After beating Ivan ljubicic today, Roger Federer has improved his record in Round Robin matches to 15-0. Starting in 2002, here are the matches he has played:

Roger Federer (SUI) d. Jiri Novak (CZE) 6-0 4-6 6-2
Roger Federer (SUI) d. (ALT)Thomas Johansson (SWE) 6-3 7-5 [Johansson replaces Agassi]

2003:
(3)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (5)Andre Agassi (USA) 6-7(3) 6-3 7-6(7)
(3)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (8)David Nalbandian (ARG) 6-3 6-0
(3)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (2)Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) 6-3 6-1

2004:
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (8)Gaston Gaudio (ARG) 6-1 7-6(4)
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (3)Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) 6-3 6-4
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (5)Carlos Moya (ESP) 6-3 3-6 6-3

2005:
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (8)David Nalbandian (ARG) 6-3 2-6 6-4
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (6)Ivan Ljubicic (CRO) 6-3 2-6 7-6(4)
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (4)Guillermo Coria (ARG) 6-0 1-6 6-2

2006:
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (7)David Nalbandian (ARG) 3-6 6-1 6-1
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (5)Andy Roddick (USA) 4-6 7-6(8) 6-4
(1)Roger Federer (SUI) d. (4) Ivan Ljubicic (CRO) 7-6 6-4

Perhaps this is not a high profile record, but to win 15 big matches against quality opponents is imo a remarkable achievement.

More pertinently, 8 three-setters in 15 matches played and 5 matchpoints saved in total (3 against Roddick, 2 against Agassi in Houston back in 2003) - so it's not a record that's come easily.

Yeah he's quite goed ;)
I count, 3 bagels 4 breadsticks in round robin and remember the double bagel against gaudio in the semis last year. Sometimes it seems it doesn't matter how good his oppenent is playing (exept for Nadal)

And two points away from defeat against Ljubicic last year.
It was 5:6 (15-30) in the 3rd.

win some, lose some.
He was two points away from defeat, two points away from victory (final), he was 1 point away (three times) from possibly not even going to the semis this year, and maybe he will win the final this year after being two points away from defeat, comes with the territory.

The next best record after this, I think, is Lendl at 20-3 (he played the YEC about a dozen times, but there were several years in the middle where it was a simple elimination format starting at the QF stage). From 1986-1991 he was 16-2 in RR matches, but guess who was responsible for one of those 2 losses? Federer's countryman and best mate (j/k) Jakob Hlasek....

Federer lost only twice overall. Last year to Nalbandian in the final and in 2002 to Hewitt in the semis.
Roger has an overall TMC record of 20-2.

It is a very impressive record. Only the cream of the crop makes it to this exclusive party. There is not just ranking points, there is pride and a lot of money at stake. To go undefeated against the best, that about gives the (is it needed?) confirmation of his position at the top of the game.

Yes and the two losses he had went right down to the wire- 5-7 in the final set against Hewitt in 2002 and 6-7 in the final set against Nalbandian last year.

No. I specified Shanghai not TMS Finals in general. The details of Federer's previous TMS's have been given, so I don't need to repeat. :)

:rolls:

2 more years, and that guy will finally take his rightful place in tennis history (in everybody's mind). As, most certainly, not the GOAT.
