Nadal keen to play in Davis Cup

Nadal will not face Federer in February
Rafael Nadal has committed to playing in Spain's Davis Cup match against Switzerland next February.
Reports suggested the world number two may miss the first round tie in Geneva.

But Nadal said he was keen to play, adding: "It's going to be a difficult - Switzerland have a good team - but we will do our best."

Switzerland's world number one Roger Federer, who trails Nadal 6-2 in their head-to-head encounters, will not be playing in the match.

In recent years, Federer has allowed room in his schedule for one Davis Cup series per season and has twice missed the first round.

The hosts will be represented by Stanislas Wawrinka, Marco Chiudinelli, Yves Allegro, and Michael Lammer in the tie against the Spaniards.

Spain have a stronger team on paper, but Nadal said: "Every time you play away it is a lot more difficult than playing at home."

This is not a big surprise, as far as I know Rafa has never missed a Davis Cup tie when he is healthy.

I don't think he has, he's made it pretty clear that Davis Cup is a priority for him. But that one comment was mistranslated and now everyone thinks he said he wasn't sure if he'd play.

Good, it's always nice to know Spain doesn't have the call the B-squad, even though some countries would love to have their lesser players.

We knew this all along, that was the reason Federer pulled out.

lammer?!?

I don't think so!

It'll be bastl or bohli but I doubt lammer will be part of the team, especially on a fast surface!
