shit happens. Thank God it doesn't happen everyday. i was thinking more about Youzhny's match yesterday than white sand beaches, to be honest. But the funny thing was that after making some rice noodles which i shared with my neighbor's children, the rest of what was in the pan fell to my kitchen floor! The handle slipped. LMAO!!! Well, they say bad luck comes in 3s. :D

Not So Serious Rivers Cuomo

Weezer frontman talks drugs, sumo wrestlers and Dungeons and Dragons

June 7, 2001

New York, NY -- Is Rivers Cuomo actually a geek, or does he just play one on record? Consider this: At age thirty, he still indulges with his band mates in the occasional game of Dungeons and Dragons on tour. Their Web master, Karl Koch, is also their Dungeon Master. After their 1994 debut sold more than 2 million copies and their 1996 followup, Pinkerton, tanked ("I think Rolling Stone voted it the second-worst record of the year," deadpans Cuomo), a long period of artistic hibernation set in. Side projects and breakup rumors proliferated. But following a rejuvenating stint on last year's Vans Warped Tour, Weezer are back with a release they refer to as the Green Album, ten Ric Ocasek-produced tracks clocking in at just under thirty minutes and jampacked with hooks, high harmonies and hand claps. The first single is called "Hashpipe" - as you will see, Rivers Cuomo is a man who takes his drugs seriously.

You guys just got back from a tour of Japan. How'd that go?

It was a complete and total disaster. I'm no longer on speaking terms with the Japanese record company. I fell in love with a woman who works there, and because of their feudal policies, they wouldn't let us see each other or talk to each other, and I totally lost my mind, spazzed out and said a lot of things I probably shouldn't have. Now it's like World War III between Weezer and Japan.

Shit. And you guys had to come off that and head straight to the Coachella Festival, right?

Yeah. Honestly, I'm so happy to be back in the USA. . . . and Coachella was beautiful. Very few drugs there, though.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

It's a terrible thing! I was so disappointed. I mean, I fully expected that to be the totally decadent event, and it was really lame, older Dave Matthews Band-style fans. And no drugs at all! It's insane.

In the audience or backstage or both?

Anywhere! I mean, it's a Jane's Addiction show! You'd expect somebody to be smoking some pot or something, but everyone was drinking bottled water.

Given that your best songs are about the classic-rock song subject matter "Boy wants girl," I was wondering who your celebrity crushes were.

What the hell is that woman's name? Maria Bartolomo, something like that? She's one of those people who talks from the New York Stock Exchange on CNBC. She's hot. Connie Chung . . .

Connie Chung?

I like newscasters. They're just so composed and graceful and articulate and classy.

Once you become a rock star, is it suddenly easier to meet girls?

No, you're basically in the same exact position you always were. If you couldn't talk to girls before, you're not gonna be able to talk to them after you become a rock star, either. It's just more painful, 'cause you think, "Man, if I can't get chicks now, I'm a totally lost cause." :p

What's the video for "Hashpipe" like?

We're in a sumo ring, and there's a troupe of sumo wrestlers. Eventually they take our instruments and start playing the song. They look especially large standing next to me, because I'm very small. They have huge tits. We heard T&A videos were big, so this is our version of a T&A video. There's some serious ass shots that you won't believe.

Here's the "How important is it to you that this record do well?" question.

We're doing really well now, without having put out an album in years, so I think if we just cruise along at this level, we'll all be happy. The one thing I'm afraid of is that the album comes out and everyone hates it and abandons us. That would suck.

Was the quote-unquote failure of Pinkerton made all the more painful because you'd put so much of yourself into the lyrics?

Yeah, I felt really burned. After we put out the first record, it seemed like a lot of the fans were really interested in me and were encouraging me to expose myself more, so that's what I did on the second record, and everybody hated it. I was really embarrassed.

Do you get tired of the geek-rock tag? Is it like, "Christ, I wrote one lyric about the X-Men, and now I have to answer to this for the rest of my life?"

No, actually. It used to really piss me off, but that was 'cause when we first came out, I had the wrong impression of what we actually were. I mean, I thought of us as this dreadfully serious, important rock band, and I thought that for once in my life I had finally overcome my geeky self. And as soon as the spotlight hit us, everyone said, "Hey, they're a bunch of geeks," and it felt really disappointing: "Wow, I'm finally a star, but I'm just a bigger geek than ever. More people are aware of how geeky I am." I don't know, it doesn't bother me anymore.

Oh, good. 'Cause as a Weezer fan who's done his share of time with twenty-sided dice, I wanted to ask you what kind of characters you played in Dungeons and Dragons.

I gravitated toward the, uh . . . elven, or half-elven, something with high dexterity . . . a fighter-thief, maybe?

You went split class?

Yeah.

Bold move.

Hey, it's tough to commit.

It doesnt seem like Pat is coming back.
Someone posted this on tennisweek´s board

Rafter wrestling with comeback
By John Thirsk
27nov02A

CONTENTED Pat Rafter is close to settling his playing future once and for all ... and it's looking increasingly likely the former champion will retire happy with his achievements.

Blithely settled in northern Sydney with partner Lara Feltham and son Joshua, Rafter acknowledges it will be a massive commitment to pick up a racquet again and be competitive.

And the stumbling block could well be his current joyful state of mind. Those who know Rafter well say he has rarely been happier. He has seen the other side of the net - and he likes it.

"I'll be making my decision very soon and when I do, there will be no turning back," Rafter said at this week's Starlight Cup charity event at the Sydney International Tennis Centre.

"I won't be changing my mind after I make this decision."

Many tennis fans would love the charismatic 29-year-old to have one more crack at winning a Wimbledon championship after reaching two successive finals and also to team up with the red-hot Lleyton Hewitt for Australia in Davis Cup.

Rafter admits chasing a Davis Cup trophy is "unfinished business" and a great lure for a comeback.

But whether he has the desire to continue in international tennis will be the deciding factor.

"If my desire is there (to come back), I know Lara will definitely support me," he said. "Time has really flown. I scratch my head sometimes and realise I haven't done a hell of a lot this year.

"But I've enjoyed my time and needed to break away from the game."

Fatherhood has given Rafter a new perspective on life. "Time at home with the little fellow has been a lot of fun. These are days I'll never forget," he said.

"It's been good to get another perspective on life other than tennis.

"Sometimes when you're playing tennis, all your focus is just on your sport and it has to be that way to play your best.

"But there's a lot more to life than just tennis and I always knew that.

"Having a family definitely gives you a different perspective and it's a change of priorities I've really enjoyed."

After years of non-stop travelling, flash hotels and the glitz and glamour, every day activities such as shopping in the supermarket and walking near his new Mosman home are giving Rafter a great deal of pleasure.

"We've settled in well and Sydney is a great place and we are in a great location close to the city."

Rafter said he was currently weighing up the pros and cons of a comeback after a 12-month layoff from tournament play.

"It'll mean a lot of hard work and a lot of training would have to be match toughness," he said.

"Hitting the ball, well, I don't think it takes that long to get that part of your game back.

"The thing is getting back into tournament play and dealing with big-match temperament."

Rafter will consult his long-time coach Tony Roche before announcing his decision.

But even Roche acknowledges his former star is enjoying life away from the tennis spotlight. "He's having a good time," Roche said.

The Starlight Foundation, in its 14th year, has raised almost $4m for children's charities.

He is happy, though, so thats the main thing

The word mourning is correct.

Again, I want to say it's so sad for a young life wasted. In my city last Saturday morning, a car hit the canal and a 17 yr old drowned in the car too. To make this more tragic, his 15 yr old brother got out but could not save his brother.

LOL!
Yeah to the geeks! :D

I posted some more Eddie quotes on the PJ thread down there at WTAWORLD, but Ill put them here as well. ;)

number two

And this last one made me go LMAO!
Lian Galagher fans, DO NOT READ THIS. lol

From Adelaide, 1998

Just before 'Habit,' Ed starts singing "Lemonade ... Powerade ... Adelaide," and everyone cheers. After 'Habit,' Ed has a very tongue-in-cheek chat about Oasis: "So I just wanna state for the record that ... ah ... I don't know if I'm speaking for everybody but ... we love Liam Gallager. I mean honestly ... I'll tell you what. I was walking around last night and I ended up playing pool with a couple of you, you're out there I know. Had a great time ... had quite few of those things--Coopers (or) whatever they are--Onya, mate! And it was just going great. I was making friends left and right ... then I was getting free beer, it was just quite a night. But then some asshole asked me for ah to take a picture ... and I just headbutted the fucker right in the head ... and it felt fucking great GREAT. It was awesome ... I tell ya ... it's pretty cool this rock star thing ... I like it a lot."

He's talking about Liam Gallagher who had headbutted a fan after he asked for his picture.

And the last one, number three, is one of the best I ever read. :D

"Its good to know that our elected officials are
really looking after what is important.....and I'm
glad to know that I read in the paper the other day
that they are once again concerned about flag burning.
I mean after all there is nothing that pisses me off
more than walking down the street and seeing flags
burning everywhere. Flags burning here, flags burning
there....who gives a fuck if the oceans are going to
shit and the water is no longer clean! People are
burning flags after all. Save the flags! Save the
flags"

What the fuck is this world running to?
You didn't leave a message at least I coulda' learned your voice one last time.
Daily minefield this could be my time by you.
Would you hit me? (x2)
Ohh. Whoa oww.

All the bills go by and initiatives are taken up.
By the middle. There ain't gonna be any middle any more.
And the cross I'm bearing home ain't indicative of my place.
Left the porch. (x2)

Oh. Hear my name. Take a good look. This could be the day.
Hold my hand. Walk beside me. I just need to say.

Uh huh. Uh huh yeah uh huh. Uh huh yeah uh huh.

Oh, hear my name. Take a good look. This could be the day.
Hold my hand. Lie beside me. I just need to say.
I could not take a-just one day I know when I would not ever touch you, hold you, feel you in my arms.
Never again.
Yeah. (x12)

A few interesting details

B. Yeltsin used to team up with Tarpischev to play doubles :) . They showed them shaking hands with another *senior* players at the net

Dinara looks much better in casual clothes than in tennis clothes. She's so cute and such a lovely girl :)

They also showed Dinara's and Marat's parents. His mother said she's very happy to be in Paris and to be able to support Marat and hug him :)

His father said there is so much fuss around Marat and Dinara and everybody just cares about their results, but he sees all the hard daily work and blood on Dinara's feet after training and how she is tired

The tribute was payed to Zhenia. Although he was not the hero of this final, he led Russia to this sensational win for almost a decade. They showed his matchpoint in Sydney :)

Misha is really shy. The reporters were waiting for him in the airport but he just answered 1 question and ran away:
Q: Have you dedicated your victory to somebody?
Misha: To my Dad

They finished it with official award ceremony and then played "We Are The Champions" showing Misha play and throw the ball into the crowd.

I dropped a tear :) a few tears, actually ;)

I would have cried, too. Misha sounds so sweet, poor him--not quite ready for the spotlight he's been thrust into. And a special tribute the Zhenya--oh! That definitely would have brought tears to my eyes.

Did you visit the Weezer at Rolling Stone page I put with the article I posted on WTAWorld? It's an archive of all of the stuff Rolling Stone has done on them. There were also links to music videos, including Keep Fishin'. I <3 the Muppets, too :) He was soooooo adorable in that video :sigh:

Of course I don't mind sharing him with you. :) You did introduce me to his charms after all, for which I'm eternally grateful. That pic is indeed great but like I said, I found many great pics but all of them were either on tripod or angelfire or whatever those hosts are. His eyes are so beautiful and wonderfully warm, especially on the pic that I proclaimed as my favorite.

I did check out the Rolling Stone site and they're doing a wonderful job over there. Their feature articles are usually terrific as well. But I was a bit disappointment in their choice of pics and those videos are only extracts (at least the ones I tried). They have all their videos (full-length) on Weezer's official site. :) Yeah the Muppets are great. :D And I just can't get enough of the Island in the Sun video. I'm a sucker for animals. :o And the video really is great, it was directed by Spike Jonze. Not to mention that Rivers kisses that cute monkey. So cute. And the bear is all over him. Talking about Liam Gallagher...

Oasis Wild-Man Gallagher Loses Teeth in Club Brawl
By Ulf Laessing

MUNICH, Germany (Reuters) - Liam Gallagher (news), wild-man vocalist of British rock band Oasis detained after a brawl in a five-star Munich hotel at the weekend, has been freed from jail after posting bail of more than $100,000, police said Monday.

A Munich police source told Reuters Gallagher was released Sunday after his management team came up with the bail. He faces charges of grievous bodily assault and resisting arrest for beating a number of people, including a police officer.

"The Oasis management had to come up with a six-figure sum to have the guys released," the police source said.

Gallagher, 30, lost several teeth in the punch-out, the latest in a string of misadventures for the singer, noted for reviving Britain's tradition of rock 'n' roll.

"The boy didn't look good, several of his teeth were punched out," said Munich police spokesman Christoph Reichenbach.

He said Gallagher and two other band members had got into a fight with some Italians in a nightclub at Munich's top hotel, the Bayerischer Hof, at around 2 a.m. Sunday. Liam's brother Noel was not involved.

The hotel was built in 1840 by Bavaria's King Ludwig I and was popular with 19th-century royalty.

Munich's state prosecutor Anton Winkler said the bail could be used as a fine if Gallagher is convicted.

"It is possible the bail could be kept as a fine if the investigation leads to a conviction," Winkler told Reuters. "The police are still investigating."

Gallagher's spokeswoman said he would be spending much of Monday in a dentist's chair, while a German promoter said a Hamburg gig planned for Monday night had been canceled.

It was unclear what would happen with Oasis concerts set for Dec. 4 in Duesseldorf and Dec. 5 in Bremen.

'KICKED IN RIBS'

Officers arrived at the scene after being alerted by the nightclub manager, by which time the fight had moved into the hotel foyer. When Liam was detained he kicked a police officer in the ribs "with full force," Reichenbach said.

"According to witness statements, the band members first argued among themselves," he added. "Then they started hitting each other and were shoving each other around in the nightclub.

"In the midst of all of this one of the musicians fell on a table at which a group of five to six Italians were sitting ... A brawl ensued -- band members and their security guards attacked other guests in the club."

The band's Web site said they were innocent victims.

"Several members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club," it said, adding that Gallagher had "sustained facial injuries" in the assault.

The band said their attackers fled before police arrived, having left two of their security guards in need of hospital treatment.

The Gallagher brothers were as famous for their hell-raising in the early 1990s as for their Beatles-influenced sound, but lately marriage and children appeared to have mellowed them.

Oasis was formed by Liam Gallagher in his native Manchester, in northern England, in 1991. Three years later, they released their debut album "Definitely Maybe," billed as the fastest-selling debut in British history.

In April, they released their first single in nearly two years, "Hindu Times," and in July released a fifth album "Heathen Chemistry."

Hackie, you can always think of me and my whereabouts in the next few days and i hope you'll feel warmer...

:D

Not that cold according to my standard. The worst I ever had in Calgary is -40C with wind chill of -70C.

The weather is not that great in Scottsdale too. It's been cloudy and in the morning is close to freezing again. Since I was spoiled with all those sunny days here for the last few months, I really hate the clouds.

I saw a documentary on Gallagher brothers before and I think it mentioned their childhood was a real mess and their relationship with their father is very bad. I guess this contributes to the erratic behaviour and also the music.

It's great that there is something to look forward to.

I have been thinking about a long holidays but with a 7 years old, there is not much I can do. I still not feeling comfortable leaving him with relatives even for a week. My hubby and I only have weekend getaway once in awhile since Vince was born or we take him with us.

Hi Lee and Mrs. B :wavey:

Just dropping by very quickly to tell Lee that Flames fired their head coach Greg Gilbert, and an assistant. No replacement announced yet. They are playing the Avs in Colorado (wonder if Aebreisher will play, Roy's been injured lately). I hope they beat the Avs, Avs' been having a very tough time winning at home :D. I am indifferent to the Flames (since we are in the same division), but I hate the Avs and I like to support other Canadian teams, even the Leafs sometimes (bcos they have my fave player:D). (just curious, does everyone in the West hates Maple Leafs?)

Well, anyway, gotta go. Later guys :wavey:

Well, he's already 7 so it's not much hassle travelwise. We have some friends from Germany who go to the Philippines every year. They have a 4 year old girl. Even when she was a toddller they were already travelling. But she seems to like the beach a lot and she knows the same kids so it's like a second home for her...the only funny thing about it is that the parents don't go out together at night as they take turns who stays with her when she's in bed...:)

There is no problem travelling with him. He's an angel even we had long driving trips. It's just that you must go to places which are family friendly.

Mrs. B
12-03-2002, 06:23 PM
Right. Well i'm sure there's loads of nice friendly places to choose from. But to me, America seems so huge and the driving is so long. We once drove from NYC to NJ then to upstate NY then to the Niagara Falls. It's almost like covering several countries in Europe! :D Had we drove down to New Orleans the trip would have been even longer!

I have to make dinner and do some ironing (i'm the Iron Lady! )

Well, it has gotten a bit warmer, but it's still frigid. And believe me, I'm really starting to envy you and your tropicalia.

And of course, it would be the time for our heat to break down. I've been complaning about the heat for months now, but the heat in the building has been turned down, and we can't control the heat in our room--it's either Calcutta in July or Alaska in January, those are our only options :(

Two more weeks and I'll be on break again . . . I can't wait myself!

Wow, ILR, sounds like Christmas at your house is fun :) This year I'll be settling in with tons of back tennis tapes to watch, but I'm sure my holiday will be quiet, as is usual with my family. We don't have relatives within the state anymore, so it's just us.

Hello folks! :wavey:

I've come to bid you goodnight , for the hour is late and my eyes are a-drooping.

Maybe I can finally get a good nights sleep. I've done tons of work today so I'm quite proud of myself. ;)

Hmmm, I don't really celebrate Christmas. :o The communist countries have always emphasized New Year's over Christmas, which is when we give each other presents anyway. Christmas has become hugely popular recently, but only in its commercial form of shopping for useless gifts, while the real meaning of Christmas which is the gathering of family members has been completely neglected. Besides, my family has lost touch with most of the relatives. My parents are just not a very sociable bunch.

I will celebrate the winter solstice though. :p

I found this really interesting. We had a big to-do about it in Russian earlier this year, and I just thought it was interesting that New Year's is the big holiday there, not Christmas (especially since the Orthodox Church is still alive and well). We had to write an essay about what we do for New Years', and I do even less for New Year's than for Christmas so I didn't get a good grade on that one :o Oh, well.

Sweet dreams, Layla! Happy thoughts of Rivers abound ;)

Lol, I haven't really said good night yet. I never waved. ;)

The Orthodox Church observes a different calendar, so their Christmas is around the 6th of January I think. I know that because my uncle (well, my aunt's husband) was a Serb, and they always celebrated the New Year's on my birthday, January 13.

I'm hopeless when it comes to spending New Year's in an even mildly interesting way as well. I've had my share of wonderful New Year's celebrations, usually involving my longing for one boy or another ;) and the presence of said boy, even though my feelings were never returned. Still, it was enough for me to spend New Year's in his company to make it magical. :hearts:

Last year I had a really good one because I spent it with my best friend and her husband who are now in Scotland. We knew it would be our last New Year's together, so we had a wonderful time. This year I'm all alone, so I was seriously considering going to a rave and dancing my ass off. I've never been to one of those but I've often had the urge to check them out and what better time for that than New Year's. It beats spending it at home watching tv, that's for sure. ;)

Speaking of Rivers, I looooove MTV (well I do at this moment) because they just showed the Muppet video and I melted when I saw Rivers' half-suppressed smiles. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: I know what I'll be dreaming of tonight. ;)

LOL, well I need to leave and do some work, but I don't want to! :( So I'll stay a bit longer :)

Yes, someone else mentioned that the Orthodox Church has a separate calendar. In Methodism (my religious choice), January 6th is Epiphany, or the day we believe the Wise Men actually found the baby Jesus, so I guess we're derived from that different calendar as well.

I'm just not a party person, so I'm perfectly content doing nothing on New Year's.

I'm not much of a party person either. I do like going to parties sometimes, because I want to meet new people (*cough* men), but I usually feel awkward and self-conscious. I usually find myself in a remote corner chatting away with a like-minded person. I don't like speaking to groups. But I do love to dance though, and if the mood is just right, I can even relax to a certain extent and forget about my self-consciousness. That's why I want to go to a rave. They're anonymous, no one needs to notice you and you don't look ridiculous if you're at a party alone with no one to talk to.

Ok, I don't love MTV anymore. They're showing Britney Spears.

Right, now you can go back to work TH. ;) Because I really to have to go to bed.

You're right, Leo :) Layla has discovered the beauty that is Rivers Cuomo, who is the lead singer of Weezer.

My day has been just peachy. Relatively easy as the semester is winding down. The big work won't come until a bit later in the week, so right now I'm kind of floating on that bubble between my break and work.

And you?

Sweet dreams, Layla! Happy thoughts of Rivers abound ;)

I have a major problem that I dont know where to go in New Year´s eve. Im totally not into being at home with family (we will do for Christmas), and I hate club parties. :p

You should start from Live on Two Legs. Thats probably the best normal-circuit records from them. Its their one live album receorded through Epic.
Then, Riot Act is a great buy. Its really good, and its starting the grunge fever all over again. :D
And then if you want something a little bit more "specific", try one of the 72 bootlegs. ;) That would be a long talk to decide which one, though. :p
