2007 Preview - by Nathaliia:

People in Florianopolis despite the poor money prize should expect some decent players showing up. Because it's the week of Davis Cup, the guys taking part in Latin American ATP swing (hitting from quallies to max. 2nd round) decided to appear in city of Guga. He will get one of the wild cards, by the way. His career end seems to be quick and sad, like Rios' finished by some random Guzman in a random challenger. It's hard to expect a Brazilian to win this event - Mello has been accused of choking and jerking by one of Brazilian posters (hello, Gu!), Daniel reached top 100 once and that's it, Alves can't take another step while Saretta is... (whoops, derossi might be reading). If Zabaleta enters this event - he seems to be the most dangerous "floater", because nice to know he's treating his career seriously and is about to be back to ATP level, where he still belongs, as he keeps showing us. Argentinians should dominate in Brazil again - this time rather not Junqueira - I'd give more credits to Berlocq. If you don't know whom Charly is, a short reminder. The one who double bageled Donald Young on hardcourt, and then got double-bageled by James Blake. Oscar Hernandez and Albert Monańes will be about to reach high rounds.
Looking beyond the main entry list, apart from Zabaleta, Fabio Fognini and Rogerio Dutra Silva may cause some fuss.

Guga confirmed:

http://www.cyclusopendetenis.com.br/noticias/01.html

26/12/2006 - 15h14min

Actually you wrote some wrong things, like Brasil probably won't take the title (which is a full absurd, seeing that Guga was once the best player in the world and won 3, I said THREE Roland Garros, and despite Zabaleta, no one in the field had better rankings than Saretta, Mello and Sá). Other mistake of yours was to doubt of the Magic Clown potential; he has already defeated guys like Kafelnikov, Ferrero, Guga and other top 5 players, thing that your ''favorite'' Berlocq probably can't do. But that's your opinion, and I have to let you give it.

better in which sense?

better in not giving a shit about the career and shpping his ass around the world playing in random micky-mouse tournaments and challengers?

You guys don't know anything about Saretta. He is a great guy, he has attitude, he is not a Davydenko who have never gave a smile to his fans. Yes, he have some trouble to be focus, but this doesn't makes him a bad player, and he always has some magic to show us. Saretta will always be one of the top icons to we brasilian. Of course there are people who don't gave the true value to him, like GlennMirnyi. Just to remember, he gave his heart against Vinciguerra in Davis Cup last year. Just an example...

but that doesnt make him better than Mirnyi or any other player with bigger achievements

only the court tells who's a better player

What do I care? You can't diss Mirnyi, because you're talking about a constant top 50 guy that was 18 in the world and DOESN'T PLAY CHALLENGERS, like some Sarjetta joker.

The only thing Sarjetta got bigger than him is that ego. And don't count him as an icon to Brazilians, because for Brazilians that care about the sport, he's just another joker that thinks he's better than everybody and today can't get even to some challenger SF. Talk about ruining a carreer.

Gave his heart against Vinciguerra... big deal. Should have won in 3, but what do you expect from someone that can't defeat Cuevas? Nothing. Got his place without deserving, only because he's a protegée of the DC captain. Then got spanked by a guy that must have won like 4 matches on clay his whole life.

Get a clue and stop talking about this clown as if he were some Brazilian hero.

It´s really fustrating watching him play, he is always with a wrong mood, complaining, with his head low... and to think he´s seen as brazilian hero is really a joke..... :p :p

You forgot his positive h2h with Maximilian Abel. It's the only Saretta match I can remember, from Hamburg Masters Series. But it was a hurting loss for me, because Abel is more talented. :(

But still, I care more about Saretta than about the Pope. :yeah: Good luck to him.

I think that VaiBrasil is very arrogant but you can't say "what do you expect from someone that can't defeat Cuevas? Nothing" Because Cuevas is not only a tennis player but also a person and you MUST respect him you can't say that imagine if you were a professional tennis player but you spend all your life playing futures and someone says "What do you expecto from someone that can't defeat GlennMirnyi" How would you feel?
I think that you all should be more carefull with what you say.

Good question. As there is an ATP event, maybe someone can qualify and go to the semis, then get the SE, it's a bigger tournament.

(1)Fabio Fognini (ITA) d. Andre Miele (BRA) 6-4 6-4

(8)Horacio Zeballos (ARG) d. Gustavo Marcaccio (ARG) 3-6 6-2 6-2

Gustavo lost again with Horacio.... but at least he won the first set..... :)
He is having bad luck with the qualy draws, it should be more easy for him to play against a brazilian WC....

I cant believe Fabio Fognini is still playing challenger qualies, he deserved a main draw WC... He can play good matches against all challengers players on clay ...

Thales Turini???? :wavey: (and Fognini not ..... :fiery:) is a mediocre "futures qualy" player , and with the new rule "no win = no point/s" he wont take anything from this tournament......

Caio_Brasil
02-04-2007, 01:45 AM
First of all, WC in Brasil has to go to a Brasilian... Zabaleta had already taken one and that's it... Fognini doesn't deserve WC in Brasil... and giving a WC to Turini is a way of giving him some experience...

maybe a quali WC would be enough, you're right

but about Zabaleta (and your suggestion about Fognini) receiving a WC... I just ask you: would you like Saretta receiving a WC at an Argentinian challenger?

Zabaleta is a tennis latinamerican idol, Saretta...... not much like Zabaleta but I dont have problems receiving Saretta in the Buenos Aires challenger, he is a good player and he have chances to win in first round....

Last year we receive Luka Belic (CRO) (not a bad player, he lose 3set with Pashanski), i prefer Saretta than Belic....
Buenos Aires ch 2006 MDS http://www.atptennis.com/5/en/vault/draws.asp?TournamentID=722&TournamentYear=2006

The fair "MDraw WC player" should have chances to win a 1st round against a normal player, depending of the tournament... and if is possible to be popular....
