Well played Roddick :yeah: Managed to come back and easily win the 3rd set after losing a tight tie-break (not unexpected!), and faced no breakpoints in the entire match.

Looking good for him so far, though the RR stage is far from over yet.

Ljubicic looked exhausted at the end, hope he is ok what with the blood problems and whatnot.

But Andy coming to net so often was great to see and the BH was still pretty decent.

Andy kept his nerve after losing the TB ( he shouldn't have lost it in the first place). Well played Andy. Ivan's recent illness was certainly a factor.

It was totally unnecessary for Andy to go on a tirade against the umpire though. He was acting like a little kid.

In the past Roddick lost against Ljubo two tie-breaks 11:13 but he also won 12:10, 10:8 and 9:7 :)

Cool match. I've never seen Roddick playing so offensive. In the 1st set he only twice stayed on the baseline on his own serve :worship: 5th game of the second set was amazing. They both were playing like a Federer vs. Federer ;)

I'm not tangy, I'm not gonna be immature back to you, so just keep going :)Yes, what is up with Andy and tb's anyway? He could make things so much easier for himself if he sorted out that problem.
wish I knew. It's in his head obviously. In a lot of the TBs he's lost lately, he holds leads and SPs/MPs.... even since July when he started playing generally better, his TB record is absolutely PATHETIC.It was totally unnecessary for Andy to go on a tirade against the umpire though. He was acting like a little kid.Yes, it really was. And from that point on, his attitude in the 2nd set went further downhill. If he had just let it go and kept it together he might've pulled it out in 2

Look at Deb's comment. ;)It was a tough match but Andy was still holding more easily more often, he had chances near the end of the set and IMO Played a bit better than Ljubicic did even in the 2nd. I think Ljubicic was lucky to win the TB and in turn Andy was lucky that Ljubicic got tired. I can say it's a tough match but still say that Andy should have won in straights. in my opinion. :)

In any case, at least it was an entertaining high-quality match. :)

By the 2nd set tie-break, Roddick was winning 54% of all points, while Ljubicic was only winning 10% of points on first serve, and was close to being broken again by Roddick.

Yeah, but if you saw the beginning of the third, you'd see that on 1:1, on Roddick's serve, there was 5 deuces. But none of break points, and after that Ivan couldn't do anything. He should better take advantage that he had after winning 2nd. :)

See if this makes sense to you.
A slice-wide serve from Ljubicic was called out,he challenged,it was IN.So the umpire declared it an ace.
Andy was arguing that he could have returned it if it wasnt called out.
IMO acc. to the replays he really had no chance of getting to it so it was an un-necessary banter.

Seems like Tio's magic in the groupings was not observed only at MTF!

Roddick :bounce:

But the croatards crack me up. whenever their player is winning, they talk shit and beef him up and say he is the "REAL" #2, and when they lose, that scream and yell and call them choker, loser, and tell them to retire :haha:

woohoo! good way to start.

despite the disappointing 3rd set scoreline I can't wait to see the match, just for the fact that this is Roddick's first top-10 victory in a loooong time. Perhaps first of the year?

Seems that Andy benefits from Connors. This time Andy served much slower, but with far better placement. Ljubo isn't so bad at returning even 140 mph serves if they don't hit corners - but a sufficiently fast and well placed serve is an enigma for Ljubo, as demonstrated many times. Poor hand-eye coordination, I'd say.
Anyway, I didn't think it was a very high quality match. Ljubo made way too many errors which cost him several breaks, while Andy served great, exactly as one needs to serve against Ljubo. But with the overall game like that, I'd say they both go down to David (1st set version, not 2nd and 3rd ), let alone Roger.

No professional tennis player has bad hand-eye co-ordination.

Easy win for Roddick. The only time this match was ever in doubt was in the beginning of the 3rd set when Ivan somehow dodged several bullets to win the 2nd set. Roddcick was only "threatened" maybe 3 times on serve and even then he didn't have a BP against him. I've seen 100's of matches like these over the years where one player is always on the verge of losing serve and losing the match while the other player rolls and rarely does the player who is rolling through his games ever lose. Easy win.

Ah, thank you. :)

Good win for Andy. I didnt watch it, but seems that he showed once more that he went from S+FH Andy to S+FH+V (+BH) Andy.according to his brother, he serve-volleyed on almost every first serve. I dont think that's quite true but he came in an awful lot and hit some nice low volleys and half volleys. he made a few poor decisions that showed he is still not really instinctive up there (like when he should've covered the line and didn't, etc.) but it is a vast improvement for sure. and it was his BH that got him the break in the first set :yeah: :)

Some nice tactics from Roddick in this match, especially the serve & volley to reduce the effectiveness of Ljubicic's blocked returns. I thought his volley's were very good throughout, in fact he seemed to me to be attacking the net more than I've seen Federer do for years, probably since his Wimbledon 2003 win.

I find it difficult to gloat about Andy's win when Ivan laughs at Andy for sitting in the wrong chair. Why couldn't he have been the jerk that he is and yelled at him to get the hell out of his chair and then smacked him with his towel? Then I could hate him enough to go back to my regularly scheduled gloating. ;)

Roddick looks seriously :scared: when running away from Ljubicic, whose hanging his head in self-amused pity.I got the feeling he was pretty embarrassed to have done it :rolls: At least it was over the first changeover :haha:

But Roddick also inadvertently missed a cue, sitting done at one point in Ljubicic's courtside chair instead of his own during a changeover. He quickly realized his error and moved in time.

"Ivan should have told me to get out of his chair. But I'd been sitting in that chair every day during practice," explained the winner. "It was just a habit to migrate towards it.

"I didn't notice until Ivan sat down next to me and then I figured I should probably go to my own chair. I don't think I've ever done that before."

Frustrated at his inability to break Ljubicic in the second set after cruising through the first, Roddick lambasted an umpire over a line call that helped put him down 5-4 in the second set.

"Either you're lying or you're really bad at your job," Roddick told umpire Mohamed Lahyani.

Oy. he never plays well after his stupid little rants anyway.

Good job by Andy, Ljubicic definitely wasn't all there at end of the match. What was the health issue that he had just prior to the event?

Let's see what he can do against Mr Federer.

It was totally unnecessary for Andy to go on a tirade against the umpire though. He was acting like a little kid.
It really was unnecessary and it did change the match. He should have just let it go instead of letting it get to him that badly.

Jimmy Connors probably loved it though.

Good match, really enjoyed it. Andy played some solid tennis throughout and really should of won the match in straight. I thought Ivan didn't play that well at all and it was only the crucial points he won in the 2nd set that kept it in it. Who knows, had of he broken at 1-1 in the 3rd i might be saying something different right now.
