Davydenko vs Nadal

Wow! A very interesting matchup here which has never been played before and no one is talking. Davydenko is the kind of player who I think could outrally Nadal at his best, handle the topspin quite well, serve well and punish Nadals 2nd serves. Really interesting matchup, Davydenko is very underrated, he gets far in grand slams and only lost in AO and UO when he faced Federer and should have been in RG finals last year if he hadnt faced a doped Argentinian in the SF who somehow still hadloads of energy after having played 10 sets in 2 days. Not to mention Davy is simply redhot at the moment and Nadal is not.

Many peopple are talking about Nalby and Roddick not having faced Nadal at his best, but Davydenko matchup is worth taking a look.

Nadal will have 2 very hard matches now, it is quite possible he will not reach SF at all.

PS: A tip for MTF members who like to bet, Blake is a kiler bet in betfair rright now. 4.3 the money for him as the wiwnner in the gold group. I betted 400 dollars when it was 4.5. Blake is 4-0 up on Davydenko and 2-0 on Nadal.

I am a betting machine. I started in betfair with 100 dolars and now I have 1450 dolars in my account. I have some golden rules, never bet on my favorite teams and players, never bet unless the odds are really amazing (dont bet on regular basis every week, watch the bets and if there is no good one just dont play), always bet against Nadal when he plays against a great server, never bet on Federer.

James Blake is 9-1 against the rest of the group, if he is not the favorite he sure is better than 4.5!

Stats are fine but Blake's head definitely isn't. And he proved it not once and not twice. Still, good luck mate.

Be careful. David Nalbandian lead Roger Federer 5-0 and Lleyton Hewitt lead Roger Federer 7-2. How things have changed.

Possibly the time has come for Rafael and Nikolai. Rafael lost both matches to Blake because he was too defensive and passive. I expect him to attack this time giving Blake no chance.

Certainly I would not like to bet as matches between Rafael, Nikolai and James is too close to pick winners with confidence.

Well, even if things were close between Davydenko, Nadal and Blake it is an amzing chanse to get money.

If Blake, Nadal and Davydenko all are 1/3 to win the group 4.5 is a pretty good bet (personaly I think Blake is 1/2 to win the group).

Beeing a good better is also about finding 1 truly great bet and then risking alot (but never all you have) and if you lose understand that it still was still a great bet and not feel sorry for what you did.

if davydenko's paris form continues and nadal's current indoor and hardcourt form continues, then i can see a win for davydenko. whatever happens i tink the most likely outcome is 3 sets

Hard to say. For me Nadal is the favourite but Davydenko's form is red hot. I pick Nadal in three.

EDIT: watching Robredo winning 2nd set against Nikolay :o, I say Nadal in two.

I think Davydenko will defeat Nadal and ultimately be in the final competing against Federer.

I think next year it shouldn't be surprising to see Davydenko rech the semis of the Australian Open and hopefully the final of the French Open *replacing Nadal in the final therefore hopefully giving Federer a great opportunity to finally clinch the title*.

The odds are looking good to me, specialy with a straight sets victory.

Now all Blake has to do is beat Davydenko, h2h is 4-0 to Blakes favor.....

I am about to become 1400 dollars richer. Thats nice.

Davydenkos a favorite because of the pressure he has with the injury losing to blake and his serve. However if the were both fully fit it would be hard to pick

never bet on Federer.

Why not? For me, that is how the easiest money is made. I often bet on ATP / WTA events, but only when one person is heavily favored.

I may have to put $2,000 on Fed to make $100, but that is still $100 easy dollars. I simply do not bet on Fed when he plays Rafa (or anyone else I think might have a "chance" to beat him. For instance, I am not betting on him against Roddick tomorrow. True, Fed owns Roddick and in most cases it is easy money, but I have a bad feeling about tomorrow).

Trouble is, Fed rarely appears on the board. Vegas, etc. won't take any action because he is such a lock.

I like to put the odds as much in my favor as possible. I don't mind having to put up big $$$$. It is still safer than betting long shots (or even close contests).

Unless Nadal is really off and making a lot of errors, I don't see Davy beating him. He doesn't possess that the same firepower that can slap Nadal around the court. He wants to get into rallies and he won't out-rally Nadal.

Risking alot of money to get some dollars is never good. When you lose you will get a blow on your confidence, when you win you barely notice the differense. Federer is never a good bet, it may not always be a bad bet but not a good bet. Mathematicaly speaking the odds are about right (note that I never bet on mathematicaly right odds, but mathematicaly wrong odds where your winning chances are above luck), but psychologicaly its not good for the person who bets to risk so much money.

If who will win polls are a kind of popularity measure, then Nadal's has gone down lately quite far. He'll have to prang his car again for some people to have anything nice to say about him.

Nadal will take this one and silence all ye doubters.

I'm mean he lost to Blake due to a bottle malfunction. Davydenko won't trouble him in the same way.

Looking at the matchup realistically, and taking their present forms into consideration, Rafa, in my mind, should win in straight sets. Davy doesn't really possess anything to hurt Rafa, and is not an aggressive, attacking player who can take away the net and put Rafa on the defensive.

Look...he almost lost to Robredo, and lost to Blake...nuff said...Plus, he appears to be tired or sick or whatever...All I know is he better not make any more comments about his fitness or he won't play that Cup final in a few weeks...

This is a match Rafa needs to win...he needs a semi...and should he win, tennis wins: Rafa vs. Roger...

I watched that Blake/Davydenko match and MAN, what a great match!

I expected Davydenko to outlast Blake and Blake to collapse mentally but that didn't happen.

So, I don't know really where Nikolay is at mentally, which is obviously where you have to be to beat Nadal.

I would've picked Kolya before that Blake match, but I don't know. It was so close. 5-5 and Blake took one rip. Nadal doesn't have THAT kind of thing going for him.....

Soooooooo......

I'll go with Davydenko in another terrific encounter. 3 sets.

Both Blake and Davydenko impressed me with their fitness levels in that third set. Nadal will also probably be ready to roll if a decider set is needed.

See ATP, what happens when you space events out? You bring out the best tennis in players which means a better marketable product.

As I won 1400 dolalrs with Blake, I decided to risk a little. I bet 400 dollars on Nalby getting to the 2nd round at odds 6.6 and 800 dollars on Roddick winning against Nalby at 1.46 (giving the money back if I lost the other bet). The only way for me to lose money was Ljubicic defeating Federer which wouldnt happen. So I had nothing to lose. Ended up winning another 1440 dollars!

This week I am the happiest man in the world, I think I am done betting. Davy is 2.3 which is kind of a good bet, but not great. The great odds are over for now I think.

Nadal in two because he knows that in the semi-final waits for him Federer. Nadal has a great opportunity to reach the final - he is probably the only active player who believes that can beat FedEx everywhere (excluding grass).
I think Nadal tomorrow will play like a crazy man and will win pretty easily, something 6-3 6-2.

Another nice match for Nadal to practise his groundstrokes, serve returns and rhythm. Couldn't have worked out better for him. Will be interesting to see how the serve goes and if he sticks with the 1st serve down the T on the deuce side. Lost my bet on that in the Blake match! but won it for v Robredo.

All,

I wouldn't count Davy out. Our favorite Martian. I will say that it isn't a sure fire thing that Rafa will beat Davy. Davy - until yesterday - was on a match winning streak - and can match Nadla on redirecting the ball - and his foot speed is just as quick. So we shall see. I will give Davy the 60/40 edge.

Nadal has the choice whether he wants to lose today in 3 to Davy (who outplays him in every possible way despite the close score) or lose to Federer in 2 easy sets tomorrow.
