I'm actually quite short, so to answer your question, no, nobody is too short for me. (well... maybe I shouldn't say nobody). And he's cute. And a wonderful player to watch. I hope he gets into top 50 so I can buy him for my team. :D

here is an article:

Hingis, Morariu given US Open wild cards
August 16, 2002

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Martina Hingis was given one of eight wild-card entries into the US Open on Thursday. The 1997 champion needed the special invitation because she didn't register by the deadline last month, while she was recovering from ankle surgery in May.

Also getting a wild card was Corina Morariu, who will play in her first Grand Slam tournament since the 2001 Australian Open after being diagnosed with acute promyelocitic leukemia. Now in remission, Morariu returned to competitive play in July.

Hingis, formerly ranked No. 1, missed the French Open and Wimbledon this year, the first Grand Slam tournaments she has missed since turning pro in 1994.

On Thursday in Montreal, she'll play only her second match since the surgery against Clarisa Fernandez, who made a surprising run to the semifinals of the French. Hingis also plans to play at the Pilot Pen in New Haven, Conn., next week in order to get more match play and test her ankle.

The US Open main draw starts Aug. 26.

Cliff: Well, Patrick, it certainly has been an eventful day.

PMac: That's right, Cliff. The Corretja-Pavel match was quite entertaining! In the first set, Corretja was up 5-0, then suddenly looked sick to his stomach and proceeded to lose the next two games, one when he was serving for the set. During the medical time out, while he was waiting for the trainer to get there from Stadium Court (Marcelo Rios was bitching at Dougy Spreen about a new knee pad), like magic, Alex looked better and insisted on a normal changeover time.

Cliff: Perhaps more amazing, Pavel didn't object.

PMac: Corretja went on to take the first set, 6-2, and the second 6-3. A routine win for him today, though he played up to the crowd a little.

Cliff: So did Pavel. (Video of Pavel making faces and exchanging words after good points with Corretja)

PMac: Juan Carlos Ferrero also had a good win earlier today, defeating Fabrice Santoro convincingly--6-3, 6-3. He was playing very well. His game was tight for the whole match, as he made only 10 unforced errors!

Cliff: Now, Patrick, these two are headed right for each other in the draw, they are seeded to meet in the semifinals. They have been the talk of the tournament so far. As we told you earlier, Juan Carlos Ferrero has levied a fine of $1 million for refusing to speak to the media about his wife's escapades. (The same video as before Juan Carlos's match is played again.) Alex Corretja has been dragged into this because he's been seen with Layla Ferrero on the grounds here. (A bad picture of Layla flashes on screen as the boys discuss her :D)

PMac: Juan Carlos has been spotted with someone else as well. It's quite the story, since both Ferrero & Corretja are private guys. One has to wonder why they are suddenly airing their laundry in public.

Cliff: One also has to wonder if either of them have looked past their possible semifinal clash. Waiting in the wings could be Carlos Moya.

PMac: That's right, Cliff. Moya has decimated his half of the draw, taking out former world #1 Lleyton Hewitt in three tough sets; then "the second Goran", Mario Ancic, in three sets as well, 7-6 in the third. That was a close match, I really believed Ancic could pull it off, but he ran out of gas at the end.

Cliff: It was a good showing by the Croat. Ancic has only gotten better since the U.S. Open '02, where he made a run to the Round of 16 as a qualifier.

PMac: Moya plays Agassi in the third round here in Canada, Cliff. Agassi is a former top player himself, though he's struggled a bit in the majors.

Cliff: Do you think he was broken when Safin defeated him in the final of the Open in '02? (;))

PMac: I think he had to take a long assessment of his career, Cliff. He took time off last year when Steffi gave birth to their second child--a daughter--and seems to have come back strong this year, winning in Scottsdale & LA.

Cliff: His best showing this year in a major was at Wimbledon, when he got to the quarterfinals. Tim Henman managed to clip him there in a long, tough battle.

PMac: Indeed. He's taken time off since Wimbledon, and has played some good, if long, matches here in Canada. I think he'll give Moya a good test. I'd even give him a chance to win it, Cliff.

Cliff: I'm not sure about that, Patrick, Moya has turned hard courts into his best surface. Either way, that's how it's looking here in Canada. Ferrero & Corretja through to the third round and headed right for each other in the draw; Carlos Moya waiting on the other side. We'll see you tomorrow!

Cliff: A warm hello to our audience today here at the Tennis Masters Series Canada. We have third round coverage for you today. Today's feature match is James Blake vs Paradorn Srichaphan.

PMac: That's right, Cliff. This is going to be a tough match for James. Srichaphan (he mangles it horribly) has always given Blake fits, especially after that great Washington win in 2002. Paradorn has even taken some matches from Blake since then.

Cliff: Other matches for the day: Alex Corretja vs Stefan Koubek on Court #1, and Juan Carlos Ferrero vs Thomas Johansson on the Grandstand.

PMac: Well, Cliff, Koubek's always tough on the hard courts. He's a solid player, the type to wear his opponent down. He doesn't have much firepower off the ground, but he can run down a lot of balls. Corretja will have his work cut out for him.

Cliff: What about Juan Carlos?

PMac: You know, Johansson has been struggling with injuries the past few years. He Grand Slam wins down under were abberations to the sport--I think we were all surprised when he successfully defended his Australian Open title twice in a row.

Cliff: Taking out Tommy Haas last year, and former world #1 Lleyton Hewitt this year.

PMac: Right. But Thomas can give his opponent problems, especially when he's on his serve. He also loves a target up at the net. Ferrero will also have a difficult match. (There's something in his voice as he says this, as if he wants one of the Spaniards to lose  )

Cliff: We'll be bringing you full coverage of James Blake when we return.

--------------------------------------------------

Hackie wanders the tournament grounds, milling with the crowds. She doesn't like to watch her love Juan Carlos play, she's too afraid she'd jinx him. She was stunned and disappointed when her attempt to sabatoge Corretja's match backfired, but she saw the highlights that night--she found that Layla was onto her :fiery: But as long as Juan Carlos was still in the tournament, she was quite content to wander the grounds, worrying her brains out.

Hackie notices the same tall, blonde left-hander in a match on one of the outside courts. She approaches the fence to watch (standing room only) and after a few games, learns he is Jarkko Nieminen. Jarkko seems to be enjoying himself on the court, playing toe-to-toe with the other player, Max Mirnyi. She smiles to herself, quite enjoying the feeling she has as she watches the impossibly blonde boy.

Restless, she leaves as Jarkko ties the first set at 3. She mills around some more, barely noticing as the wind picks up considerably. The next thing she nows, it's dark as night, black storm clouds gathering in the sky threatening to litter rain, and maybe even hail, upon the minions below.

Hackie becomes nervous.

As the first raindrops fall, she ducks for cover under one of the stands. She notes large crowds of people leaving the stadium under umbrellas, and suddenly her heart is struck with fear, deep, dark and black, that she'd only known once before.

As the crowds thicken, Hackie runs screaming towards the Grandstand Court. The rain is coming fast and furious now, lightning streaking the sky, thunder rolling.

She runs onto the now-empty court, fear and despair growing as she realizes her love Juan Carlos is nowhere to be found--or anyone else for that matter. She moves to the net, thoroughly soaked.

Hackie cries and curls down, fingering the net like a lost child. She hears someone shouting for her--

Hac-kie! Hac-kie!

Juan Carlos has braved the rain to find her! She waves to him as he walks onto the court.

She is so grateful to see him, and of course he only looks sexier in the rain :D She kisses him, at first happy to not be alone, but then passionately. He breaks away and hugs her tightly.

I was afraid I'd lost you.

Hackie yawns and turns on her side. She opens her eyes, surprised for a moment that she is lying on the softest mattress she'd ever imagined. She moves a bit and notices her clothes rumpled on the floor  Looking around suspciously, she very gently turns completely around in the bed.

Her love Juan Carlos is facing her, asleep. He looks so angelic , as if a worry had never creased his brow. His head is turned slightly down, so it is somewhat of a chore to kiss him on the lips.

He stirs, then opens his eyes and smiles.

Juan Carlos: Hello.

Hackie: Hello.

Juan Carlos moves closer, to hug her. Hackie is filled with a great peace, but this makes her anxious. For her whole life, she's never felt "well" or even "still". She tries to shrug it off, however, touching his face.

We've got the afternoon ;)
You've got this room for two
One thing I've left to do
Discover me discovering you :o

One mouth to every inch of
Your skin like porcelian
One pair of candied lips  and
Your bubblegum tongue :lick:

And if you want love
We'll make it
Swin in a deep sea
of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break them
This is bound to be awhile

Your body is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder
I'll use my hands
Your body is a wonderland

Something 'bout the way
Your hair falls in your face
I love the shape you take
When crawling towards the pillowcase

You tell me where to go and
Though I might leave to find it
I'll never let your head hit the bed
Without my hand behind it

And if you want love
We'll make it
Swin in a deep sea
of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break them
This is bound to be awhile

Your body is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder
I'll use my hands
Your body is a wonderland

Damn, baby
You frustrate me
I know you're mine
All mine
All mine
But you look so good
It hurts sometimes ;)

Juan Carlos blushes.

Your body is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder
I'll use my hands
Your body is a wonderland

Do I have to tell the story
of a thousand rainy days
Since we first met?
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me
that ends up getting wet

Juan Carlos laughs and smiles.

Juan Carlos: I have to play my match today!

Hackie: I know. But I'll still be here.

Juan Carlos: Of course, I don't have to leave quite yet . . .

LMAO - this is VINTAGE Patty Mac :D He will talk about how someone has been just mowing down their opponents - then you see that all thier matches were tight three setters and are left thinking: "wtf?" :D

Layla is mighty pleased with herself for helping Alex win that match, and more importantly, for outsmarting the other woman. :p She decides to celebrate the festive occasion with a drink. Unfortunately, she has quite forgotten the effect drinking has on her. After a couple of cocktails with names she never even heard of before, she stumbles out of the bar without even noticing that it has started to pour. Only after she is thoroughly drenched to the bone does she realize it’s raining. The rain immediately sours her mood as she remembers the first time she met Juanqui in Umag.

Moya was the king of Umag of course, king of the nightclubs, king of the hearts and king of the centre court. All the local women were crazy about him, but Layla was immediately drawn to a shy, unassuming and unbearably sexy guy dancing all by himself while most members of the female population all but stripped themselves naked to get Moya’s attention. Layla thanked her lucky stars that not many casual tennis fan knew about Ferrero at the time. Now it would be a different story of course, which is part of the reason she never let her husband go back to Umag.

With a sharp pang she remembers that she would never again stop him from going anywhere and she leans on the nearest wall. Before she knows it, she’s singing again.

the wind is ruthless
the trees shake angry fingers at the sky
the people hunch their shoulders
hold their collars over their ears and run by
it's a cold rain
it's a hard rain
like the kind that you find in songs
i guess that makes me the jerk with the heartache
here to sing you about how i've been done wrong :fiery:

and i am sitting, watching
out the window of the coffee shop
and i am waiting, waiting
waiting for it to let up :(
i am rocking like a cradle
warming my hands with the cup in between
i am leaning over the table
holding my face over the steam :o

and before it gets so cold
that the rain turns to snow
there's just a couple things
i'd like to know

like how could you do nothing
and say, i'm doing my best
how could you take almost everything
and then come back for the rest
how could you beg me to stay,
reach out your hands and plead
and then pack up your eyes and run away
as soon as i agreed :fiery:

it just all slips
away so slowly
you don't even notice till you've lost a lot
i've been like one of those zombies
in vegas
pouring quarters into a slot
and now i'm tired
and i am broke :(
and i feel stupid and i feel used
and i'm at the end of my little rope
and i am swinging back and forth
about you

before it gets so cold
that the rain turns to snow

The rain delay forces Juan Carlos to ponder about his miserable love life again. Only on the court is he able to dismiss the gloomy thoughts that haunt him night and day. No matter what he might do or say ;) he misses Layla terribly, yet has no idea what to do. The thought of her sleeping with his best friend is driving him crazy, but more than anything, he longs to be able to forgive her. Of course it doesn’t occur to him that Layla might not be the one who needs to be forgiven, because he did not technically  cheat on her, at least not physically. As he walks around the grounds he hears a familiar voice singing and it pierces his heart with a sadness such as he had never heard before. “I can’t take this anymore” he cries. “My wife is hurting and I need to make her pain go away. And my. Oh this is ridiculous, I’ll just ask her to take me back.”

He walks up to his wife but doesn’t notice how drunk she is. He touches her hand gently but she is so startled she snatches it away. Not that she wouldn’t snatch it if she saw him coming.

Come on Layla, let’s put a stop to this madness. I can’t leave without you. I don’t care what you did, I just want you back.

Fiery red flames escape from Layla’s eyes but they are not the fames of passion. Making her sound like the bad guy in this doesn’t exactly agree with her, so she proceeds to tell him a piss of her mind. Had she been sober she probably wouldn’t spew all her rage in such an unseemly manner, but then again she might.

think i'm going for a walk now :p
i feel a little unsteady
i don't want nobody to follow me
'cept maybe you
i could make you happy you know :)
if you weren't already
i could do a lot of things
and i do

tell you the truth i prefer
the worst of you
too bad you had to have a better half
she's not really my type
but i think you two are forever :p
and i hate to say it but
you're perfect together

so fuck you :fiery:
and your untouchable face
and fuck you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can't even tell me that much

two-thirty in the morning
and my gas tank will be empty soon
neon sign on the horizon
rubbing elbows with the moon
a safe haven of sleepless
where the deep fryer's always on
radio is counting down
the top 20 country songs
and out on the porch the fly strip is
waving like a flag in the wind
y'know, i don't look forward
to seeing you again soon
you'll look like a photograph of yourself
taken from far far away
and i won't know what to do
and i won't know what to say :confuse:

except fuck you :fiery:
and your untouchable face
and fuck you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can't even tell me that much

i see you and i'm so perplexed
what was i thinking
what will i think of next
where can i hide
in the back room there's a lamp
that hangs over the pool table
and when the fan is on it swings
gently side to side
there's a changing constellation
of balls as we are playing
i see orion and say nothing
the only thing i can think of saying

is fuck you :fiery:
and your untouchable face
and fuck you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can't even tell me that much

Juan Carlos is taken aback. This is the side of his wife he never expected to see. Her rage spill onto him and into his heart until he is filled with it just like her. Without a word he turns around and runs off thinking that it might be a good idea to forget about her for ever and ever and ever.

Juan Carlos looked down as he bounced the new tennis ball. Practice time was not only a time to think about the match ahead, but also a time to assauge his conscience and assure himself everything was right with the world. Of course, usually everything was right with the world if his conditioning was good, not to mention his confidence. But now, everything was complicated.

He was quite surprised, not to mentioned enraged, when his plea to Layla was dismissed with venom. How could he have not known about this side of her? They were together for so long . . . she was always the sweetest person imaginable . . .

He served as he thought, barely noticing the poor quality.

After being rejected by Layla, it occurred to him that Hackie was nowhere to be found. Now he wished mightily that he had done everything differently, not allowed Hackie to kiss him, not spilled his fear, not taken her home. He had all but ruined his chance of getting Layla back.

On the flip side, Hackie wasn't such a bad companion. She was either quiet as a mouse or loud and fun, singing him silly songs with that beautiful voice. As he retrieves balls from the back of the court, he glances over at her. She's in one of her quiet moods now, curled in his jacket watching Jarkko Nieminen on the next court over.

Juan Carlos looks over at his coach. Antonio is staring at him, mouth agape, arms flailing.

Antonio: Is this what it takes to get your attention nowadays?

Juan Carlos: Sorry. What's wrong?

Antonio (gives him one of those 'duh' looks): What's wrong? Have you even been paying attention to your serving today? It's horrible! The slider out wide is going off-the-charts long, the T serve is in the net every time.

Juan Carlos: I guess I was a bit preoccupied.

Antonio glances at Hackie, then marches over to Juan Carlos and lowers his voice.

Antonio: Look, I don't know what's going on in your life, but you can't let it distract you on court. (Another glance to Hackie.) Though I never figured you for a one night stand type.

Juan Carlos: It's not her I'm worried about, it's Layla. She's gone. Maybe for good.

Antonio : I know she's with Corretja now, but you have your own new girlfriend! At any rate, you've got to concentrate on your tennis if you want to continue into the week! Now pay attention, and give me some more serves!

Antonio walks back to the other side of the court. Juan Carlos sighs, rolls his own eyes, and continues with his drills.

Juan Carlos hasn't lost to Wayne Arthurs yet (they've played twice, both best-of-three). I don't think Mr. "All Serve No Shots" will give him too much trouble in best-of-five ::crosses fingers just in case::

Hmmm hmmm hmmm.

Hackie wanders aimlessly through the hair care aisle of the local market. She was humming a nameless tune as she looked over the boxes of hair dye.

She stops suddenly and picks up a box that promises the same impossibly blonde shade that was Jarkko Nieminen's natural color. She studies it carefully as Juan Carlos laughs.

Juan Carlos: Oh, no, not that blonde!

Hackie smiles and laces her arm through his, still holding the box.

Hackie: You promised me if you won your match against Corretja, you'd dye your hair blonde again.

Juan Carlos: Let's not get too carried away, though. I like Jarkko's hair, too, but not on me :D

Hackie shrugs and replaces the box. They continue down the aisle, still arm in arm. Hackie is looking at the dye boxes, but Juan Carlos is having a hard time concentrating on the task at hand. He's just glad the market isn't busy, he's had enough autograph seekers the whole tournament to last him a lifetime.

Hackie looks at him from the corner of her eye and notices he's not having much fun. She doesn't like this.

Hackie: Hey, look at this!!

She pulls Juan Carlos past the hair dyes, onto the revolving column of glasses. She picks out a boxy, black pair and puts them on. Juan Carlos laughs at her expression. She turns to him.

What's with these homies, dissin' my girl?
Why do they gotta front?
What did we ever do to these guys
That made them so violent?

(Woo-hoo) But you know I'm yours ;)

Oo-ee-oo, I look just like Buddy Holly
Oh-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore
I don't care what they say about us anyway
I don't care about that

Juan Carlos bursts out laughing. Hackie smiles, and they begin to dance in the middle of the aisle.

Don't you ever fear, I'm always near ;)
I know that you need help
Your tongue is twisted, your eyes are slit :o
You need a guardian :D

(Woo-hoo) And you know I'm yours ;)
(Woo-hoo) And I know you're mine :hearts:
(Woo-hoo, and that's for all time)

Oo-ee-oo, I look just like Buddy Holly
Oh-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore
I don't care what they say about us anyway
I don't care about that
I don't care about that

Bang! Bang! Knock on the door
Another big bang and your down on the floor
Oh no! What do we do? :o
Don't look now but I lost my shoe :D
I can't run and I can't kick
What's a matter babe are you feelin' sick?
What's a matter, what's a matter, what's a matter you?
What's a matter babe, are you feelin' blue?

Oo-ee-oo, I look just like Buddy Holly
Oh-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore
I don't care what they say about us anyway
I don't care about that
I don't care about that

Juan Carlos dips her and laughs out loud. He kisses her.

What would I do without you?

Hackie's face lights up, and suddenly Juan Carlos really wonders what he'd do without her. She'd lightened his days since Layla left, and been a kind, genuine companion. Was it really so terrible that he continue seeing her?

Hackie pulls the blonde dye from the shelf again.

Juan Carlos: I love you, but no way.

They stare at each other, dye forgotten, when those words slip from his mouth.

sorry i didn't answer this before! well today i went out this afternoon for a little birthday celebration!:bounce: :D i came back home to start reading my book again but fell asleep!lol! the book is mostly about a poor girl, i think 11, and her coming of age or whatever during the early 1900's. right now it's really boring cos they're still introducing the characters. i want something to happen!

i'm not worried about Wayne, Ferrero's return is too good for his 2nd serves! i'm more worried about Fernando Gonzalez in the 3rd round! that kid's got serious game! that backhand down the line is just WOW! but overall i like Ferrero's quarter too. i would love for him to beat Marat in the Quarterfinals (yet i don't think Marat will get that far)!

VAMOS Juan Carlos!:bounce:

No we haven't. Howdy! Yes I know Juanqui beat him in Cinci, but I'm still worried. Apparently I'm the only one. But if Arthurs has a good day, he can be dangerous, so I'll be on my toes from the start.

Lleyton and Greg are among my top 5 faves too. That means one of them won't pass the 2nd round. But these things happen all the time. I should really learn to deal with them, I guess. :)

I saw Arthurs, but my mum said that she thought that Arthurs pulled out and that Enqvist was taking his place. Layla wakes up in the middle of the night still every bit as hungover as when she went to bed. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/puke.gif Alex is peacefully snoring away next to her http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/nighty.gif but that’s not the only reason she can’t go back to sleep. She slips out of bed quietly and finds refuge on the balcony. She is terribly upset over what happened yesterday http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/sad2.gif and she would give anything to be able to take her harsh, bitter words back.

Now Juanqui will never want me back. But what he did was unforgievable. Why would I even want him to want me back? Because you love him silly goose. Like many times in the last few days tears start to fall down her cheeks again.

Alex, woken up by her hauntingly beautiful, melancholy voice, gently puts his arms around her and begins to kiss her neck ever so lightly. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/sloppy.gif This brings a smile to Layla’s distraught face and she turns around to give him a long, passionate kiss.[/i] “Now will you tell me what happened?” Alex coaxes. Layla hangs down her head in shame http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/jpshakehead.gif and relates to him how she hurt Juan Carlos and how she is an evil, evil person. :fiery: Alex is secretly rejoicing that she told her husband off like that. It gives him more hope than he ever imagined possible. Besides, he is becoming more and more angry with Juan Carlos. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/madgo.gif He can’t believe he cheated on such a sweet, sweet girl http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/angel.gif and now has the gall to play with her head. But part of him is worried about their friendship. Juan Carlos is a great guy after all and he wouldn’t want to lose him, especially not over a woman. Such breakups are always so final. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/dark2.gif He runs his hand affectionately through Layla’s hair and says: “Look, here’s a piece of advice my mother once gave me. I never believed in it until now. Just hear me out.” He begins to sing in a deep, sexy voice:

If you're down, and confused and you don't remember, who you're talking to. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/huh.gif
Concentration slips away cause your baby is so far away. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/redface2.gif
And there's a rose in a fisted glove, and the eagle flies with the dove.
And if you can't be, with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/love.gif

Don't be angry, don't be sad, don't sit crying over good times you had. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/mecry.gif
There's a man, right next to you and he's just waiting for something to do. :wavey:
And there's a rose in a fisted glove, and the eagle flies with the dove.
And if you can't be, with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/love.gif

Turn your heartache right into joy. You're a girl and he’s a boy.
So get it together, make it nice and you won’t need any more advice. http://www.stopstart.btinternet.co.uk/sm/luvdup.gif
And there's a rose in a fisted glove, and the eagle flies with the dove.
And if you can't be, with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/love.gif

Layla is moved by his words and begins to feel he might be right. As an absolutist when it comes to love, she never thought she would agree with this song, but she could definitely warm up to the idea of waking up in Alex’s arms every morning. He has been nothing but amazing to her and she knows she feels more than gratitude. After the song, Alex looks her in the eyes and says:

“Look, I know you still love him. That’s ok. Such deep feelings can’t just disappear when you want them to. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/egging.gif But I’m here and he’s not. :p I never meant this to be a one-night stand, you should know that. That’s not who I am, no matter what you might have heard. So I guess what I’m asking is what do you want from me?”

Layla
08-24-2002, 05:06 PM
Layla doesn’t have to think. She bursts into an intense, half-jesting, half-earnest rendition of a popular song:

Where have all the good men gone http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/lookaround.gif
And where are all the gods
Where's the street-wise Hercules http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/sprite10.gif

Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream
of what I need

I need a hero http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/bravo.gif
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night

And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy

Layla teases him for wooing her with such a cheesy song by Kurnikova’s loverboy, but her heart is now filled with joy. She throws her arms around him exclaiming “My hero!” :hearts: “Come on honey, let’s go back to bed” he says and sweeps her off her feet and into his strong arms, while she giggles uncontrollably like a schoolgirl. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/lol.gif

i was more disappointed in Lindsay with her poor effort in the 2nd set. after dropping the first set 7-5, she pretty much gave up and she can't do that against Venus.

anyway, she has a nice draw for the US Open, and looks good to reach at least the Semifinals! LET'S GO LINDSAY! you won the US Open in 1998, you can do it again in 2002!:bounce:

Thanks! I know, I'm having so much fun with them. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am to Slave2Safin. :D

I was disappointed too with the way she gave up. I wanted her to fight. I can't believe Venus won 10 games in a row. But did you see the replay of that stupid line call. The ball was a mile in. I've never seen anything like that.

So did you come to cheer me up. :)

Lindsay was so impressive all week. That must have been the all-time greatest come-back. I really hope she can end the Williams tyranny. The Eurosport commentator observed that she is moving much better than she used to. Now, I didn't see her play before, but I tend to agree with my darling commentators. What do you think?

i definitely agree. i saw her matches all week and she looked a step or two quicker!:) in her Quarterfinal against Amelie, she hit a fantastic forehand passing shot on the run that gave her the break of serve and eventually the match! she is looking very fit and in shape.

as for greatest comebacks, Monica Seles' comeback after the stabbing to win the 1996 AO was amazing. so was Cappy's dream run at the AO 2001!

Hey Layla,

I like your last episode of Alex and Layla, you are a romantic. Those songs, are they real songs or did you write them? (Well, I'm not very updated with pop music.).

Layla
08-24-2002, 09:24 PM
Hi Vera :wavey:

Thanks. Yes I'm definitely a romantic. All those songs are real songs. The story started as a karaoke routine (cause I love to sing) and evolved into a full-blown story, where the songs we choose are essential to the story. Part of the fun is to search for the appropriate songs. It can be really hard sometimes, but fortunately, I'm a music buff and listen to a huge variety of styles and artists. :)

Vera
08-24-2002, 09:35 PM
Well, like I said, you are good. So is TH. But he's away, isn't he? Have you seen the movie "Moulin Rouge"? I didn't like musical that much but I love Moulin Rouge because I thought it's cool to turn all those pop music to fit into the movie (And I also like Ewen McGregor). And that's what you are doing now. It's great fun.

Layla
08-24-2002, 09:48 PM
I was just reminded of Moulin Rouge yesterday, because I borrowed it for my brother. It occured to me that the idea of this movie is similar to ours. I like Ewan McGregor too. Have you seen Emma? I love that movie, I've seen it at least 6 times already, but probably more. I'm in love with Jeremy Northam. :hearts: Well, not really, but he is adorable. :)

Btw, TH is a she. ;)

Vera
08-24-2002, 10:01 PM
Oooops. Sorry TH.

Ya, I've seen Emma. I actually love those mid-century England era movie, is there a term for those? Jeremy Northam is quite yum. I love Shakespear in Love (Joe Finnes is really Fine!!!) and A Room with a View (because Helena Bonham Carter is so, so English, and such a good actress).

Layla
08-24-2002, 10:13 PM
Joseph Feinnes! Now you're talking. I've seen both of those movies at least 6 times too. Now this will sound like I enjoy multiple viewings of all movies, but I only watch those I really, really like. I have a thing for those English period pieces myself (I don't know the correct term for them). A Room with a View was one of the first I remember.

Vera
08-24-2002, 10:25 PM
You have great taste.
I love English accent, so stylish and elegant. And I think those "Mid Era" movies are particularly romantic. I don't usually watch movie more than once, unless they are just too resistible, like "Shakespear in Love", "Elizebeth", "A Room with A View". I like "The ideal Husband" too. Or maybe I should say I like those especially the classical comedy type.

And Joseph Finnes is my number favorite. He's all style. Those eyes can melt people. I should go watch Shakespear again.

Layla
08-24-2002, 10:35 PM
OMG, Joseph's eyes. :hearts: I love men with an intense gaze. That's why I like Andy Garcia too. I also prefer intelligent, well-read actors. Speaking of mid era movies, have you seen Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, the miniseries. There are two versions of it. I saw the first one (several times) when I was a teenager, because there were frequent reruns. But since the new (1990s) version came out with Colin Firth, I can't find that first one anywhere and I would love to see it again. But the new one is also great. :D

Vera
08-24-2002, 10:45 PM
Joseph's eye, sigh! Andy Garcia is very sweet, I feel so sad when I watched "When a man loves a woman". I'm sure he's like the main character, so devoted to love.

I haven't seen the first one but I surely seen the new one with Colin Firth. I admit that I'm a little obsess with English men, that lovely accent. They are as great looking as Spanish men.

But I don't get to see too many British TV here in Canada. We got loads of US TV but not much of other thing else.

Layla
08-24-2002, 11:11 PM
Yes, I understand your obsession. ;) The accent is great, I admit. Colin Firth was so hilarious and so sexy in Bridget Jones. *sigh*

I guess we do have more British TV shows and series over here in Europe, although not nearly enough, if you ask me.

If you're talking about the one the BBC did, and I think you are, one of my roommates *loves* that movie and has it on videotape. We watched it last year and I agree, it's gorgeous. All of those movies the BBC does (and A&E shows here in the States) are really beautiful :)

Yeah the smilies are hilarious but you could never be boring I'm afraid. ;)

You came back just in time to join us in drooling over British movies and actors. :) I was going to say Victorian pieces, but then Jane Austen for instance isn't really Victorian. But Victorian sounds good to me.

No I haven't seen Victoria and Albert. Do you know who's in it?

Have you read both Bridget Jones books? In the second one Bridget does an interview with the "real" Colin Firth. It was so funny I was in tears. When Colin was asked about this potential problem in the sequel (the movie), he replied that he would just have to be played by someone like Russell Crowe lol. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/rotfl.gif

Hi TennisHack. Welcome back, have we talked before? Well, I'm very new, so maybe not. I mentioned to Layla that I think you guys are great writers. I like your impersonation of Pat and Cliff. Those two are big jokes. I wonder who's commentating in USA and CBS. Hopefully is Jim Courier. I used to hate him as a player but I like him as a commentator because he's fair and objective compare to the two. Though as long as they don't show him on camera too often. :D

Is the second book as good as the first? The first one is just too much fun. But then again, is just another fairy tale story. I mean, a woman lost one good looking man only to find that there's another even more gorgeous man waiting for her at the corner.
Like the movie "Someone like you", Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman. Ashley got dumped by that guy (forgot his name) and guess what, Jackman is waiting. What a bargain to get Jackman as a replacement. Can I have him???

Okay, back to the Victorian period. I think I've heard of Victoria and Albert but haven't seen it. So they shows British TV on A&E, I should check that out. I usually just watch the major networks and sports.

Well, the second book is still very funny, but sometimes it's a bit over the top. And of course it's a fairy tale, but that's all right with me.

Jackman is cute but in that movie I wouldn't want him. I didn't like that movie. It was disappointing. To me it felt like it had no soul. The reason I wouldn't want Jackman is beacuse I didn't fall for that particular cliche of a sworn casanova who just needs the right woman to suddenly become monogamous. Sorry. I'm guess I'm just too much of a romantic. I don't believe in promiscuity. Also didn't like Ashley Judd's impersonation of Meg Ryan. Meg can do it so much better. I like Ashley but not in that movie.

I agree, that movie is a big disappointment. I don't particularly like Jackman's character but I like Jackman himself. Although his last movie (with Ryan, what's that name, oops, can't think of it) is even a bigger disaster. I like Ashley, she looks strong and of course, very beautiful.

I'm now trying to think what would be my all time fav romantic movie. Definitely not Titanic, sorry JC, I disagree with your movie taste. Hmmm, let me think!

Well, I know I said good night but I'm still here, so when I finally disappear, remember I didn't leave without saying goodbye. :)

Thank goodness you don't like Titanic. I can't belive Juanqui loves that movie but hey, he can't be perfect right? ;) And don't even get me started on Kate and Leopold, that was the most contrived, freezing cold, shameless scam of a movie. I love most Meg Ryan's movies but this one was probably the worst romantic comedy I've ever seen.

Some of my faves include the ones we already mentioned, as well as Frankie and Johnny, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail (I love NY :hearts: ), French Kiss, While You Were Sleeping, but I could probably come up with better ones tomorrow.

I guess JC was still young when he watched Titanic when it comes out. I'm sure his taste will get better when he gets older.

Off my head, I can only think of (besides those Victorian ones,), When a man loves a woman, Dying young... okay I notice a trend here, I must like tragic love. And Addicted to Love (is just really fun one) and While you were sleeping. But let me look for some real good one later.

Ya, Layla, you have a nice sleep, whenever you decide to go to bed. Try this image instead of those shirtless one (okay, I don't know how to attach the pic). If you can't see it, trust me, is a lovely kitten.

Hi, Vera! Glad you're enjoying the story. I'll have to post an installment soon, I'm lagging behind :)

LMAO, I hate Cliff & Pat, they are such dumbasses. The US Open is being shown on USA, which means the commentators are John McEnroe & Ted Robinson. They aren't too bad.

The only time I've seen Jim Courier is Wimbledon, which was shown on TNT in the US. I like him as a commentator too, he and Mary Carillo are the gossip queens of the tourney :D

A&E has great movies, original and Brit imports. Unfortuantely, I read somewhere that A&E are cutting their budget for original movies :( I think the last BBC movie they had was The Magnificent Ambersons, which looked interesting but I didn't get to see.
