I won't post the stats here because I'm sure if you're interested you'll go take a look but it just REALLY pisses me off when someone plays an awesome match but still loses  .

Alex lost his serve only once in that 2nd set and it was the only time he was down 0-40, he came back to 30-40 but DF to give Max the break  .

I'm so impressed with Alex's stats in the match. I just wish the result was switched or he had gone to another TB to get the 2nd set.

Still a great job to Alex!! :D

Go Raemon! He's winning 91% of the points on his first serve...

Sjengster

Interesting, Stosur out-aced Davenport by a ratio of 2-1... but also had 6 doubles, 46% first serves and won only three games.

I like Sluiter, but I've realised that if he wins Grosjean will avoid playing a fellow French nemesis for the second time in a row - Santoro is 8-2 against him, Clement is something like 5 or 6-2. Pity, it's always funny to watch them beat him at his own game.

Not the best joke Fin, that's pretty cruel when your favourite player's a game from defeat. 40-15... congrats Sluiter! Now make it two French in a row against Grosjean, please.

Mardy.... 3/15 on break points? :o

Calleri and Soderling were nearly as bad on their breakpoints, but Calleri came back from a break down to win the last four games with a torrent of aces, 19 in total and 1 on a second serve.

Nope, Sky Sports here in the UK - it's very good coverage, six hours of live interactive day matches (choice of two or three courts), then highlights of the night session the following afternoon. Some of the commentators involved could be better, but I'm not going to bite the hand that feeds me.

WOW you're lucky!!! Here, TSN and RDS take their coverage from ESPN, and they show just one or 2 matches per day, so we don't have a lot of coverage in one year... only the TMS and the GS!

Wow, that was quick - Pavel had those three chances at 1-1, and since then hasn't won another game, it can't be coincidence.

You're right Billabong, it's probably the best tennis coverage in the world, which is why I get irritated when some people (not naming names here, naturally) start whining about the excessive coverage of Henman's matches. At least on Sky you have another option, sometimes two!

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 11:56 PM
You have to say, given how impressive Roddick evidently was today from the stats and how much Safin is struggling against the likes of Hernych (he was sloppy in the first set and wasted 4 breakpoints early on), that Safin-Roddick encounter really might not be such a great one after all. If Safin does win it, he needs to step it up big time in the next round.

The Sjengman had a breakpoint! Saved by Escude, but still a good start.

Deboogle!.

in the second set he had 17 winners and 1 error :)

Go Sjeng!

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 11:58 PM
That's Spadea's first win over Saretta, he was 0-3 including a first round loss at the US Open last year. Good to see he's defended some of his points from last year's IW, although hopefully it won't last in the next round whoever he plays...

Tennis Fool
03-14-2004, 11:59 PM
Sjengster, if you know anything about Marat, you know never to judge the next match by the one just played.

He's just got bored and is going through a Hingis/Clijsters like zzzzz.

Sjengster
03-14-2004, 11:59 PM
So I heard bunk, it's worrying (for me that is...). Go Sjengster, an early break! Albeit on a double from Escude, who's already served two in his opening service game. LOL, I can see why you hope Schalken gets through to play Roddick given the ease of their last few matches.

Sjengster
03-15-2004, 12:01 AM
Oh yes TF, I'm certainly aware of Safin's sleepy early round performances, but that's why I'm worried that Roddick would be too early in the tournament for him - it's a major step up in quality in just one round, and it is in America after all.

Wa-hey, Escude has 15-40 to break back, and Schalken returned the double fault favour. Honestly!

Neely
03-15-2004, 12:01 AM

Sjengster

Ah. Oh well, good to hear. I like both these players, but Escude absolutely thrashed Schalken in the same round of IW two years ago 3 and 0 (when Schalken's confidence was very low), so I'm hoping for revenge. He's lost some heartbreakers to Escude, e.g. 8-6 in the fifth in a DC rubber back in 2001 that lasted 4 hours 44 minutes.

03-15-2004, 12:15 AM
9, and on all surfaces (OK, not carpet but he has won on indoor hard), as well as being only the second player after Agassi to have won titles on all five continents.

I remember that match, but I was only vaguely following tennis back then and while I noticed the scoreline I didn't care much who won. Looking back, when you consider the lack of serve he has compared to the Scud it was an amazing effort to push him for over five hours, Philippoussis had to serve to stay in the match fifteen times before breaking at 18-18... from 98 to 2000, Schalken lost at Wimbledon 8-6 in the fifth to Gambill, 13-11 in the fifth to Courier and 20-18 in the fifth to Philippoussis. Thank goodness that was the same Slam where he finally made it past the third round.

Sjengster
03-15-2004, 12:17 AM
You're right Fedex, he's raised it to 50% but it's still quite poor for him. LOL, during the match with Gonzalez at the US Open one of the commentators noted that his percentage had dropped to 68 in the third set and observed, "He's slipping a little."

Let me just butt in here and gives props to Tournament Director Charlie Pasarell who led a remembrance ceremony for those who lost their lives in Madrid on Thursday. That was a terrific gesture and for once, the anti-US whiners around these parts can't complain about how jingoistic or nationalistic a US tennis tournament is. :yeah:  :bigclap:

Yeah yeah how does one gesture overcome the consistent jingoism that many major US tournaments have shown previously and will continue to do so?

It was a fine gesture by Passarell for sure, but then again that stuff only happens when a tragedy happens in a western democracy and not anywhere else which has to live with these tragedies on a regular basis.
