The 2006 Tennis Tipping Match of the Year

This poll is to determine who was the best TT match in 2006.

The poll can only have 10 options, so we (Labamba and I) had to nominate nine matches for this award. If your pick is not included, please vote for the [Other] option and tell us why you believe this match should win.

Here are the nominees:

alansk def. scythe19pro (Miami SF)

classic match, decided by QF match Ferrer vs Roddick. Ferrer's pick gave alansk a spot in the final. scythe19pro wasn't able to reach her second consecutive final (lost to robrulz in IW final).A_Skywalker def. alansk (Rome QF)

a win would have given alansk the world #1 spot. Amazing comeback by Ancic against Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo and Gonzalez win over Berdych didn't let it happen.
vamos israel def. Shotgun Blues (Rome final)

one of the most exciting finals of the year. Both players had Nadal to beat Federer in the final match, so the decision came to scores prediction. vamos israel saved two mps when Nadal saved 2 mps serving 4-5 in fifth set.
Labamba/Smasher def. Shotgun Blues/keqtqiadv (World Team Cup Round 3 - doubles match)

Brazil and Finland were leading the Red group and Round 3 tie would decide the finalist team. After singles, teams were tied 1:1. In doubles, both pairs had perfect scores, and a Germany 7/6 win was enough to Brazil. Argentina won second set 7/6 and Finland qualified to WTC finals.
keqtqiadv def. its.like.that (Roland Garros R16)

after R16 day one, its.like.that was leading by 2. keqtqiadv took many risks in day two and tied the match, which would be decided by Monfils vs Blake, postponed to the day after, 1 all in sets. Monfils won in 5 and keqtqiadv was in RG QF.
CancionAnimal/scarecrows def. Labamba/GeorgeWHitler (Stuttgart doubles final)

scarecrows was the only one among the finalists who picked Ferrer to beat Acasuso. The Argentine was leading 4th set 5-1, and game by game, Labamba/GeorgeWHitler saw their title fading away. Ferrer came back, won 4th and 5th sets and CancionAnimal (singles runner-up) and scarecrows were Stuttgart champions.
GustavoM_Fan def. alansk (US Open final)

GustavoM_Fan won his 5th consecutive match on TB and won his second Grand Slam tournament in the year (Wimbledon doubles champion with kindablue).
A_Skywalker def. Labamba (Tennis Masters Cup Round 2)

both players had lost their Round 1 matches and needed to win this match. Labamba was 0-3 in his head-to-head against Skywalker, and was really close to his first win over the Bulgarian. Nalbandian served for the match on second set, but couldn't close it. Ljubicic won second and third sets, keeping Skywalker's hopes in TMC alive.
alansk def. scythe19pro (Tennis Masters Cup Round 3)

scythe19pro got an early lead. alansk tried the risk of picking Nalbandian over Roddick. If the American had won, coreyschucky would have qualified to SF. The Argentine won that match and gave the SF spot to alansk, who would finish as the Tennis Masters Cup champion.

I voted for A_Skywalker def. alansk (Rome QF)

That was an absolute cracker, amazing match that Alan should have won (RRH :o ) and become the new #1

honorary mention also to the Stuttgart doubles final

alansk def scythe19pro (Miami) as it was a great match, both players had the chance to change their picks but refused. It generated a lot of excitement beforehand and it was probably the first point where TT turned into a chat thread and became more than a game.

My favourite was Melvins/Sylvester vs Labamba/Smasher in Wimbledon QF with me and Melvins winning the TB even though melvins picked Mirnyi, while everybody else picked correctly Bjorkman.

Our Wimbledon SF was a classic too with us needing Stepanek and he fails to serve for the match and ends up losing in a close 5th set.

I really can't vote in this award :( I don't remember individual matches long after the tournaments have finished so I would have any clue what was so good about these ones

I'm in 2 of those options of the poll? But damn, I lost both matches :tape:, Alan was too good :worship:

Murilo def. Jim qualifies for the match of the year I think :smoke: What a comeback that was with Murilo relying only on the underdogs to get to RG QF :worship:

I also remember Hristo def. Alan Rome QF match :worship: Awesome too

 :D

Just looked back at the Murilo vs Jim match and yeah that looks like a good 'un. Especially considering Jim's comment after day 1...

bad luck son.

but don't be too hard on yourself, no one ever really gave you much of a chance against me anyways.

:hatoff:

Nice when he has to eat humble pie

OK, I know this poll is finished and everything but how did you forget to include in the poll the semifinal in Helsinki between Gany Star and Germanstar?

After a hard battle, involving double personality, Germanstar managed to defeat his nemesis Gany Star with the tight score of 3-2

very bad people, very bad

the drama of this match goes outside the frontiers of the sport. it's a shame that we are not supposed to enjoy the possible re-match, where Gany Star can raise from the dead and take his revenge with unexpected and just shocking for Germanstar TB1 pick!
eeh, this could be some CLASH... http://yelims5.free.fr/Sport/Cheval.gif
