A few days ago, Vilas said in an interview that Nadal was going to wthdraw from Shangai. He definetely can get good information. I didn't believe him but maybe it's true.

I wouldnt trust anything Vilas says about Nadal. We all know how highly he regards Rafa. Just look at his behavior at RG with the whole "clay court record" thing

That doesn't have to do with nadal, it's because someone broke his record. I mean, he would have said the same, if it had been another player.
In a way the fact that vilas got it in only one season is more valuable, but of course Nadal's record will still grow.

Found a couple of quotes Vilas made about his record and Rafa-

"First of all, Nadal's performance is spanning over two years, which is not the same."

"Then, I have the feeling he added easy tournaments on his schedule just for that purpose."

"They never gave me any trophy at the time," said Vilas after he handed Nadal a trophy on the centre court of Roland Garros for the occasion.

The Argentine reminded that he still was detaining two other records Nadal "would never beat."

ME-OW...ouch! Maybe I'm a softie at heart, but I was hoping Vilas would have been a little more kind than that. ;)

I was sure this would happen....Why is he doing this? Id love to see him in the final but if he doesnt win a single match hes hurting his confidence for next year

Why is Vilas of all retired players saying anything about Nadal's status for Shanghai???
Are they secretly pals or something?

I really REALLY hope Rafa doesn't pull out.
It's very exciting to see all top 8 players competing in this thing.

We watched this ceremony on the screens at RG this year... ok the quotes look cold and mean - but the body language and warmth Vilas had for Rafa was amazing! - the press dont print that of course... alot of Vilas' quotes were done in jest - he was very proud of Rafa's achievement and the ceremony was very moving!

Vilas held Rafa so tight! - he looked like a very proud Uncle... you all know how warm the Spanish and South American players are towards eachother... it was a great ceremony.

Vilas won all those matches on clay but he didn't face Borg during that streak. Nadal established his record against all the major clay opponents except Nalbandian.

In his deep heart Vilas is being only mad that Nadal is the better clay player as him.

"Then, I have the feeling he added easy tournaments on his schedule just for that purpose."
 what a bitter ahole :retard: Vilas should better think of his lame times when players could drink all night before, be fat and not fit and still win tournaments. Today you are out if you only have a little problem or are 5% less fit as other players. Vilas played enough cheap tournament for his record in cheaper times of the 1970ties.

I've never heard about the second quote. Please give me a source.
About the last one, I think it was a joke. Generally, Argentines are sarcastic.

The title of the article says roughly: "Nadal's serve lets him down and shatters his dream". It's rather odd that the article would proclaim he has no chance in the title. Even if his serve is off that doesn't mean he can't still beat the others in his group.

This kind of talk before he even plays sounds like hedging bets to take the pressure off.

The bigger problem is if he starts forcing his serve to put more power into it, he could go back to the injury he had a week ago.

I mean, who cares if he loses Shanghai, he has a future ahead of him, he just ought to be careful with his overall health.

Also, his serve is definetly not his strongest weapon...
