Henman downs Scud

Tim Henman won his exhibition match with Mark Philippoussis in London on Tuesday and afterwards says he is looking forward to playing a full schedule in 2007.

Henman beat the big-serving Australian 7-6 6-4 at the Royal Albert Hall, a match which raised funds for Henman’s charity, Kids at Heart.

“I felt really good out there and, most importantly, no pain in the knee which had been a problem six weeks ago,” said Henman.

“The standard of tennis out there was high. I've been practising a lot and been working very hard.”

Henman also reiterated his intention to play a full schedule of events in 2007, starting at the Australian Open.

“I have played around 20 events this year. Add another couple, and if you are playing well and winning that's plenty of tennis.

“My health is the issue. As you get older, physically it gets harder and harder.

“But I feel the way I played in the last six or seven weeks of the season was a big positive for me.

“I had a lot of good individual matches with wins over players like Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin, and that is encouraging.

“Over the year, I've felt I didn't do a lot - but I still managed to finish 39. If I could pick three or four matches and turn the defeats into victories I could well have been around 25.

“The level of tennis I played in individual matches was inside top-20 level. But the consistency wasn't there, and that's something I need to work on.”

The British No.2 also said that when he does eventually hang up his racket, he would like to use his knowledge and experience to help British youngsters in the game.

“Working with some of the younger players takes travel out of the equation - which would be something positive for me - although I hope it's a little way off yet.”

Shame this match wasn't on television :o
Even though it's only an exhibition, a good win for Tim :yeah:
Hopefully both players can push back up the rankings, both players still have plenty of quality tennis left and seem to be getting over their injury problems :) (Maybe Henman moreso.....)

I don't think anyone is taking the result seriously, but I think this match in particular shows that both players are getting over their injury problems, which is far more important that the result of the match.
