Indeed

Superb play by JB in the last game. Brilliant shots. Anyway, the one who's less tired has won

Another interesting match :bounce:
 James finally strong
Davydenko to score 6:2, 3:1 (40-30) played like a cranky.

Nice comeback win by Blake. Now, if Nadal beats Robredo, Blake is assured of first place in the Gold Group, and (likely) not having to play Federer in the semifinals.

Blake showed real courage to stay in a match that he was obviously losing. He turned it around and won. Well done! :)

and now if Nadal loses today, he can't get to the semis, but it would take a miracle from Robredo to beat Rafa

I don't think that's true. If Robredo beats Nadal, Blake beats Robredo, and Nadal beats Davydenko, then Dabydenko, Nadal, and Robredo would each be 1-2, and Nadal could advance based upon tiebreakers.

I must say, I'm quite impressed. It shouldn't have been shocking though, given Blake's head-to-head against these guys; but still, very impressive fight and comeback. Go Blake!

Is that right? If he loses 0-2 to Robredo, Robredo beats Nadal, and Davydenko beats Nadal 2-0, Davydenko Robredo and Blake have 2 wins each but Davy and Robredo are +2 in sets while James is only +1.

However, all three results seem rather unlikely...

Kolya still hasn't found his Paris form yet. Blake missed a lot of 1st serves and hit many UEs to go 6-2 4-2 down. But credit to him, he played extremely well to win 7 out of the next 8 games.

I think that pretty much decides the group. I can't see Davydenko's game standing up against Nadal's game.

That's my boi

I tell ya - James was down & looking defeated but he fought so well. His serve in that first set was brutal. I pray this is his "off" match for the tourney.

Unless things turn strange, I expect Fed & Roddick to advance on one end & Blake & Nadal on the other side. That would mean a Blake/Roddick semi & a Fed/Nadal semi.

Blake hung in there, and credit to him for that BUT Davydenko blew this big time, very very poor from him.

It does offer me some optimism though if Davydenko is going to choke this bad (and it was a choke, Blake did nothing to alter the match) against opponents he has never beaten before - on this evidence, Chela is a must for DC.

HEHE Blake played a bad match and still won it, his returns were the worst from his recent matches(but these 2 in final game where outstanding   ), James was playign strange match, one time conctred three balls later playing like crap, but he won what counts the most and showed that he improve on the mental side, against Nadal and Davy great comebback
(against Nikolay even tougher because he was two game from defeat )

Congrats James !! but I want him to improve and show more his awesome shotmaking abilities )

Davydenko is a choker he don't know how to play with Top players, maybe he has game to beat all lower ranked players but his ranking - no.3 is overrated he is Top10 player right now, but he has neagtive H-T-H with almost entire Top10 , he is sneaking victories when all better players withdraws, or the draw is empty. Credit to him for making it, but he desn't have balls to play with other these better players, even with Robredo on this surface he was struggling

Davydenko is
0-8 vs Federer
0-0 vs Nadal
2-2 vs Ljubicic(0-2 since 2004)
0-4 vs Roddick
3-1 vs Robredo
2-4 vs Fat Dave
0-5 vs James Blake

for me this stats are shocking he has winning record only against Robredo, as for no.3 bloody bad

Well it's good to know that Blake is working on the mental side of his game. That's a big part of being a champion. Normally he would have gotten down on himself and just let it go since it was almost over.

I'm proud of him.

Great fight by Blake :bounce:

I thought he was out of it at 2-6 1-3 and 15-40, with points against him to go down a double break, but he fought hard and hung in there.

For someone who is always criticised for his mental strength, James has shown a lot of it this week.

Hopefully he'll beat Robredo and qualify first. If Nadal is 2nd in the group and manages to beat Fed like he normally does, Blake could possibly be in the final vs Nadal if he wins his semi

This week could really be a watershed for James...after his sorry tanking to Mirnyi at Wimbledon (two sets to one up), it appears that James is starting to fight...coming back from huge deficits against the #2 and #3 players in the world!!! Well done, James:)

He has yet to win a five set match I believe, but will do so next year I predict.

By the way, that breakdown of the head to head record of Davy against the top ten is shocking and cringe worthy!!! More fuel for the fire for those who argue that Federer has no real competition...and who can blame them...

I would like to remind that James won a tie-break in New York against #1 Federer 11-9... Then FedEx has won 11 consecutives tie-breaks, which is probably one of the best (this type) achievements in tennis history.

Hmm, Nadal could be the winner in Shanghai, I mean, lets say he beats Davydenko, which I honestly think he will, next up is Fed. That'll be easy :).

After Fed, lets say Blake beat Roddick (could happen). Nadal Blake final. Nadal was lacking confidence against Blake, his win against Roger would definetly get his confidence back. Although James would be tough, once we get to a fith set, it's over for James :).

7. Nikolay, why do you make people’s eyes glaze over? Maybe something just gets lost in translation. Making his acceptance speech in Paris, Davydenko lightheartedly began with, “I don’t speak French – I just started English.” But thanks to the French translator, the crowd heard: “I don’t speak French. I’m going to speak in English.” Hard to tell that the low-profile Russian isn’t above the odd sly remark – before a Davis Cup tie against Croatia last year, he predicted the host nation’s “main advantage will be the line officials.” The following week, he assessed his luck at fishing: “I was there for two hours and caught five, then my girlfriend came and caught three in 10 minutes. That's women for you.”

Glazed eyes is right :haha:

Historically Blake lead Davydenko 4-0 and Federer lead Roddick 11-1 before yesterday. Based on that, the expected winners are Blake and Federer which is what happend. However, the reality is both Roddick and Davydenko lost matches they could have won.

Davydenko even managed to win more points.

Davy played lights out tennis for about a set and a half.. I kept wondering what could James do?
Put more air on the ball, slice, come to net?
If i had known the head to head i wouldnt have worried.
Which explains the calmness in whch james acted.
Simply wait for him to go off the boil or he was just too good today!
Davy was pulling shots out of his anus in that first set!!!!
Well done James!

I for one enjoyed this match, especially because James won. I think it was highly competitive and a deserved win for James who didn't give up even though he was down a set and a break. I hope he displays this same tenacity and fighting will in his SF match, no matter his opponent.
