Lee, i'm happily married too, but this is all for good fun here, as long as hubby doesn't peek in or anything like that. But he's aware of my activities here and he says i act like a moonstruck teenager.:D

My hubby indulges me. I don't think he will peek in here since he hardly has the time these days. He is pretty confident that he is the second most important guy in my life (our son is no. 1) since we go through a lot of hard times together in our 14 1/2 years of marriage.

Well, he knows what a big tennis freak i am, long before i found out about atpw. i was already reading the sites of GS tournaments and all, reading all the interviews and infos i could get my hands on, watched the matches on tv, i just couldn't get enough. But we're also members of a club here so we play a lot during the summer. And our friends also play. :)

I've always wanted to play a classical stringed instrument, I didn't care which one.

You're lucky you 2 are still eating together. My poor hubby is working so hard these days by the time he is home, I already put my son to bed. I feel so sorry for him so I cook dinner just for him after my son go to bed so he don't have to eat leftover.

Hi everyone:wavey:

Wow, busy morning here. :D
Oh, Emma, Nico lost:( Well, though, I must admit that I don't feel too bad that Zhenya won. I watched the match on TV, it's a really strange match. Nico serves so well at the latter part and I just can't believe he lost the TB. Even though I thought he will lose, I still hope he gets the TB just to improve his TB record. But, oh well.

And what's wrong with that scoreboard on court 1, the score btw Paradorn and JMG stuck at first game of 2nd set. JMG is useless, can't he just maybe take it to the 3rd or sth. Just make Paradorn worked his ass off so he won't give much trouble to Juanqui tomorrow, please! That's all I ask for, to let Juanqui win one match and he can clinch his spot in Shanghai.

Oh yeah, I totally know. I mean, I will be devastated if Juanqui lost. Which then makes me very very very nervous now bcos he might lose tomorrow. I have faith in him but that didn't make it any easier to not get pessimistic about it.

And I feel strongly for Rogi too, so he better sends Malisse packing tomorrow. And Carlos must pass Blake...Man, so many do it or die match tomorrow.

:) Hi guys, I'm back!

Just doing other things at the same time.

I agree that JMG is pretty useless, esp. when it comes to beating AA (who is close to winning... but good to see Gaudio is not giving up -- he won a set).

Pls don't say that Juanqui might not win tomorrow!! He has to! Same with Rogi!!

I also sort of saw that match, Vera. Nico looked out of it. He can go home now and rest up for next year -- in the meantime we'll just look for more of his pix to drool at

As for TH's Q to you re: Vivaldi

I love baroque music -- it's so colourful and lively! Esp. Vivaldi and JS Bach of course! Bach's organ music drives me crazy!! [I've even tried to play it on a HUGE pipe organ once on a windy, dark evening in a big cathedral -- talk about power!!] But I also like rock, jazz, latin, flamenco, salsa, Russian, middle-eastern, Celtic... etc. music.

Errr........nope. This might sounds anti American but I don't like any American player. In fact, I hate most of them, except Blake. To me, Pete is just plain boring, I mean his tennis, when his serve is on, not much tennis to watch. I love Pat because his serve don't blow you away, his game works by putting all those good serve and beautiful volleys together. So Pat's tennis is just great and more fun to watch, IMO. But of course, I'm a big clay tennis fan, so most of players that I like are claycourters, which also explain why I don't like American players, cos as we all know, Americans sucks on clay. :D

:) my sentiments exactly, Vera! for years i didn't watch men's tennis because pete was too boring and won EVERYTHING! too bad because i kind of missed rafter at the time and when i finally started to watch pat it was getting too late and now he's otherwise occupied :(

i also like the claycourt season and maybe once in my life i'd like to see a clay tourney in europe -- love the way the players play on that surface -- it's so neat and... well, earthy!! love the sliding! the spanish guys slide the best -- and rogi and marat are getting better all the time on clay. so cool when players win on various surfaces! it's very cool!

i like variety and that's why i like rogi -- he's not just a boring baseliner on one surface. he does everything well. love his S&V net game... oh well i could go on ad nauseum!:p

I don't know, I just love organ music, maybe bcos it's Bach. I like it bcos it's just powerful, or maybe I should say dignify. And I'm not or organist, not even a church goer.

West Coast's weather. Hehehe, you won't believe, we have beautiful sunny day, day after day this fall. This is good fortune for us, since the whole summer and fall so far, there's very little rain. It's just beautiful out there. The maple is turning orange red and with the sun, the temp is pretty high, at around 15 day time, some ppl are still wearing spagetti straps out there (well, not me, I'm always a little cold). How bout big TO?

I lived in SF before, it's really beautiful there too, but Vancouver is still more beautiful IMO, I think the sight of ocean and ski mountain in one view makes it all the more spectular.

It is constantly over 38C from June to August. This year is so hot that September is the same. It just cool down for 2 weeks. Since this is a desert here, it is dry heat too so it's not that bad.

no spaghetti straps here! rather chilly around 8 degrees or so and cloudy w some sunny breaks -- i sound like a weather report!

Sevilla averages about 45 in summer but Madrid also is hot in summer -- up to 45 degrees even in the middle of the country!!

I don't like the humidity here in the E -- it's horrid! At the tennis in TO this summer it was 42 deg and humid and smoggy -- unbearable really!! I almost died but I was stoic! Didn't want to faint in front of all those tennis players!!;) [then again, maybe i should have fainted... ]:p

Are you ready to cheer on our Rogi? Wonder who they'll show tomorrow on TV here. Saw part of poor Nico's match. Oh well. Lleyton has the 1st set. Hope Rogi's over his disappointment of Basel.

Funny on that UEFA show on FC Basel/Barca, they were describing Basel as "staid and rather quiet"! Also they said the Swiss were "pragmatic"!! And they show them in the cafes reading their newspapers. Well, I don't think Rogi is staid!! He's pretty exciting for a Swiss, no? Lucky him, with a dual passport! You know what I like about Rogi's appearance (besides everything), he's dark -- he isn't pale. Nice warm brown skin... ;)

And they show them in the cafes reading their newspapers. Well, I don't think Rogi is staid!! He's pretty exciting for a Swiss, no? Lucky him, with a dual passport! You know what I like about Rogi's appearance (besides everything), he's dark -- he isn't pale. Nice warm brown skin... ;)

Maybe if he has too much sun, but in Basel i thought he was a bit pale...dual passport, huh? I got two of those as well. ;)

Good luck with his match tomorrow, but i don't know if they'll show it on tv here, we'll see...

As for Basel being 'staid & quiet', the elder Yakin brother was showing his hot Turkish blood, or maybe because they were playing on home soil, and almost had a fight with one of the Valencia guys...

Just a part of the preview for tomorrow's match from the atp site.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, now in fourth place in the ATP Champions Race, has been on a tear in recent weeks, fighting hard for one of the six remaining spots in Shanghai. The Spaniard reached the semifinals last week in Basel, the quarterfinals in Madrid the week before, and won the title in Hong Kong earlier this fall. With the way he's playing, he seems destined to remain in Paris for extended play.

But of all the seeds, he has one of the most dangerous second-round encounters. He takes on Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan, who's been on a tear of his own, winning his second title of the year last week in Stockholm, and also gutting it out to the quarterfinals in Madrid. Ferrero defeated Srichaphan last year in Hong Kong - their only previous meeting - but that was before the Thai believed he could not only challenge the top players, but defeat them. This early-round meeting could easily turn into the match of the day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Wimby, Paradorn took out some Top 10 players, including Hewitt in Tokyo, Safin in Tashkent, Haas in Long Island and Tim in Madrid. Okay, my point is, none of them are really in form...so a in form Juan Carlos is not going to be easy for Srichaphan. I'm just trying to make myself relax a little about his match tomorrow. I think he can beat Srichaphan. Juanqui is far superior.

I understand your nervousness about the match. I'm nervous too. I think Juan Carlos is a better player, too, but I'm not quite willing to put my money where my mouth is on this one. It's just too close to call.

Suffice to say I think it will be another three-set thriller that I probably won't be around for

actually Paradorn never beat Haas. Tommy withdrew before that match in Long Island.

speaking of the German, he opens tomorrow against Hrbaty. this is do or die for Tommy. i really hope he can do well and qualify for Shanghai. the only problem is that he and Juanqui are in the same quarter. :( (have i said that i hate this fucking draw?) :fiery:

GO TOMMY! :bounce:

Well, I certainly won't bet my life on any result tomorrow. I must say, knowing me, always a little pessimistic, I'm giving the edge to Srichaphan. But having said that, he seems unstoppable, only bcos we just don't expect that bcos he's still a relative newcomer. But we expect Juanqui to do well bcos he's a top player.

Enough of my mumbling. I'm sure I'll be here tomorrow, nervously watching the scoreboard. But maybe it's better to not look and just find the result later.

Yeah, I'm worried, too. Unfortunately, the only other player I've ever felt that way about is Gonzo :( So don't go on my feelings, LOL.

Yeah, I don't know if it's better to watch the scoreboard obsessively or to not look. If I'm legitimately busy and don't have time to think about it, I like too miss the whole emotional upheaval.

On the other hand, it's kinda nice, I feel like a real fan if I obsessively watch the scoreboard :o:o:o

:) Yes, too many nice places to visit in the world!! Nice pic of James in Paris -- Notre Dame looks so clean! How unusual! But there's almost always scaffolding! And sun -- also unusual for Paris. The real Paris is covered in mist or better, rain!

Beautiful city -- full of famous monuments! Lots of atmosphere!

Juanqui won't potentially meet Haas until Semis?? That's if Haas gets by Hrbaty -- depends on his shoulder. He wasn't looking too clever in Madrid. Also, if Haas does beat Dominik, then he has to play -- Rogi!?! Rogi has to beat Malisse!!

I say forget Tommy this year -- he hasn't even won a tournament (like Marat)!

No, my faves are, after Marat (if he wins tomorrow he's in), Rogi and Juanqui -- Juanqui only has to win tomorrow too!!!:p

Too nervewracking a tournament this year -- last yr was so DULL!

Anyway, back to Paris... I've been at Christmas in the rain, in June in the heat and sun, in Fall in pretty good weather! Just spring -- I have to go at that time of year! What about RG?? Must be a zoo!! Rather go to Wimby. ;)

Hello! :wavey:
Just stepping in for some minutes before bed. ;)
Ill leave you all a present. I dont remember if Layla posted it the other day, but its never too much. :p

Once divided...nothing left to subtract...
Some words when spoken...can't be taken back...
Walks on his own...with thoughts he can't help thinking...
Future's above...but in the past he's slow and sinking...
Caught a bolt 'a lightnin'...cursed the day he let it go...

Nothingman... (2x)
Isn't it something?
Nothingman...

She once believed...in every story he had to tell...
One day she stiffened...took the other side...
Empty stares...from each corner of a shared prison cell...
One just escapes...one's left inside the well...
And he who forgets...will be destined to remember...oh...oh...oh...

Nothingman... (2x)
Isn't it something?
Nothingman...

Oh, she don't want him...
Oh, she won't feed him...after he's flown away...
Oh, into the sun...ah, into the sun...

Burn...burn...
Nothingman... (2x)
Isn't it something?
Nothingman...
Nothingman... (2x)
Coulda' been something...
Nothingman...
Oh...ohh...ohh...

Hi leo7

Wasn't that Pat match the best? He was SO incredible! I often watch what little I have of Pat... esp. when there's no tennis or just dull tennis... ;)

You know, tennis without Pat -- there's something lacking -- some spark, some excitement, some bloody good tennis! Pat has class, talent, looks, heart -- and he gets on w the job!

Have you seen his QF vs. Juanqui in Montreal01? A great match! But I just love when he beats AA -- two yrs in a row at Wimby -- pretty damn fab! [and AA was his usual AA self in 2000]

Oh my.... I'm starting to think you all post faster than the Lleyki forest occupants these days! :o

:wavey: Hello again, just thought I'd pop in and make some responses, LOL. Hope everyone is having a great day! :)

Awwww, you play the violin. That is amazing. I wish I played an instrument. I even considered buying a violin at one point and learning how to play, but I don't think my neighbours would agree (I live in an apartment building). What do you mean used to, don't you play anymore?

I'm more of a piano person myself, but a violin can also pull at my heartstrings. The Romantic era is my favorite. But I don't know nearly as much about classical music as you do. I'm more of a recreational listener. I listen to so many different types of music that sometimes classical music doesn't find its way to my cd player for quite a while.

The reason I stopped playing is basically very close to the reason you aren't starting to play. I moved on campus in the final year of my undergraduate degree, and I didn't think the people I lived with would appreciate me doing 1-2 hours of practice a day, so unfortunately I stopped. It is a real shame though, I was starting to approach the level where I was attempting 'real' pieces, and I hope I can resume playing again some day. I still dust off and toy with my violin once in a while, but my years of not practicing then demonstrates itself in a most shamefully obvious manner! :o :p

I am also a bit lazy when it comes to changing the CDs in my tray, and once I settle on a CD, it tends to stay there for a while! Haha. But in general, besides the stacks of classical CDs my collection is quite eclectic. I have a good deal of dance/techno... and other bands such as Ben Folds Five, The Living End, You Am I.... I also have a Faith No More CD (Angel Dust) which I particularly like.

See you around. A raver ey? I admire men who can dance. Gosh, it's been ages since I've gone out to dance all night. I miss those days too.

How I miss the all-night parties. Feels like a lifetime ago sometimes! My contacts have been giving me trouble this year and so I've reverted (temporarily, I hope) to my glasses, and I also stopped bleaching my hair last year. My boss (I'm currently a research/teaching assistant in math at a local university here) told me recently that I'm starting to look like an academic, and even though I do hope to become a college professor someday, my vain inner voice is still present for now, and yelled, 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' :p

Welcome, Peedy

I went through a major Grieg phase in high school, but I don't know if I'm familiar with this violin concerto that you speak of.

Thanks for the welcome, TennisHack! :) Well... my classical music tastes are slightly specialized.... if you attempt to test my knowledge of stuff outside the violin repertoire... I'll stumble fairly frequently! LOL

Wow! What are your thoughts on Vivaldi?

I've always wanted to play a classical stringed instrument, I didn't care which one.

And just to throw this in, my favorite pianist is (no surprise) Sergei Rachmaninov. I have four of his piano concertos and they are just wonderful.

Vivaldi? In general, I've always been amazed by the intricate structure in compositions by Baroque composers, but I feel it makes them harder to play... for me anyway, it's a lot more challenging to do those pieces justice technically, and yet at the same time express myself through them. I feel more 'connected' to the music when listening or playing (well, attempting to anyway :p ) Romantic-era pieces. But that's just me, I'm a goober, as Angele would say! Nevertheless, Vivaldi and Bach are brilliant, if you like Baroque music and you don't have a recording of Bach's Six Solo Sonatas and Partitas for Unaccompanied Violin, I strongly recommend looking for one. They are amazing: he's composing in 4-part harmony for a single violin. The Chaconne from the D Minor Partita is superlative.

:hearts: I love Rachmaninov's piano concertos! Practically on top of my list of my all-time favourite CD's is a 2-CD set I have of his four piano concertos, and the Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini, performed by Rachmaninov himself!! They were digitally remastered recordings of performances he gave between 1929 and the early 40s and so the sound quality is not brilliant, but the fact that it is Rachmaninov himself playing more than makes up for it.

Anyway, :wavey: to all of you, I have to go now.

Well, no worries of that. I don't know a lot about the technical side of classical music, I just know what I like to listen to.

Vivaldi? No, it's not!! I think part of the reason that I adore Vivaldi and listening to The Four Seasons is because the work is so intricate, so difficult, yet so expressive at the same time. I could never play one of his solos, and that just makes me appreicate it more :)

:hearts: I love Rachmaninov's piano concertos! Congrats Tommy and Roger! :bounce:

Way to go Timmy!

Marat's match has just started, so GO MARAT!

Lol, I'm cheering for all the contenders for Shanghai spots. That can't be right. :p

There's only one contender I care about at the moment and that's JUAN CARLOS FERRERO! :D So without further ado...

VAMOS JUANQUI!!!

I have to say I definitely prefer to watch the scoreboard than be left in the dark and then tremble to check out the result. I like to know what's going on in a match. That said, I might not be home tonight, depending on what time the match starts. :( I hope I'll be here, cheering him on. I'm nervous as hell. I agree that Juanqui is the better player, but that's not always good enough to win on a given day. However, this being the first match for Juanqui, I'm pretty sure he'll win it. He's too hungry for Masters' Cup to lose. ;)

I think the wta section of gotennis has gotten a lot better and yeah it's true that there are wars on wtaworld, but there are also a lot of really nice, friendly and funny people, so if you can learn to ignore the potential landmines and dreadful threads, it's a very enjoyable experience, at least I've found it to be so in the past week. :)

The song Hitman posted is called Nothingman by Pearl Jam. :) And thank you for that Hitman. :D

That pic of Arnaud Clement without his glasses is to die for. :hearts: If I'm not mistaken, he did try to use contacts but had too many problems with them, hence those weird glasses. It's not easy paying with contacts. I remember one match early this year, in which Goran Ivanisevic lost his contact lens at least 4 times. It was quite annoying and he had to play a whole game with one contact, which really screws up your vision as anyone who's ever had them will be able to tell you. I used to wear contacts too, but all the hours staring at the computer have taken their toll and now my eyes are often tired as it is, without forcing a foreign object into them.

Those b/w pics are really beautiful. And omg Edberg is so gorgeous. :hearts:

It's not easy paying with contacts. I remember one match early this year, in which Goran Ivanisevic lost his contact lens at least 4 times. It was quite annoying and he had to play a whole game with one contact, which really screws up your vision as anyone who's ever had them will be able to tell you. I used to wear contacts too, but all the hours staring at the computer have taken their toll and now my eyes are often tired as it is, without forcing a foreign object into them.

Those b/w pics are really beautiful. And omg Edberg is so gorgeous. :hearts:

Glad to have another b/w pic fans here.

I know the troubles of contacts too. I gave up many years ago and it's OK when I lived in Canada. Now I have to put up with those contacts again here in Arizona. It's even worse when you have astigmatism.

All my close relatives who passed away were died of cancer especially my father. My only consolation is the patients do not have to suffer anymore with the pain once they pass away.

yeah thats true.My grandma was really happy(well not happy obv but you'll see what I mean) because she was asleep at 3am this morning and she happened to wake up,so s he went downstairs to see how he was.She sat on his bed, holding his hand and talking to him.He tried to say something to her but couldnt speak. Then he took one last breath and that was it.It all happened in 2 minutes. She thinks he waited for her to be there before he passed away and says its fate.He also had a smile on his face :) We were all deeply saddened, but relieved he wasn't going through any pain or anything

Yeah, I know there are still lots of good guys and gays there like you and Leo, but there are too many landmines as compare to good threads and usually a good thread end up as a landmine there.

It's OK to cry. Just make sure you also have enough rest and do not wear yourself out. If you want to talk, I can stay here for a while.

My guest is using my hubby's car and exploring the museums and art galleries himself. He is an artist and I believe he rather do all these on his own than have me as company. I basically provide bed & breakfast here.

I am sorry for your lost Mrs. B. I lost my first cousin a month ago to cancer too.

That's okey, sweetie. I know how you feel. I did that as well, tried to look for a picture of him but i don't have one over here. But i'll come home for Xmas and will visit his grave. You know they called me here on my cellphone as they were in the cemetery to bury him. I thought that was pretty nice of my other brother to do that. Then i put on that music from Les Miserable on my cd player, the one "Bring Him Home", sung by Valjean, and i wept and wept and wept. Sorry to bring this up, but i really miss him and also because i haven't seen him since last year in April.

 what an upsetting conversation and its all my fault!:o The thing is though,it happened so quickly.Only 2 months ago he was well and happy even though he knew he had cancer.I remember it being 2 months because he cried when I showed him my piercing because it must have hit him that I was growing up and that he wouldnt be able to see me grow up properly. Not just me,but all 5 of his grandchildren. He also had 3 children, obv one being my mum.Theres nothing else you can do but cry and look through old photos and belongings etc.Its awful.
