Aw, well we're glad to have your support here on the Russian side, for whatever reason :) If the Argentines were playing anyone but Russia I'd probably be supporting them right now (with the exception of Switzerland and Finland--and yes, the US :o:o:o).

LOL, I'm on this board most of my free time ;) It's not weird, it's pathetic. :o

Am I the only person around here who couldn't care less for Kim Clijsters? I don't know what it is - she seems nice etc etc - maybe it is her game I dont like  Ah yes, but Allez Justine :D

Possibly :o I mean, I think it's a little give and take. I'm not the biggest Davenport fan, or Seles, but I sort of deal with the cheering here. I can cut down on the Kimmy stuff if it bothers you :)

I like watching Justine play, but I'm not a fan. ::shrug:: She has some beautiful shots and she's very powerful, but she chokes up when she tries to close. That's not so fun to see :(

And funny, I like Kim's game because she is so agressive and not afraid to play down and dirty.

Oh, well, whatever floats our boats, LOL.

::sigh:: It seems I was wrong about the rest of our TV coverage.

After this tie, we will not have coverage of a tournament until TMS Madrid, and that's only half a week. Also only half a week is TMS Paris, the next men's tournament being televised.

And, of course, the Masters Cup at the end of the year. It will probably be the full week. So very few opportunities left for we Americans to see our boys in action!!!!

And I can't BELIEVE they are showing the ladies from Moscow, but not the men. :fiery: GRRRRRRRRRRR :fiery:

So I will definitely be enjoying every bit of PMac that I get this weekend, for it will be long before I hear him again. (is this a good or bad thing?)

Oh no, by no means stop :o

I just meant that I didn't understand the fuss about her ;) Not here so much, but on the WTA board more. Some Kimmie fans just about peed themselves in shock that some people don't like her :o

I don't NOT like her - I don't root against anyone :) I like to pretend to of course ;) but in truth I never could do that, unless I personally knew someone and didn't like them ;) :D

I just feel "meh" about her lol

See? My magic worked. ;)

Arnaud Clement won!!! in 4 sets: 4-6 7-6(6) 7-6(5) (6-1)

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

And Safin's match is also turning around. :) He is now 2-1 up. When I wrote that message, both of them had lost thier first sets.

But I am still worried about Tim and Michel. Come on boys, fight!!!

Btw, regarding the cheering. I think we should all feel free to cheer for or talk about anyone we want. I understood what Rebecca meant, because I saw that thread on WTAworld and I found that funny too. Some people just could not fathom the idea that Kimmy is not beloved by all. Thank goodness our tastes are all different.

And I will even survive Rebecca cheering for David :p should she wish to do it. Hell, I could even take someone cheering for Younes :fiery: ;)

Hmmm, seems like everyone's gone for the weekend or something. It's still friday morning for me so it's still awhile before my Weekend arrives. I've so much to do today and I haven't even started. Oh well.

I'm extremebly happy with the DC results so far. It's great that both France and Russia are holding up strong, though there's a few roughs on the way. No matter, as long as they arrive at the W at the end. Now if they can just take the double tomorrow:D
And seems like Guga and company also has no trouble taking out our boys. :( though there was never a doubt moment anyway, still sad.

Well, and Salem is just another couple of days away. Can't wait for Juanqui to be in action again so that we can cheer for him.

Hi Becca :wavey:

I like that site too. She's pretty complete with info of JC. And I'm also excited that she's going, hopefully it will be a lot of close up of Juanqui. Lucky her for having a tourney happening in her city. Or maybe lucky us too since she's gonna have a great report on her pretty sophisticated JC website.

It seems that the media is cool off of him, not really that many articles about him now as in the previous 2 years. Well, it's understandable that it's more media value when you're new kid on the block. I did find an article about him a couple of months before, its in Italian and after the google translation, I can barely understand it. But that whoever guy was criticising JC's game that's all I know. I hate those, they jump on the bandwagon as quickly as they jump off. :fiery:

Anyhow, we'll see if JC can make up more splash in the upcoming months. I believe he will.

Vera

There should be a lot more articles in spanish, as I believe he is the most popular spanish player in Spain (well, anyone is welcomed to correct me if she/he thinks not).

I also plan to learn spanish. :o and that he is indeed part of the reason why I want to learn:o . Well, good thing that one idolizes a spanish guy, that gives you motivation to learn new language. :D Hehe, I actually plan to visit Spain in the future, hopefully near future and it would be helpful if I know at least a little spanish. I can also use it in Mexico, when I can finally go sometimes in the not so near future. :)

Hola, Vera and Rebecca!

Yep, there are more articles in Spanish from Spain -- I check them regularly for any news on Juanqui or the other Spanish players or any tennis news at all. You can get more of an insight and sometimes info that doesn't exist anywhere else -- pretty neat, eh?

Re: the Italian article, I may be able to help -- I studied italiano and can understand most articles -- did you get it from tennis oggi? I look at that site from time to time also.

My problem is not knowing GERMAN -- source of my main info for ROGI!!!

Anyway, did you know that Juanqui was saying that he wants to prove that he (and Spanish players) can play and win on any surface, not just clay.

RIGHT ON!

Vera
09-21-2002, 01:13 AM
Wow, that would be great if you can translate. Good thing that I did copy the whole thing in a MSword file (just in case I tumble into someone who knows Italian). It's pretty long and I don't want to post it here for all to see (in case he did point out JC's weakness, better not let the other know:p ) Hehehe, I'm silly, I know.

I don't even remember how I came across it. But Tennis Oggi is unlikely the one. I've never heard of it in fact. Ya, it's such an advantage if you know spanish:D :D :D

Sorry, can't help you with the German. I did take German in high school, but since it's a long time ago, I've given it back totally. But I'm some others here can help if you come across something interesting. I like Rogi too (Though I never really venture into Rogi's forum). I just hope he can return to his top form like he was at the beginning of the year.

Did Juanqui say it recently? I am hoping that his performance this summer gives him some confident that he can do well in all surface. ;)

Hi Vera! :wavey:

Disappointing is a bit of an undertatement. They were DISASTROUS!!! :fiery:

Well, that's not entirely true. Federer and Bastl won. :) And Great Britain won the doubles match!!! :bounce:

But the rest. Pffffft! Both SF matches were just heart-breaking. Poor Marat and Yevgeny. At least Santoro and Llodra don't have to play tomorrow. I'm really upset about this, but then a 6 hour 39 minute match will do that to you. ;)

And needless to mention, Slovenia lost 0-3!

How are you anyway?

Vera

Hi Layla. :wavey:

I'm fine. :bounce: Sunny day again. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Oh, poor you. It must have driven you crazy watching the whole thing online. I know I would have. But I was just sleeping when they were there fighting their heart out. I can't believe a 6 hours plus match. I wonder if they can still stand at the 5th set.

Ya, makes me really worry thinking that both of them have to play double tomorrow. I hope Marat will hold up better since he's the young guy. Just one more match and they are thru. I think I'll pray for them tonite. I'm also worry about the french tie. Is Seb's back still holding up? He shouldn't have any problem getting rid of Roddick, unless his back acts up. Please, let them win. Well, and Britain and the Swiss both improve their position today so that's not a total wash.

Vera

Oh, sorry to the Slovenia team. Probably be the same fate for the Canadian team, just a matter of time. But it's double day today, maybe we can take this one.

Layla
09-21-2002, 06:56 PM
Yes it was driving me crazy. If I could at least watch it on TV. And the Davis Cup site kept breaking down so the scoreboard would get stuck from time to time. Well, you know how it is. ;) But I'm not complaining. At least I have internet access now as opposed to 3 months ago. Before I had to wait for the scores to appear on the Slovene teletext which was usually hours behind and if the match was played during the night, the scores wouldn't appear until 11 am. Now I can always follow the scores. :D

I think Sebastien's back is fine. It didn't seem to bother him during his match so he should be able to do great tomorrow. But I'm a little worried too. I'm very disappointed Santoro and Llodra lost their doubles match. That wasn't supposed to happen. It's a good thing both Arnaud and Seb won yesterday. ;)

Oh and Canada should be able to win the doubles match, I agree.

Ya, that wasn't suppose to happen. Oh well, I'm sure they just want to create more suspense. But don't worry, everything is gonna be okay by tomorrow, I can still smell the French Russian Final coming. So is it Russian's chance to hold the final since French is defending? I don't quite know how it works.

BTW, the draw from Hong Kong is still not out, it's sunday in Hong Kong already, well sunday 2am. I wonder who JC's gonna draw, hopefully not Chang or Srichaphan. Though Chang is not like he used to be, but I think Hong Kong is like his second home and he always plays well there with the whole crowd behind him. Srichaphan is way too hot these days.

I still would be quite shocked if Russia lost both singles matches tomorrow, fatigue or not.

Though it is best that Marat wraps it up, because Kafel is going to be mroe tired than he...

That said, it really should be 2-1 argentina. The Russians have fed off the inexperience of the Argentine team.

Hmmm. The Hong Kong draw is not coming out til monday??? Is the tourney start monday then???

Anyway, Safin is a work horse, after tomorrow, he's gonna play single and double in Hong Kong, wonder who he plays double with.

I went to read the 1001 reasons on Rogi's forum, cos I want to add mine and check if it's already on or not. Anyway, they started later than ours but they've gone to 173 reasons already. Hmmm. I think we need to work on ours.

Oh, don't worry. I will think about those reasons. I have a hard time falling asleep these days so I actually thought about those reasons a lot instead of courting sheeps.

So you are working now! Poor you, working over the weekend. But then, maybe it's good, that you might be able to come up with the money to watch JC in Madrid or something. Well, think positive, that's what I'm saying.

Layla
09-21-2002, 11:33 PM
Hehe, thanks for the positive thoughts, but the money I'm making now will never get me to Madrid. :( But any money is helpful, so yes, it's a good thing. But I'm not only working on a Saturday night, it's also past midnight. I just want to finish something before I go to sleep.

Vera

Vera
09-22-2002, 12:41 AM
Hehe, I cheat. It's a younger him I was showing you. The present him looks a lot older. But still, he's a legend (with much better reputation than Maradona).

Of course, nowaday, he shows up in my dream less and less. In fact, I was dreaming that I attended a Juanqui match in person, just that he kept changing courts and I can't keep up so I missed him. Oh, so cruel, even in my dream.

I've been trying to manipulate my dream these days because I kept dreaming about nasty things (not nearly as nightmare but just not pleasant). So I try to look at pictures of him and some of my favorite stuffs before bed so that my dream will turn out good. I hope he returns tonight.

Layla
09-22-2002, 12:50 AM
Does it work? I had a very similar dream. I was at a tournament where he was playing against Santoro and I couldn't get to the court. Something always came up or I got lost. I just saw him for a little while and then had to step outside for a second and lost the court again. Horrible. :(

But I will follow your advice, look at my favorite pic of him and go to bed. I am sooo sleepy and exhausted and I finally stopped working.

So good night. :wavey: Hope you have sweet dreams. ;) I'm pretty sure I will. http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies/sleeping.gif

Vera
09-22-2002, 12:53 AM
Too weird. same kinda of dream. though it's not uncommon that we all dream about him. :o :D

Well, I'll try again tonite and see if it works. Hope you have better luck too.

Sweet dreams!!! Say hi to Juan Carlos for me!!!:)

RogiFan
09-22-2002, 03:46 AM
:)

Funny dream about Juanqui!! I sure hope the Swiss win w Rogi's match tomorrow -- they and he need it BAD! Well, he said he was going to kick ass -- ja!

Nacho -- Good for Spain that there are some good junior guys coming up!! I wish I had been at the DC in Barca 2000 -- I w/have gone LOCA!

Madrid? Vera, you want to go to that tournament?? S/be muy interesante, no? About time Spain got a major tourney.

Photo of Baggio says INDIMENTICABILI -- inforgettable!

I think I prefer Becks...

Now, I'd really love to see a clay tournament -- damn, I missed Hamburg this year -- and I even told someone I didn't care who won and I'd be happy if my players got to the Qtrs -- well, what a treat when my Rogi won the whole thing and Marat, Tommy R and Max were in the Semis -- I'd say pretty good!!! [I think I was depressed after ROMA -- what a washout -- Agassi winning -- Haas was hopeless vs. him!]

At least Juanqui won MCarlo vs. Moya -- another good tourney w Spaniards in the Final!!

but i digress...

DC reverse singles: Go, Rogi, go! I hope France wins and Russia and Brits (but I like Paradorn) [who cares about Germany... so easy for them]

And yes, I saw Juanqui live -- he's fast! Moya and Rios are also good live!! And esp. ROGI!!!!

Bye bye!

Vera
09-22-2002, 07:26 AM
Hey RogiFan, Rogi is gonna kick ass, don't worry!

So I remembered, you mentioned you were in Spain couple of years ago. You mean you were there in Barca and didn't watch that DC final  Wow, what a waste of opportunity. Well, you can always order the tape now like I'm gonna do.:p

Yes, I would love to watch that TMS in Madrid. Watching the spanish guys playing in front of home crowd. I've been to enough hockey games to love the home court atmosphere, there's really no place like home. But then, my priority is still Roland Garros...

Baggio is indeed unforgettable, at least to me! :) Becks is perfectly good looking. But I try not to like him too much, because Juanqui has occupied enough of my brain cell that I can't handle another drop dead gorgeous guy anymore. :D But he is a pleasure to watch.

I missed the whole clay court season this year, was traveling. Did get back just in time for Roland Garros. I wish I can watch MC and Hamburg (more tape to order, maybe I should get a loan).:)

That Salem Open website is pissing me off. I've waiting up for the draw but it's been in the updating mode FOREVER. I did read someone's msg in the Salem thread that Juanqui is playing Koubek:mad: Corretja playing Chang:fiery: and Moya playing Gambill:mad: :fiery: :fiery: Geez, if it's true, it sucks big time. Can they just all draw a qualifier or something:fiery:

Well, I give up, can't wait anymore. They better finished the UPDATING by the time I get up. :fiery:

Hi ILR! :wavey:

You're not gonna hear his name from me. ;)

I can't find the draw anywhere so I wonder where this information is coming form. It does sound bad, but I wouldn't worry about Koubek. That was just an aberration, a bad day for Juanqui (2nd round). It's not like Koubek has his number or anyhing lol.

I take that you guys have seen the Salem draw by now. So the info is confirmed that JC is playing Koubek indeed. If you haven't seen the draw, don't waste your time at the Salem site, it's USELESS! Check it on the atp site, Salem Open, Single draw. JC is playing Blake in the QF, that's if he gets there. Though, he shouldn't fall to Koubek again, really.

Yes, LMAO @ Andy and James. That's just the result I wanted. :D Since France won (and Sebastien won both his matches - my hero :hearts: ) I was very happy that James won his last match. :) I almost feel sorry for Andy, poor lad. ;)

How do you convert pics to a different format?

Oh yes, did you have a nice weekend?

TennisHack
09-22-2002, 09:56 PM
Hi, Layla! No one's around, but I have so much to catch up on :o :o

Yes, I had a relatively good weekend. :)

I have photo-editing software that can change the pictures I save into various formats (jpgs, bmps, etc etc) because for some reason my computer doesn't recognize pictures if I save them from the net. So I have to conver them. I'm really going to be pushing the bandwidth on my website, but it's worth it. Lots of Jarkko and Michel from this one weekend :)

I can't believe that Andy lost both of his matches. Usually he's super good in Davis Cup. Oh, well, I guess that winning streak had to come to an end sometime. Congrats to France on that one.

I am sooooooooooo ecstatic about Russia, though. You just don't know :D Or maybe you do :o!

IN all due respect to Andy, he's usually super good against players who are ranked well below him- as in 50-250 sports below him :p

So his "unbeaten record" the media went on about, was a little overrated in that sense.

Indeed, the media blew it out a bit, but undefeated is undefeated, no matter who you're playing. I figured it would be tarnished after this tie, but I didn't expect him to lose both matches, in such a bad way.

::hugs:: for David. He played singles, finally, but Safin was just a little better. Perhaps Zhenya was whispering in his ear ;)

I have an idea of how happy you are TH. ;) Thankfully you weren't here following the marathon match. I was heart-broken after that. When you follow the scores for 6 1/2 hours and your team blows match points and then proceeds to lose, it's not pretty. :(

But Marat made up for it and wasn't too exhausted to play after all. :) That was pure will-power.

Layla, I too am glad I wasn't here to follow that; I would have driven everyone crazy! Six and half hours . . . isn't that a record of some sort? And then they blew it. I guess Marat was out for revenge today, and he definitely got it.

Good luck to Russia in the final!!

BTW, you never wrote the new installments? This new translation must really suck.

Layla
09-22-2002, 10:27 PM
It sucks big time but I already complained on the Hill and I won't do it again. :( And when I'm finished (in a few days) I have to write the horoscopes for this week, so I'm really screwed. You mean with all the Davis Cup action or trying to find info on Hong Kong?

When will you post another commentary? I really enjoy those. :)

TennisHack
09-23-2002, 02:06 PM
Well, my first class of the day was canceled. So it's turning into a good day after all :)

Trying to update with all of the DC stuff, plus Kimmy made it to the final in Tokyo (only to be shut out by Serena in the end :(). So that's a lot of stuff.

But since I'm around for a while longer now, I'll try to help you figure out the schedule.

Well, what do you want me to write about?

TennisHack

Time zones really suck. I just went to the ATP website and clicked on today's order of play, and it gave me tomorrow's. Never fear, Juan Carlos is playing TOMORROW, on TUESDAY.

Order of play:

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO :D vs Stefan Koubeck

followed by:
(not before 7:30 pm)
Alex Corretja vs Michael Chang

followed by:
(not before 8:45 pm)
Carlos Moya vs Jan-Michael Gambill

COURT 1 (matches start at 4 pm)
Radek Stephanek vs Nicolas Massu

followed by:
Jonas Bjorkman vs Cecil Mamiit

followed by:
Sandar Groen/Marat Safin vs Rich Leach/David Macpherson

followed by:
John Hui/Anthony Ross vs Joshua Eagle/Sandon Stolle

COURT 2 (matches start at 4 pm)
Magnus Larsson vs Fransisco Clavet

followed by:
Jeff Morrison vs Takao Suzuki

followed by:
Agustin Calleri vs Nicolas Lapentti

Oh goody, I love it when that happens. :D

Hong Kong preview? Preview of the Race to Shanghai? US Open analysis? Just some suggestions. ;)

TennisHack
09-23-2002, 02:26 PM
Hmm, thanks :) I've been trying not to write too many previews to tournaments, keeping them only to the TMS events. Because, you know, that's not really commentary :o But I'll think about your other suggestions, especially the TMC one . . .

Unfortunately, just because one class was canceled doesn't mean I don't have work. :( ;)

HELP!!!

I need a synonym for the adjective variegated (ugly word and not in the least appropriate) that would describe an educational trail that leads through diverse landscapes.

Thanks. :)

TennisHack
09-23-2002, 05:29 PM
Roget's to the rescue!!

Varigrated--adjectives:

varied, various, diverse, diversified, many-colored or many-hued, polychromatic, dichromatic, kaleidoscopic(al), chameleonic, iridescent, opaline, prismaic, motley, calico, mosaic, brindled.

Let me know if you need more, or possibly the whole sentence. :)

Layla
09-23-2002, 05:32 PM
Thanks. :)

If I say the trail is diverse, would that be correct or is diverse not supposed to be used as a predicate?

TennisHack
09-23-2002, 05:34 PM
"The trail is diverse." That's a correct sentence, because the verb "is" links the adjective to the noun.

Okay, ILR, as the newest queen you can officially pronounce me a DORK. I accept this (do I have a choice?) and give up my sub-2000 coolness.

Alex and wife is indeed a great looking couple. I assume she's spaniard too, does look spanish to me. She looks very friendly.

And Nico.   Well, I like Nico, for the obvious reason :D

That's why HK is great. This small tourney (up close and personal) and every hunks is showing up, Alex, Carlos, JC, Nico, Marat, James...(and no Roddick, that's a plus to me) only if Seb's there too....

Yes, I'd love to attend a small tournament -- like Gstaad or Barcelona or Rosmalen or Queen's or sth. And yes, great boywatching potential!! [I too am NOT a fan of Andy -- someone called him a drama queen somewhere.] But Marat and James -- yes, yes, please!! We seem to like the same guys, for obvious reasons, as you say!!

Hehe, RogiFan, you and I have lots in common, indeed. I like Rogi, I agree that he has good taste, not to mention his great game. But I don't like long hair in men. I only like them tying up their long hair when in play, when the long hair is floating, not so cute on a man, IMO.

Well, I don't mind a TMS of sort either. That's the only time in the year that I wish I live in TO. But, then a small tourney is good. Look at those ppl behind the fence standing so close to JC :( and that's not too many so you don't have to fight thru...

Great if he's in Shanghai. That's his goal this year. I recently just met a JC fan who lives in Shanghai, she told me some Chinese interviewed him at the beginning of the year and he told them his goal is to go to Shanghai and then visit the Great Wall afterward. BTW, my new friend has ticket to TMC Shanghai so she promised to take a lot of pics if JC gets there. So please, he most be there.

I totally agree w you re: final of Kitz -- would I love to have been there!!! I love all-Spanish finals! But I wouldn't mind a Rogi/Juanqui final -- depending on where, I might change my mind on who I want to win -- but I love them both and want to see them play each other. They have such different styles -- it w/be v. interesting to see how they interact. But I w/get dizzy from TOO much beauty on the court -- physical and athletic!!

Thx. Layla. And your local time now is 12:20am, right? I'm at 3:20pm so it's 9 hours behind you and so I'm 15 hours behind Hong Kong. Okay get it.

Hey all :wavey:

What a day this has been, Russia-wise. Not only did Mikhail Youzhny's father die, but there was a Russian actor who died in an avalanche that killed 100 people. I don't remember his name, but he was in "East West" which I loved.

:sad::sad::sad:

Good night and sleep tight. See ya tomorrow, hopefully with some good news about Juanqui. ;)

I don't know if this has been posted, but it's on the front of the ATP website. Juanqui :)

Morning! http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/coffeecup.gif :wavey:

I was expecting to see some results upon waking up. :( What's going on? Is it still raining. The suspense is killing me. Argh.

It's been raining in Ljubljana as well. In fact, it's so dark and grey outside, it feels like November. It's about as cold too. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/cold.gif

We all missed you Hitman! :( I was beginning to wonder where you were. Tell the teachers to back off because you are needed at the ATPworld. ;)

Serisouly, I hope their initial excitement will wear off and they won't give you so much work. Do try to drop by whenever you can. :)

Morning, Layla! :wavey:

Hehehe at our cartoon :)

Weather Forecast for Hong Kong. (http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/local/CHXX0049?whatprefs=) As I type it says mostly cloudy, but indeed there are scattered thunderstorms in the forcast. I wonder what will happen if two days of play are missed?

Morning TH! :wavey:

Yeah, I thought we needed something to make us laugh when the weather is so dismal. Well, I don't know what it's like where you are. I don't like this weather forecast at all. But mostly cloudy does sound at least hopeful. We should be able to see some play today, I hope. At least the conclusion of Juanqui's match, so I can stop worrying. :p
