 Okay, you guys, this is just downright eerie.:eek::eek:

I translated the article Mrs. B was teasing me about earlier today, and this is what Michel had to say about his "dream girl":

"I am perhaps - may think even if that some no unusual humans. Are important to me with a Mrs. Werte, who indicate probably my contemporaries. A woman must not have blond or black hair. And it is also not important to me whether them are large 1.60 meters or 1.80 meters. For me count the radiant emittance, the cordialness and the humor of a woman. I would like to discuss and still more to laugh be able much with a Partnerin. And I dream - like every different one also - once about a family."

(translation or original article, courtesy of Google so don't laugh, here) (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.coopzeitung.ch%2Finde x.cfm%3F%25ABMein%2520Potenzial%2520Ist%2520sehr%2 520gross%25BB%26pub%3D1%26id%3D6022&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools)

I fit that description very, very well. Physically and personality-wise.

:eek::eek::eek:

Vera
10-16-2002, 02:25 AM
I can barely understand the translation. But he seems very specific of what he doesn't care:D. Okay, if you fit the description, is time to plan a trip to Switzerland, don't you think? :D :D :D

What he's saying is, he doesn't like blonde or black-haired women, doesn't care if they're tall (or large), and wants someone with a radiant personality who can make him laugh.

I don't know if I can get to Switzerland -- Mrs. B will have to put in lots of good words for me ;) and I'll have to plan a trip to a US tournament that he's playing in.

All the same, WOW.

Ok, on Jarkko

I first saw the guy play last year in Stockholm (back there we used to have even better coverage). I got to see him ousting Enqvist and then his final lost to Schalken.

He has grown up as a player a lot since then.
I heard he´d been struggling these last times, but that was not at all the case today.
I didn´t get to see the first set, as they had some stupid taped program on , but from the second set on, he looked very smart, and playing right doses of power and accuracy.
Quite impressive, I should say. Its a shame that at every point of the match one of the two would be on a mini-slump, so you cant really measure how well the other was playing. It would have been better if we could get to see both on top conditions at the same time.
Anyway, his backhand was quite good, and his drives were very good. He hits passing shots easily, and he had a good serve most of the two sets. Also, he was grand on creating oportunities for himself, but then he kind of choked to convert them. He fought hard all the time, and moved pretty well too.
Too bad that his feet get very close to the base line as he serves, and that makes him pay on some key points when foot faults are called.

Ok, I guess thats enough. :wavey:
;)

Thanks very much, hitman :) It only adds to my newest cycle of hysteric happiness.

I wouldn't necessarily say he's been struggling as of late, since he's been playing on a much higher level this year than this time last year.

Of course, I haven't seen him since TMS Cincinnati, when PMac and C.Dri couldn't get enough of him (at least in the first set  )

It's good to know he's playing well, though. I hope he can take the title next week :)

He did choke when he served for the match on 5-4 second set.
He had some stupid errors, but on the break point it was Jarkko who shined.
On 5-5, Jarkko served a great game, as Juanqui did on 5-6
The tiebreak was shaky, both had good and bad moments. Ferrero, though, had 3 errors in a row to go from a 6-5 lead to a 6-8 loss.

Thats it, overall

One last thing:

"Immediately following Moya's victory on Pista Central, another top Spaniard had the crowd holding its collective breath as he fended off an upset bid - No. 5 Juan Carlos Ferrero, who survived against Finland's Jarkko Nieminen, 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-5.

The duration of the match was identical to that of Moya's, at 2 hours and 41 minutes, and was marked by high-risk tennis from Ferrero, who finished with 53 winners and 50 unforced errors. Despite the close score, the 22-year-old dubbed the "Mosquito" said he never felt the outcome was in doubt.

"I always thought I was going to win," Ferrero said. "The second set was taken away from me, in a sense. Then I think with the help of the public, it was easier - especially in the most difficult moments, when I needed it." He next faces the winner of Wednesday's match between countryman Alex Corretja and Russian star Yevgeny Kafelnikov."

Watch out, Ferrero is confident!;)

Morning all! :wavey:

I just saw the DSF highlights, including Safin' bitter loss. Poor Marat, he was so angry. :(

Pfffffft. They promised us highlights of Juanqui's match today but then they only showed the last point. I told you DSF channel purposefully ignores Ferrero. Did I mention that this is NOT my favorite channel? They did show a very brief interview with him though, but it was dubbed into German so I couldn't really understand what he was saying. All I know is he said that he knew Jarrko was very good on indoor courts since they play a lot of tennis indoors in Finland. Then he said something in Spanish about how wonderful the atmosphere was and he thanked the crowd for their support by blowing a kiss to the camera. Awwwwwwww. How sweet! :hearts:

I love his hair right now. It's just perfect. And he was so happy and pumped when he won! He didn't seem tired at all. :) But the one player who was even more pumped after his victory was Moya. He fell on his back, then squatted and pumped his fist, before finally standing up. He let out an audible sigh of relief. The Spaniards are really eager to do well, you can see it in their faces. :) There was a cute point in the 3rd set tie-break. It was 5-3 for Moya and Gonzalez hit a huge forehand that clipped the net and flew towards the line. Moya though it was going out and made a little jump but before his feet even touched the ground again the ball fell inside the line and he slumped in disappointment. Lol.

And lol at Ferrero too. The second set was taken away from him? :p Yeah, Juanqui. You know it rightfully belonged to you. ;) Too funny. :D Glad to see him confident though. :)

Finally, an interview with Ferrero at one of these events! :)

Q. Moya said that his match was a very emotional one. What about yours?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No, not mine. It was quite a hard match. The crowd has been very supportive, but it was okay. What was important for me was the final point when we beat Australia in Davis Cup. I can't compare this, because that was really an emotional moment.

Q. Was there any moment in the match that you thought that you were going to lose?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No, no. I always thought I was going to win. The second set was taken away from me, in a sense. Then I think with the help of the public, it was easier ‑ especially in the most difficult moments, when I needed it.

Q. Your last trips, the jet lag, has this affected you?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: It affected me more in Vienna because I was coming back from Hong Kong. Now it's a bit more under control, after being in Vienna. Now we are used to the time change.

Q. He's a difficult player, and he hits the ball very hard. You tried to go to the net, but it was difficult.

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yeah, today I wasn't very focused on the net. Sometimes he made good passing shots, but others I was able to win the point. He has a good backhand, and I tried to attack all the time. It got more difficult. This surface is hard with these players.

Q. Are you happy with your serve?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yeah, even with my second serve. I had some breakpoints. The surface is not so quick.

Q. You have a lot of pressure in the third set. Did you think you could miss your chance to go to Masters Cup?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: At a point, I was a bit worried, but I got over it ‑ not only for the Masters, but also because I want to win in Madrid.

Q. Are you disappointed with your game or happy with your game today?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No, no, I'm not disappointed at all. I might have made some mistakes, but I think I won.

Q. Now you play Corretja or Kafelnikov.

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yes. They are different players. Corretja's ball bounces very high. He's very solid. Kafelnikov, he plays more flat. I will change my game if I play Alex or Kafelnikov.

Q. Which one do you prefer to play?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: I don't know.

Q. It's been an impressive season, but a tight match today.

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yeah, the season has been great. From the beginning, I had some injuries. The rankings are very tight now. What we do now will be quite important for the ranking, for the Masters.

Q. You are used to playing under pressure. We could see that in Davis Cup. Do you feel stimulated by the public? Do you like the pressure you have here in Spain?

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Well, we love to play in Spain. You are more comfortable because the public is around. It's better to play at home, that's for sure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

lol @ "but I think I won". :D He uses we a lot in the interview. Does he mean Spanish players? Such a tight group they are. :)

I think his fans on this board get a little defensive and go a little overboard sometimes, but I don't have a personal animosity towards him.

If he defeats one of my boys, perhaps that will change . . .

It will be great to see him and Juanqui play against each other again. :)

Poor Tommy had to retire again. But I can't be too sad cause that means Fabrice moved on and will now face Nalbandian! :) I'm hoping he doesn't have enough experience to play the Magician, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. ;) Anyways, good luck!

I have mixed feelings myself, but I often do with Spielberg's movies. Yeah, I enjoyed it, very much so. The story is wonderful, but then it was written by Philip K. Dick, so no wonder. Rememer Blade Runner? :) Definitely in my top 5 fave movies of all time. On the other hand, there were quite a few flaws and some scenes that were completely redundant or even annoying. But all in all, it's a fascinating movie. I'm glad I went to see it.

ZURICH (Reuters) - Top seed Jennifer Capriati was crushed by Spaniard Conchita Martinez, 6-0, 6-3, in the second round of the Swisscom Challenge Wednesday after suffering an injury to her ankle.

The American world No. 3 insisted the injury to her left ankle would not prevent her from playing in the end-of-season WTA Masters event, however.

"I am still looking forward to the Masters," she said. "I don't know what the injury is yet but it hurts. I didn't feel anything in the first set, but I felt it at the beginning of the second."

The match, which lasted only one hour and 17 minutes, was Capriati's first after being handed a bye through the opening stages and she admitted that a lack of match experience on the slow indoor courts made it difficult to get going.

"I had problems getting into the match," she said. "I would have rather had no bye and played in the first round. I would even have preferred to play in the qualifiers."

The match began as a one-sided affair with former Wimbledon champion Martinez continuing to recover her old form, which was evident in her first-round defeat of Swiss hope Myriam Casanova, to hit winners with ease.

The 30-year-old, who opened the match with a comfortable service game, went on to break her American opponent three times on the way to an impressive love set which left Capriati's head bowed.

Martinez, ranked 47th in the world, extended her astonishing run of winning games to seven with another easy service game to open the second set.

Capriati's hopes took a further blow when she was forced to call for the trainer after twisting her ankle during the start of the second set.

Martinez took the opportunity to practice her serves as Capriati was attended to by the side of the court, but the American refused to give up and returned to the baseline to play out the match.

Although unable to put any weight on her injured and heavily strapped left ankle, Capriati's tentative opening steps after treatment showed signs of promise and she won her first game of the match.

The games then went with serve until the sixth, when Martinez got the break and nudged within sight of victory by taking the score to 4-2.

Capriati continued her stubborn resistance by hitting through a love service game in the next, but Martinez finally served out the match to claim only her third quarter-final spot of the year.

The in-form Spaniard will meet either Yugoslav Jelena Dokic or American Alexandra Stevenson in the next round.

LOL at this article! Ferrero leads 2-1 in the head-to-head, idiota.

Spanish Heavyweights Duke It Out in Madrid
By Richard Evans - Tennis Radio Network

A match up between Spanish heavyweights was bound to happen sooner or later at the Tennis Masters Madrid and, sure enough, Juan Carlos Ferrero - light in build, but heavy in achievement - will face off against Alex Corretja on Thursday in a match that promises to pack the Rockódromo.

Strangely, the pair have only met three times. All have been on clay with Corretja, who won the last meeting in the final of Kitzbuhel this year, leading 2-1. So a clash on an indoor carpet will add a new chapter to their rivalry and, after the way in which Corretja fought back from a set down and a break down in the third to beat Yevgeny Kafelnikov Wednesday night, young Juan Carlos may find it difficult to realize his dream of becoming the tennis king of Madrid.

Prior to that match Carlos Moya, another Spaniard with much to play for, will face Jiri Novak, the deceptively languid Czech, who still harbors dreams of making a late run for a place in the eight man field for the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. Novak came into the tournament in 11th place and has seen Marat Safin, Tim Henman, Albert Costa and Andy Roddick all lose in the opening rounds. Novak is within striking distance of all those players should he progress to the final, but Moya presents a huge obstacle.

The tall man from Majorca scored a fine win over Fernando Gonzalez in the first round and is now level on points with Henman at No. 5 in the Race for Shanghai. Moya leads Novak 4-3 in career meetings but, amazingly they have not played since 1997 when Novak was the winner indoors in Ostrava. Expect a close match.

The Centre Court program opens with Fabrice Santoro, the double handed wizard of the drop shot, taking on the shock Wimbledon finalist from Argentina, David Nalbandian.

Hmmm, since I'm here alone, I feel like reminiscing about my trip to the USA, best time of my life. So if you're not interested, you can just skip this post. :p I just me talking to myself again. ;)

I was backpacking from the east coast to the west with a 45-day unlimited Grayhound ticket. After 10 glorious days in New York I set off on a night bus to Pittsburgh. On the bus I met a really nice (and cute) architect student and we ended up talking all night, but he was headed for Washington and i got off at Pittsburgh. :( What a shame. :p Pittsburgh was a lovely surprise though.

In the evening I boarded another night bus to Charlottesville, Virginia. It was a gorgeous sunny day so I just lounged around the centre, getting burned. :o

Another night bus took me to one of the most beautiful cities I've seen - Savannah, Georgia. :hearts: I finally checked into a youth hostel and spent the night. Sadly, there seemed to be no life at all after 9 pm in Savannah and the streets were deserted. Much as I love the beauty of Savannah during the day, I already live in a town that is dead at night, so no thanks. (I was scouting for a town to move into ;) ).

Next evening I set off to Baltimore, but after spending a few hours there I sort of freaked out. I got a very bad vibe off that place and since the youth hostel was closed anyway, I decided to skip Baltimore and go for Philadelphia instead. And a wise decision that was too. A much friendlier town. And the youth hostel where I spent the night was run by this nice Serbian guy so we got to talking in his native language and he treated me very well. :)

Next stop, the one and only Chicago. I only spent half a day there though (can't remember why). I remember it was raining, but I kept looking up anyway, because those buildings were so amazing I couldn't take my eyes of them. They fit together perfectly, from whatever angle you look at them. Not to mention the charming bridges over the river which really add flare to the town and can be seen in all the movies set in Chicago. ;)

A night train took me to Memphis, Tennessee where there were blues concerts in every pub and on the streets. The town itself is not very interesting though.

Continuing with the music theme, I next headed to New Orleans but didn't have a blast. After Baltimore, this was the only other town that freaked me out. I just didn't feel safe there at night and that's when life starts. The French Quarter was fascinating and again I met a great guy, half Native American. As we parted, he gave me a bundle of sage to keep me safe. I thought that was very sweet and just what I needed at the time. In the end I felt relived when I left the town unharmed. I've no idea what spooked me so much, maybe it was all the negative energy, voodoo and vampires. ;)

Next stop was San Antonio, Texas, where the youth hostel had a swimming pool  Belive me, that means a lot to a backpacker. :) It's a cute little town. There is footpath winding along the river just below the street and it's lined with shops and restaurants. Very romantic, especially in the evening.

Albuquerque was a huge disappointment. Maybe I only went there cause of the Neil Young song :o but it was sort of like LA. Enormous, sprawling away to the horizon, long wide avenues and low houses. You can't get by without a car.

But Santa Fe was a lot better. A bit on the kitch side, but I loved it. Two very nice girls gave me a ride from Albuqureque to Santa Fe and we stopped in an artists' community in an abandoned mining town. Back to the days of hippies. :) I could see myself living there lol.

Then I decided to go back to Chicago (a zig-zag) with a stop in Lincoln, Nebraska (the deadest town I've ever seen :( ). I was just in time for a blues festival in the park next to the lake. I had a fantastic time.

Ok, maybe I should stop now. I'm starting to bore even myself lol.

10-17-2002, 02:23 AM
Hi TH! :wavey:

Well, I only described half of the trip, but yes. In the end, Portland, Oregon won my vote. :) But there are so many places I could live in, even San Francisco (in the right neighbourhood). I loved North Beach (an Italian neighbourhood). There was this café called Trieste that was a wonderful place to sit around sipping your coffee. :) And Trieste the Italian town is smack on the Slovene border and used to belong to Yugoslavia anyway. It's less than 100 miles from where I live. To see its name 5000 miles away from home was really funny. :) Did you do any travelling?

TennisHack
10-17-2002, 02:32 AM
Not much, no. Only from my home state to the state where my college is located ;) I would love to travel after school when I have enough money to do so--across the US and Europe and of course Russia :hearts: And to get to Russia I'd have to fly to Finland, so I could stop by and see all of Jarkko's tennis haunts, so it'd be even better!! :)

Wow, you should definitely do that trip. :) Finland is supposed to be very beatiful, as for Mother Russia, well... it's got your heart already so you have to go. ;) But don't forget to stop by in Switzerland and pick up Miche. ;) He could be your travelling companion. :) Lol, I'm getting carried away, but I can't help it, I'm such a romantic. :o

lol Hitman! :D Was that you? ;) It's really too bad you didn't get to go on that studying program in Chicago. :( I can't even imagine how happy I'd be if I could spend 6 months in Chicago. :) Even its "subway" is ingenious.

About the game, no it's not boring at all. It's a lot of fun and you're running it perfectly. :) I've no idea why people aren't posting their teams. :( Maybe they're busy and they forgot. That just means that those of us who remember and send it every week will have a better chances of reaching the top. :p In the end it doesn't really matter how many of us play, as long as the core group is a fun one, which it is. ;) But perhaps it would be time to invite others to join the game, or is it too late for that?

I couldnt go, because I was kind of too young, and I was in the middle of school, and felt a little scared of leaving. Then one year later I was dying to go and couldnt anymore.

And about the game, I dont think it will be any good to invite people now, as we have like three tournaments to go.
Im planning some changes for next season though. I guess it will make it interesting :D *mysterious look*

Just checked out Alex's new website and found this article, it's Alex on his friends, the tight spanish group. Thought it's fitting to post it here the night before Alex and Juan Carlos fight their guts out tomorrow :)
________________________________

Tennis has given both of us (*this he meant Costa*) almost everything we have. But we will only have tennis for another three or four years. We will be friends long after we have stopped playing tennis.

When we do play each other in a tournament you just have to separate our friendship. The same thing happened with Alberto Berasategui, who is also one of my closest friends. It’s something I have struggled with at times during my career. Sometimes you think, "Oh, it doesn’t matter if I lose to him because he’s my friend," but after a while you realize that you have to try to beat everyone you come up against on the court. Right now if I play a guy like Albert, Carlos Moya or Juan Carlos Ferrero, I just do my business on the court and we’ll still be friends after the match.

Albert and I and our wives spend a lot of time together in Barcelona, going out for dinner. We’ve been on holidays together many times. I speak to Albert on the phone most days, sometimes three or four times a day. Albert probably knows more about my private life than anybody else.

Roland Garros
I was very happy to reach the semifinals at Roland Garros this year (2002), because I hadn’t played really well since July the year before. Last year I felt that I was ready to play and win, but this year I was happy to get to the semis.

I still wanted to leave Paris when I lost but I was very pleased that I stayed. Albert asked me to stay and it was a great moment for him to win. Even though I thought to myself that it could have been me, I didn’t feel jealous because I felt that Albert needed a big moment like that to realize just what a great player he is.

During the match I didn’t clap any points or show any support because I also am close to Juan Carlos. I spoke to him after the final and he understood perfectly.

*sigh*, why do they have to meet each other so early in the tourney:mad: :(

Layla

Morning, fellow slackers! ;) :wavey:

I sincerely hope I don't catch your virus today, I have a lot of work to do. :o And I want to get most of it done before Juanqui's match starts because then my time will be devoted to cheering and fretting. ;)

Thanks for the great article on Alex Vera! I love his new official site. I think more players should have sites like that. :)

Today's highlights featured Agassi's match (what else  ) and Alex's match (for which I am truly grateful). They promised the Ferrero vs. Corretja match highlights for tomorrow but I want hold my breath. I don't want to get all excited for nothing again. :p I'll let you know tomorrow.

That's about it for now.

Vera, thanks for the article :) It's great to know the Spanish players are such good friends, and it must be wonderful for Alex to have such a close friend in Albert on the tour. It can be lonely out there . . .

But I have to go with my #1 boy today and wish Juan Carlos the best of luck!! Do well, my dahling! I'll be around to cheer again for the last part of the match, because I have the exact same schedule as Tuesday  Maybe Moya will bless us with another long match so I won't miss all of it. ;) But I'll try to get back as soon as I can and help you cheer! :bounce:

Hello there, TH! :wavey:

I'm not hoping for a long match by Carlos. ;) I want him to win in 2. :) But the length of the match doesn't really matter, since Juanqui's match doesn't start until 5 pm, which is 1 hour and a half away.

Blame it on my darling Santoro, who creamed Nalbandian 6-0 6-2 today!   :D Looks like I was right yesterday. I'm sooooooo happy for Fabrice. :bounce:
