So much coverage this week and I won't even get to see him play. :( This tournament is a disaster. If they don't show that Moya-Blake match tomorrow I'll stop watching altogether.

The one time there's coverage every day from 1-8 pm and I don't get to see Juanqui. This is beyond unfair. :fiery: Every day they show all but the last match and yet he had to play late at night on both occassions and now he's gone. I'll stop rambling now. I don't even want to talk about it. I'm too depressed.

It doesn't help that I'm fasting today which makes me more emotional anyway, so if anyone's doubting I'm crying real tears right now, don't. Ok, I'll go in search of a tissue.

ILR
10-10-2002, 07:56 PM

Two major upsets highlighted today's action at the CA Tennis Trophy in Vienna. Top seed and defending champion Tommy Haas was dethroned by Austrian wild card Jürgen Melzer, while Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero went down in straight sets to Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic.

The home crowd cheered wildly for Melzer as an ace on match point punctuated the 21-year-old's straight sets dominance over Haas, 6-4, 6-3. For Melzer, who has cracked the top 100 this year for the first time in his career, it was the biggest win in his three-year professional career and his first-ever victory over a player ranked in the top 10. It sets up a quarterfinal match against Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic.

Along with Novak, Andrei Pavel is the only other player through to the last eight without dropping a set. Pavel defeated French Open champion Albert Costa in the first round and dispatched Germany's Rainer Schuettler, 6-0, 6-4, on Thursday. Pavel, who has three career singles titles and has won a tournament in each of the past two seasons is looking for his first win in 2002.

Two matches went three sets today: Roger Federer needed nearly two hours to defeat Spain's Tommy Robredo, 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4 and Russia's Nikolay Davydenko defeated Radek Stepanek, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5. Federer had a match point at 6-2, 5-4, but Robredo leveled the match at one set all after holding serve and then winning the second set tiebreak.

In other action, American James Blake defeated Germany's Nicolas Kiefer, 6-4, 7-6, in their first career head-to-head meeting. Blake, who has one career ATP title to his credit, broke Kiefer in the 10th game of the first set and went up 3-0 in the second before Kiefer came back to force a tiebreak.

In the final match of the day at the Vienna Stadthalle, Bohdan Ulihrach made quick work of Juan Carlos Ferrero, ending Ferrero's unbeaten streak against the Czech. Ferrero was 3-0 versus Ulihrach entering today's match.

What the players said:

HAAS: "I think I played better today than against Youzhny. I was a little bit lucky to have won yesterday. I'm disappointed that I'm not able to defend my title. On the other hand it was a bonus for me that I could play at all. I've tried all kind of things to cure my shoulder."

About TMC
"My main goal is to qualify for Shanghai. That's why I wanted to defend my title here. I'll give it my best and I'll try to do everything in the next three weeks."

About Melzer
"He's a very good player. He risked a lot and he was rewarded for that. I think he has a great game."

About having his parents courtside this week
"It's nice to know that they could be here to watch me today and in the future. It could all have been over. My parents are happy that they are still alive."

MELZER: "I'm really happy that I won. It was a great match for me, I'm very happy. I felt very confident on the court today, it was real fun out there. I tried to play point by point and not to think too much, which worked out great today. I played my best tennis today and I acted great on court
I learned a lot from the errors I made on Tuesday."

PAVEL: "I played really well in the first set. I got off to a good start breaking him in the first game, everything went my way. He missed a few easy points getting a little bit tight. The break at 3-3 in the second set was very important. I was a little bit sick in the beginning of the week but now I feel much better."

FEDERER: "It was a tough match, just like I expected. I knew I had to play well to beat him and that is what I did today. I worked hard to win the first set and then he deserved to win the second set. I was a little bit lucky in the third set and I'm happy that I managed to come through."

BLAKE: "Nicolas played great tennis, he was hitting from everywhere. I was feeling really good today and I played really well today. It felt great. I think I play my best tennis indoors, I'd like to think I have a chance to win here."

ULIHRACH: "I had nothing to lose today and I served very well. The surface here suits me, I like it a lot. I've played a lot of matches since the US Open, which has helped me a lot. I lost a lot in the first and second round earlier this year."

About playing Federer
"Again, I have nothing to lose. He's a top five player and he is fighting for a place in the Masters (Cup)."

FRIDAY PREVIEW
Friday's quarterfinals day includes several first-time match-ups. The opening match of the day pits Andrei Pavel against 21-year-old Nikolay Davydenko. In Vienna, Davydenko has reached the quarterfinals of an ATP event for the second time in his career (2001 Basel QF), as he looks for his first-ever ATP semifinal.

The day's second match features fourth-seeded Carlos Moya against James Blake. Moya, who has captured four titles this year, has been having his best-ever season on hard courts. He won TMS Cincinnati in August and, last month, reached the final in Hong Kong, losing to countryman Juan Carlos Ferrero in three sets. Moya could overtake fifth-placed Tim Henman in the Champions Race with a victory in Vienna. Blake captured his first title in Washington, D.C. this summer and looks for his third-win of the year over a top-10 player (d. Haas in Memphis, d. Agassi in Washington).

Young Austrian, Jürgen Melzer, has quickly become a fan favorite at the Vienna Stadthalle this week and plays veteran Jiri Novak. Just one year ago at this tournament, Melzer, then ranked No. 195 in the world, notched his first ATP match win when he defeated Fabrice Santoro in the first round. Now, one year later Melzer is within the world's top 100 and a contender to win after his hard serving knocked off top seed and defending champion Tommy Haas.

Roger Federer plays Bohdan Ulihrach in the final match on Friday. A win in Vienna could greatly improve Federer's chances of reaching the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai as the Champions Race heats up. Federer would move to seventh with a tournament victory

You're back! You're back! :bounce:

I was beginning to get worried. I know how you feel. I'm trying to translate but every now and again tears rush into my eyes again and blur my vision.

I HATE BOHDAN! :fiery: There I said it. I hate him MORE than Younes. At least Younes is likable. :p

And the bad news keep flooding in. My internet link keeps getting disconnected and I have to reboot every few hours. Seems like my woes are not completely over. I shudder to think what this could mean, so I won't.

And the match between Lindsay and Kimmy will be on last, so there's no chance I'll get to see it on tv. :fiery: Everything sucks today.

But at least you're alright. :) I thought something might have happened to you when you didn't show up to cheer.

I just finished part of my translation (still have another exercise to do, the Russian exercises this year are so completely stupid and pointless  ) and I'm starting to calm down, but I can't help feeling like my world has just fallen apart today. And my one common trait with Hackie is that I don't like that panicky feeling you get when you realise you're in over your head in something. But unfortunately, I will not finish all of my work tonight because it's not physically possible. :(

Kimmy, Dani, and James are going to have to carry me through tomorrow, they can't all lose on the same day. :(

But my heart is still with you, Juanqui. Don't get too disappointed by the lost. Look ahead and get some good result at home. We love you!

Best of luck to Rogi. He can win this tourney and get closer to Shanghai. And Allez Seb, I'll be back to cheer on for him for sure.

Top Seeds Haas, Ferrero Humbled in Vienna
Thu Oct 10, 4:46 PM ET
By Julia Ferguson

VIENNA (Reuters) - Top seeds Tommy Haas and Juan Carlos Ferrero both crashed out of the second round of the indoor CA Trophy at the hands of unseeded opponents on Thursday.

Defending champion and top seed Haas of Germany was thrashed 6-4 6-3 by Austrian wildcard Juergen Melzer, while second seed Ferrero of Spain lost 6-4 6-2 to Czech Bohdan Ulihrach.

The demise of the two top seeds leaves Spanish fourth seed Carlos Moya (news) as the hardcourt tournament's highest-ranked player in the last eight.

Melzer, ranked 95th in the world to Haas's second, showed no respect to his German opponent and earned his biggest upset to date as well as a quarter-final berth.

"He exerted a surprising amount of pressure ... and the fact that he's a left-handed player makes him even more dangerous," the defeated Haas said.

Melzer said the raucous home crowd at the Wiener Stadthalle inspired him to play "near flawless tennis."

"I just tried to play each point as it came, not to think too much and ultimately it worked out really well," the 21-year-old former junior Wimbledon (news - web sites) champion said.

Haas, who has not won a title this year and is nursing a sore shoulder, fought to the bitter end but was overwhelmed by the tenacious play of his opponent and was let down by his own serve.

Melzer plays fifth seed Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic in the last eight.

In other second-round play, Swiss sixth seed Roger Federer had to work hard to dispatch unseeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-2 6-7 6-4.

The 21-year-old, who is aiming for his third tournament title this year, raced through the first set in impressive style and thwarted his Spanish adversary's sole break chance.

But the Swiss choked in the second set as Robredo found his rhythm and forced Federer into numerous errors.

The final set was a bitterly contested battle as both players refused to be outsmarted and ran down every ball out far and wide of the court.

SEALED VICTORY

Federer eventually sealed victory on his fourth match point after two hours on the hardcourt.

"I knew it would be a good fight -- he runs and plays very well," said Federer.

"I'm very satisfied that I could win this match because I gave away a lot of points," added the Swiss, who also reached the quarter-final stage in Moscow last week.

American James Blake also progressed to the last eight, dispatching the last German from the competition with a 6-4 7-6 win over Nicolas Kiefer.

The dreadlocked New Yorker from Yonkers attributed his win to patience.

"He (Kiefer) really can hit winners out of nowhere, and you can't get too down if he fires a couple of aces -- you've just got to play the percentages," said the 22-year-old Blake, who now faces fourth seed Carlos Moya.

Romania's Andrei Pavel unleashed a near-flawless power game to dispatch German Rainer Schuettler 6-0 6-4, while Russian Nikolay Davydenko battled past Czech Radek Stepanek 6-1 5-7 7-5.

Morning! http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/a_smil11.gif :wavey:

I have a feeling this will be a much better day. ;) Hope I'm not wrong. The good news is that yesterday is no more. :p And we have survived. :D

The match between Escude and Pless has just started on Eurosport. Of all the exciting QF matches in Lyon, this is the one we get to see. I would much rather see Grosjean vs. Clement which I'm sure will be a cracker of a match, or how about Guga vs. Safin, a mouthwatering prospect. Mathieu vs. Bjorkman wouldn't be bad either. But no. Escude it is.

In Vienna Pavel is getting ready to play Davydenko. GO ANDREJ!!!

:wavey: Leo! Have a good day at school. Lalya is cheering for Kimmy. ;) Sorry about that. Kimmy is my first fave after all and Lindsay is my second. But I would kill to be able to see that match. It's too bad about the scheduling at all three tournaments.

Well, at least I'll get to see Moya vs. Blake later on in the day. :) Looking forward to that one, whoever wins. It should be a great match. I'll keep you posted.

:wavey: Ciao, Layla!!!

You already sound better today, that's good to hear...:)

But i just saw the last set of Escude's match, man, that Dane was on a roll, wasn't he?

Well, at least they're showing Marat & Guga's match on Eurosport @ 7 pm, i don't know if they'll show Roger's match or not, in either case, i won't be around :( but i would love to find out the scores even when i'm at this party tonight.

Hubby says i'm too obsessed with tennis, that there is life beyond tennis, but i can't help it...;) And i totally agree with iluvRogi, it's quite addicting to come here. :D

btw, the last pic of Juanqui says it all... awww, poor thing. But he's alright, he'll also draw strength from the fact that his best fans in the whole universe are right here! I just hope he knows that.

Layla

Dobro jutro, Mrs. B! :wavey:

That's good morning in Slovene. ;) Yeah, I feel a lot better, thanks. :)

Escude was tired today, but Pless was on fire, much like Nicolas was yesterday. But it's weird to take out Kafelnikov, only to fall to a qualifier in the next round.

Now I'm watching Pavel vs. Davydenko, but I can't wait for the Moya/Blake match to start. :) I don't think Roger's match will be on Eurosport today. They'll switch to Safin vs. Kuerten. But I won't be here anyway. I have aerobics class at 7 pm.

Hehe, we're all obsessed about tennis here. ;) Nothing wrong with that.

Ooops, Pavel just had a match point on Nikolay's serve but he didn't convert. And another one, but he blew the return. Come on Pavel, close this match. :) Not gonna happen. 5-5 :(

Have fun at the party tonight! http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/a_smil09.gif

I know, there are lots of great matches going on today, but it seems it was confirmed in the live scoring thread that Moya/Blake would not be on? I don't know--I don't get any coverage, so it's all the same unfortunately :(

I would love to see the Guga/Safin match, the US Open match was such a letdown but this one promises to be better. I hope hitman tells us about it somewhere :)

I, too, will be cheering for Kimmy because I don't want her to fall out of the Top 10 which she is in danger of doing at the moment :( GO KIMMY!!!

Hi TH! :wavey:

Moya/Blake won't be on Eurosport, which is what people were complaining in the scoring thread. But I get that special Austrian channel that covers Vienna all day, so I'll get to see it. It should start in less than half an hour as Pavel has just won! :D

Daniela is playing right now. :) She leads Alexandra Stevenson 4-0 in the first set, two breaks already. :) GO DANIELA!

Ok now that I was happy for Kimmy, I can be sad for Lindsay. What can I say, I'm a split personality. :p Poor Lindsay, she hurt her leg a little, but I don't think it was serious. She had her thigh strapped. This is the first time she didn't make the semis since her come-back. :(

But they both played so well. I only saw the first two sets, but it was great match. So much power! I have to say Lindsay was serving a lot better than earlier in the week, so that's an encouraging sign.

Ok, switching over to the ATP!

Thanks. Lobsters dinner made me gained 2 lbs this morning. Good that I went swimming to try getting rid of those 2 lbs.

Ya, me cheering against Moya:rolleyes: it's so unheard of. That's what I thought I will do, but maybe I won't be able to do that when the game start tomorrow. I was so torn just now watching Marat and Guga's match that I couldn't say a cheer for any of them, I don't know who I want to win. :( Surely happy for the winner though, who turns out to be Guga.

And Seb's match should be started by now. This one is better cos I like Arnaud but I like Seb more so I can singleminded cheer for him. Allez Seb. Damned that draw though, Safin Vs Guga, Seb Vs Arnaud, and I like them all, it's so hard to cheer. Well, you might have misunderstand me, Mrs. B. I actually was suggesting to change the name of the thread. Because I remembered we have another name for this thread at USO, and then the name was changed after USO to MAX Miryni Forum Please. And I thought it would be fun to change it again, that's all. :p

Morning all! :wavey: http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/coffee.gif

Just wanted to pop in and say hi before I bury myself in work again. It's a gloomy day here in Slovenia. The sky is so gray I had to switch the light on. I put some Abdullah Ibrahim on and am all set to begin translating.

Regarding your question Vera; I don't know, I kinda like this name. It feels like home. :) I know we've changed it several times, but this one seems to have stuck. But I wouldn't mind a change if most of you want it.

Mrs. B, this thread was never intended to be the cheering thread for Juanqui, it's a chat thread to talk about anything and anyone. ;) So it doesn't really matter what it's name is. It got the current name because we wanted to show our support for Leo's quest to set up a Max Mirnyi forum. :) Oh and by all means try to find internet cafe's at the beach. ;) We'd miss you terribly. :(

Leo, don't be sad. :( Lindsay played so much better than last week or in the first match against Smashnova. Trust me on this one. She was serving a lot better. I think that's an encouraging sign. True, she lost. But you should've seen Kimmy. She's been on fire all week. :) If Lindsay continues to improve like this I see no reason why she shouldn't win a title before the end of this year.

Hitman, I'm sorry to hear you lost. :( But if you enjoyed the project and were proud of what you achieved, that probably matters more, right? :) Congrats on a job well done. :D

Right, that's it for now. See you later, I'm signing off. :wavey:

Hi, Layla.

Yeah, after the "anger" was gone I could see that it was very good any way. I dont care if the people like what we did, since Im sure many OTHER people would have liked.

:wavey: Hitman!

I'm glad to hear that. Hmmm, I missed your live scoring. :o But you're so sweet for posting the scores. :)

The reason I missed it is that I was busy watching Kimmy win!!!

That's right, after a tough match with both of them playing fantastic tennis, Kimmy finally managed to win. She was down a break for the entire third set but she fought hard and broke back when Amelie was serving for the match at 5-3. :D She won 5 games in a row beind 5-2 down.

CONGRATS KIMMY!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

And now I will miss Moya's match, because I have to go see my best friend who is moving to Scotland in a few days.

Ferrero has a bye and then faces the winner of Nieminen vs Schuettler. I guess TH wont like the draw that much :(

Congrats to Rogi & Paul-Henri!! P-H must have come up with the goods to take down Guga. I'm very happy that he's coming into his own, he might join the to-watch group on my website :)

NO, I haven't seen the main draw yet but knew I'd have to write up my preview tonight before updating my website. Jarkko vs Juanqui?!?! Oh, dear. It's a dream match for me, but I also hate that it's coming so soon in the tournament :fiery:

First Jarkko has to get through Rainer Schuettler, so I'll concentrate on that and take the second round as it comes ;)

Hey, you're back!!! :bounce: But I wasn't here and now you're gone. :( Well, I've been incredibly busy myself and still am, so I don't have time to chat anyway. But I do have time for a little celebration. ;)

I don't know which Porsche she got but they all look good to me. :D

Article on Yahoo: :D

FILDERSTADT, Germany (Ticker) - Kim Clijsters overcame a cold and Daniela Hantuchova to capture the $625,000 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Sunday.

Clijsters defeated Hantuchova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in only the fourth final in the last 25 years of this event to extend to three sets.

The sixth-seeded Belgian earned $97,000 for her second title of the year and her first since the Betty Barclay Cup in May.

"I don't know how I'm still standing after these three matches in the last 48 hours," Clijsters said after a final that lasted nearly two hours. "When I drove the Porsche on the court at the end, I just wanted to lie down, and with having a cold, I really started feeling it in the third set."

In the first all-teen final and the lowest-seeded championship match in the event's history, the 19-year-old Belgian broke Hantuchova in the ninth game of the third set before serving out her eighth-career crown.

"I just told myself, 'One more match to go, then I can have a few days off before playing in Zurich,'" Clijsters said. "I'm really proud, though, of winning these three very tough matches over Lindsay (Davenport), Amelie (Mauresmo) and Daniela."

Hantuchova, 19, was hoping to capture her second career title. She was the surprise winner at Indian Wells in March.

"Of course I am very disappointed," she said. "I had a really big chance to win the tournament at 4-4, 40-15 on my serve, but Kim is a great competitor, a great fighter."

The eighth-seeded Slovakian will have to settle for a career-high singles ranking of No. 9 when the list is released Monday.

"I can be happy with the way I played this match - I was aggressive when I needed to be," said Hantuchova, who took home $51,500. "Getting into the top 10, too, this week - or should I say next week - is very special for me, and I'm excited about this."

Hey, Layla! I'm here! :)

Still working on updating my website, LOL. Tons and tons of pictures that I missed while I was away.

Kimmy chose a 2003 Porshe Boxster over a $97,000 winner's check. That's what she and Dani are sitting on in the picture I posted. It's very lovely.

Hmmm, depending on who wins the 1st round match, I might be the one who's more upset. ;) Rainer is one of MY faves, but that's not even the worrying part. He's got a winning record over Juanqui. :( He leads 2-1 in their head-to-heads. True, Ferrero won their last encounter, but that was on clay and Schüttler retired with a muscle pull. And let's not forget it's a second round match. Well, technically anyway, otherwise it's the first match for Juanqui, so it might be alright. ;)

Anyway, looking forward to Madrid and live scoring. :) Obviously, there's a very important week ahead of us. The first decisive Master.

It's never too early to wish him luck, so

GOOD LUCK JUANQUI! :)

Oh hi TH! :wavey:

Good to see you again. :) So I posted the wrong car then? :o Nevermind. Like I said, they're all beautiful. :D

I'm happy about Roger too. :D It's good to see him out of the slump. I saw that ceremony and the moment when he cried. It was incredibly sad and moving. Brought tears to my eyes. But I'll never forget how he cried when he won in Hamburg. :) He just couldn't help himself. I love the fact that he's emotional like that.

Oh yeah, Slovenia got trashed by France in the European Cup qualifiers (soccer) 5-0. Ouch. What a disaster.

As for Mathieu, what can I say. The kid is phenomenal. Even though he must have been dead tired, he kept firing his awesome shots and taking risks. His backhands down the line were out of this world. Congrats on 2 titles in a row. :D

Yes, that's one of my favorite Kim pictures. :)

Unfortunately, the only ones I saw of Daniela today were of her being really frustrated and throwing her racquet :(

But I think it's really great that they're playing doubles together in Zurich this week! That's going to be really strange

I wish I could have seen Rogi's speech, I was quite moved by the picture when I saw it (hence posting it). He's still thinking about Peter . . . I hope that gave him some of the courage to break out of the slump. All he has to do now is give some pointers to Micha :(

LOL, I'm in and out too, I'm editing my translation. But I probably won't be able to do that for too long. My concentration is waning. ;) I'm just searching through the web for certain words. I'm might have to do the actual final editing tomorrow though. But that's just the first text, I still have the other one to do.

I didn't hear what Roger said about Peter at the ceremony. :( The stupid Austrian commentators kept talking very loudly and he was speaking in German anyway. At first I thought he was crying because he was happy, but those were not really tears of joy, so it occurred to me that he might be speaking about Peter.

Lol, I know you guys don't really care about Koubek, but I thought this was funny.

->> - CLOWNING AROUND...During the CA Tennis Trophy in Vienna, Austrian No. 1 STEFAN KOUBEK made a stop at Circus Roncalli, Germany's most famous circus, which currently is performing in the Austrian capital. Not content to sit and watch, Koubek got into the spirit of the occasion by shaving his beard and dressed up as a clown complete with a full makeover. He then performed in the Circus Roncalli Show as a clown, impressing all those present by juggling plates and tennis racquets. "Normally I never shave during a tournament," said Koubek." But with all the make-up I have to put on, the beard just had to go." Other players visiting the Circus during the week were NICOLAS LAPENTTI, MARIANO ZABALETA, XAVIER MALISSE, AGUSTIN CALLERI, GUILLERMO CORIA and JIRI NOVAK.

I can totally picture Koubek as a clown. LMAO! :D

Thank you for the compliments :) I hope I'm at least partially right about one of the quarters, because lately I've not been so great at picking the winners. Surprisingly enough to me is that Paul-Henri Mathieu isn't playing, he didn't even get a special exemption from qualifying!! So that angle's out, as well as Hewitt. I'm secretly happy he's not playing, I think it opens up the draw more :o

Don't worry about not being able to pick the winner. You're not the only one. :o Last week was particularly bad for most of us at the prediction game. There HAVE been so many surprises in the past few weeks, nobody could have predicted that. Unless they were psychic.

I really hope you will join the prediction game when it starts from scratch next year. :)

My favorite cars are closely related to Porshes--Mercedes Benz. Not really the newer models that are weird and boxy looking, but the older, more stately models.

Congrats to Rogi and his devoted fans! He's baaaaacck!:bounce: I would like it very much to see Rogi and Juanqui together in Shanghai. I won't mind if the season end today, this will be the ideal Race position for all my faves. Just everyone holds their ground until TMC.

Congrats to Guga too. Though he lost and that made Hitman sad. But Guga's back to his great form and that's good news. He'll be back to Top 10 in no time. Paul-Henri's 2 in a roll, way to go! And if there's any consolation to Hitman, Brazilian team won the Men Volleyball World Championship today. Brazil is now dominating the football and volleyball world, that's a lot to celebrate about.

Kiefer lost in Quali  to Jan-Mike:fiery: I hope JMG gets his ass kicked in the first round by Pavel.

Well, good luck to Alex in his first round against Vicente.
And good luck to Juanqui.

Just a quick hello.

TH, I'm sure you could handle the prediction game. You like predicting anyway, right? We skip the early rounds anyway, so it doesn't take a lot of time. I'll work on persuading you during the off-season. ;)

Pffffffft @ your coverage. I was hoping you'd give me the reports. That sounds like really crap coverage.

lol Hitman, I've already asked her and she said dream on. :p Porsche is my dream car. :hearts: One day I will own one. :D

Vera, I'm so mad at Gambill for taking out Kiefer. :fiery: Thank goodness Santoro made it through. *phew*

Why is the draw in Madrid only 48 anyway??? It's a master, so it should have a draw of at least 64. Can someone shed some light on this?

Right, gotta run now. Good luck to all my faves today. :)

Good morning, all! :)

The Jarkko-Rainer match just ended, and I'm quite happy to report that JARKKO! will be seeing Juan Carlos in the second round. It was a nailbiter of a match, even just the few seconds that I was able to follow. The score was 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5), and Jarkko was trailing in the tiebreak  After having his serve broken before he could serve for the match.

Obviously Rainer played a good match, a breadstick in the first round, but I'm very very very happy that Jarkko made it through :) And I'm also positive that unless Juan Carlos isn't on his game, Jarkko won't be able to beat him--it's a confound, and I really wish I could see this match :(

Roddick and Ferrero Enjoy Vintage Mercedes-Benz Tour

Spain's tennis sensation Juan Carlos Ferrero and American Andy Roddick took part in an early morning tour of Madrid Monday in a 1954 Mercedes-Benz Adenauer roadster, as part of a promotion to launch the inaugural Tennis Masters Madrid.

Cruising with the cabriolet top down, the two popular stars traveled in style to the famous Palacio de Oriente, a royal palace, via the Gran Vía. Also joining Roddick and Ferrero on the Mercedes-Benz tour was Manolo Santana, the tournament director. Roddick and Ferrero are just two of the big names in the main singles draw at this year's Madrid event, which begins with first-round action Monday.

Juan Carlos looking mighty fine :)
