It is so satisfying to watch your faves play REALLY well -- doesn't happen that often! That's why I kick myself for NOT taping Juanqui's win over Guga in ROMA01!! Am I crazy? YES. It must have been awesome...

At least you didn't tape it (the last half that is), onto the middle of a tape that contained the Johnny Mac Biography (hilarious, even for non fans), and the end of Paris 2000 finals (Mark vs Marat), and most of Hamburg match against Nicolas Lapentti - AND LOSE THE TAPE!

OMG I wanted to die when I couldn't find it

Anyway, if there's any consolation, our PM in Canada is as worse, he's like, losing his prime but refusing to go. It's a shame for Canadians.

It's just really difficult when we are all losing our faith in our government. I used to watch West Wing for the past season. But I was so sick of politics these days I can't even bear to watch political drama on TV.

WOW! You just said exactly what I feel (except that I didn't go to school in Texas). Everything Bush is doing now scares me. For Canada, I think there should be legislation that limited the number of years of power for PM.

It is pretty frustrating for me now that I can't vote in Canada or US.

Well, I think how great the weather is a relative thing. I've been living here almost 4 months and used to the sunny days here so a cloudy day is not very encouraging.

The weather talk makes me think about a commercial here. A woman use her digital camera and take a picture of a sunny day. She just stuck her hand out of the window. The photo is then e-mailed to her daughter. My guess she is studying in Europe. She printed the pic and tape it on her window and of course it is cool, dark and rainy day outside.

May be you can just print all those Renoir and Rogi photos and tape them on your windows today.

Hi everyone :wavey:

As promised, the translation of the Roger Federer thingy:

7. Place Roger Federer

His mother Lynette is Southafrican, and the way Roger Federer is lying in the hot sand he reminds us of Howard Carpendale. And then something that referes to this Carpendale-guy which I don't understand Lately he's been storming up the rankings with Swiss precision, and even before that he already had a lot of female fans. They love his long hair and calm atitude. Really cool, like the way he beat Sampras at Wimbledon. Succes makes someone atractive

Hi Francine and Becca! :wavey:

There is something about Andy that I want to say for quite a while. I don't like Andy but there's nothing I can find in him that make me dislike him. I actually pity him a bit because I feel he is a victim of the propaganda machine in ATF and sports media in US. They are so desperate to find a replacement for Pete and Andre that they just push Andy into stardom before he is ready.

9. Platz Alex Corretja

Vamos Alex! Lass’ die Korken knallen. Du hast es dir verdient. Meinen auch die weiblichen Tennisfans. Was sie an Alex Corretja mogen?

[forgive me, I don't have the accents]

I am so liberal, LOL, that I was against Bush from the start. I remembered his father's administration, and knew that Baby Bush wasn't smart enough to run the country by himself so would probably be a mere puppet in the hands of Daddy Bush's advisors. Which is exactly what happened.

I cannot stand Bush, but was thankful that the Democrats won the majority in the Senate to keep at least one legislative house from the grips of the Republicans. Now, for the first time since Eisenhower (the 50s), all of Congress and the White House is being controlled by the Republicans, and I honestly fear what will happen.

The first thing Bush did in office was ban funding for Planned Parenthood overseas. I don't even want to know what's going to happen next. I have a friend in the military and seriously fear for his safety.

I've always hated Bush (him I really do HATE, unlike the poor innocent tennis players). I was severely depressed when he won the elections, especially because he didn't really win. That day I told anyone who'd listen to me that it was a catastrophe of global proportions and probably the worst thing that could happen to the world. I had a forboding of things to come even then. I know this is a sensitive subject, but I think September 11 wouldn't happen if Bush wasn't in the office, at least not in such a horrible way. But I don't believe a Democratic congress could stop him anyway, so I don't take these elections too seriously.

I hope you can put it behind you for now TH.

Carpendale is a southafrican singer. Anyway, here's the translation of the Alex Corretja one:

9. Place Alex Corretja

Vamos Alex, let's toast on this one, cause you deserve it! The female tennisfans think so as well. Why they like Alex Corretja? Maybe his dark skin. Or the black chair on his chest, or the way he sings la Bamba when he wins another tournament, which happens often enough. Above all that, he hasn't got an attitude, is very nice and friendly to everyone. You can go to a soccermatch or take a herbal bath with him. He's a man everyone wants as a friend. Or as a husband, his wife Martha is very happy and not because of the black har on his chest.

I'm leaving, have to eat my pizza, bye everyone! :wavey:

The Congress *was* Democratic, which is why we haven't completely destroyed ANWR yet  A pivotal role was played right after the 2000 elections, when the Vermont senator changed from Republican to Independent, giving the Democrats the majority in the Senate. That really tipped the scales and had legislation grind to a halt on these big scary projects Bushie wanted.

I think 9.11 would have still happened (it was being planned for years apparently) but it probably wouldn't have been as big of a catastrophe as it was. I don't know, the INS is in such horrible disrepair that it makes no difference who the president is. ANYWAY, I think it would have been handled in a better way by someone other than Bush, who immediately called for this "war on terrorism"--war on a concept is ALWAYS dangerous territory, and it won't end in the foreseeable future (see: War on Drugs). Now that domestic problems have gotten out of hand, Bushie has set his eyes to the Middle East and vows to finish what Daddy Bush started so he can look like a hero. The overwhelming majority of people in the States are cautious, if not out and out against, war in Iraq. It's the last damn thing we need right now. Our economy is the pits, everyone's going paranoid about "swarthy looking people" and bitching at the airport security people

Anyway, I'll get off my political soapbox now. I sort of go on diatribes like that if you get me started ;) I'm feeling much, much better today and have moved back from the emotional edge I was on the past few days. I think it has something to do with it being Friday . . .

OK, here's the last one for Francine:

1. Platz Marat Safin

And the winner is… ja, Marat Safin. Very sexy.

[well, i agree w the last sentence!]

When I was in Canada, ginger beef is a favorite Chinese dish there. The interesting part is I have never eat or hear a dish like this before I moved to Canada.

:) leecal, do you cook Chinese at home or do you eat out a lot at Chinese restaurants? I'm not good at cooking Chinese so it's better that I eat out -- but it's hard to find really good Chinese here, despite the high # of Chinese. The BEST Chinese I had was in Paris -- so good I went back for more!!! :lick:

I cook Chinese at home but I don't have any culinary talent. I only make very basic dishes. When there was just my hubby and me, we ate out a lot (since most of the time we worked late till 6-7 pm and I was to tired to cook) but we liked to try different cusine so actually we hardly went to Chinese restaurant except family gatherings. One problem with Chinese restaurant is the quality of food is not consistent. Usually, I find a good restaurant but than it wil get worse and worse.

I think you live in Toronto. There really no good Chinese restaurant? The interesting thing is I lived in Canada 14 years and I have never been to Toronto.

I hardly watch WTA -- I used to watch women's tennis when Arantxa was at her peak -- she was such a fighter -- still is -- she's supposed to make a statement re: her future on Tue. Read it in a Spanish paper. La pobrecita!!:( Problem is, no young Spanish woman is capable of replacing her... exc. perhaps Anabel Medina Garrigues, who was injured at AUSOPEN playing Seles -- that was really tough to watch -- I felt so bad for her. Hope she'll be back soon! She was invited to watch ESP vs MAR DC in Spain earlier this year -- nice of the guys [probably was Alex who invited her... ] AND she's from Valencia!! Land of Juanqui! ;)

Hi! :wavey:

Message edited. For anyone who is doing some back reading, just ignore this message. It was a hoax that got me into a state of utter panic.

URGENT MESSAGE!!!

I got an e-mail today from a friend of mine (teacher from the university) that was a VIRUS ALERT! It said that the virus spreads to all contacts and then there was a procedure for how to eliminate it, only it didn't work. My suspicion is that the virus was spread by that message itself, that it was a fake virus alert, but just to be sure, PLEASE CHECK if you recieved any e-mails from me and DO NOT OPEN THEM.

That goes especially for TH, Emma and Rebecca, because I either have your e-mail or MSN.

Second, please check if you don't already have this virus. The procedure is as follows.

1. Click start and choose search and then files/maps. Type in jdbgmgr.exe. If the search is negative fine. If it shows this file with a teddy bear next to it, you've got a virus. DO NOT CLICK ON IT FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD.

Let me know if you have it.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!!!

DON'T DELETE THE FILE if you find it. Wait until I find out more.

In the future, if you receive an e-mail from me, DON'T OPEN IT and let me know here.

Could you please check immediately so I will know if it can spread on its own, or if it's spread by forwarding that virus alert message. It says in the message to send it to all my contacts, but I don't want to do that, because I'm suspicious. That friend of mine probably forwarded it in all innocence, but I don't have his phone number so I can't call him. I can't get in touch with any other contacts right now either, so that I could ask them.

I'M SOOOOOOOOO PISSED OFFFFFFFFFF!!!! :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

I don't think there's a chance I could have infected you, but better safe than sorry. And if I have, then I appologize from the bottom of my heart.

Layla,

I do not have any new messages from you.

What to do:
RUN YOUR VIRUS SOFTWARE, it will pick up the infected file and it will quarantine it. I have been getting "bounced back" emails with an infected file; it says I tried to send a message to someone that I don't know (and couldn't possibly have sent a message to) and it gave me an infected file.

Apparently it's a hoax to make you delete a perfectly valid file from your computer. This is what I discovered on McAffee. http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99436.htm

AGAIN, DO NOT DELETE IT!

So did you find the file anyway? Does it have a teddy bear attached? Does it always have a teddy bear attached. I'm a bit confused.

Well, first of all, my website account is simply forwarded to a hotmail account, so I was suspicious from the getgo when it said I had tried to send something from my webmaster account (can't do it, it's just a ***** address). The message was also 100+k and nonsense words, and it told me at the top that it was "bounced back" to me for virus prevention.

I immediately ran my virus software and it found the file (the nonsense words), which was infected, and it was quarantined so as not to be spread. That's usually the first thing you should do, and the only thing to worry about. Don't delete files without first scanning them for the supposed virus ;) Because unfortunately these hoaxes that make you delete a perfectly normal system file are becoming rampant :(

The newer your operating system, the harder it is to delete system files anyway--hence, it not really being "deleted".

TennisHack

By the way, I found the file, and it is perfectly harmless. It is just the Microsoft Debugger for Java--the file that makes sure your Java applets and scripts is working properly. And yes, it does have a teddy bear icon.

No don't thank me, I spreading false panic. :o Just leave the file be, it's a normal file that some assholes :fiery: wanted me to delete.

Just leave it be, it was a stupid hoax. Luckily, my computer restored it on its own. ;)

I've been shaking for 2 hours, literally shaking. Only now am I beginning to calm down a bit. I'M SO SORRY FOR THIS GUYS! I panicked. :o I should've known it was a hoax but the damn teddy bear tricked me. Why would the programers attach a teddy bear to a file?

If you feel like there is not a single person out there for you there are two explanations:you are trying to hard or you are picking the wrong type of people. This time try to avoid going for the same kind of people,at first it may feel strange but head in the opposite direction. It cant hurt you can it?Its not like you have anything to lose.If you feel like giving up,dont give in altogether, just dont go out looking.Leave it to the stars........;)

Arizona is a very interesting place. The northern part of Arizona is the world famous Grand Canyon which I not yet visited but hopefully next summer. South of Grand Canyon are mountains and I think the ski season just started. The ski area is not as famous as its northern neighbouring states, Colorado. The southern part of Arizona is basically a big desert. Metro Phoenix is in a desert valley with mountains surrounding it. I live in the northeast mountain part and thus quite far away from the downtown area. Although it is a desert, no one live more than 2 miles from a golf course.

Phoenix is a big metro which comprise of many small cities including of course Phoenix. I've been living here for 4 months and I not yet able to count all. The city I live is Scottsdale which is the north-eastern part of the metro and we have both a WTA and ATP tourny in spring (I think) here.

In US, Phoenix is not that big a city as compare to New York, Los Angeles, etc. but a pretty big one when compare to where I live in Canada.

Hi, Layla! Just read about your panic, hope you'll feel better tomorrow. Goodnight.

Hi, Lee!!!

Emma, you're still up?

I fell asleep as Kimmy & Justine's match progressed, i watched it from the bed and tried to open my eyes to catch a few good rallies but i fell asleep again. Kimmy was hot, wasn't she?
Yeah, Justine's mindset must be into that coming wedding.

Kimmy does a lot of good work, not only in her tennis ;) I've heard that when she goes to a tournament she asks if there are any local children's hospital trips scheduled for the players!

Thanks for the pic :)

I actually heard about Kim and Potato at the same time, RG last year. I liked Kim but couldn't stand Hewitt right from the beginning. Of course, I also didn't know they were dating until USA did this special thing on Kim & Justine when they made the semis against each other (kicking myself for not taping it, doh!), but even that didn't deter me.

Clijsters sends bride-to-be Henin packing in WTA Championships
By BETH HARRIS, AP Sports Writer
November 8, 2002

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Bride-to-be Justine Henin headed home early to prepare for her upcoming wedding after a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Kim Clijsters in an all-Belgian quarterfinal at the WTA Championships on Friday.

No. 2 Venus Williams met sixth-seeded Monica Seles in an all-American matchup Friday night. The winner will play the fifth-seeded Clijsters on Sunday in the semifinals of the season-ending tournament.

Henin offered little resistance against her childhood friend. Clijsters owns a 5-2 record in their rivalry with three of her wins coming this year.

``Maybe that's the worst I've ever played against her,'' said Henin, a friend of Clijsters' since they were youngsters who traveled and roomed together at junior tournaments.

``Those matches are never easy,'' Clijsters said. ``There's always a bit of tension because I know her so well. But that's tennis. We can't choose how the draw was made.''

Henin committed 33 unforced errors in front of a sparse afternoon crowd at Staples Center, where a leak in the 20,000-seat arena's roof caused rain to drop on a third-row seat that wasn't occupied.

``I was really tired. I was sweating a lot and that's not normal for me,'' Henin said. ``It's the end of the season. Everybody is tired. When you're in the top 16, it means you've played a lot of matches.''

Henin, 20, plans to wed Pierre-Yves Hardenne next Saturday in Belgium. But she said she was focused on the tennis ball and not wedding bells.

``I completely forgot that I'm getting married next week,'' she said. ``That's not the reason.''

Clijsters is on the guest list, although she'll be attending alone since boyfriend and men's No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt will be in Shanghai for the ATP Tour's season-ending championships.

What would it mean if Clijsters and Hewitt each won their tour's respective championship?

``It would be nicer if it was in the same facility,'' she said. ``You would notice it a little more but now he's so far away.''

After a season stuffed with 67 tournaments in 33 countries, many of the 16 players at the championships have complained of being tired and are eager for the tennis year to end.

Not the 19-year-old Clijsters.

``It's your last few matches so I'm really motivated to try to finish the year on a positive note,'' she said. ``I feel fine. Maybe some of the other players are really looking forward to going home. I know next week I'll have a few days off.''

Clijsters hit deep groundstrokes and played angles that forced Henin off the court. She won 71 percent of her trips to the net and held a 15-5 edge in winners.

That episode is so difficult to watch that I almost fast forward it. But Lorelai is such a strong lady that she can go through it with Rory's help. Sherry is either a very stupid woman or a very despicable one.

Oh! I remember you like the part about deviled eggs. Well, deviled eggs are my fav and I sort of think it's a waste.

I have a feeling that Chris will not marry Sherry and the writers may put him back to Lorelai's life.

How can they make Jesse work in Walmart? Even he desperately need a car, I can't imagine he will work in Walmart. I don't like it when they try to take away the bad boy image of Jesse. What do you think?

I have my GG marathon the day Lindsay play Monica. After seeing Lorelai so upset, I am pretty down already and by the time I finish watching Lindsay game, I was very upset. I agree about Jess. The beauty about the series is no one actually are bad. The most amazing thing is whenever there is a conflict between Emily & Lorelai, I can understand both sides and think both are right in what they do.

yeah, i love the conflict between Emily and Lorelai. takes the show to another level. i'm sure many mothers/daughters can relate.
