Where is everyone? I feel lonely in here. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/frown_2.gif

Vera, thank you for the pic of the kitten. It is sooooo adorable. Unfortunately I didn't see it before I went to sleep. Needless to say, I didn't sleep at all well last night. ;)

Yeah, I liked Addicted to Love. It was a different type of romantic comedy, quite a refreshing view of human obsessions, which are especially strong when it comes to love and relationships.

And speaking of Dying Young (and Campbell Scott), I really loved Singles. It was funny and romantic and it had the greatest music... Cameron Crowe is one of my fave directors. Almost famous doesn't really count as a romantic movie, but it could. It blew me away and made me cry, but then I often cry watching movies. And another one of my faves, although it concerns teenagers not adults, is by the same director. It's called Say Anything and stars John Cusack and Ione Skye. A very warm, funny and touching movie about coming of age.

Another movie I left out was City of Angels. The original German movie called Wings of Desire is hands down my favorite movie of all times. The remake is of course completely different, but it never pretends to reach the heights of the original. It's a movie in its own right. Nicolas Cage is so angelic in that movie and Meg Ryan at her cutest is the perfect reason to become mortal.

Hey, I'm here. Glad you like the kitten. It is really sweet looking, isn't it.

Can I post a JC pic here? Is it against the rule? Just that it's equally sweet

Hi :wavey:

You just caught me logging off and going to sleep, which will be a much more pleasant experience than yesterday, I'm sure.

I believe the rule states you cannot post a pic here without drooling all over it and that kind of takes care of itself, don't you think? Let me do the drooling bit:

OMG, THIS PIC IS TO DIE FOR! JUANQUI AT HIS MOST ADORABLE! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

It's true. I've never seen this pic before, but I love to see him smile. He doesn't do that nearly often enough.

Good night. Thanks for the sweet dreams. ;)

I watched English Patient last night, for the nth times. I love this movie, it makes me sad every time I watched. The love is so intense, I think. And it's such a beautiful movie. The other one I like "The End of an Affair". Okay, another Fiennes movies, can you not love him? But "The End of An Affair" also has a very interesting plot. City of Angel is so sad but so lovely at the same time. I guess I like love story to be more than just plain and simple. Cos love and life is never simple, so my fav are mostly end sadly but then the love described are usually quite intense and eternal.

Though I also like some lighthearted one like: Four Weddings and a Funeral, My best friend's wedding and "The Very thought of you". The latter is called something else in England, starring, well, Joe Fiennes. He is way too adorable.

By the way, is it okay to chat about movie in this thread? Is it the rule that we can talk about anything as long as it's not about tennis and JC? I just want to make sure I'm not violating any rules. :)

Vera
08-25-2002, 11:23 PM
And ya, this JC pic is one of my fav. Cos he looks shy and sweet (though you can't really see his face, but you can feel how sweet he is).

I think he doesn't smile too often because he's too sweet looking when smiling    too lethal a smile that is, that doesn't go well with his lethal forehand, and killer backhand.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Cliff: A warm welcome to Tennis Masters Series Canada, men's semifinal day. Today's featured match: Juan Carlos Ferrero vs Alex Corretja.

PMac: That's right, Cliff. Right on schedule, these two have met in one of the most exciting semifinal battles since the '97 final, where great American Chris Woodruff defeated a red-hot Guga Kuerten.

Cliff: Perhaps just as interesting as the on-court story is the off-court story surrounding these two players.

PMac: Indeed. It all started Wednesday, when Ferrero was fined for not speaking to the press about his wife's erratic behavior. Since then, Layla Ferrero (same horrible picture as before) has been seen watching Alex Corretja's matches, and Ferrero has been seen in the company of another young lady himself.

Cliff: Patrick, how do you think the players will react to each other on court, both knowing it's their personal lives, not their tennis, that is grabbing headlines?

PMac: The Spaniards have never really been showy on court, Cliff, and if anything, I think they will be even scappier today, to show everyone their game is more important than their love lives.

Cliff: Speaking of Spaniards, Patrick, Carlos Moya, not surprisingly, is playing in the other semifinal. He's playing against Jarkko Nieminen, the hot young Finn.

PMac: Amazing, isn't it, Cliff? No Americans left in Canada.

Cliff: Do you think Moya can handle the heavy-handed Finnish player?

PMac: Well, Cliff, Nieminen has posted some really good results this year, defeating Roddick, Sampras, and Agassi on hard courts and clay. He picked up another title on clay this year, in Estoril. He's also one of the few players who can translate his game to grass, making the 4th round of Wimbledon this year--that amazing match where he ousted Lleyton Hewitt after 5 previous losses.

Cliff: Moya has never played Nieminen. Do you think he will get a handle on his game early, or will it take him a set?

PMac: If Moya can get an early break, he should win this match comfortably.

Cliff: Ferrero & Corretja have just walked out on court. We'll return after this break.

OMG, what's gonna happen next. I guess we'll have to be patiently wait...

Are you sure you'll free on Tues? Schedule comes out and JC is playing on Tuesday! You think they'll have mercy, showing him on TV, maybe just a shot or 2. I'll be happy just to see his face.

Yes, don't worry about the rules Vera, it was just a joke. You can talk about whatever you want, including tennis and JC. :)

There's a movie called The Very Thought of You starring Joe Feinnes? I've never heard of it. Is it a new one or quite old?

I loved Four Weddings and a Funeral but to me, the romance between the main characters didn't work, cause imo Hugh Grant and Andie McDowell weren't a great match. I would prefer to see some other actress in that role. I mean I like Andie, but there was just no chemistry between them. Kristin Scott Thomas' character was perfect for him. I also quite liked Notting Hill.

I was wondering why you disappeared.

I'm fine. Trying to work, as usual  but otherwise I'm excited over the start of the US Open today. 12 hours of tennis on Eurosport every day. I can't wait to hear what my commentators have to say about the odds of certain players. ;)

It's ok, TH. It's just that I expected loads of people to rush into the forum after the end of the final or something and then hardly anybody was online until it was time for me to go to bed.

Don't worry about the installments. They're supposed to be fun, not an obligation, right? :) I'm still pretty busy myself what with 12 hours of tennis a day in addition to all the work I need to do. ;)

Do you love the Eurosport commentators as much as I do, or is it just me who is crazy about them. The sound of their voices is like the smell of coffee in the morning. I'm rhapsodizing here but I'm serious. I hate it when I have to watch tennis on other channels (German, Croatian, Austrian or even Slovene). There's just something missing.

What do you mean? We have the same Eurosport. I don't think British Eurosport has different coverage, does it? The day sessions are live from 17:00 (16:00 British time) until the end of the session, plus highlights, so approximately until 2 a.m. (1 for you). Then the replay of the night sessios starts at 14:00 (13:00) and ends in time for the live day session. So that means tennis from 14:00 to 2 a.m.

Anyway, bon apetite! :wavey:

Hi Layla, "Very thoughts of you" is called "Martha, meet Frank, Daniel and Lawrence in England. I tumbled into this movie only because it's by Joe. But he's extremely charming there so Joe's fan should go rent it. I think this movie is before Shakespeare.

Oh, I just read a thread by Becca which talks about rules in this board and started wondering. Wasn't too worry though. I love chatting with all of you so it's great that there's a place to do this.

Hey, you guys in Europe are lucky, you can choose coverages from different countries? That's lots of choice, we here in N. American are usually stuck with Pat and Cliff. Though USA's coverage is quite good so far, at least no P&C.

Well, got to get back to the TV, hopefully can see Roger next. He need to do well in NY, it's tough to see him losing like that. :( So best of luck to Roger. Of course, best of luck to JC, hopes he wins this tourney. :bounce:

Hi ILR, sorry, no luck on seeing Roger. USA is busily showing back and forth between Blake, Morrison and Chang. Though John Mc didn't forget to give Rogi a shot, asking where he's been in the past few months, certainly not been on USA channel so far.

I tried not to dislike Morrison (he does seem to look like a good guy). But can they not mentioned Morrison's Wimbly win over JC already. Okay, that's his only memorable win. I actually felt bad for Morrison, the commentators kept saying "his outstanding Wimbly this year". He only got into the 3rd round. Is Morrison really that bad that he already overachieved in Wimbly? George Bastl is a genius, he beat the King of grass in Wimbly, shouldn't he be a saint?

So, back to the hair thing. The Russian reporter is commenting on Juanqui's hair, interesting. That gets me thinking, how popular Juanqui is in Europe? Thx U 2. I'm becoming Hackie and Layls's number 1 fan. Juanqui with a Jarkko hairdo, could be interesting.

Speaking of Juanqui, his match on Grandstand tomorrow is around the same time as Roddick's at Center Court. Guess our chance of seeing him on TV is *sigh* slim!!
Any chance of Roddick faking an injury and tricking his opponent into losing quickly?

LOL, thanks. Anything to bring attention to one of my other favorite players :) I've been wondering if maybe I should attach a picture of Jarkko to the story, but then, if it results in more hits at my website to figure out what the hell I'm talking about, then it's all good :D

And DAMMIT! Now the chance of seeing Juanqui play is even less than before. ::sigh:: Ee-jeets.

Juan Carlos isn't really popular here, well only two players are really well-known here- Kafelnikov and Safin. Our commentator is there and she was just talking about interesting things she saw that day. The thing that impressed her the most was that Kournikova said "Hello" to her when they met face to face  (Anna knows her very well but never bothers usually).

This is a good morning on USA. Safin, Kiefer, Moya... Moya gave me a scare. I'm counting on him to derail the train (A train). Pls don't let me down.

Can't wait to see JC on TV. Hey, with a new hairdo, maybe he will be interesting enough to get some airtime. Based on everyone's comment on his hair, I think it's about time Hackie convinces him to dye his hair back...

i'm back from the USO! night matches are amazing!:)

Leo7
08-28-2002, 04:57 AM
my report from the Open:

after going through the tight security i rushed over to Court 11 to cheer on my girl Mary. Suarez and Pierce were tied at 3-3 in the 1st set tiebreak. but just when i got over to the court Mary lost 4 straight points and the set!:( i'm such a jinx!lol! i stayed for a few more games to cheer her on. the whole crowd was so supportive of Mary, we all LOVED her!:) but after she went down a break i decided i couldn't watch her lose anymore. i wondered around a few of the smaller courts, watched some of Patty Schynder's match, and then i left for Arthur Ashe Stadium.

the Capriati/Mattek match was a real disappointment. i expected the kid to win AT LEAST one game! Cappy didn't even have to play that well, her opponent was hitting a stream of unforced errors. as usual Jenny's serve was horrible, she double faulted 5 times in the 1st set. but her returns were ON FIRE tonite!WOW! and i noticed Stefano and the entire Capriati gang in the player's box all wearing matching red caps! it was so funny!

after Cappy steamrolled Mattek, i rushed over to the Grandstand to check out Juan Carlos Ferrero, who was up 2 sets to love over Wayne Arthurs. but just as i got there his serve was broken and he dropped the 3rd set 6-3!:( he regrouped and picked up his serve in the 4th set, and was hitting some amazing passing shots! the crowd was mostly pro-Ferrero, but there were some dedicated Wayne Arthurs fans out there cheering him on. and Arthur's serve was smoking tonight, blasting it into the 130's at times. but when the Mosquito clinched the match with a crosscourt passing shot, the crowd went wild and was on their feet! so after taking about another thousand pics of Juanqui, i ran back over to Arthur Ashe Stadium to see Andy Roddick destroy Verkerk of Holland in straight sets.

i got plenty of pics too, hopefully i can download them onto the Net soon.

and Mary looked really cute tonight, i liked her black tennis dress!:)

Layla

Because he thinks I'm mad at him and I probably upset him with that angry post about Barrie. I tried to clear things up and asked him if we were still friends, even offered a hug, and he has not responded. :(

You're right! That must be it. ;)

That's just the impression I got, but I only saw the last set. After some shots he could hardly contain himself. He seemed proud of himself, as he should be, and happy his shots were working. I really think he's changing as a person, or just trying to change his image.

LOL!! Well, peroxide can make your hair very brittle and if you use too much it's not good for your scalp. So yes, the joke is, it eats through the skull and brain and makes you stupid :D

Hi guys.

I just checked the USO site and they didn't interview JC, instead Arthurs' interview was posted. I was hoping to find out what went thru his mind when he decided to dye his hair.

It's kinda crazy hairdo but I like it. I like the new JC that comes out with a new hairdo. I wish I got to see his match. But they only showed the tiebreaks and match point here in USA channel. I noticed though he seems to be more aware of the camera, peeking at it occasionally (but more than usual). And that big smile and kisses at the end. I don't think I've seen him like that before. I think he's obviously trying to do something different, it's a good sign.

Layla
08-28-2002, 06:01 PM
Yey, someone agrees with me! Hi Vera. :wavey:

I mentioned in another post that he was flirting with the camera. I love his new confidence and the general happiness he radiates. If that came as a result of his new hair color, then I love it too.

They interviewed Arthurs but not Ferrero? Not again. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/jpshakehead.gif

Vera
08-28-2002, 06:24 PM
Hi Layla :wavey:

I also think he dyes his hair to cheer himself up, to make a statement, not to look good. I mean, he's plenty good looking already, especially with his frosty blond highlight in the past. He is definitely trying something different. I don't think he wants more publicity, because he's alway down to earth and low key. Maybe he really is trying to liberate himself from the negative vibes, whatever that would be.

Okay, enough of my psychanalysis of JC. I think it's great, not only that he comes out with a new personality, but also, if the red-hot (or should I say golden-blond) JC can attract more TV coverage of him, the better for us.

Layla
08-28-2002, 06:44 PM
I believe you might be right in your analysis. But I do think he might want more publicity, even though he's down to earth, or rather because of it. He probably knows he needs to boost his TV ratings and media coverage and he seems to relish the sight of fans cheering him on. I remember he thanked them profusely in RG. The only way for him to attract more fans is to become more noticeble.

ILR
08-28-2002, 09:56 PM
Hey where is everyone?

Vera
08-28-2002, 09:56 PM
Well, for us fans in North America, the more known he is the better. Though I still don't think they will show his match too much unless he's in 2nd weeks of USO. I just think they show his match with Arthurs because of the upset potential. That's great, because Arthurs seems extremely frustrated by never been able to beat JC, ever.

He can't even get an interview with his striking new look. What the heck does he have to do to get notice *sigh*.

Vamos Juanqui!!!

Under normal circumstances, I would agree. But with just a limited time to watch matches, I was a bit pissed that Safin's match took so long because they were denying me Juan Carlos. I want to see him sometime in the next two weeks!!

This is one from his official site. A little better. I think it'll take me a little while to get use to the blond.

Nice contrast in a dark background though. And he looked so tanned with this hair.

Yes this one is better. The look of triumph on his face probably helps. ;)

Hi TH :wavey:

I just thought the story is really funny, and great fun to read. I mean, we can say all day how much we like JC, but writing a story about him is something. And all those songs.

I started feeling bad for Alex though, afterall, he is a great person in real life.

BTW, I fell down laughing every time I read the commentation session. It's so Pat and Cliff. The best way to take revenge on the enemy is to mock them.:D :D :D

So true, Vera. TennisHack's mock commentaries are brilliant. http://www.stopstart.btinternet.co.uk/sm/notworthy.gif

If you feel sorry for Alex now, just wait what I have in store for him next, hehehe. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/nogood.gif I know he's a good guy in real life, I'm just trying to change his image a bit. ;)

LOL I know what you mean. But multi-tasking is almost an essential skill these days, so it's always good to practice. ;)

I wish the rain would just desist though. I can't take this tennis vacuum. :(

Oh and I don't have the storyline prepared in advance, except this bit about Alex's next move. I just write what comes to me at the moment. And since it's a duet, the storyline changes with every new installment and we have to adjust accordingly. It's really a lot of fun. But input is appreciated, so don't worry about influencing me. ;)

Vera
08-29-2002, 05:37 PM
Somehow, it's like a childhood dream for me to be a writer, but when I actually try to sit down and write something, there's not much ink in me. But if I do have something to say about the story, I'll speak up.

Ya, too bad about the tennis. My wish is that they will resume play soon because it's great that they scheduled Moya at tonite's TV session and it will be such a shame if his match is delayed.

I'm still mad that in French Open, the whole day TV coverage of the QF is washed away by rain. Hence, I didn't get to see JC playing Agassi at all because they didn't cover it the next day. I was so mad. I heard JC was invincible that match. It would have been a great taped collection.

Layla
08-29-2002, 05:54 PM
The hardest thing about writing is the beginning. Once you get the first few words out of the way, ideas just follow. You shouldn't give up such a wonderful dream. If you dream of being a writer, than you know you got it in you, you just need to open the gate. And I'm not much of a writer. I just like to day-dream. :)

That's too bad about Ferrero/Agassi match. I'm so sorry. It was a classic. I still have it taped somewhere.

Vera
08-29-2002, 06:30 PM
So true. So many time I pick up my pen, just don't know how to begin. But it's okay, I have plenty of time to make this dream come true. Thanks for the encouragement.

So can I ask you a question? How many languages do you speak? I wish I know more, I'm planning to learn French, but then I also want to learn spanish :) I though it's cool that European knows some many languages usually.

Layla
08-29-2002, 06:36 PM
Well, not as many as I would like. I speak Slovene, obviously, Croatian, English and a little bit of French (I took French for 4 years at school but forgot everything :( ) I intend to learn Spanish too. It's such a wonderful language. :) Oh and I understand some German too, just by occasionally watching tennis on German channels. ;)

Thanks for the comments on the commentaries, even though I honestly don't see it. That's a good thing, I guess, because I'm not conscious of what's so drop-down funny so I can't try too hard and ruin it. ;)

And actually, the storyline is not your prototypical storyline, that's what's so great about a tandem story, you never know what you have to work with :) As Layla said, it's half the fun! And reader comments are always appreciated.

Just wanted to say that I agree with what Layla said, and also: don't be afraid to totally steal someone's writing style when you begin. Goodness knows I did :o When you start writing, getting a feel for how you want the words to sound (sometimes it helps to read it aloud), you depart from the stolen style and find your own.

TennisHack
08-30-2002, 02:40 AM
What's more depressing is he lost to Jan-Michael Gambill. 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

I'm not sure he belongs in the TMS Canada final now ;)

Vera
08-30-2002, 02:53 AM
Ya, losing is one thing, losing ugly is another, then losing to Gambill...*sigh*

I'm still having flashbacks of him hitting those brilliant forehand past Juanqui in Cincy. So what the heck just happened. I think someone has secretly hide the real Moya and replaced him with a fake. Must be those Netheads who said they are entirely responsible for Gambill's win. Maybe that could be a twist for the TMS Canada final.

This one is tough to swallow. Now JC and Alex better be good tomorrow, no pressure though...

LOL, the being onling thing is what's going to kill me :( I'm going to be watching the Guga/Safin match this afternoon (I swallowed my angst and decided I'd like to see it), otherwise I'd be on the board from noon my time on.

Morning! :wavey:

Here's some coffee for you. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/coffee.gif :)

What do you mean? Moya defeated Gambill all 3 times they met. I don't believe he lost. I can't believe it. It's incomprehensible.

Why the angst regarding the Safin/Guga match? Who are you rooting for anyway?

Vera
08-30-2002, 04:08 PM
Hi all! May I join to share my grief? Oh Moya Moya Moya, he's so out of sort last nite. They said the condition is just what he doesn't like. I was so praying for the rain to come to delay it so that he can play in the day time. Oh well.:(

I hope this won't become a big blow for him, his summer is going almost perfect, so pls don't let him be too discouraged.

Oops, you're right :o That's what I get for believing everything on the US Open website :o :o

A thousand apologies, Carlos!

Why the angst regarding the Safin/Guga match? Who are you rooting for anyway?

Well, I now like to watch both of these players play (I've always loved Guga, but Safin is a relatively new watch-for-five-hours player) and I hate to see the match so early in the tournament. Both have tons of points to defend, and someone's going to get screwed in the end. :(

I think I'm going to root for Guga!! Because how could you not?

TennisHack
08-30-2002, 04:50 PM
Henin is finally about to win her match. She's up 7-5, 5-1. Guga & Safin up next! :)

Well, she just won. Thank God.

Unfortunately, Juan Ignacio Chela & Michael Llodra are only in the second set of their match, and it looks like it's going to be a loooooong match. No Juanqui for me I guess :(

Layla
08-30-2002, 04:50 PM
Well I obviously can, as I'll be cheering for Safin. I love Guga, he's a great guy and terrific player, but he's beaten Juanqui once too often at RG to be one of my fave faves. ;)

Guga is always screwed in the draw. Poor guy, some force must be against him. :(

I love Guga even though he has had Juan Carlos's number in the past. Of course I never root against our boy when they play, but he's just too lovable in his other matches to cheer against.

At any rate, Guga and Safin are coming up next on court, so I'm going to go down to watch it. I'll take some notes for you guys!!

Hey, you and me both. The 2nd round jinx been horrifying.

He seems to be waking up by losing the second set. Losing his concentration a bit, there's always dangerous with a lesser known opponent.
