Yes, there's alway someone like that in a family. It only means she has a great heart and is not afraid of responsibility. :) I realize that must make her life difficult, but imo it's better to be a good person with a complicated life than a bad person with an easy one. ;)

been getting the cold shoulder?Said they'd call but they never?It just looks like its not your time right now.Dont be too pushy because that is what will drive people away,especially if you arent that close anyway.Dont pursue,wait for the call,you dont want to look too desperate.Maybe if you havent heard after a few days at the least then you either seek them out or leave them.You have to decide if you think they are really worth it judging by what you know.Wise at the time,or not,only you can make that desicion.

If the relationship you are in is going nowhere,you know better than to stick it out.Ask yourself why you got involved in the first place.And if you cant think of any good reasons you know that the best thing to do is let them down very softly.If you're wondering when the right time is to do it,the answer is as soon as possible.You dont want to keep this going on and have it dragging over your head, end it whilst you can.You know there is never a good time.And remember be nice,its not easy being let down.

Dont bother holding out for the one you think you want.It may appear that they are not your destined partner afterall.If they dont even give you a chance to talk to them then do you really want to know anyway?You dont want an ego around the house,it will only cause more arguments than its worth.And believe me,its hardly worth anything.They werent that important.You'll get over them.But dont go out looking for someone soon after to ease the pain,thats almost as bad as being superficial.Dont look for love,let love find you

God when Im writing these I feel more like an agony aunt than writing hororscopes :p:o

I'm fine. Thx.

Ya, too bad for Nicolas. Seems that he just can't keep his momentum going. And he probably won't be in Paris, cos too late for qualifying and he can't get to the main draw with his ranking nowaday. He really needs to figure out a way to get out of this massive slump.

BASEL, Switzerland (Reuters) - Fiery Spaniard Felix Mantilla has been fined 1,000 dollars after throwing his towel at the umpire's chair after losing 2-6 6-3 7-6 to fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in their quarter-final at the Swiss Indoors.

Mantilla's outburst came on the first match point at 6-5 in the tie-break at the St Jakobshalle venue when Ferrero guided an angled backhand volley across court. It appeared to land out but there was no call.

American umpire Steve Ullrich also remained silent and, after both players had stood waiting for a ruling, Mantilla collected his towel and hurled it upwards towards the umpire's chair.

"I saw the ball on television afterwards and it was close to out," said Ferrero, 22, who is hoping to reach his first indoors final on Sunday.

"But it was definitely in... I can understand how he felt."

Ferrero, the second seed, will next meet either seventh seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile or Frenchman Arnaud Clement.

Mantilla, ranked 59th in the world, conceded: "It was a mistake, but I can learn from it. I will not do it again. I know I must be more aggressive on the court in the important points, but I hate losing and especially like this because I have lost three times to him in a third set tie-break."

Ferrero, fourth in the Champions Race for an automatic qualifying place in the end-of-season showpiece Masters Cup in Shanghai and fourth in the world rankings, added: "It is always very difficult for me to play him.

"We know each other well. We have played five times and it is always three sets and today it was no different.

"He is very solid. He makes no mistakes and he has a very good back-hand and you really have to win the points against him. He doesn't give them away."

Ferrero has won seven ATP titles.

:eek:

That's good. Watch his tape then, I want him to win so badly. Maybe I'll watch mine too. But my collection is very very limited. Never occurred to me to tape tennis, not until after RG this year. I only have 30 mins of him playing SF against Safin which I've watched about, I donno, 50 times. I remembered every single move of him in that 30 mins. Canucks...not doing as good as I hope. Well, still above 500 so maybe I'm too demanding.:p Well, we lost 2 games in a row and the whole city is in a panic mode. Can you image? It's tough to play hockey in a hockey town. Probably same to the all the Canadian teams. They gave up a shorthand goal yesterday to let the Ducks tie the game. Man, we can't even beat the Ducks this season, I'm not feeling too secure so far. Granted, Ducks improve a lot.

Oh, I can't cheer for Juanqui live either. His match starts at 5am my time. I'm too busy sleeping. Good that I don't have to bear with the suspense during the match.

yeh, i really want that Davis Cup match in 2000. the way he ended it on match point with that bakchand winner... and the wonderful celebration afterwards... god i wanna buy it! but like you, i am also broke. :(

my favorite match from his run in Cincy was that one with Taylor Dent. that final set tiebreak was breathtaking tennis. i remember my heart beating wildly when i was watching it live. when he hit that double-fault to go down 3-4, i thought it was all over. and then he hits two terrific passing shot winners, a service winner, and an overhead smash to close it out. :) i watch that tiebreak i have on tape at least twice a week. :D

i also have some of that James Blake match and the entire Wayne Arthurs match from Cincy. can't find that one against Carlos tho. :confused:

Well, I come from a very big Chinese family. My father was the youngest and he was actually brought up by his older sister. Her daughter, i.e. my first cousin married when I was 2 and had a boy before I was 3 years old. In Chinese tradition, her son is considered as my nephew and he always calls me aunt.

Something like this happen on my mother's side too. My maternal grandpa was the oldest and his baby brother is actually younger than my dad. Somehow late in his life (after his children grown up), he has a daughter and according to the great Chinese tradition, she is my aunt and she is about half of my age now.

Yeah yeah yeah. That passing shots are terrific. I taped that two TB too. My heart jumped out when he lost his minor break to Dent. But he was so calm, didn't even look a little panic, just minding his own biz kinda way to hit that passing shots and sent Dent packing. I must watch this one again tonite. That's the little coverage I got from Cincy, not Blake or Arthurs for me.:sad:

More news from the ATP site.
---------------------------------------------------------

Henman, Roddick Fall as Federer, Ferrero Close In on Shanghai
Swiss star stops young American, Nalbandian ousts British defending champion.

On an action-packed quarterfinal Friday at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in Basel, Tim Henman and Andy Roddick saw their hopes to qualify for the Tennis Masters Cup dim, while Juan Carlos Ferrero and Roger Federer moved closer to securing bids to next month's season-ending championships in Shanghai.

Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian upset the top-seeded Henman in a thrilling 2-hour, 41-minute clash, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2. Henman was the champion in Basel in 1998 and 2001, and had reached the semifinals every year since 1997. With his quarterfinal loss, he picks up just seven points in the ATP Champions Race, putting him in sole possession of seventh place with 428 points. He must perform well at next week's BNP Paribas Masters in Paris to remain in the top seven and qualify for Shanghai.

Nalbandian, meanwhile, is one match away from his third final of 2002 - in addition to his Wimbledon showing, he won his first career title at Estoril in April. The Argentinean appears to have snapped out of the slump that had followed his remarkable run at the All England Club, as prior to this week he was a dismal 5-9 since Wimbledon, a stretch during which he suffered six first-round losses.

The most anticipated match of the day turned out to be the most one-sided, as hometown hero Roger Federer, the third seed, eliminated young American star Andy Roddick, seeded fifth, 7-6(5), 6-1. Federer has reached the final in Basel the last two years (2000, l. to Enqvist; 2001, l. to Henman), and will be looking to do one better this year. He has picked up 10 Champions Race points thus far this week, consolidating his No. 6 position, and can leap past Jiri Novak for fifth place by winning the tournament.

Roddick, meanwhile, has now lost five of his last seven matches, beginning with his crushing quarterfinal loss to Pete Sampras at the US Open. He gained no ground in the Champions Race this week, meaning he remains in 11th place and most likely needs to reach the final in Paris next week to have any shot at going to Shanghai.

Second-seeded Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero started slowly in his quarterfinal matchup against countryman Felix Mantilla, but rebounded to capture a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) win that brings him within two points of Marat Safin for the No. 3 position in the ATP Champions Race and within two wins of cementing his Shanghai bid. Safin's early-round loss this week in St. Petersburg prevented him from adding to his current Champions Race points total of 469, while Ferrero's win puts him at 467.

Ferrero's next opponent will be hard-hitting Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, the No. 7 seed, who also had a tough battle on Friday. Gonzalez downed French shotmaker Arnaud Clement, 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5, to move into his first career indoor semifinal.

If Ferrero defeats Gonzalez and moves into the Basel final, he will pick up enough points to pass Safin for No. 3 in the Champions Race. If the 22-year-old Spaniard wins his third title of 2002 (TMS Monte Carlo, Hong Kong) on Sunday, he will clinch a berth in next month's Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai.

What the Players Said

Nalbandian: "I think I played really good tonight. It was very difficult, I started a little bit nervous. The key was the tiebreak and the first game in the third set. Maybe he was a little tired in the third set."

Henman: "I the third set I was beginning to feel a little bit tired. He gave me a lot of work. In the second set I could have been a little bit more aggressive. It's frustrating to lose a match of this nature."

Federer: "I played a great match. I hit a couple of unbelievable shots in the second set, which got the crowd going. It was one of those days. It was nice to be able to win in straight sets. The match was similar to my other matches, my opponent was serving big. I saw he had some problems moving. He is a fair player, he applauds good shots."

About his next opponent: "Nalbandian is a tough opponent. I have to watch out. Last time in Monte Carlo I won three games, I want to do better than that. My first three matches have been a lot of fun."

Roddick: "I think Roger played very good tennis today. He is playing well here every year, he doesn't really have any weaknesses. Beside my serve I didn't do anything well tonight."

Ferrero: "Maybe I was a little lucky. I think he played a great match. He is very solid, he did few mistakes in the match."

"We have always had difficult matches, today wasn't any different. In the tiebreak you never know who is going to win. I played very aggressive, I knew I had to win the points."

"Tomorrow I have a chance to reach an indoor final for the first time. It's important for me to improve on every surface. This is the fifth week in a row that I play, I'm a little bit tired but I'm still playing well."

Mantilla: "I had my chances in the second set. He was playing more aggressive than I did in the tie-break and I think that's why he won."

Gonzalez: "We know each other very good, we played several times the last couple of months. He [Clement] is a great player on this surface. Yesterday I played really, really good. That gave me a lot of confidence for today."

"I started to work with my new coach, Horacio de la Pena, about a year ago. We have had a lot of good results together. He makes me play like I used to do. He saw that I like to be offensive and hit the ball. I try to always go for it, if I lose I lose."

SEMIFINAL PREVIEW
The crowd is sure to be roaring for Roger Federer in his Saturday semifinal encounter with David Nalbandian, as the Swiss star was born in Basel and will be bidding to reach the final there for the third consecutive year. Federer has an excellent opportunity to solidify his chances to play at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. If he advances to the final, he will move into a tie for fifth place in the ATP Champions Race with Jiri Novak at 446 points, and he can move up to 461 points by winning the tournament. The 21-year-old has put together a strong season in 2002, winning three titles (Sydney, TMS Hamburg, Vienna) and reaching two additional finals (Milan, TMS Miami).

Nalbandian, 20, made a name for himself at Wimbledon with his stunning run to the final, where he fell to Lleyton Hewitt. After finishing last season at No. 70 in the Champions Race, he stands at No. 15 in the 2002 race, and captured his first career title at Estoril. Prior to this week, however, he was just 5-9 since Wimbledon. In their only previous encounter, in the second round at this year's Tennis Masters Monte Carlo, Nalbandian crushed Federer in straight sets.

Juan Carlos Ferrero has his destiny on his own racquet this weekend as he attempts to become just the third player to qualify for Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai. The equation is simple. Should he defeat Fernando Gonzalez in Saturday's semifinal and then go on to claim the title, Ferrero will join Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi as confirmed starters for Shanghai. If he beats Gonzalez but loses in the final, Ferrero will displace Marat Safin in third position in the Champions Race, but his place at Shanghai still won't be guaranteed.

Ferrero is looking to reach his fifth final of the year, having won titles at Tennis Masters Monte Carlo and Hong Kong and finished runner-up at Roland Garros and Kitzbuhel. In the past two seasons Ferrero has won six titles and appeared in 10 finals. Ferrero is 45-21 on the season and has the chance to top 50 match wins for the second consecutive season (57-21 in 2001).

Gonzalez, who finished last year's ATP Champions Race in 135th position, currently stands 17th in the Race and looks certain to finish inside the Top 20. Never before has he finished the year inside the Top 100. The Chilean No. 1 has won titles in Viña del Mar and Palermo this year, and also reached the semifinals of the Tennis Masters Series event in Cincinnati. He is 39-20 on the season (he went 5-10 in 2001). Gonzalez overwhelmed Ferrero in straight sets in their only previous meeting, in the third round of this year's US Open.

lol @ Lee! good point.

no Vera, i sadly never got to see the actual match. but i did read an article and post-match report that went through the match in detail, and i kinda played it out in my mind. ;) and i've seen some cool pics of Ferrero and the Spaniards during their wild celebration. :)

Oh, okay. Pffffff ESPN, never liked them, never will:mad: But I do think I heard they mention showing Davis Cup this year, are they? I'm even thinking about going to visit my sister in the States at the DC week, if ESPN is really carrying coverage. :rolleyes: @ myself for being so desparate. :D

Ya, I know what you mean, I think I've read every single articles about the DC match available on internet. His winning shot image in my mind is as vivid as if I've seen it live.:)

:) Vera, what about Juanqui's great QF match vs. Rafter in Montreal 2001? Even though he lost, he played well and was gracious in defeat. He was actually being funny and hit a funny little drop shot. I think it was the best match of the whole tournament. ;)

I actually don't remember too much of that match. :rolleyes: @ myself, bcos 2 of my faves played each other and I didn't remember much except that Pat won. I actually planned to go to Montreal to watch that TMS last year. I love Montreal so I want to watch the TMS in Montreal instead of Toronto. I wanted so much to watch Pat before he retired. But then, vacation plan changed last year from Montreal to Hawaii bcos a relative got married in Hawaii. Would have been great if I was there to watch.

I'm back! :wavey: But perhaps I shouldn't be. :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: You'd be spared my anger, lol. :p Warning, unpleasant thoughts ahead. ;)

FUCK!!! I just can't believe the awfulness of this day. I HATE Gonzo, I can't stand players of his type. He must be the most frustrating opponent imaginable. To me, he's the male equivalent of Serena, only with zero brains. He just blasts the ball as hard as he can and prays it goes in. When he's on (read lucky) he's unbeatable, but he can also start missing by a mile. I have no respect for that devil may care attitude of his.

And what's even more annoying are his grunts. :rolleyes: They sound like out and I could never be sure Juanqui's serve was out or whether it was just Gonzo's grunt. He even managed to faze Juanqui. I think he lost a very important point because he thouth the linejudge called his serve out and he lost concentration. :fiery: He should not be allowed to do that.

Juanqui wasn't playing badly, but he did fall apart in the final set. I think Gonzo got to him and you'd have to have nerves of steel for him not to drive you absolutely crazy. Damn, Juanqui had an early break in the 3rd set but then played a very poor game which included a double fault and from then on he didn't win another game. Did I mention I cried during the last game? :sad: :sad: :sad:

Ok, this is what you need to know about me. This is the list of players I detest, hate or can't stand, whichever: Guillermo Canas, Fernando Gonzalez, David Nalbandian, Paradorn Srichaphan, Davide Sanguinetti, Andy Roddick, Marcelo Rios. So if you see any of these players defeat my faves, especially in important matches, you'll know what mood I'm in. ;)

So guess what kind of mood I'm in when 2 of the finals read like this:

Gonzalez vs. Nalbandian, Srichaphan vs. Rios.

I can honestly say I don't give a shit who wins any of them.

Thankfully, my darling Seb is still going strong, and I like Misha too, so that tournament is the only one I still care about.

ALLEZ SEBASTIEN!

TennisHack
10-26-2002, 05:32 PM
Kimmy! :bounce:

Daniela :rolleyes: :mad: To Alexandra Stevenson?!?!?! Alex better take the title, then . . .

The only reason I care about who wins the finals now is because two of the players (Gonzo--DON'T KILL ME!!!! and Paradorn) are on my team this week. I don't really like either of them but they would help my totals if they took the titles this week.

Misha :bounce::bounce: is also on my team!! I hope he can keep the title in the hands of Russians for another year :) but won't be too disappointed if Sebby wins. It will take a lot of the pressure of his defending next week off, and that's always good.

I said in the Basel thread that this is a good sign, today, this match. Our darling got a set, and if Gonzo really got to him, well, we know that Juanqui had him and Gonzo had to pull out the Agassihole shit to win. :rolleyes: I think it's only a matter of time before Juan Carlos claims this little rivalry a la Marat Safin.

:sad: :sad: :sad: :sad: :sad: :sad: :sad: :sad: Shitty Day!:sad:

I'm so worry about next week. So I did this to calm myself down.
Worse case scenario:

If Juanqui was unfortunate enough to get overwhelmed by the T(hai)dal Wave, he will end with 468 points. 4 players will have to past him before he got pushed down to 8 and miss Shanghai.

Here's what the next in line will have to do in Paris to make that happen:
Player current need to do
Novak 446 make Q --->471
Rogi 433 make S --->478
Henman 428 make S --->473
Moya 421 make F --->491
Costa 393 win ---->493
Haas 389 win ----> 489
Roddick 384 win ----> 484

Okay, lets say Novak's injury is not that serious, he and Rogi and Henman get to Q, and Semi respectively, JC will still be at 7th.

Moya to make Final, well, I have faith in Carlos, but Final would be tough. Costa will be lucky to win a match. Haas hasn't win any tourney the whole year even if he's health, but I won't rule him out, though I don't hope he will shock me by winning Paris. Roddick winning Paris? hell, in his dream maybe.

All in all. I just want to say chance of Juanqui missing Shanghai is really slim. I know I will still be nervous for him next week. But Juanqui is better than Srichaphan. He should dispose him, no prob. Vamos baby.

Vera
10-26-2002, 05:56 PM
Gonzo is officially on my hate list. I'm worry he may have a psychological edge on Juanqui. Damn Gonzo, hope he lost the final tomorrow. :fiery:

Rogi lost to Nalbandian.:mad: who would have thought Basel will have a Latino final. :rolleyes:

Well, Seb must win the final tomorrow, he needs all the points he can get to keep his ranking high.

LOL, you fickle boy! ;) I've always like Kimmy more than Justine. I like Kim's powerful, agressive game much more than Justine's finesse. I didn't Martina Hingis and her finesse game either. I guess it comes liking men's tennis 100x more than women's . . .

actually it was her horrible mother who first turned me off. but after hearing some of Alex's comments and her lame excuses after losses i disliked her even more. and truthfully i think her game is so damn ugly. alot of winners, but also tons of doubles faults and errors. i dobut she will ever be able to win anything big unless she improves that crappy 2nd serve. :rolleyes:
