Yes, he can! He's excellent performance over the
last 4 years, I'm confident that he can defend it
this year.

I really hope he'll defend his title, but if he won't then I hope it wont be Roger who'll win it, coz that would make things really boring

Looking at his form so far this year, he might not defend his title, especially with Coria and Federer looking to win their first FOs. But who knows? Maybe once the clay season has kicked off into high gear, he may regain his form.

i don't think so, but then he may surprise me...

He played his first match on clay of the year today...
and he made me not to forget 1 thing:
He is a clay-king.

He doens't play the court,
he owns it.

He's -without a doubt- the best claycourt-player at the moment.
He was born for RG,
he plays the RG-matches with whole his heart,

He deserves to win again,
and he will.

Vamos Juanqui!!!
We believe in you. (at least; I do :D )

Martin Verkerk will win it this year... :)

he might not defend his title, looking at the DC ESP-NL, where he almost lost to a very good Martin Verkerk!

Ferrero, who last year fell in the final and the previous two in the semifinals, said he never had doubts that he could win this tournament one day. "Now I think that I will win it again," he said.
If he loses, it won't be because of his motivation! :D
The past 4 years he'ss always been in the semifinals, that means with the best four. 4 years on row. That's not a coincidence. Now that he got the title, I think his confidence is even bigger then the other years. I'm sure he can do it again. I give him 80% chance. Maybe 90%.

carole

me neither
ofcours players like coria and moya,... are dangerous, but can they really stop him?
I hope "no" and i think it will be "no"

A very good Martin Verkerk beat Moya and Coria last year. Give Verkerk so credit.

I'm sorry,
but when Ferrero is playing good, normal, Verkerk has about 'no' chances :s
the RG final last year was the most one-sided RG final since Bjorn Borg :s

My money is on Guille Coria this year!

That's my point, that he won last year not because Verkerk is a fluke but because Ferrero is too good. Verkerk is good enough to beat Moya and Coria but has no chance at Ferrero.

Although I should take note at that DC match and Ferrero's recent form. He might have a tougher time to defend this year. But giving him the edge for having the experience of winning the big one, he's still my top choice to win this year, follow not far by Coria.

well, at the moment I think that Ferrero has some troubles. But lets see how he's starting the Masters on clay.

If he can't pull out big matches at the Masters/next tournaments (or win titles), I see him unlikely to defend his title because losing to Verdasco 6-2 6-1 can't be normal.

Or do you think was saving energy for Monaco? I'm not sure about it...

lalaland

Alright, 2 horrible losses in 2 of his favorite tournament, I'm convinced. It would be tough for him to defend RG.

there is some strong competition, but ferrero is the clay court king no matter what

I would have him down as a finalist, but am interested to see how he performs in Gstaad before I can say if he can defend RG title.

no he can't... the 2004 winner will be Guillermo Coria... he's the best player on clay court.

Ferrero is going to win his second Roland Garros title this year, no doubt!

I'm a bit concerned about Ferrero's fitness, so that may prevent him. But if he is fit, i'm sure he will reach the final...at least.

I think he can, but I don't think he will
I give Guillermo Coria good chances this year
and I hope for Carlos Moya, if he's in good shape he can go very far

FERRERO IS ALWAYS CANDIDATE IN CLAY TOURNAMENTS AND MORE IF IT IS RG AND HE IS DEFENDING THE TITLE, BUT I DONT THINK HIS PHISYCAL FORM WOULD LET HIM PLAY 7 MATCHES TO 5 SETS AND WIN.
MY PREDICTION IS: 3RD/4TH ROUND.

Unfortunately, it's still uncertain whether he will even play. An article in Marca tonight mentions that he's not very well-prepared, but he's going to go to RG and see how it goes.

I'm sure I just read sth in a Spanish paper that Juanqui's ribs are bothering him again... so we'll see... I think he s just not play RG and recuperate -- truly recuperate and prepare for the grass season, starting w Halle. Who knows, he may be able to come back stronger than ever towards summer, just in time for USO and DC SF!

He must be torn between wanting to play and knowing that it could do further damage. Must be a very hard decision to make. I wish he could decide soon, I'd love Moya to be seeded 4th, which could happen if he pulled out before the draw. I guess JC will need to leave it as long as possible though....

well.... I dont think Ferrero will defend his title...
I'm sorry!
he's a great player and I have a lot of respect for him, but I think he isnt fit enough. And he hasn't the right form I think.
I think Coria will win...
But yeah...Roger can beat him also, so why not someone else?!
We will see it!
Good luck to Roger!

Yea, and it's especially tough for a slam, considering the draw is made on Friday but he might not have to play for another 4 days or so which could make a huge difference for an injury like that. Poor guy, it's really just not his year :(

Don't think he will pull out before the draw. His trainer said they're planning to fly to Paris this Saturday.

Ferrero at Roland Garrosvote!
Ferrerro 'rested' from Rome and Hamburg clay court Masters. It seems he had some kind of chicken pox. This is the only Slam he has a chance of winning and he is in the draw as no.4 seed.

JC can win the Open. JC is very young and will have plenty of years to win this title again and again. Just a real  that his year has started so badly.
