There are a number of people missing from the AO Qualies list (Canas, Coria (ok so he's in the Alt list) Guzman, Zabaleta etc)... maybe they are thinking of Challengers instead? Less travel expenses, more chance of getting climbing points?? I'm just thinking out loud...

I heard him saying that he was going to go to Australia. I don't how it works for Gand Slams but if it's as in the common tournaments, maybe he haven't "checked into" (?) the AO quallies yet.

He wasn't on the list for the qualies when they should have committed by yesterday.

Unless they are not going or it was a dumb mistake that they forgot and would now have to ask for a WC to play qualies.

This is very strange and disappointing, I was looking forward to seeing Canas back in slam action. It shouldn't be too hard to remember to enter, it's just a few clicks on the computer.

I was looking forward to welcoming him back personally and I hope it might be a mistake on the Entry List, though I doubt it.

Cañas will play so the qualy of OA.

If you search the article with the Clarin (OLE is property of Clarin Group :p ) search engine you can find it as if it was online today in OLE.
But when you click in the link http://old.ole.clarin.com/notas/2006/12/30/01336494.html there´s an error

The link of the confirmation for Cañas into qualy OA.

Thanks for that!! :D

I´m not sure about it because it´s not  a quote.... and is strange not seeing his name in the list.
But I hope he is able to play the qualy, win matches and earn points :bounce:

Willy will skip the AO in order to prepare for the Davis Cup:

http://www.ole.com.ar/notas/2007/01/08/01341020.html

at last moment Willy decided to skip the Australian Open, where he have to play the qualy. However, he will take some days of rest, probably in Uruguay, and will begin a tour in indoor hard courts, thinking about the Davis Cup series against Austria, in February in Linz.
First, he will be in the Heilbronn Challenger, Germany (100,000 dollars), and then in Croatia in the Zagreb ATP, (there will be Ljubicic and Murray, among others), one week before the Davis Cup tie. There, he hopes a wild-card to play his first ATP tournament since he return to the courts.

It's a pity he won't be in the AO

But it's his decision and i guess that's what it's best for him :)

disssapointing decision, he played pretty well at the open in the past. He couldve got some vital ranking points under his belt.
