Ljubicic to play limited schedule next year, likely no DC in 2008

according to an interview he gave for sportnet.hr, he will play only 5-6 tournaments after wimbledon - depending on his results in the first half of the season. 2007 will also likely be his last season playing Davis Cup.

His first tournament in 2007 will be Doha (i guess he's not gonna defend his title in india)

So it sounds like he is eyeing retirement? A shame since he has really just reached his potential the past couple of years.

 He's a day younger than me. Perhaps he's considering leaving the tour to start a family.

he's not considering retirement at all, he just wants to have a more balanced schedule so that he doesn't get exhausted

in an interview a few days ago he said he has 5-6 years left

Well...Hewitt did that and look where he is these days...limited schedules are usually bad news when you normally play 25+ tournies.

It is good that he isn't playing so many optionals...he was doing well in them and not doing a huge amount in the bigger tournies.

Strange he would reduce his schedule after Wimbledon given his best surface is indoors and the majority of that season occurs after the US Open. I would have thought he'd prefer to go light on the clay and the grass, where his results have rarely been impressive and play more on the fast and/or indoor surfaces.

I don't suppose I'll be seeing him at Nottingham in 2007 then :( :sobbing:

He has already done that this past semester.

It's a smart decision IMO, he's not 20 years old anymore and it's better to focus on the big ones.

Well that makes sense. It is a shame that he will not be playing DC in 2008 though. But since he puts so much into DC, I imagine that it can be something that leads to exhaustion.

he said that the tournament he will skip are probably the u.s. tms events. he wants to get as many points out of the carpet season as possible (unlike this year)

He said he wants to concentrate mainly on the indoor events, and that wants to win more titles in the future.

That's a great decision. He never did particulary well in these US tournaments,so it's better to tako a rest and prepare for the indoor season, than playing this events.

Which US TMS series will he skip? Surely not Indian Wells and Miami. I'm guessing Cincy and Canada right?

Actually this is not true,99% that he will play Cincy and Canada. He'll play all TMS.Just he'll not play that many small tourneys. He will probably play something like Federer.

its not like he wins almost every tournament he plays, like federer and nadal do, so if he wants to keep his ranking up where it is at the moment he should play more tournaments.

situation is like this...
ljubicic is older than years in passport or ID card..becouse of juniors day..
so he will finish with tennis early on the paper..if you understand:D

Ivan should just keep Zagreb on his schedule and forget the rest. That way he's guaranteed one title win a year and then he can fluke his way into the top ten year after year.
