Ooops, I forgot to add that I'll be cheering for Justine too. She's still one of my faves, even though I was very disappointed when she made that comment. Not to mention angry. But I forgave her, I just hope she doesn't do it again. Oh the drama of the WTA.

Sorry to hear about Norman. :( He just can't get rid of his injuries. I sincerely hope he'll get a good rest and he'll be ready next year.

Ok, now I'm really gone. :wavey:

I'm trying to get some of this work out of the way so I can write my TMS Paris preview for tomorrow! LOL, now I'll just have to get an updated draw ;)

You'll find something to cheer you up, don't worry. The memory of this disaster will slowly fade. And Juanqui did get to the semis and that's not a bad achievement. :)

Thank you Layla. I needed that!*returning a big hug*.

As a matter of fact, I did find something to cheer me up, a nice lunch, a haircut. Then I watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Oh, what a hilarious movie beginning to end. I recommend it to everyone who needs to turn a shitty mood around quick.

Well, looking ahead to Paris, I decided not to set up too high an expectation. I wonder how tired Juanqui is right now, flying around the world and played consecutive tourneys for 5 weeks. So if he lost early, I won't be too disappointed. Maybe he does need some breathing room before going to Shanghai. But I'm sure Juanqui will try his best in Paris no matter what. He's not the type to just show up in a tourney and not trying hard to win it. :)

7th game in World Series! WOW! Do you know that both teams have their spring training camp in Metro Pheonix? One is in Scottsdale and I think the other is in Tempe. I can never figure out which is which. Also, the spring training camp is the number one tourist attraction in Scottsdale.

Magandang Araw sa Inyong Lahat!!! Good day to all!!!!

Bright day in CH but gray clouds are looming, and windy...perhaps Mary Poppins is coming this way?

Yeah, i'll cheer for Justine too, but will cheer for Paradorn as well. I know you don't like him Layla, but he's good for Asian tennis. ;)

As for Youzhny v. Seb. I'll be neutral on that one...:) I like them both.

seriously the weather here is so bad, even the boiler keeps blowing out.I dread tomorrow morning if it blows out again.I can't have a cold shower!

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 10:59 AM
You can be happy you're footy team did won yesterday, and makes you happy. My footy team, ajax, played 1-1 yesterday, and when I think of that, and of Roger I become more sad.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:03 AM
Oh who did they play?Doesnt Van der Vaart play for Ajax?Hes a very skillful player.:) And Mido is it?Hes the egyptian striker

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:05 AM
Ajax played RKC. Yes, Mido and Van der Vaart play for Ajax. I like Van der Vaart, but he didn't play because he had an injury. Mido play only a part of the match. My favourite player, Cristian Chivu got a red card, and it was his birthday yesterday, so sad for him.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:08 AM
I remember watching the Amsterdam tournament when you guys won it beating Barcelona 4-3.That was one of the best games Ive seen.:) That wonderful piece of skill from Van Der Vaart which led to the free-kick,which was awesome and won you the game :) Ive been past the Amsterdam stadium you know ;)

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:10 AM
I've never been in the stadium, but last Friday I went to Amsterdam, and I saw it when the train passed it. I want to go to a match of ajax once, maybe the next amsterdam tournament.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:15 AM
lol we were in it last year! And we came last :o I remember I was in Tenerife when we watched the Ajax Liverpool game.I didnt realise til the game started we were in a dutch bar :o And then everyone was calling me a loser because I had my Liverpool shirt on.:o And you got Jari back :(

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:17 AM
I'm happy Jari is back. Before he went to Barcelona and Liverpool, he was my favourite player. I think he's very good, only sad is he has often injuries. I still like him very much. I think it's for him also better to be back in Amsterdam, because he never played for Liverpool

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:19 AM
I know,I was sad to see him go because I dont think he got the chances he deserved. It was the same at Barcelona. But if he is playing regularly and is happy then thats OK:) I remember the ovation he got when we played you in the Amsterdam Arena.Hes a real hero :)

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:25 AM
He's the most favourite player of Ajax at this moment. Maybe the most popular player in the time that Ajax won the champions league in 1995. It was very nice to see when he came back the first time, evry body was shouting his name.
And the most beautiful moment of all the time I watch sport was when Litmanen left Ajax. He couldn' speak, he was crying. (And I was crying too! It really was beautyfull)

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:29 AM
:wavey: Layla!I can see you!

Yeah I can imagine! He cried, thats how much Ajax means to him.I think he only really had one option to go and where to go.He just sat on the bench all the time which is sad to see such a talent wasted.:(

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:32 AM
I know, but Litmanen always wanted to go once to Liverpool. When he was younger he did love Liverpool. I think now he likes Ajax more.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:34 AM
yeah actually you know its quite suprising how widespread the fanbase is for Liverpool.I guess it came from the 70's and 80's side that won everything in England and Europe.

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:36 AM
I don't know. I also support Liverpool in the premier League. I'm happy Arsenal lost the whole week. I hate that team, especially Bergkamp.

ILR

Layla

Morning everyone! :wavey:

How is everyone on a fine Sunday afternoon? Hmmm, my day didn't start particularly well. Let me interrupt the football talk with some skiing talk for a second. ;) Even though noone cares about that. :p

My fave Bode Millerl, the man whose nervewrecking and lightning fast skiing I adore, ended the first Giant Slalom event in the 5th place, which is quite disappointing for him. :( He was 2nd after the first run, but wasn't even remotely spectacular in the second. It's not like him to lose places in the 2nd run unless he falls, because he's brave and takes chances. I'm surprised to see him hold back so much. I hope it's not the beginning of a new trend.

Mrs. B, I don't mind if you cheer for Paradorn. ;) I agree that he's great for Asian tennis and he's had such a successful year. I just don't like him, that's all. It happens. :o Btw, I think Rios might defeat him today. He's been playing great tennis this week.

Leo, you're right. I forgot to mention Younes. But I don't really hate him all that much. He does have his charms. :o He's just evil. :fiery: ;) The players I listed I dislike more. ;) If he stays away from Juanqui, he's alright. :)

Emma, what horrible weather you're having. :( I hope you fix your roof soon. All that moisture and humidity around the computer, it's no good. ;) We're having a nice sunny day, but I can't take advantage of it. There's still plenty of work I have to do.

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:41 AM
I know, I like it to see the matches of Liverpool. Also now Jari has gone. I even like you goalie, Dudek. He's good I think. It's weird I support him, because when he played in Holland he was a Feyenoord player. And when you support Ajax you can't like Feyenoord, or any Feyenoord player.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:44 AM

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:45 AM
Fonky I know exactly what you mean, its like me liking a Man Utd player, which I dont of course.:p Dudek is class,he is one of my favourite players Im glad we bought him.Best goalie around :)

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:46 AM
You've had a bad weather too? Here in Holland it's very bad. This morning it was raining. But now there is a little storm. It has never been this windy since 1990.

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:48 AM
What do you think of the goalie of Fulham? He's the best Holland has.
I'm also happy Liverpool bought Dudek. He was too good for Feyenoord, and you know I like it when Feyenoord lose. And I think Dudek is better as Westerveld. He made too many mistakes.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:48 AM

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:51 AM
Van Der Saar is very good,he is very tall which helps a lot.6ft 6 I think or something like that.I remember watching him in Euro 2000 and then heard he was coming to Fulham I was a bit suprised!Westerveld was great for a year but he did make silly errors.I was suprised and a little upset to see him go but the replacement is much better:)

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:52 AM
I still have holidays next week. I'm happy, but I still have a lot of homework to do. So sad, learning much in holidays. But I'm happy I have this long (three weeks!) holiday in Autumn. Last year I had just one week. Now I have enough time to watch tennis.

Layla
10-27-2002, 11:55 AM
No I can't stay long. Or rather I have to work in between posting here. ;) Speaking of weather, I forgot to mention the other reason this day hasn't been great so far. The cross-country relay event in Düsseldorf I was really looking forward to was canceled due to a hurricane or something like that. :( Too bad.

Do you know what time the St. Petersburg final starts, before I go looking? ;) (I'm a bit lazy).

ILR

3 weeks off.Pffft so unfair :( School just bores me.I hate getting up early and I hat working.I just live for sport.:)

Nymeria
10-27-2002, 11:56 AM
Yes, it was a bit surprising Van der Sar went to Fulham. I still don't know why Juventus didn't want to have him anymore. They said he wasn't good enough, but you could hardly score against him. I still like it's weird. I would like it if Van der Sar comes back to Ajax. We have some problems with the goalies now. The first three goalies have injuries, ajax had to buy a new goalie before the season started.

ILR
10-27-2002, 11:57 AM

I also live for sport. I have to go bed early when I go to school, 'cause I need a lot of sleep. But after my holidays I've an important exam. The teachter don't call this week holidays, but time to learn for the exam. Okey, they can call it that way, but I don't learn the whole day. I'm watching sport as much as possible.

I don't know your reserve goalie. He must be good if he playes for Eng U21's. The third goalie of Ajax playes for the Dutch team U21's, if he isn't injured. I like him, when he playes I must think of Van der Sar. He really looks like him.

By the way, my college is in Eindhoven. The town of PSV. I don't like that, because I can't talk too much about Ajax. As for work, I've no idea. I think it might get better this week, but there's no tennis on tv for me to enjoy. Still, I'm sure we will all anxiously follow the scores from Paris. What the Players Said

Gonzalez: "The match was very close until the third set. He played a good game to break me in the first game of the first set, then I played well to break back. That gave me a lot of confidence."

"This is my third indoor tournament and I'm in the final. That gives me a lot of confidence and shows that I can play on every surface."

"The most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing. When you are winning the confidence is coming."

About his mental approach to the final: "I'm going to go for it, that's my style. If I lose, I lose but I have always been like that."

Ferrero: "I started very good in the third set with a break, then he started to play very aggressive. I couldn't do anything. He has played very good tennis this year. I'm a little bit sad but that's tennis."

Hi, Emma!

Yeah, Nalby won Basel. He was tough, after all. Gonzo was useless today as well, esp. after having beaten Juanqui.

I'm happy too 'cuz Paradorn won Stockholm. He served 30 aces! This is really good for Asian tennis... :)

Afternoon, everyone! :wavey:

LOL, I feel like I've missed the conversation. All of the finals have been played, and I did very good on my team this week! I had Paradorn, Gonzo, and Misha on my team :)

Kimmy rocks :) What a great way to finish the season! I hope she can make this upswing work to her advantage at the championships :bounce::bounce::bounce:

I kinda pissed that Gonzo played so badly today. I mean, this is the guy who took out Juan Carlos and he's playing like a junior?! What?! UGH  I agree, Layla, it's very hard to like this kid.

Nalbandian won! :bounce: I'm sure Rebecca will be thrilled to no end :)

Misha  I'm sorry he couldn't take the title, but what a great run for him. He's shown that he's back, in some form or other, after that horrible mess with his father.

As for Paris--well, I hope it doesn't turn into a disaster like the last few have. I'm going to finish my history paper today (YAAAAAY!!!) and so will have time to write my preview to the tournament later this afternoon :)

This is definitely going to be one interesting tournament . . .

Hi everyone! :wavey:

Oh dear. Poor Richard and Paul-Henri. :(

Argh, why couldn't Gonzo play like that against Ferrero. He would've been creamed. :p

Nevermind, way to go Kimmy!!! :bounce: :bounce: She is terrific. :)

Good to hear you will finish your paper today TH. :D I'll be looking forward to your preview. :) I took some time off today and translated an article about Maja Matevzic that I posted on wtaworld, if anyone's intrested. ;)

I have really bad news from the world of figure skating. :( Apparently, Yagudin might have to give up skating as he has a career-threatening congenital hip-problem and the doctors are not sure if there's anything they can do. He cried during the press-conference.   That's a terrible blow to all figure-skating fans. He is a brilliant skater.

Also I don't know if you've heard but actor Richard Harris died two days ago. He played Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator in the recent years. He was a phenomenal actor and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.

Better news from Paris? Jiri Novak might pull out, too. He says he's still suffereing from that groin injury that made him pull out of the TMS Madrid final.

Apparently, Yagudin might have to give up skating as he has a career-threatening congenital hip-problem and the doctors are not sure if there's anything they can do. He cried during the press-conference.

Poor Alyosha!:sad: I watched his long program at the Olympics last year and it was absolutely stunning!! Not much for figure skating myself but you know when you see something good. He must be devestated :(

Layla, i read about this too. RH was one of my fave actors when i was little. And he sang a wonderful version of MacArthur's Park. He had this beautiful raspy voice which to me sounded so authoritative.

Are you busy or can you stay for a while longer?

Layla
10-27-2002, 05:56 PM
Naah, I can stay for a while. ;) I was compiling a list of top 20 songs of all time for the wtaworld non-tennis section. Believe me, it's hard. I hardly included any songs from the 90s.

ILR

Layla
10-27-2002, 06:01 PM
Yep, my fave songs. But I'd come up with a different list tomorrow. It's so hard to decide. :(

I didn't use to, but they have a great non-tennis section and there's always a lot of people there. It's fun actually. You should try it. ;)

ILR
10-27-2002, 06:04 PM

Layla
10-27-2002, 06:19 PM
Hmm, I'm not sure how many of those songs you know. They really show my age lol. :o Like I said, I didn't include any recent songs, simply because the old ones have been with me for a long time, while the new ones have yet to become a part of my heart. I wish they divided this list into decades. ;)

ILR
10-27-2002, 06:23 PM

Top 20 songs? Wow, that's difficult. Music doesn't exist in a vacuum, there's no stopping or starting point. I'd probably include a lot of Tchaikovsky and Simon & Garfunkel, LOL :)

I mostly participate on WTAWorld in the Non-Tennis section, but it's so big and moves so fast that I've only contributed to two threads :o:o:o I don't have time to be up-to-date over there, keeping up here is hard enough ;)

Great preview as usual TH! :) You really do have a knack for writing these things.

How come bloody Roddick and Agassi get the easiest draws. :fiery: Or maybe for once I wouldn't mind if Agassi made it very far. An Agassi/Hewitt final would be quite nice if it meant that no one could squeeze Juanqui out of Shanghai. ;)

Let the worrying begin. :p I'll be nervous all week. ;)

Vera
10-27-2002, 09:41 PM
Hi Layla:wavey: how's work?

I'm so happy that Seb won today. That will take some pressure off him come next week, having to defend his title. It's sad that Mathieu withdrew, but I was quite happy that Seb doesn't have to meet him. I'll be so torn when he faces Carlos in the 3rd round.

The red-hot Scrichaphan. Player sometimes let down a bit after they won a title, I wish Paradorn won't be so hot next week. He got to be a little tired, or I hope he is. Please don't give too much trouble to Juanqui.

I guess I'll just start praying for Juanqui, to wish him a very good tournament in Paris.

It sure is exciting. I just hope we don't all start fighting over our faves lol. ;) No mercy this week. I think it might be wise to concentrate all my cheering on Juanqui alone. :p Because him making it into Shanghai is all I care about at this point. Please remember that I don't get any coverage of Paris, only of the Master's Cup and as always, I really want to see him play.

Vera

Leo7
10-27-2002, 10:07 PM
hey everyone.

yup Vera, the Giants and Angels are tied at 3 games all. tonite is the 7th game that decides it all. should start pretty soon. i prefer the Angels, but i'll also be happy if the Giants win it b/c Barry Bonds is very deserving. he hit another homerun last nite, his 8th in the post-season.

Leo7
10-27-2002, 10:09 PM
my focus will be mainly on Juanqui, but i still have to look out for my other faves. Tommy Haas isn't out of contention and i seriously hope he is fresh and ready to kick some ass in Paris, like last year, so he can qualify along with Ferrero. :) would be very nice to have both Tommy and Juan Carlos in the TMC.

Hey, Vera :wavey:

Thanks :) Yeah, I was  but they'll be kicked out soon enough. Andy against Juanquii or Canas in the quarters? Or Rogi or Tommy in the semis? Please. As for Agassihole, well, maybe he'll have another one of those fluke matches like he did last week.

Just as long as he doesn't end up as the #1 player I'll be happy.

Vera
10-27-2002, 10:37 PM
Tis right! Ro-dick didn't win a single match in Paris this year, lost the first round in RG and all his DC matches. The odd of him winning anything in Paris next week is slim. As of Baldy. I'm still wondering if he's faking last week, trying to get out of St. Petersburg early so that his old body don't get too tired to move in Paris. I don't want to see him face Hewitt in Paris, he'll get his chance of getting spank by Hewitt in Shanghai, that's for sure.

Layla
10-27-2002, 10:42 PM
Bye Leo! :wavey: Don't work too hard. ;)

Hi TH! :wavey: I didn't disappear. I was just on the other two boards. I posted head-to-heads for tomorrow's matches on the gotennis board.

Hmmm, it makes me feel a bit better to know that you're not worried about Juanqui qualifying. :) But I won't be able to relax until he's clinched it. Like I said, at this point, that is all I care about. I don't even care if Andre finishes as #1  :o I just want to see Juanqui in Shanghai. Priorities.

TennisHack
10-27-2002, 10:44 PM
How many points does he have to have to clinch is spot? I didn't think he was that far away . . . he also has a good history in Paris, maybe the Frenchies will cheer him on :)

Vera
10-27-2002, 10:50 PM
He would have clinch it if he won Basel. So I think the magic number is 495 points. But really, even if he can't win a match next week, I'm still pretty confident that he will make Shanghai.

Layla
10-27-2002, 10:52 PM
I don't know how many points he needs but I think we should consider the possibility that he won't make it past Paradorn. :( I don't mean to be negative, but anything can happen. I just want to know that in the event of that happening, he will still be able to go to Shanghai, and that means some of the others must fail as well. That court in Paris will turn into a gladiators' arena come tomorrow. ;) There are so many imponderables it's impossible to calculate every scenario, so it's all up in the air.

TennisHack
10-27-2002, 10:56 PM
Even if Juanqui was to fall to Paradorn, wouldn't everyone below him have to do ultra well? Like semis, final, win? I understand your worry of course but can't help but feel confident that he'll make it :)

BTW, how was your match today? Your first final and all? Since Juanqui was cheering for you ;)

Hehe, I like your taste in music. :) How come you don't have No Code? I love that album and I read somewhere that they consider it their favorite album (don't take my word for it, I could be wrong, but I read a lot of interviews about a year ago).

Oh Alive. I can never get enough of that song. It meant so much to me at one point in my life, but I guess a lot of people say that. It's true, it touches people in a way few other songs do.

No, I haven't heard the new single. They have a new single out? Wow. Can't wait to hear it. I haven't been listening to music much lately, I had to concentrate on my translations. I often listen to music while I work, but sometimes I just can't concentrate.

Are you familiar with Temple of the Dog? Hunger is another one of my all time favorite songs. The first time I heard it on MTV (they still had Headbanger's Ball in those days :) ) it blew me away. Or maybe it's just the fact that I'm in love with Chris Cornell. :hearts: When I bought his solo album, I couldn't stop listening to it. :o

I always liked Pearl Jam, but I didnt have albums. Just Yield. Then I bought Live On Two Legs, and then Binaural was released and I bought it too. And when I got some money, I bought Ten, Pearl Jam, Vitalogy and the Lisbon bootleg all at once  lol
No Code fell short because Im absolutely in love with some of the Vitalogy songs like Nothingman and Betterman, Ten is the all time classic album, the Pearl Jam album was a present from my gf, and the Lisbon bootleg is just unbelievable! I cant wait for their new album. Maybe Ill do a combo and buy No Code with it. :D

As for their new single, I am mine was the one I was talking about... It was on their site, but right now Save You is there. Just log in www.pearljam.com and a window will pop with their Riot in Act album. Click on the link to listen to the song. :D

And Temple of the Dog is a kickass. Hunger Stryke is just perfect! We should talk more about music... ;) lol

We should talk more about music... ;) lol

Good to see you back, Hitman! :D

Did you have a good time?

Thanks for the link. Wow, their new album is coming out in November! I'm so out of touch. :o Can't wait to get it! :bounce: Save You sounds great and lmao at their song titles: Love Boat Captain, Bushleaguer, I Am Mine. :D

Pearl Jam album? Do you mean Vs. - their second one? It includes one of my fave PJ songs Rear View Mirror. Its driving rhythm is just perfect for a song about driving away (they're really good at that topics ;) ). I have a live cd from their concert in Ljubljana and that song is just crazy. I remembeer it drove everyone into frenzy, because it was even faster and more urgent than on the cd. Anyway, I always get pumped when I listen to this song.

Saw things so much clearer
Once you were in my
Rear view mirror!

I love singing to their songs because my singing voice sometimes has the same timber as Eddie's. :)

Hehe, quel surprise! My favorite songs from Vitology are also Nothingman and Betterman. ;)

Listen to this song guys:

Waitin', watchin' the clock, it's four o'clock, it's got to stop
Tell him, take no more, she practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over...
Pretends to sleep as he looks her over
She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man...
Can't find a better man (2x)
Ohh...

Talkin' to herself, there's no one else who needs to know...
She tells herself, oh...
Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to come along...
Swears she knew it, now she swears he's gone
She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man...
She lies and says she still loves him, can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man...
Can't find a better man (2x)
Yeah...

She loved him, yeah...she don't want to leave this way
She feeds him, yeah...that's why she'll be back again
Can't find a better man (3x)
Can't find a better...man...
Ohh...ohh...
Uh huh... (5x)
Ohh...

Great lyrics. Lord, I sometimes cry when I hear that song. Eddie does seem to have a great understanding of women and women's psychology, which is another reason why I love him so much. The song Deep from Ten is so spooky and horrifying.

On the edge of a Christmas clean love
Young virgin from heaven...visiting Hell
To the man above her, she just ain't nothin'
And she doesn't like the view
She doesn't like the view
She doesn't like the view
But he sinks himself deep

*shudder*

You're right, we should talk about music more often. ;)

Good morning, everyone :wavey:

Jarkko is playing as we speak :) He won the first set 6-1 but seems to be down in the second 4-1. :( I really want him to win through!

I just read Bob Larson's column in GM and he seems to think Juan Carlos has more or less clinched his spot at the Master's Cup as well, if that takes a load off anyone's mind :)

Well, I'm going to cheer for Jarkko while I still can. A loss to Zabaleta. . . . :o

Hi TH! :wavey:

I'll help you cheer for Jarkko. :) Go Jarkko, win the third set! :bounce:

He did indeed lose the second set 6-1. What a weird scoreline. Come on, fight Jarkko.

Darn, Koubek lost to Malisse in 3 sets. :( He even got bageled in the last one. :o

Good to see you still here Layla! ;)

I had a good time, since my fave candidate (sp?) for the presidential election won. Its a shame the party wasnt complete as the estate governor will be from another party. :(
But anyway, to have an ex-mechanic as a president is something. :D

Yeah, the new album looks very interesting. But what doesnt coming from them?? Its like something with Asterix and Obelix in it: cant help but rock! :D

Yes, Pearl Jam is the Vs. album. They call it Pearl Jam some places and Vs. some other ones... I dont know. You chose which you prefer... ;)
Rearview mirror is indeed a very good song. I love Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. "The longest title in the Pearl Jam catalogue" as Eddie always calls it. lol

If I would ever buy a cd because of a booklet, the oscar would go to Vitalogy. :p Its just awesome their design work. What a beautiful booklet!
Thanks for the lyrics, I was singing to myself. ;)
Another good one:

Vacate is the word
"Vengence has no place", he swears to her
"Cannot find the comfort in this world..."
Artificial tears..., Vessel stabbed, "Next up, volunteers..."
Vulnerable, wisdom can´t adhere
A truant finds home.
A wish to hold on
But there´s a trapdoor in the sun
.........

Fill in the blanks... ;)

Here we are talking about music... lol

26. Elderly woman behind the counter in a small town

   That songlist looks amazing! Red Mosquito is indeed beautiful, like all the songs on No Code. ;)

Awww Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. *sigh*

I seem to recognize your face
Haunting familiar yet I can't seem to place it
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
Lifetimes are catching up with me
All these changes taking place I wish I'd seen the place
But no one's ever taken me
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...

I swear I recognize your breath
Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising
Me you wouldn't recall, for I'm not my former
It's hard when, your stuck upon the shelf
I changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate
Perhaps that's what no one wants to see
I just want to scream...hello...
My god its been so long, never dreamed you'd return
But now here you are, and here I am
Hearts and thoughts they fade...away...

Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade

You know, I was going to post the lyrics to Given to Fly myself. In fact, I'll do it right now. :)

He could’ve tuned in, tuned in
But he tuned out
A bad time, nothing could save him
Alone in a corridor, waiting, locked out
He got up outta there, ran for hundreds of miles
He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree
The wind rose up, set him down on his knee

A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw
Delivered him wings, "Hey, look at me now"
Arms wide open with the sea as his floor
Oh, power, oh

He's.. flying
Whole…
High.. wide, oh

He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share
His key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere
But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed
By faceless men, well, fuckers
He still stands

And he still gives his love, he just gives it away
The love he receives is the love that is saved
And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky
A human being that was given to fly

High.. flying
Oh, oh
High.. flying
Oh, oh
He’s…flying
Oh, oh

:) :) :) Sorry people, I'm only posting those because I want to share Pearl Jam's beautiful lyrics with all of you. Hope you enjoy them. ;)

Tries to make her proud

The shades go down, it's in her head
Painted room...can't deny there's something wrong...

Don't call me daughter, not fit to

Don't call me daughter, not fit to be

Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete, again
Oh, Feelin' maybe he'll see a little better, set a days, ooh yeah
Oh, hand out, faces that he sees time again ain't that familiar, oh yeah
Oh, dark grin, he can't help, when he's happy looks insane, oh yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again
Life again, life again...

Kneelin', looking through the paper though he doesn't know to read,
ooh yeah
Oh, prayin', now to something that has never showed him anything
Oh, feelin', understands the weather of the winters on its way
Oh, ceilings, few and far between all the legal halls of shame, yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away
Someday yet, he'll begin his life again
Whispering hands, gently lead him away
Him away, him away...
Yeah!
Woo...ah yeah...fuck it up...

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies
Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away

At home, drawing pictures of mountain tops, with him on top
Lemon yellow sun, arms raised in a V
The dead lay in pools of maroon below

Daddy didn't give attention
To the fact that mommy didn't care
King Jeremy the wicked, oh, ruled his world
Jeremy spoke in class today (2x)

Clearly I remember pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
But we unleashed a lion
Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady's breast
How could I forget?
And he hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurtin', ooh, dropped wide open
Just like the day, oh, like the day I heard

Daddy didn't give affection
And the boy was something mommy wouldn't wear
King Jeremy the wicked, ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today (3x)
Woo (14x)
Try to forget this...try to forget this...
Try to erase this...try to erase this...
From the blackboard...

Jeremy spoke in class today (2x)

Woo (29x)
Woooooohhh...spoke in, spoke in

And one I haven't heard in a long time :sigh::)

I wish I was a neutron bomb, for once I could go off.
I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on.
I wish I was a sentimental ornamnet you hung on
The christmas tree, I wish I was the star that went on top,
I wish I was the evidence
I wish I was the grounds for fifty million hands up raised and opened toward the sky.

I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
I wish I was a messenger, and all the news is good.
I wish I was the full moon shining off your camaro's hood.

I wish I was an alien, at home behind the sun,
I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on.
I wish I was the pedal break that you depended on.
I wish I was the verb to trust, and never let you down.

I wish I was the radio song, the one that you turned up,
I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish,
I guess it never stops.

And just for the sake of variety, check out the lyrics of this Nick Cave song from the last album. :) Yes, I admit it, I'm a sucker for great lyrics. :o

As I sat sadly by her side
At the window, through the glass
She stroked a kitten in her lap
And we watched the world as it fell past
Softly she spoke these words to me
And with brand new eyes, open wide
We pressed our faces to the glass
As I sat sadly by her side

She said, "Father, mother, sister, brother,
Uncle, aunt, nephew, niece,
Soldier, sailor, physician, labourer,
Actor, scientist, mechanic, priest
Earth and moon and sun and stars
Planets and comets with tails blazing
All are there forever falling
Falling lovely and amazing"

Then she smiled and turned to me
And waited for me to reply
Her hair was falling down her shoulders
As I sat sadly by her side

As I sat sadly by her side
The kitten she did gently pass
Over to me and again we pressed
Our different faces to the glass
"That may be very well", I said
"But watch the one falling in the street
See him gesture to his neighbours
See him trampled beneath their feet
All outward motion connects to nothing
For each is concerned with their immediate need
Witness the man reaching up from the gutter
See the other one stumbling on who can not see"

With trembling hand I turned toward her
And pushed the hair out of her eyes
The kitten jumped back to her lap
As I sat sadly by her side

Then she drew the curtains down
And said, "When will you ever learn
That what happens there beyond the glass
Is simply none of your concern?
God has given you but one heart
You are not a home for the hearts of your brothers

And God does not care for your benevolence
Anymore than he cares for the lack of it in others
Nor does he care for you to sit
At windows in judgement of the world He created
While sorrows pile up around you
Ugly, useless and over-inflated"

At which she turned her head away
Great tears leaping from her eyes
I could not wipe the smile from my face
As I sat sadly by her side

Layla

Yeah, I know. Wasn't quite what I expected either. :(

It's a famous Jacques Brel song from way back when. A wonderfully sad song, very beautiful. The title means Don't leave me. I can translate those verses if you want.

Don't leave me
I won't cry anymore
I won't talk anymore
I'll just hide
And watch you
Dance and smile
And listen to you
Sing, then laugh
Let me become
The shadow of your shadow
The shadow of your hand
The shadow of your dog
Don't leave me

It's also featured in one of the Pedro Almodovar movies, but I can't remember which. :o

Hi, Layla! :wavey: , Hi, Hackie!:wavey:

Como esta?

It's been a gorgeous day here in Bern and i started my day by going to this aerobics class at 9! Can u believe it? It felt so good, i haven't done this stuff in a while but i thought i'd do my body a favor as i haven't played tennis for almost 2 weeks now. It's too cold to play outdoors and our club will be closed officially next week.

Layls, i went to wta to check out the non tennis but there's too many to read, but i did have a look at your lyrics. Jacques Brel! Did you know that Nina Simone has a version of that song, and in English it's called 'If You Go Away', Jack Jones has version, but the English lyrics you wrote is not the same. But the melody of that song is so beautiful, isn't it?

and your top 20 songs...as Michelle Shocked would sing in Anchorage, 'ah, keep on rockin' girl'....

Hackie, so Krati must be feeling better, he IS in Paris, isn't he? Thank God he's playing with a qualifier, let's hope that shouldn't pose a problem for him. ;)

Layla
10-28-2002, 05:40 PM
Hi Mrs. B!

Estoy muy bien, gracias! :) (that's about the extent of my knowledge of Spanish ;) I'm not even sure that's correct lol).

No, I didn't know Nina Simone has a version. I'd love to hear it, her voice would suit the song. :) My translation is just a spur of the moment thing, just so the lyrics will be understood, but of course it doesn't match the music. If You Go Away does fit, but the meaning is not quite the same. ;) That song is beautiful in every way, the melody, the lyrics, the voice, the accent, the piano. Just perfect.

Thanks :) I'm sure you'll keep on rockin' yourself. :) Why don't you post your own top 20 list? My songs are so old compared to the other posters'. I feel like they don't stand a chance in the final count of points. Hmmm Anchorage, now I feel tempted to post the lyrics of that. ;)

I took time out to write to my old friend
I walked across that burning bridge
Mailed my letter off to Dallas
But her reply came from Anchorage, Alaska

She said: Hey girl it's about time you wrote
It's been over two years you know, my old friend
Take me back to the days of the foreign telegrams
And the all-night rock 'n rollin'
Hey Chel, we was wild then

Hey Chel, you know it's kinda funny
Texas always seems so big
But you know you're in the largest state in the Union
When you're anchored down in Anchorage

Hey girl I think the last time I saw you
Was on me and Leroy's wedding day
What was the name of that love song you played?
I forgot how it goes
I don't recall how it goes

Anchorage
Anchored down in Anchorage

Leroy got a better job so we moved
Kevin lost a tooth, now he's started school
I got a brand new eight month old baby girl
I sound like a housewife
Hey Chel, I think I'm a housewife

Hey girl what's it like to be in New York?
New York City, imagine that!
Tell me, what's it like to be a skateboard punk rocker?
Leroy says, "Send a picture"
Leroy says, "Hello!"
Leroy says, "Aw, keep on rocking girl"
Yeah, keep on rocking

Hey Chel, you know it's kinda funny
Texas always seems so big
But you know you're in the largest state in the Union
When you're anchored down in Anchorage
Oh, Anchorage
Anchored down in Anchorage
Oh, Anchorage

Hi ILR! :wavey:

Yeah, I need some motivation myself. I've hardly done any work today. :o All I did was surf the net and enjoy the music talk on wtaworld. Now that I handed in the texts, I've just become incredibly lazy. I think I needed a day off. But I still think I can squeeze in a few horoscopes into today's schedule. ;)

Because our non-tennis section is quite dead. I don't even go there anymore. It's quite another matter when you have so many posters on-line at the same time as you do on wtaworld. Yes, there are a lot of threads and they keep moving so fast, but you pick a few you're interested in and follow those. I wish there were more posters on atpworld. *sigh*

Layla

Lol, I won't put up too many lyrics here, I promise. ;) They take up a lot of space, although a poster on wtaworld did give me a great idea by simply making the font size smaller. :)

ILR

Hehe, the song might not be much to your liking, but the video is excellent. :) I noticed there's a lack of great songs on MTV at the moment. I miss the days when all they played was Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd and Nickelback. :(

Mrs. B, what kind of aerobics class did you have today?

ILR
10-28-2002, 06:36 PM
I love all those and you know I do!:D Yeah thats what MTV2 plays most of the time.:) Well its quite suprising that Nickelback are doing so well in the UK because we are bursting with cheesy pop!But I love Blue :) You know them?I have Come Clean,Hybrid Theory and Silver side up on CD!Im very proud! And Im not going to mention Wes..........:o

Layla

No, I don't think I know Blue. I might have heard them without realizing it as I don't check which band is playing lately. :o I'll look out for them. Why wouldn't you mention Wes? ;) He's sexy. :hearts: Speaking of sexy, I might post a pic of one of my future husbands again. :p Later though, I have to look for it.

lol OK so Wes is sexy.;) Blue are seen as a boyband but they are more funky,r n b pop-ish kind of group who can actually sing!Hmmmm who is your future husband?;)

And Hackie's not gonna like Krati's first opponent, Hrbaty...
---------------------------

Layla i went to this Australian woman who does aerobics for a group 2x a week. I joined her 2 years ago and we were in a German course together. I came and went, never really doing it regularly and since i've been more engrossed with tennis the last few seasons, i never went back. But i keep bumping into her at the grocery store and she always asks me when i'll come back and i said don't expect it, i'll just come. It actually felt quite good showing up there this morning, sort of like start my week fit and healthy, you know...i couldn't even follow her properly, the steps were too fast, but the floor exercises felt great, i also brought my small weights and we did that as well. And she puts on this funny combination of modern, broadway and caribbean music and the end is like new age music...i figured i'll do this till we fly out to the Philippines in December. Actually i could do it at home in front of that black guy on DSF, but it's more motivating to be with a real group.

   I am very very upset now since Guga lost today. Anyone watch the match? How is he doing?

Just come back from my son's school after volunteer my time there. Anyway I don't have much time burying myself in tennis (or now my misery) since I will have a house guest from tomorrow till the end of the week. I still need to vacuum the house. Yuck!

You remembered Emma. :) Yes his name is Chris Cornell, the singer of Soundgarden. He's everything I want in a man - intelligent, sexy, has a beautiful voice and is slightly on the dark side. ;)

Hi Lee! :wavey:

It's too bad you don't have enough time for tennis. :( I hope your house guest lets you drop by here once in a while. ;)

Lol, Mrs. B! I remember that black guy on DSF. I exercised with him once or twice, but he's too slow for me. I didn't even break a sweat. :(

Hackie, so Krati must be feeling better, he IS in Paris, isn't he? Thank God he's playing with a qualifier, let's hope that shouldn't pose a problem for him. ;)

I hope so! I haven't seen any word on whether or not he's playing. He does face Dominik Hrbaty in the first round, who looked very impressive during qualifying. As I wrote in the other thread, thank God he doesn't have any points to defend because he's fallen down to #69 :( (He was pushing the Top 20 after Wimbly.)

:) So this is where you've been camping, ILR! All those lyrics! Do you know that Nickelback is Canadian?? They're extremely popular here -- have won music awards! Can't say they're my fave... anyway -- so Guga lost?! Just as long as Rogi and Juanqui make it to China, that's all I care for this week.

Hackie:

I checked out your photos (wow, tons!) on your site and they're great! Some even I haven't seen! That's always cool. I esp. loved the one w Dani and Arantxa winning their doubles! So cute, the 2 of them! And Juanqui in Tokyo and HK -- boy, do they worship him there... you know why? Because he's exotic to them: tall, blond, cute, nice bod... and he wins things!

Hi Mrs. B.! Aerobics, eh? That's what I s/be doing... or at least some vigorous dancing to some lively music... :p
