Federer, Ferrero Shanghai Bound

Roger Federer and Juan Carlos Ferrero secured their berths to Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai when fellow contender Tim Henman lost his third-round match to Nicolas Escude 6-4, 6-2 Thursday at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.

"If there's a possibility and I qualify for the Masters, then if all's gone well, I'd still like to play. But once this season is done, I'm going to make sure that I get it right. And having spoken to the doctor, you know, he said this quite possibly can take a couple months. But he did, he certainly stressed that it's worth getting it right," said Henman, who has been plagued by a shoulder injury since Indianapolis.

Henman, who today sits seventh in the ATP Champions Race, will see his hopes end if eighth-place Carlos Moya defeats defending champion Sebastien Grosjean later today. Andy Roddick must reach the final to qualify.

Paris is wild card Escude's career-second quarterfinal of a Tennis Masters Series following Indian Wells last year. The 25-year-old Frenchman, who was out of action between July and September because of an abdominal injury, lost to the Brit in the second round in Basel last week.

"I don't think Tim served very well today. During the tournament in Basel, I was playing very well, but I was leading against him one set and a break in the second set. After, I lost my concentration. Today I keep my concentration from first point to the last point. So that's what make the difference," said the Frenchman.

Thai sensation Paradorn Srichaphan continued his hot streak by defeating No. 16 seed Guillermo Canas 6-1, 6-4 in his second consecutive quarterfinal of a Tennis Masters Series event.

Srichaphan will take on 20-year-old Andy Roddick in Friday's quarterfinals. The American defeated Romanian Andrei Pavel 7-6(5), 6-4 to reach his fourth quarterfinal of a Tennis Masters Series event this year.

I don't know which season it was but it just ended a week ago. It was the one where Dawn was the key and Buffy couldn't destroy Glory. In the end she jumpes off a tower and is apparently dead but of course she's not. It wasn't my favorite seasonl, what with all the stuff about her mother and some of the episodes were quite boring, but there were some great bits so I still love the show. :D

Ok, I know remember what you told me about Spike's later actions, but in this season, the relationship development between Spike and Buffy was brilliant imo. at the money stuff. I guess some people think that's the only reason he plays every week (more or less). I always thought he did it because he loved the sport, the competition.

And he *did* give away all of his Moscow prize money last year, seemingly without a thought. Goodness knows he'd never have to work again.

I just think other people have no right to judge why he does what he does. I mean, these people don't know him in person, they just assume that he plays every week, so must be the money. Honestly, some of the tourney prize money is less than his travelling cost, if he's just for the money, he shouldn't bother to go to those tourney.

Ya, Pat and Zhenya, it's just so unfortunately that these 2 have to retire when Pete and Andre just won't. But it's good for them though. I thought, Pat and Zhenya do have a life outside the sports...I mean, they both done what they could and not bother by the vanity that goes with it, and both are able to leave at their own term with whatever they've accomplished. I'm happy for them. And it's really sad for Pete and Andre, IMO. They've won so many Slams but both still apparently bothered by their losses in certain tourneys, but you can't win it all. It will be a shame if one can accomplished so much and still not happy about themselves. You can call it perfectionists but I think that's just stupid, you know, holding on to the negatives.

Well, I know there is no way for Chris come back to be one happy family with the girls, the series will be over if this happen but seeing Lorelai hurt so much makes me sick:fiery: but that guy is cute.

Both Jess and Dean are not good enough for Rory. Dean is a very nice guy and I think teenage girls want a nice guy as a big brother but definitely not boyfriend. Jess will only hurt Rory because he is a very selfish guy. I will vote for Dean if I am Lorelai but Jess will get the vote if I am Rory.

Well, I'm not very qualified to state my opinion on the matter, but from what few episodes I've seen (including the picnic basket one--classic!), I think I'd prefer Dean to Jess. I can see the appeal of Jess, but overall I like nice boys more than "bad boys".

If something's happened since the basket epidsode that I don't know about, it might very well disqualify my whole addition to the conversation.

Be careful with those jokes, you never know what can make someone jump from their windows.

I only wish I could be kidding.

I went to the store late one night and saw a little sign that said Lindt was discontinuing several flavors, including strawberry :sad: Mrs. B confirmed it :(

Jiri had 446, and he adds one point since he lost second round, but had a first round bye. 447

Moya had 421, adds 25 so far, which makes for 446

Ouch, that would be depressing. Im a step away from hating both Jiri and Gagass. :p

Mrs. B said that they are still making them, but with a different company name on them  And if we get desperate enough, she'll have Micha send me "a truckload" ;)

I know I am very protective toward Pete but he is the reason I became a tennis fan. *sign* like a girl's first love *sign*

If something's happened since the basket epidsode that I don't know about, it might very well disqualify my whole addition to the conversation.

You probably don't know the episode that when Dean is out of town and Lorelai is having her Friday dinner with Emily, Jess drove Rory around with the car Dean built for her and he crash it. Wow! What a guy. Basically, after the picnic basket episode, Rory shows lots of the kind of character that a very straight and nice girl will fall for "bad boys". From my female point of view, I definitely want an overprotective boyfriend like Dean.

By the way, the guy who play Dean reminds me of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCarpio when they are young. What do you think?

HI all!

I'm also w you hitman!!!

Read this lovely report!

Moya beats Agassi to seal place in Masters
Carlos Moya sealed his place in the Masters Cup in Shanghai by beating Andre Agassi in an epic quarter-final clash in the Paris Masters on Friday.

quick access : PARIS MASTERS: Escudé v Safin LIVE!

Moya produced one of the best performances of his career to dispose of the world number two in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) in front of a thrilled capacity crowd in Bercy. The Spaniard found the lines on his serve with unerring regularity and frequently out-rallied Agassi from the baseline.

Agassi was never allowed to settle, and the tension began to tell in the second set when the American gave the umpire a severe tongue-lashing after one of several controversial overrules.

The result means that Moya will now be one of the eight players competing in Shanghai in ten days, as American Andy Roddick misses out. "I'm back from a tough spell, so it's a great joy," said the delighted Moya.

Agassi, meanwhile, has lost an opportunity to close the gap in the rankings between himself world number one Lleyton Hewitt. The young Aussie takes on Swiss ace Roger Federer in Bercy later on Friday.

Now for Marat and Paradorn to win! ;)

LMAO!!! at this article:

Agassi loses temper, then match at Paris Masters
AP Photo
By MICHAEL McDONOUGH
Associated Press Writer
November 1, 2002

PARIS (AP) -- Andre Agassi cursed, slammed his racket and told the referee he'd done a "pathetic job.''

Otherwise, Agassi took Friday's 6-4, 6-4 loss to Carlos Moya in the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters pretty well, and Agassi still could end up being the world's top-ranked player by the end of the year.

Agassi was angered by several calls during the match, and afterward he told French umpire Cedric Mourier just what he thought of his job performance. They nevertheless shook hands.

"I hope I always speak my mind,'' Agassi said later.

Even with the defeat, Agassi can overtake Lleyton Hewitt for the No. 1 spot if he performs well at the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai, China, next month.

Hewitt, seeded first, beat Switzerland's Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. Federer had 36 unforced errors in the loss.

Hewitt will face Paradorn Srichaphan, a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) winner over Andy Roddick. Paradorn, who won the Stockholm Open last week, had 18 aces in the win. Roddick finished with 16.

Moya, the 1998 French Open champion, sealed the victory when Agassi sent his last forehand long. The Spaniard, who withstood six match points in the third-round against defending champion Sebastien Grosjean, fell to his knees and clutched his forehead with delight.

Although he was angered that the umpire had overruled a few calls, Agassi refused to blame him or his own outbursts for the defeat.

"Carlos played better than I did today. He won that match, end of story,'' he said. ``I didn't let the frustration affect the way I played. If anything, I felt like it helped me dig in a little bit more.''

Moya next plays Russian Marat Safin, who defeated Frenchman Nicolas Escude 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Agassi's biggest outburst came in the second set, when he was serving at 2-2 and 30-30. Mourier ruled his first serve out, prompting the American to swear loudly, storm over to the umpire's chair and shout: "Keep the score!''

Agassi drew a warning, but he won that game with a backhand down the line and yelled "Come on!'' to himself. He slammed his racket to the floor as he passed in front of Mourier's chair for the changeover.

During the pause, he had a heated discussion with Mourier, telling him "That ball was good,'' and "That was a terrible call.'' When he rose from his chair for the next game, Agassi said "It's over, it's over,'' and waved his hands in front of him to show he had calmed down.

As wife Steffi Graf looked on from the stands, Agassi lost three of the next four games, and Moya moved ahead 5-4.

Agassi had three break points at 40-0 in the final game. Moya saved the third with a forehand that Agassi thought was long: He stood still, looking at the line and muttering obscenities.

Moya set up his first match point with a forehand volley, but Agassi saved it with a superb crosscourt forehand. He lost the next point with a long service return, giving Moya the advantage, and conceded defeat with another error.

Agassi said he counted five overrules from Mourier in the match.

"What can you do except sit there and be at their mercy to randomly decide when they're going to do that?'' Agassi said. "I'd just as soon let the calls play all the time.''

He said he gave Mourier some advice during the match.

"I was trying to tell him: 'Just stop. Every time you think about overruling, just punch yourself in the stomach. And don't do it.'

"Didn't get the message through.''

Moya's win secured him a spot in the Masters Cup. Agassi, Safin, Hewitt, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Roger Federer and Albert Costa already have qualified for the eight-man event, leaving just one place up for grabs in Paris.

When Carlos hit that winner BH down the line and hit the line, save the BP in the last game, Gagassi was looking at the ump for an overrule. I bet Baldy must be punching himself in the stomach for giving his advice to the Umpire when he didn't get that overruled. LMAO@Gagassi. Hmmm, that's hard to say. I think Canada is hardly exciting either. I like England, well I like London, I should say. I was there for a couple of weeks and I love the atmosphere. It's busy but nice. I mean, NYC is very busy too but I don't think I'm too impressed with NYC. But London is more trendy. But mayb it's just north american liking the European atmosphere.

Vera
11-01-2002, 11:08 PM
Well, I like where I live. But I love to travel to Europe. It's so different from North America, so it's very exciting for me.

Oh, I was on one of those underground. I gone myself to meet a friend outside London but somehow the train went past the station and I couldn't get off. I was very pissed bcos I was just a very confused tourist and couldn't understand the underground system and was late to meet my friend. Well, that happens when you travel.

Hi, I'm back! :wavey:

I had a lovely day and the trip was really beautiful. :) And despite being away for most of the day, I still managed to get all the work done for today.

But nothing gave me more pleasure than watching Moya beat Agassi. :D Lol, Agassi was his usual arrogant self, he said the f-word repeatedly and cursed the umpire several times. It was really ugly, he seemed like a rabid pit-bull. But what else is new. :p I've seen him do it several times. Sometimes I pity the umpires. The shit they have to put up with... Suffice it to say, this match didn't endear him to me. ;)

Sorry about Roger, all you Rogi fans out there. :( But he did secure his spot in Shanghai and that's what's really important, so I hope you're not too sad. We'll both be watching our fave in the Masters' Cup. :)

I really sucked at my predictions today. I only got one right and that was Paradorn. :o Oh yeah, that reminds me. I'm also happy Andy won't be making an appearance in Shanghai. :D I'll take Novak over him any day.

Right, now I can read the thread and see what you guys were up too. ;)

Vera
11-01-2002, 11:13 PM
But I swear they didn't indicate it anywhere that they won't stop at particular station. :o Ya, I felt quite stupid, and I have to pretend that I wasn't shocked when the train went passed the station so other passenger won't noticed that I have no clue:o :o :o Quite funny come to think about it.

My worst experience on a public transportation is in SF. I was on a cable car. I wanted a stop at a station where no one gets off normally. So I rang the bell. The cable car stopped very briefly, and just went I tried to get off, it moved. I fell miserably. And everyone on the car and on the street looked at me as if I jumped off. I was so embarrassed, mad (at the driver), and I got bruises on legs and hands and arms and I have to resist the pain, pretended nothing happened and ran off that street as quickly as possible. What a nightmare that was.

Juan Carlos is different. He's established himself as a player on the tour and has been to the Cup before. I too would have been crying if he hadn't made it.

Eggy & the others are saying he's in the Top 10, so I guess he's around there somewhere?

yeh, i guess.

so which semifinal do you think ESPN will show now that there are no more Americans left? i'm thinking Hewitt vs. Srichaphan. both matches should be good. i predict Carlos and Llegs will win. rematch of Cincy?! :)

too bad Rogi lost today :( oh well, he's still in the TMC

As for his ranking, Andy is sitting at number 9.

So unless Costa rips it up at the Masters, or Haas plays some rinky dinky tournament and wins - is there any? - then he will finish number 9.
