
- Bu$hleaguer featured Ed in a Bush mask; Do the Evolution - Ed in a Bill Gates mask.
- Ed used a uke tonight for Soon Forget that was in the shape of a telecaster ;) Apparently someone gave it to him.
- War, the Daughter Tag, ("war... what is it good for... absolutely nothing") was very intense, followed up by a "fuck"-filled anti-war rant.
- Ed talked about his neighbors being there... and apologized for his three dogs shitting in their yard.
- Nothingman was written and crossed out on the setlist, and not played either.
- A wonderful performance by the boys

When Vince was 5 years old, he went through a battery of tests with developmental pediatrian, psychiatrist, speech language pathologist and also testing on hearing and his eyesight. My hubby and I also answered numerous questionnaire. Three months later, the team concluded he has Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD.

TH has described ADHD and it's easier to understand. We have a very, very active kid who cannot maintain his attention for more than 5 seconds on things not interested him.

Asperger's Syndrome is a very new found condition (I don't want to say disease as it's not but I can't find a better word). It's in the 90's that the American Medical Assoc. (something like that) set out a number of guidelines to how to define the syndrome. For Vince's case, he has communication problem in the social skill area. He is about 7 but his social skill is at about 4 which make him very difficult to make friends at his own age. His cognitive ability is higher than his normal age. When he was tested at 5, his cognitive power is about 7-8 years old. This is very common for autistic children as there IQ is usually higher than normal children. He is also very obssessive with cars. He can can talked nonstop about them. He knew all the makes and models of car on the market. When he was about 6 and we were driving on a highway, a car next to us and I asked him what's that car. He took a brief look and said it's a Mazda protege and he was right on. I still don't know how he knew.

To make everyone easier to understand what's Asperger's syndrome, let me introduce 2 very famous ppl whom lots of psychiatrist suspect having the syndrome. They are Einstein and Bill Gates.

Aha! ;) That's why I'd never heard of this condition before (sorry about calling it a disease :o). It sounds very interesting!! So, it's basically features of autism, plus this speciality in one area (for him, cars)? Very interesting . . .

And hey, I guess I wasn't too far off the mark when I said he'd be a master photographer, eh? ;) Famous and creative people often have irregular functioning.

Basically, they just think in a different way than we do. It's like when a group of people try to solve a problem, most of them will approach and solve the problem in one way but one or two of them will approach at a totally different angle but with unexpected success.

One reason I talked about Vince's condition is I hope whoever know about Asperger's syndrome can recognise other kids with the same problem. As I said, we are lucky that Vincent was diagnosed early. The last 2 years was actually easier than the time between Vince's was 2 to his diagnosis. At least we know what we are facing and what we can and can't do.

The reason of Vince's early diagnosis is because his pediatrician is also a family friend and he's able to observe his behaviour other than in his office. Otherwise, we may still be struggling and feeling helpless. I know there are lots of children and their parents are struggling with the same problem. If you have friends or relatives with very difficult children, encourage them to talk to their kids doctors and if the doctors were not listening, find another one.

Thanks for all the fabulous info on Pearl Jam. :) It's great to see them touring again. And LMAO and more Eddie quotes. I would have loved to hear his anti-war rant as well. I would have been really surprised if he didn't bring that subject up.

And don't worry, you're not going overboard with the PJ stuff. We love it and we want more! :hearts: Well, I know that TH and I love it for sure, can't vouch for the others. And I've sort of gone overboard with Weezer myself. :o ;) And speaking of Weezer, check this out. ;) http://www.weezerisland.com/comic1.jpg LMAO!

Hi Layla! :wavey;

Lol, ok Ill keep going then. If you declare you and TH like, I would just like to know if the others dont mind... ;)

Damn, someone on the Synergy message board said that we would get all the songs on mp3, but I still refure to believe. Id be too disappointed if it didnt happen. I read some reviews on the shows, and people loved em, especially last night´s one.
Mike smashed his guitar after playing Blood. :bounce:

And the Weezer special is not today. pffff @ me. I messed it all. Its tomorrow, at 7:30 pm. It seems like its about one of their tours. Ill tell you more when it goes to the air. :D

Yep, Pushing Tin it is.
And yeah again, Angelina Jolie is in it. :D:D
I like Cusack too. High Fidelity is among my fave films. You know I have this problem on movies involving music... :o :p

Its a computer game. I bought it yesterday. You play with Frodo, then Aragorn, then Gandalf. Its the plot of the Fellowship of the Ring.
Its really good, but I still suck in it. Couldnt handle to get away from the Dark Knights once.
Anyway... :o

Oh sure, Ill call my pal Guga and warn him he is commited to Kitzbuhel already. ;)

Just let me know, the plans are for this year thats coming or the next? :p

Oooh, I see hitman made an early appearance! :) That's pleasing and surprising. Sounds like PJ put on yet another awesome show :D so thanks for sharing that with us.

No, it was not a good thing I was here so early. I woke up with allergies, and had to call the drug store to bring some medicine. Thats why I was up. Im better now, though. :)

I just wrote that the Weezer special is tomorrow, not today. I messed it all while reading the paper on Saturday night. :p

Ok, so it's already stopped snowing by now, but there were real snowflakes out there when I woke up. :hearts: It did get considerably colder, so that's a good sign.

SNOW SNOW SNOW

Oh! How I miss them! Hubby and I were talking about where to go during Christmas break, now I am sure I want to go to the mountain.

You have a very special son, Lee. :) And he is a lucky boy for being raised in such a loving family. :) That makes all the difference in the world and is the main reason he's making such a progress. I just want to join others in admiration for everything you and your husband have done for him. It takes immense courage to fight against the pressure to put him on Ritalin.

Thanks Layla!

I'm used to these long haul flights but it's boring sometimes. We're flying Singapore Airlines and from ZRH to SIN it's about 12 hours. Then onwards to Cebu it's 3 hours & 40 minutes. Well they got loads of films, and computer games, (and music channels) and you get your own little monitor in front so could choose what you want...I'm also looking forward to stopping off in Singapore, i'd like to buy a new tennis racket at the duty free shop! :)

gotta go, bath's getting cold. catch u all later!

That's the one so far. The site is a Chinese web site I found during TMC Shanghai where I got lots of pix for Moya, Juanqui and Rogi. Do you want pic of other soccer teams?

It's not quite possible for you to find the pix there since all index are in Chinese and there is no grouping for a particular sport.

:) Hi guys!

It's almost lunch but I've been working... ILR, did you see the links I posted in the Rogi forum to a couple of pix? I would vote for him for the Swiss awards if I could!

There's a light dusting of snow here glistening in the sun!! So what's on football-wise this week?

I still have a bigger Christmas tree in a box somewhere too -- if I have time I'll put it up.

Lee, what does your son want for Christmas? Does he ask for anything in particular?

I couldn't stand long flights... 8 hours is enough for me flying over the Atlantic... Mrs. B. Singapore looks interesting and clean! ;)

ILR

Hi RF :wavey:

yes I did see your links :) very nice. And football wise this week we have Arsenal v Valencia and Man Utd v Deportivo,Newcastle v Barcelona and Liverpool v Vitesse,I dont know about you,but that doesnt sound to bad to me ;) Well the longest flight I have been on was to Canada which was 7 or 8 hours I think

RogiFan
12-09-2002, 04:08 PM
:) Lee, if you ever find pix of Juanqui or Rogi in this site, pls post for us! ;)

ILR, are there many Brit players on non-Brit football teams? like in Real Madrid or FC Barca or Valencia? Just wondering...

Mrs. B
12-09-2002, 04:11 PM
Hi RF :wavey:

Singapore is way too clean! But the shopping is great. It's actually more a stopover than getting out and going to the city. But Changi airport is one of the best in the world and the shops there are great. ;)

ILR
12-09-2002, 04:11 PM
No,not really the only one I can think of is Steve Mcmanaman ex-Liverpool now at Real Madrid. And Owen Hargreaves at Bayern Munich. He is Welsh I think with an English mother who was brought up in Canada and lives in Germany so he could be any of those!:p

:) Oh yeah, I think I know that Owen guy -- they talk about him on the sports news here! I think it's neat how the FC Barca manager(?) is it van Gaal or sth? speaks Spanish now -- sounds funny w his Dutch accent but he has to learn the lingo. Also I like Zizou's Spanish too! I want to hear an Englishman speak another language!! That w/be cool!

ILR
12-09-2002, 04:26 PM
wow Zizou is god!:) he is so skilfull :D I dont think you'll hear many english people talk a different language, maybe Steve McManaman he sounds so funny,he is a scouser talking Spanish!heh heh quite amusing.Just to remind you of Owen H

A remote control PT Cruiser but I'm very reluctant to get one because usually the car will be broken in about a week.

US is a much more material country than Canada. I can't imagine all those Christmas catalogue in my mail box everyday and Vince of course check everyone of them. He is earning his 'stars' with good behavior now for his Christmas presents.

Well, it was just pleasing and surprising to me that you were up before me :) But that sucks about allergies. I had an attack a few weeks ago and I couldn't breathe :( so I definitely know where you're coming from.

Glad you're feeling better though :) And the best part about allergies is you can still give hugs and not fear catching the germs :) *hug*
