Week 1, Sao Paulo: downgraded from $100K+H to $50K+H.

Hope the field is not much affected by this decrease in the prize money.

Week 4, Durban: new event

Interesting to have a big challenger event in South Africa, I wonder if Mr. Disney has anything to do with it.

Week 5, Andrezieux & Florianapolis: cancelled (or moved)

AFAIK Florianopolis hasn't been cancelled, but I'm not sure of the date.

Yeah, that's why I wrote that it might be moved in parenthesis. It's hard when the full calendar is not available ;)

And Sao Paulo will be effected, but on the other hand not many European players go there anyway. The South American events have a pretty solid home base, so it will not be a weak event.

South Africa has been on the agenda for a while, as far as I know. It deserves an event, but it's location is just horrible. Always jetlags and what not.

Well it's not that far away from Australia so the chosen date (second week of the Australian Open) is good actually. Whoever loses in the qualies or first week of the AO will be able to play, it's just a matter of willing to make a stop in South Africa before heading back to Europe or America or not, and of course dealing with the jet lags. The time zone is the same as Europe and the climatic conditions are very similar to Australia's during that time of the year.

I don't remember any mention of de Villiers being involved. The organizers are hoping the tournament will be promoted to the ATP-level in a few years.

I have updated the first couple of posts with Week 30's results. :D

Takao Suzuki and Yeu-Tzuoo Wang took their second singles titles of the year. Dorsch, Isner, Jones and Sluiter got their names added to the list.

Marc Lopez and the Ratiwatana twins are now ahead of the rest of the field on doubles titles, as they took their 4th of the year (in the case of the Ratiwatanas, all of them were with each other - Lopez won his first with Ventura, having won before with Vagnozzi, Dabul and Granollers-Pujol).
Bopanna and Ventura also got their 3rd, so the gap to the leaders wasn't largened. Bopanna's title with Qureshi is the second for them, and in consecutive weeks. Bopanna had also won a title last month with Feeney. As for Ventura, he had won on the exact same weeks as Bopanna (27, 29 and now 30) with different partners; Vicente, Poch-Grandin and now Lopez.
Colangelo, Evans, Qureshi and Stakhovsky got their second titles.
The Russian pair of Krasnoroutsky and Kudryavtsev finally got a title - Kudryavtsev on his 4th final, and Krasnoroutsky on his 2nd (his previous had been one of Kudryavtsev's aswell).

Ledovskikh got his second final loss, and on the week after the first nonetheless. Both of them were at home soil. Heartbreaking for the Russian. Julio Silva also got his second lost final of the year.
Golubev, Lu, Qureshi and Wilson lost their first final of the year in Challengers. None of them has titles.

Cipolla and Goodall lost their second doubles finals of the year. All the other 10 finalists had their first final loss.

Concerning Wooden Spoons, Jan Mertl became the 7th member of the not-so-flattering group of people who have a couple of spoons. :p All the others (Lindahl, Feeney, Stolt, Jeanpierre, Kravchuk) had their first.

~ Vanek got his first challenger title of the year in his 3rd final. Istomin and Schukin both got their 2nd titles, Istomin's being on consecutive weeks.

~ The doubles pair of Yuri Schukin and Sebastian Decoud got their second title in a row. They had also won the title on Week 33 at Graz.

~ Yuri Schukin won both titles at Geneva, being the 5th player this year who managed to do so. Previous ones were: Nathan Healey at Burnie (Week 6), Ernests Gulbis at Sarajevo (Week 11), Mischa Zverev at Karlsruhe (Week 22), Rohan Bopanna at Dublin (Week 27).

~ Frederico Gil lost his 4th doubles final out of 4.

I'm getting sick and tired of all kinds of problems appearing whenever I spend hours updating the first two posts. It's happened around 5 times these weeks.

I think my internet is too slow for such a long post. Even on a much faster connection (my weekend home one) it takes ages to save, on this college one it probably takes too long and the server rejects it.

TankingTheSet
10-06-2007, 01:45 AM
It may be related to intermittent problems with MTF, sometimes MTF doesn't respond and the post is lost.

When you are putting a lot of time into creating/editing a post always edit the text file with Notepad or another editor, save it if you want, or copy and paste it into notepad before posting. When preparing and updating something complex in an MTF post I always use a seperate text file on my computer, it's the only safe way.

CooCooCachoo
10-07-2007, 07:16 PM
I notice that using Firefox prevents these problems from occurring (or if the server doesn't respond, you can at least retrieve everything you typed), whereas Internet Explorer just is quite uncooperative.
