Yeah, and you thought he was scary. ;)

Ok, he's only one of my potential future husbands. I would quite seriously like to marry Marc Ribot, although I doubt anyone has heard of him. He's a renowned jazz guitarist from New York, who played in Ljubljana a few times and I was at all his concerts. :hearts: The things he can do to a guitar shouldn't be allowed. :) He's not exactly sexy (well he is to me) or hot, but he is quite amazing. He's a bit older though. This is him.

Actually, he's from Newark, New Jersey, Leo. ;)

Hey, Vera! :wavey:

Kula Shaker, isn't that the group with Chrisian Mills? Wow, haven't heard from them in a long time . . .

American MTV likes to pull "unpopular" videos quickly, so it's the same loop of sexual/sexist rap, hiphop, and R&B tripe. They never play other styles of music long enough for it to get popular, so . . .

. . . I never saw any moby, for instance. And moby is one my potential future husbands! :o

Quite a bit. He was born in 1954, so he's 48. At one concert (solo), he blew up baloons and played guitar with them lol. He likes to play around with effects, but still manages to produce beautiful melodies. Lately he's gotten into Cuban music and is performing with a band called Los Cubanos Postizos.

No, he doesn't. He's very youthful. He's often a guest musician for well know musicians, such as Elvis Costello (he toured with him), Laurie Andersen, Tom Waits, Tricky and he was even on Tanita Tikaram's first album, if anyone remembers that.

Maybe he's injured and Olivier is the lucky loser, in which case I'll be overjoyed! :D Not that Todd is injured obviously. :( But that Olivier has a chance to play.

Layla

Pearl Jam! :D Followed by (in no particular order) Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Cowboy Junkies, Portishead, Radiohead Counting Crows, American Music Club, The Band, Pink Floyd. Of the new ones I like Coldplay, Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, Travis, Incubus, Staind etc. Too many to mention! :D

How about you?

Leo7
10-28-2002, 09:56 PM
ooh, you have excellent taste Layla. :D some of my older faves include Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, the Eagles (gotta love Hotel California), and some Jethro Tull. love Coldplay too, Linkin Park (actually listneing to The End right now), Tool, Nirvana, and P.O.D.

lol @ Cowboy Junkies. my dad listens to their music, but i can't get into it. i did like their album Lay It Down tho. :)

Leo7
10-28-2002, 09:59 PM
omg is it possible i forgot to mention fleetwood mac? i was once obsessed with them!lol! also some dave mathews and sense field.

Layla
10-28-2002, 10:07 PM
Hehe, you have excellent taste yourself Leo. :) Led Zeppelin, Aerosmiths, Eagles are all great. Well not all Eagles songs are great, but some are classics. I like their Desperado album. :) You like Jethro Tull? Wow! Yeah, not all their albums are great but I love them. I like Songs from the Wood and Aqualung. :)

Cowboy Junkies are my mellow side. ;) I used to be a huge Grateful Dead fan but I don't listen to them as much now.

Generally, the guitar bands fare very well with me, and guitar players are usually the ones I fall for. :o

Don't you like Bruce Springsteen Leo? ;)

Leo7
10-28-2002, 10:11 PM
actually Bruce is kinda growing on me. his new album is pretty good too, although i haven't listened to all of the songs.

my fave Jethrto Tull song is Locomative Breath... hate Gratfeul Dead. :o

and i also am a fan of Queen's early music and Red Hot Chili Peppers. :)

Layla
10-28-2002, 10:12 PM
Hmmm, I never listened to a lot of Fleetwood Mac but I know great they are.

I don't know Tool and Sense Field? Who are they?

Ooops, and I forgot Dinosaur Jr. and a band called Buffalo Tom which I'm sure noone's ever heard of. At one point in my life I was really into hard-core music and my faves were Fugazi and No Means No. I saw several of their concerts. Oh and Henry Rollins. He was always such an inspiration lol.

Leo7
10-28-2002, 10:16 PM
sense field and tool are pretty new bands. i don't know the names of any of their songs (i usually don't pay attention to the names :o) but i think you might like them. tool has a concert this halloween :)

Yeah, I agree with you on that. :) I like some borderline pop, but certainly not the ones you mentioned. Speaking of least favorite, I simply cannot stand Celine Dion (apologize to any fans, but she is shite).

OMG, I forgot to mention Metallica in my list of faves. How could I? *spanking myself*

And LMAO, an ex-mechanic for a president sounds good to me. :D

Live on two legs is recorded in one of their shows after the Yield release. So, its from 1998 or so.

1. Corduroy
2. Given to fly
3. Hail, hail
4. Daughter
5. Elderly woman behind the counter...
6. Untitled
7. MFC
8. Go
9. Red mosquito
10. Even flow
11. Off he goes
12. Nothingman
13. Do the evolution
14. Betterman
15. Black
16. F*ckin´ up

Now you decide if its good or not. ;)

I would but the Lisbon show, though, since it´s one of those special recording project, where they made albums of ALL their shows for two years, and they come on recicled paper covers, with no booklets. So, they should be rather cheap.
I payed something like 20 dollars and its a double album...
Live on two legs has a clearer sound, though, since it was a conventional recording album.

Nothing pays for that songlist from Lisboa, though. ;)

As for the president: GO LULA!! :D

Oh, btw, sorry for Guga's lost. I was so sure he will meet Tim and gave him so hard time. But.... there's always next year.

Hitman, the songlists for all those live albums they released (like, 26 of them or something?) are AMAZING. Double CDs full of the cream of the crop. You make me want to buy one, now, LOL.

And how could I forget about Jeremy? . . . .

Well, 26 or something on the European tour, right?
They had two "batteries" of albums, one from the European band tour, which is on brown covers, then the light grey cover ones, that are from the USA tour, as the DVD I bought as well. ;)

And yes, forgetting Jeremy is BAD! :p j/k ;)

And hello to TH:wavey: Thanks for explaining that Entry system points thing in the GM. Now I get it. But I was looking at last year's point. JC had 3005 points before TMC last year. And at year end, after TMC, he had 3050. I can't understand how it can be, he won 2 matches in the round robin and he only got 35 points:confused: how can that be possible?

Hmmm, Eight players, but the most expensive of them all.
Maybe you will be able to buy something like 5 of them.
IF you got a lot of money, like Martin-Mr Llama.

Thats the point. Not a dunce thing to ask, though.
Its just like a last chance for people to change things, and gather many points to open big gaps over the ones who DIDNT play some weeks. Those lazy asses. :p

Hey, Vera :wavey:

And hitman, of course  I never greeted you ;)

I don't really know that much about the entry system, just what I c/ped from Steve G. Maybe the RRs weren't worth anything? I don't know :o:o:o But you're welcome for the explanation.

Needless to say, I find the WTA rankings quite mystifying.

Well, I don't think it'll be enough to propel me any higher than where I'm currently sitting, because I'm 40 pts behind Becca and 178 pts behind Layla--and it's fluid movement. I'll try, though. Without Agassihole my chances are even slimmer . . . but some principles you just can't break ;)

Thanks, first of all! :D

As for Guga, I came back home and watched the tape... :(
Very BAD performance from Guga. His serve was rocking, and thats why he didnt get beat worse. Radek had some stupid errors all the time, and Guga let him come back after being down one set. Stepanek just started to play well in the middle of the third set.
Poor, poor play. But maybe Guga just wants some vacations after such a tough year, metally talking. It was very hard on him.
Now lets see if he will play some tournament before the Aussie Open to try and get a seed for the first Slam...
I dont think so, knowing him as I do, but oh well. People change their minds, right? ;)

All right, let's try this one more time . . .

Someone asked about Tool earlier. Tool is the frustration-releaser/angry music. The louder you blast it, the better you feel :)

We use: Aenima (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000099Y/qid=1035855341/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/102-9224985-3732965) & Undertow (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000993/ref=pd_bxgy_img_2/102-9224985-3732965?v=glance) the most, though Lateralus (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005B36H/ref=pd_sim_music_1/102-9224985-3732965?v=glance) is also trying to make its way in.

I'd describe Tool as heavy (and when I say heavy, I mean HEAVY) rock, not really metal but very edgy.

I like Creed, Coldplay, Nickelback and Linkin Park from the new ones, mostly. Also Incubus, which sounds great for me. :D

On the oldies, Eric Clapton (his old songs were a lot better, but I like the Reptile album very well, too), The Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Iron Maiden (another case of something that was better before, but is still good) and Bruce Dickinson in his solo album (the one with the clown in the cover, which has that song Man of Sorrow, that I love)...

Many others, but I dont think I will remember them all. :p

Asterix and Obelix are two gauls from a resistant reduct of Galia right in the middle of the roman territory during Julius Caesar´s Empire. They have a druid who makes them a magic potion and let all the gauls have extraordinary power. The stories are absolutely hillarious.
Two or three years ago, Le Studio Canal and some other European producers decided to make a movie for the cinemas, with Gerard Depardieu being Obelix and Christian Clavier being Asterix. The first movie was Asterix and Obelix vs Caesar.
Now they have the second film released, and its called Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. Its so damn funny! :D

You seems to be more in touch with the genre movies than the main stream. I used to be a film addict and hop around film festivals. But not anymore. Now I lost touch and only know what's on the main stream cinema.

Whats the difference between genre and main stream? Im clueless.

Anyway, I love them all. Movies is another thing for which Im addicted. :p

Oh sorry, that's my film talk, I major in film in College:) Genre is like classification of the film type. I was just trying to say that you watched a lot of non-mainstream movies. And main stream just pretty much hollywood or from major studios.

oh i see.
Yeah, I like when the small productions movies come here. Some french, spanish and argentinian movies make it to our movies especially. And then some eventual bosnian or czech or japanese and stuff.
But I like mainstream movies as well. (I learned a new word, Im gonna use it like nutz now, just to prove how intelectual I am  ;))

Oh, yeah. Being a film major is loads of fun. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Studying film is really like studying philosophy, just in an understandable level, unlike the real philosophy thing.:D But being a film grad sucks, it's impossible to break into the industry, unless you have connection, which I don't. So I gave up. Worked in my other trade instead.

I would love to be a architecture major. I just figured that I'm not talented enough so I went with graphic design before I changed my major for good to film.

Hitman, thanks for the info on Live on Two Legs. Sounds too good to be true. :D I guess I'll have to buy it now. As for the Lisbon concert, the only available cd of the series in my hometown is the one from Ljubljana and I bought it the second it came out, just to keep the memory alive. :) None of the other concert cds ever made it to Slovenia. :(

So will you come to my wedding when I marry Chris Cornell then? ;) Seeing as you also like Soundgarden. :)

Lol, I used to like Iron Maiden a lot. Their fantasy worlds were astonishing. :) Haven't listened to them in ages though.

TH, thanks for the Tool link, they sound pretty cool, although I'd have to hear whole songs, not just 30 second clips, before I made up my mind. I enjoy classical music as well. Lol, I'm not surprised you love Russian composers. ;) My favorite composer is Stravinsky, but I also love Sibelius from the cold north (Peer Gynt) and I adore the New World Symphony by Dvorak. My all time favorite (modern) classical composer is Eric Satie though. His music is pure perfection. Also Michael Nyman at the very modern end of the spectrum. :)

Dire Straits! :D Needless to say I have all their albums (on vinyl :o ) I have about 200 records on vinly. It doesn't sound much but believe me I spent every penny I had in primary and high school on records. :D Too bad cds are so expensive. :( But back to Dire Straits, my favorite album is Love Over Gold, with Private Investigations and Telegraph Road as my fave songs. Brothers in Arms is also a superb song. But of course Sultans of Swing is also a classic. :D

Oh no, no, no. White Oleander is a wonderful book. I'm not often impressed by modern books, but I was by this one. You can't disregard books just because they were on Oprah. I mean you can, but you'd be missing out. She also had Wally Lamb on her show and his book I Know This Much is True is one of the top 3 books I've read in recent years, together with The Satanic Verses and Lord of the Rings. LOL Hitman, we share the same obsessions. :o Like you I enjoy both MAINSTREAM movies and indie movies, depends on the movie really. I don't fall for rave or disparaging reviews about either type, but more often than not I'll give a movie a chance, unless my instincts tell me I'm going to hate it and they are rarely wrong. ;)

Btw, I know who Asterix is. ;) I read a lot of the comics, some even in French (back in the days when I could understand it :o ) and I loved them. :) I suppose it's more of a European thing though. I think everyone in Europe knows who Asterix is. But I haven't seen the movie yet.

Good morning, everyone! :wavey:

I just want to take a moment and say that all of the cheering you guys did for Michel made me very happy :) The first thing I did was go to the live scores thread :o and even though Michel lost, it was nice to know there was more than just two people cheering him on. So, thanks, guys.

Mrs. B, you're right, I don't like it. But I can't say I didn't expect it. Coming from illness is really hard, your confidence is waning (and how much further could it have waned?), you're unsure of your shots and overcompensating for not feeling 100%.

That said, I am depressed that Hrbaty won this match, because Michel has owned him in their head-to-head for two years now.

But what can I do? It's over now. Michel's season is over, and all I can do is send him some comforting vibes (hence new location ;)) and hope he takes a nice long break and comes back fresh. I don't think this will affect his ranking too much, so he'll cling to the Top 70 and he will be a direct entrant into the Australian Open in January.

Hi Mrs. B, TH and Hitman! :wavey:

I'm back. TH, you're welcome (always happy to cheer for people I like), but I'm sorry I had to disappear in the middle of the 3rd set. My dad wanted me to do something for him and I couldn't say no. I'm really, really sorry he lost to Hrbaty.

I only just realized that DSF, that German channel, will show LIVE tennis this week, every weekday from 2 to 6 pm. :D They usually only show 1 hour of highlights, so this is a most welcome surprise. Right now, Kafelnikov is battling with Lapentti and leads 6-3 3-3 (Lapentti just broke back).

TH, I'm not very fond of most of the modern stuff either, but you don't even like Satie? He's not all that modern. His melancholic piano pieces are hauntingly beautiful, quite unlike anything I've ever heard.

Hitman, I don't have a credit card. :o And I'm loathe to use someone else, because I haven't quite warmed up to the idea of internet shopping. Too many risks.

Btw, Mrs. Layla Cronell sounds good to me too. :D And I'd be in real trouble if I had to have a white wedding. Most of my clothes are black. :o

That really sounds like fun! I should pop in more often! I love classical music, over 75% of my CD's are classical! LOL Most of those are recordings of the violin repertoire. Awwww, you play the violin. :) That is amazing. I wish I played an instrument. I even considered buying a violin at one point and learning how to play, but I don't think my neighbours would agree (I live in an apartment building). What do you mean used to, don't you play anymore?

I'm more of a piano person myself, but a violin can also pull at my heartstrings. :hearts: The Romantic era is my favorite. But I don't know nearly as much about classical music as you do. :o I'm more of a recreational listener. I listen to so many different types of music that sometimes classical music doesn't find its way to my cd player for quite a while. :o

;) Wow! La Cle -- oh-la-la! Mon Dieu! Quel homme!

Where is this shirtless thread??

Hi all!

Just picked up groceries before making lunch and watching tennis -- who will they show...?? Hope someone good.

Too bad for Nico. La Cle is doing OK so far. Happy for Robredo!! Sorry for Micha but he must still be getting over his illness.

Spring rolls?? Sounds tasty, Mrs. B.!

Yes, La Cle would not be able to see much without his glasses, I'm afraid! But he never wears them off the court -- he does have lovely eyes. ;) But I love the bandanas -- they're provencal fabric.

Oh yes, and hooray for James too!

:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: @ Arnaud pic without the accessories!!!

He is really a cutie, but you don't really see that when he wears those glasses. Well, if they're prescriptions, he can try contact lenses...but he's gorgeous!

Lee, that's what i try to do, house chores in between atpworld, that way my eyes don't burn as they do when i sit too long in front of the pc.

Hi, RogiFan!

Yeah, hooray for James, too. He's becoming dearer to me since i've seen him in Basel. In fact he was one of my top ten players to drool for. (not to mention his awesome tennis) Top of the list of course is Rafter & Corretja. Alex wins the most attractive eyes category. Que guapo!!!!

Lee, i'm happily married too, but this is all for good fun here, as long as hubby doesn't peek in or anything like that. But he's aware of my activities here and he says i act like a moonstruck teenager.:D

:) I wonder how many are real lovestruck teenagers on these forums. (I used to be once upon a time!!) Once a lovestruck teenager, always a lovestruck teenager (in one's mind)! It's just fun! Keeps you young! ;)

James eyes also on the list but they are shy, cute and sweet. Not like Alex's that can kill you with his stare.

we have a funny expression in Tagalog, "nakakalaglag ng panty"

which means your panties drop automatically at the sight of these kind of guys...:D
