again it's going to hinge on Nadal's opponent. Nadal is playing his usual 5-10 feet behind the baseline. Davydenko however is playing pretty close to the baseline n taking a lot of shots early and running Nadal around as well as wrong footing him.

really the question is can Davydenko keep this up for long enough? I am going to say yes. Davydenko leads 3/4 service return stats on the ATP tour and on the (last break points won) he's 2nd.

Some guy is better from the baseline than Rafa. Would you believe that? Davy just plays smarter, he knows how to catch Rafa wrong footed etc.

actually Davydenko is showing another way of playing Nadal beside hitting him off the court. he's playing him close to the baseline and placing shots with surgical precision unlike Blake who was hitting Nadal off the court. I'm really admiring Nikolai's shot placement today - my only concern would be if he can keep this up. against James, he was playing similarly and then somehow it all went wrong probably because James started to really hit some stunning shots. Nadal however is NOT a shotmaker and Nikolai isn't going to be rushed as much. no one should estimate what Nadal brings to the table though - a rapid dog would struggle to match Nadal for tenacity and sheer madness of will in chasing shots down.
